I was SO excited to finally try Tracy Anderson while visiting NYC after following them on social media for years. I assumed it was impossible to get into a class, but I booked an 11am on a Friday with no problem. Granted most of the world was likely at work at this time! My friend and I walked from our hotel and it took a little longer than we expected to get there. We had hoped to arrive early to get set up, but walked in just about as class was to get started. There were bands hanging from the ceiling and they even give you a pole to get them down. The instructor got right to work and it was clear that we were to follow her. She didn't give much (or any) instruction throughout the class, but I did my best to follow her...and it was pretty tough. While there are definitely some experts in the class I just didn't have the flexibility or coordination for this workout. And they heat the room, which is my personal worst nightmare. I typically stay away from any heated class and would have done the same here if I had known. The music was good and the bouncy floor was super cool (i want one in my basement), but that was about all I liked. I'm glad I finally got to try Tracy Anderson because it's been on my bucket list for awhile, but think I'm one and done. read more

Have you tried TA Tracy Anderson Method? I bought her CD and became ADDICTED. She has a G floor, and now when I fly back in town and stay at the POD or Arlo I can walk to her studio, the largest Flagship, 6,000 SF former Film Theatre converted dance cardio gift to every uptown girl NYC has ever seen. The entire build out is customized and there is a cafe next door where TA and Gwen developed a curated menu of probiotic plates. I have an online account that I emailed them to cancel. I received a response stating that they couldn't find it under my email. So I had to go to their horrible website to take pictures of my account and the program I was under. Then when I went to email the person and their inbox was full. The sad thing is the same day this happened they had no problem changing my bank account. Sad with how expensive her programs are you think she would have a better webpage or an App to make it easier for her customers. read more

The BEST workout in NYC. Actually in the world! Yes, it's pricey. But worth ever penny. But I stopped going to the trainer and only do this 2-3 times per week. I have a whole new body and it's only been 6 months. Run. Don't walk (literally...). Only wish they would bring back the detail band class, it was my favorite. :( read more

This is a great location near the subway station. The space is large with multiple studios and locker rooms. I have been here once for the Stamina class and it was my first time trying the workout. That was a dance cardio class with some weights and bands as well. The floor in the studio was heated and it felt humid. The floor also seems bouncy. The class involved a lot of jumping. I thought it was a great workout! The things that I felt that could be improved were the friendliness of the employees. Everyone was perfectly polite to me but this was my first time at the studio. I would have expected someone at the front desk to offer to show me where things were and what studio I would be in. I also introduced myself to the instructor of my class (again as it was my first time and wanted to make sure they were aware of that) she seemed surprised and didn't say anything helpful or encouraging. The instructor also just started the class and ended - it was just unclear that it would be starting or ending. These points seemed abrupt to me. The class itself again was great and the instructor taught a great class. I felt like I really had a workout. My other suggestion is that the studio gets shelving for the showers to put the shampoo, conditioner, and body wash in instead of keeping on the floor. It is just annoying to bend down to reach these items when in the shower. The bathroom had hairbrushes, deodorant, hair dryers, and body lotion available as well. read more

I totally think this biz is the best! It definitely is the hardest, most intense workout in the city. It is also more about form and correct alignment than say Barry's where the goal at BArrys is just to get you to sweat and experience muscle failure, which doesn't necessarily make you stronger. So you will see results quick and fast at TA. It helps that you already come to the studio in relatively good shape if you are taking group classes. The facilities are clean, bright, and huge!! Amenities galore if that is important to you. Teaching is done by example. The teacher doesn't really talk much during the session, but if you bring your A game to class and are mentally attentive, you will pick up on key, non- verbal cues that help you to understand how to properly execute an exercise. It is pricey, but your $$$ gets you value, not hype. Keep in mind how physically taxing it is for the trainer leading the class. Plus to keep things fresh they are spending tons of time each week learning new combinations and class programming outside of the hour you are there. They don't just throw together a new playlist and call it a day. Some people have said the vibe here is unfriendly. I would say it can be at times a serious vibe, but it is never elitist. A struggling waiter and an Upper East Side millionaire will always be treated the same. The classes here are really worth every penny. read more

I was so excited to be able to go to the 59th studio, because I take Tracy's classes at home through her streaming service. It was super easy to find with the marquee jutting out above the studio. It used to be a movie theater hence the old marquee is still used. The front of the studio has a retail shop which sells clothes, TAM dvds, CLEAR bars, and TAM shake powder. Alas, the cafe was not open when I visited, but is up and running now. This studio does have a locker room with showers. The lockers are a little tricky since I'm used to using digital or coin lockers. These have 4 sets of dials to lock it and were easy after I figured out how to use it. I had booked my MultiTAsk bands class 30 minutes before I arrived so I had to call since the online system would not let me that close to the class. Since, this was a last minute class I hadn't even grabbed a water bottle and I was glad they had large paper cups to fill with water. Water is a necessity during Tracy Anderson Method. All the equipment is provided for the class. Also, tons of towels are available. The class was so amazing with the bouncy floors and the perfect heat and humidity. Band class is so intense and my arms were sore for a few days after. Looking forward to another trip to the 59th studio. read more

Best workout ever! The studio is beautiful, the people who work there are nice and helpful, I highly recommend TA!!

I've been going to Tracy's classes for a while now since she started offering non member sessions and I'm happy she opened up a studio that's isn't so far downtown. Facilities are beautiful but seem to be a bit bare bones, It always look a tad empty so perhaps ppl aren't trekking up there? As for the classes themselves, to be honest they aren't much different than other dance cardio classes in the city like AKT or Body by Simone (who I think used to work with her?) What's different is the vibe and Tracy's students are definitely more hardcore, not super friendly as it's clear they are there to work their asses off and basically most of them already have amazing bodies but perhaps because they are so dedicated to her classes? I think if you're there to just focus, sweat and dedicate an hour to your body, you can't lose by going to Tracy! read more

I went in yesterday evening around 6 PM to find out more about the studio as I'm moving into the area and looking for a workout option convenient to my new place. I walked in and said to the woman behind the desk 'I don't know anything about this place. Can you tell me what it's about?' She literally said "It's just a gym." Confused by both her lack of knowledge about her place of employment or her interest in it, I continued...'So, I currently am a member at Equinox, how is this different?' to which she says (I kid you not) "I don't know Equinox but yeah, this is just a gym". Wow...seriously? She handed me not one pamphlet, offered no information on hours or schedules or prices. NOTHING. I was clearly bothering her with my interest in the place. She was not busy at the time, there was no queue for her attention, no excuse I could think of for such poor customer service. I would so fire her if she were my employee. I can't imagine spending my money at this place. I'll stick with Equinox where they jump to tell you why you should part with $200 a month to go there. I'd rather deal with people who actually want my business. read more
