. So Worth Tweeting About…read more A Bird and Nature-Lovers Gift Shop What a fabulous little shop! A good number of quality items for anyone into our adorable, colorful fine-feathered friends. From feeders (affordable to very well-made $$$) to feed ($$ to $$$). They've obviously chosen the best---and some of the most unique---items for this store. For yourself, or for anyone on your gift list who enjoys this pastime, this is definitely the place to visit. I defy you to leave without purchasing something from what I'd describe as a "bird and nature-lovers" gift shop. In addition to the basics, numerous garden items such as stoneware, birdbaths, bird houses, thermometers and chimes, plus books, novelties, jewelry, cards, note paper, binoculars, candies, and decorative indoor/outdoor bird and nature-related pieces. So many different things---even a few for cats and dogs, too, but 99% birds. Purchased a clever little feeder that's designed to be filled with a prepackaged creamy mix of rendered beef suet and peanuts. (Passed on the one containing freeze-dried mealworms and fruit, but will get that one next time.) Per several customer reviews on their site these "Bark Butters" are favorite bird attracters. Although located on a nondescript stretch of strip mall across from Ollies---just north of Great Northern mall---the interior and what they offer, is what I'd expect to find inside a large, enclosed mall. Understandably---because of their mostly easily-affordable inventory---I'd be surprised to ever find them inside one. Way too expensive for what they offer. This shop truly is one of those proverbial "little gems". Two very friendly, knowledgeable employees---who were eager to answer questions and engage in nature-related conversation, but while always keeping a comfortable-easy-to-just-browse distance---made the experience even more enjoyable. Sign up for their fliers. They sometimes have coupons for as much as 15% off purchases. Didn't have mine with me, but would have been about 3.50 savings. And in this economy, that's not birdfeed, either---that's a gallon of gas on a good gas price day.

The employees are knowledgable and very friendly, without being pushy. That is the type of service you expect everywhere but typically only get in smaller places. I will be back for my mother's birthday gift and their special seed that doesn't sprout plants in my yard (naturally neat).

Our family recently had an unfortunate experience with K-9 Kingdom. I am writing a negative review…read moreto share our experience and hopefully prevent others' pets from negligence. We did research before choosing K-9 Kingdom a few years ago and had a few personal recommendations. It seemed like a reputable and safe place to leave our goldendoodle while we were away. We went away for an extended weekend over the 4th of July. The last day of our trip out of state, we received a voicemail from K-9 Kingdom informing us that our goldendoodle had been bit by another dog. We were told that our dog was administered "first aid" and then returned back to group play after a brief separation. We had to request documentation/photo evidence of the bites (which ended up being several punctures and lacerations), we asked them that they take him to the vet next door to get examined by a professional, and we had to demand that they isolate our dog from the other animals for the remainder of his stay. *What should have been a standard protocol for a bite incident, wasn't a consideration for K-9 Kingdom. After cutting the vacation short to urgently return home same day, my husband arrived at the kennel as was shocked to see the condition our dog was in. He is a large goldendoodle with a thick coat, which made it almost impossible to see the extent of his injuries before he went to the vet to get examined/shaved. He had multiple injuries and was clearly scared. There was no apology from the staff, over the phone or in-person at pick up. They failed to properly supervise the dogs and had allowed them to interact without proper precautions or vetting other dogs behavior prior to group play. Most worrisome, they failed to provide proper medical care (until we demanded it), as our dog clearly needed professional medical attention and antibiotics due to the bite(s). While I appreciate them paying for the vet bill (which the owner initially stated was "unnecessary"), it does not change the fact that my dog suffered physically and emotionally because of their negligence on handling the situation. Accidents happen, but how they handled the entire situation and care afterwards was despicable. The kennel's lack of compassion and care for our goldendoodle was inexcusable. Had we not advocated for him (while out of state) to be seen by a professional, further infections could have developed. Had we not requested he be removed from group play, another bite could have occurred. I strongly advice pet owners to think twice before entrusting their beloved furbabies to K-9 Kingdom. We are still having follow up appointments with our current vet to monitor his wounds, continue additional antibiotics, and administer laser treatments to encourage healing, blood flow, and new skin growth. Overall, our experience was extremely disappointing and traumatic for us and our dog. I hope that by sharing our story, others may find another kennel where their dog is prioritized and treated as a family member instead of as income for K-9 Kingdom.

The staff members were nice and patient when you could get a chance to talk with them. The challenge was a lot of people visiting and staff being taken up made that a challenge. But this is regarding puppies, so hard to blame them for a big rush of dog lovers. I feel it is important to provide some perspective on the pricing. While I generally do not have an issue with paying a premium for top quality service and products(sorry, not a great way to label a potential family pet with traditional wording), the markup here is significant. I was quoted over $5,000 for a puppy that can be found through trusted, local certified breeders for $1,200 or less. That's a terrible mark up for a family pet just because they come with a package of food, toys, and warranty. While the convenience of a mall location and the included starter kit is a nice touch, a price difference of several thousand dollars is difficult to overlook. I would recommend that anyone looking for a specific breed also research local certified breeders in the area to ensure they are making a financially sound decision. As a dog lover that would have made the same day purchase for a fair price, I'm heavily disappointed that several of these puppies may not go home with a loving family due to such a significant markup. Beautiful puppies, well maintained store, and helpful staff, but the cost makes a visit incredibly heartbreaking.
