This little country store is located in the middle of nowhere but within walking distance to O'Neill Park so it has a lot of snacks, drinks (sodas and beer), ice cream treats, and other items and sundries that the folks camping there might want. But locals like me might also find themselves stopping in to grab a snack while driving by. The exterior has an eclectic, retro-rural vibe with a few picnic tables to sit and enjoy a snack or drink if you so desire. The interior is equally funky and offers exactly what you'd expect at a neighborhood convenience store. I was running a bunch of errands and just wanted some snacks to munch on while driving so got a Cliff Bar and some Zinger mini cupcakes (don't judge me). I noticed their chip shelves were meager on that particular day but they had plenty of weird-brand sodas in the cooler. Prices were expectedly on the high side. The guy working here is nice but not chatty - very uncommunicative - which some reviewers don't like but I think adds to the store's character. read more

I usually don't ever leave reviews because I would hate to not support small businesses but if you need your propane filled do NOT come here. I have had it. Never felt more uncomfortable. This is myself and my boyfriend's third time with bad experience all with Julie. I have met two other employees and they were nice but Julie is ruining the store's reputation. The first experience my boyfriend said she was very rude to him because she had to fill up our propane tank. So the second time we needed it filled I said I would go because I don't know what would prompt that. I had the same experience as him. Julie was very upset and rude because she had to fill my tank but I killed him with kindness and ignored all the rude comments. This last today was today, 11/19. I parked in front of the store to see Julie outside with some locals. She immediately questioned if I was for the steakhouse with some attitude. I told her no I had two propane tanks to be filled. She said no they are closed for the night, and the store closes at 6. I asked her "really, I checked and online it says 7" she said no it's 6 so I then asked "what are your times on other days then". She then says fine I'll fine them bring your tanks over here. I brought one tank over and she immediately said "you better be tipping me good" I didn't say anything and she just stared at me clearly upset. I felt weird so i walked away to get my second tank where a local helped me and even he told her "Julie you have to be nice". I stood there talking to him while the tanks filled. She kept making comments that she has a family to go to and needs to leave. Keep in mind I parked at exactly 6 and had the tanks down at 6:01 (i checked). The local offered to put the second tank in my car and she said you come with me to pay. So I followed her inside. With attitude she asks if I have card, I told her yes apply pay. I proceed to pay and when the tip coming up on the screen I pressed skip. I just wanted to leave. She starts being angry with me. She said "Woooww are you serious and I stayed for you". I told her "I am sorry I live paycheck to paycheck and this is my gas bill." She told me "so do I and she couldn't believe this". As I was walking out she continued saying stuff under her breath so I said "you aren't very nice" and she told me "well that wasn't either". I just don't understand how this can be my third time with a bad experience with her and she almost wanted to force me to tip her. Did she forget how she treated me the prior month? I don't understand. And why should I have to feel obligated when I am just trying to buy gas so I can have hot water at my house. I'm sorry to any other worker there, but the treatment from Julie was so uncalled for. read more

Here's a "Taco Tuesday" hidden gem in South OC that few people seem to know about. I recently discovered the Trabuco General Store (near O'Neill Park) that has delicious tacos every Tuesday for just $2 each. The store itself feels like you're stepping back in time with their old school vibes and decor. They sell a variety of grocery items, drinks, locally made items (jams, syrups, wine, etc.) and various knick knacks inside. And while that's all fine and good, I really came for their Taco Tuesday! Every Tuesday, they have a vendor who comes out and sets up the grill and cooks the tacos outside of their store. Basically it's a man and wife and their 2 children. The tacos are available every Tues. from 5-8 pm, although the day that I went, the taco vendor had arrived late and they weren't set up until 20-30 minutes later. You may want to call the store ahead of time to make sure they will be there on the day you plan to go. I ordered the carnitas, al pastor, pollo and carne asada tacos. Those were the 4 different types of meats that were being offered that day. Basically you stand in line (cafeteria style), tell them what kind of tacos you want (and how many), then let them know if you'll be eating outside on the adjacent benches or taking the tacos to go. I took mine to go and they wrapped them up in foil for me. They have cilantro, limes and salsa as well, although they ran out of plastic to-go containers when I was there. I heard through the grapevine that they often sell out around 7pm - 7:30pm, so it's best to arrive before that time. Also, I don't know if they take credit cards, so it's best to bring cash. If you want sodas or a drink, you can pop into the Trabuco General Store for that. Now on to the tacos! The meats are incredibly tender and flavorful. The tortillas, which I believe are handmade, are heated up on the grill as you wait and you get 2 tortillas per taco. For $2 per taco, it's quite a deal! I ordered 6 tacos to go (4 for my husband and 2 for me) and that was enough for both of us. If you live in the area (Trabuco Canyon, RSM, Coto de Caza, Mission Viejo, etc.) I highly recommend checking them out on Taco Tuesday. If you don't live nearby, I still think it's worth the trip if you love good tacos at a great price! read more

The General Store was opened about 74 years ago. They have a yearly chili cook-off and have summer concerts on Friday nights, as well as a community fund raiser yearly. The cashier was nice and friendly. I bought two bags of Royal Snacks; trail mix and nuts with a Coke zero. Also; banana nut muffin, apple Danish, and marble cake. This is an adorable little store, that really feels like it is a page out of an olden days book. I love it. We stopped in here while driving by, and got some snacks and sodas... and my friends 6 year old daughter snuck a little dinosaur toy onto the counter hoping no one would notice :) Everything was fresh and I would definitely stop by here again. It was a little hard to get the gal working to talk to us... she was a bit impersonal which didnt quite fit the feel of the store, but maybe it was just an off day. read more

I agree with Rosey. But I am not a camper - I do motorcycle rides in the area - like hundreds of others. I always love stopping in here. I just love the way it feels like I am out in the middle of nowhere, and Gomer Pyle just might saunter up and try to pump some gas, or shoot the bull. It has charm. This is such a beautiful area to ride, and sometimes you just need to take a leg stretch, a drink stop, or grab a snack - and this is your spot. My favorite thing is the water tower with Downtown Trabuco on it. This is the cutest downtown EVER. I bet the kids that live up the street practically live here. The closest to a General Store, the Trabuco store is a micro convenience business cram to the ceiling. Caveat that everything is small here. One motorcycle group and you have to park away and trek back to it. Now, it is quite well stoked for a store that serves the small Trabuco small community, the O'Neill Park, and the roving group of motorcycle groups from Cook's Corner. BBQ at the park?, you are set. From ice cream to milk, to eggs and fresh tamales, picnic supplies to Trabuco regalia. Fresh water and chew treats for your doggie right next to the entrance. Tamales are my guilty pleasure, and they are prepared fresh everyday; there is a small dining area to eat your purchases, but remember, small, and unless you are alone or a midget, beware large groups from the town with their horses, tourists and choppers. * The Good: Well stocked, friendly staff, tamales. We LOVE our General Store (and the friendly service there)!! The new owners have made some really welcome changes, offering some more quality choices of snacks, drinks and goodies! The store inside and out is always clean and even gets (picture worthy) decorations out on the front wrap-around porch, for each big season. We appreciate it being handy to pick up basics we might have forgotten at the grocery, as well as drawing visitors for a little nostalgic stop when traveling through our beautiful canyon! Along with tons of snacks & drinks...including some old fashion sodas...they have lighter fluid and other necessities when camping. Some weekends they have donuts in the morning, so if you are camping & in need of breakfast...well, there you go. There is a nice selection of beef jerky, crackers & other individually wrapped snacks & ice cream bars...there is a yummy vanilla brownie ice cream cone, Jolly Rancher Popcicles & a few other common brands. Most things are a bit pricey, but they do accept credit cards (except AmerEx) & there is no minimum. If your in need of propane to refill your BBQ tank look elsewhere. I have gone here for several years to refill my tanks and the price was fair and the service honest. Recently though i was confused as to how 4.6 gallons of propane @ the posted price of $3.19/Gallon could equal $18.74!! I did some quick math and found that the person filling my tank had charged me $4.07 per gallon. I brought this to his attention and he made some excuse about if its less than five gallons we still charge for five then tax also @ 8%. Even using his math the total should have been $17.22! Well, needless to say i will NEVER be buying ANYTHING from this ripoff artist from this day forward and will also inform all my contacts. Its a shame how when someone tries to scam you for a few bucks it ends up costing them future business. read more
