This is a great grocery store, especially for a single person or couple; they have small portion choice meats and other specialty items that you won't find in a larger grocery store. They also have a great selection of beer and wine, desserts, and frozen foods, and their prices are fair. read more

The only place I get my groceries in Bako. You get fresh delicious food and the bill always comes out much cheaper than I expect! You can be your health-conscious self here without losing the quality, taste, and price too. Some of my staples are: wheat pizza dough (in the produce section near the cheeses); frozen chicken tenderloins (no preservatives so you don't get the high sodium that other frozen fooods have), nonfat TJ brand yogurts w/ fruit on the bottom; variety of produce (sometimes they have the $4 whole watermelon sale and a $2 pack of sliced organic apples!); soy milk; and Clif bars. And I think almost every frozen food there I've tried has been really good too, particularly the orange chicken. Hours are now open til 9 pm and bring your own cloth bags to enter a drawing every week. read more

We rarely came to Trader Joe's before, but we HAVE to shop here every week now because my preschooler loves the miniature shopping cart and the stickers she got from the friendly cashiers. We used to visit the pretend city in Irvine because my daughter loves to play in their "Trader Joe's". It's very exciting to see we have a real one here for the littles without the 2.5hr driving and actually get some shopping done at the same time. I also found that the berries here last longer than the ones I got from Sprouts and have less bad/moldy berries. We love their large selection of organic produce and snacks: salty squares, tortilla chips, dried fruits...just to name a few. We look forward to discover more favorites! read more

This Trader Joe's location is the best, as if Trader Joe's products weren't good enough. The service is fantastic! The staff is always there to help, and is very knowledgeable about the store's products. I can't say that about a lot of grocery stores. As for the food, it's so unique, quality, and delicious. They have a broad selection of things like meat, cheese (my favorite), and bread. Very good selection of organic, gluten free, and healthy foods. The things I get as often as I can from TJs are the lite cheeses (very good choices like harvarti, cheddar, and swiss in slices and blocks), the flour tortillas (muy buena!), frozen orange chicken, fruit, hashbrown patties (if you can't find these, ask for assistance, as these are so good that you don't want to pass 'em up), cereals, apple smoked bacon (no nitrates added), and eggs (great prices). For a special treat, get the COOKIE BUTTER. It taunts me every time I go past it, with it's perfect taste and cookie crumbs mixed in. At Christmas, don't tell anyone because they run out so fast, buy a couple boxes of the festive peppermint oreo-like cookies. Bottom line, Trader Joes is my favorite store in Bako. In fact, I think I'll drive over there now and pick me up some cookie butter. read more

My gosh, such mixed feelings about this location. On one hand, they are clean and organized. All of your TJ's favorites are easy to find. On the other hand, I'm pretty sure they give a personality test at hire to ensure one's meanness is up to staff par. Seriously, the unfriendliest group of effers I have ever stumbled across! Trader Joes is one of a handful of organic health food grocery stores in Bakersfield. Hands TJ's is my favorite. It is one of the smaller Trader Joes that I've been too but it makes it that much easier to get in and grab what you need and get out. Staff are always super friendly. I'm a huge fan of their coffee. For the whole bean lovers, hey have a grinder so you can freshly ground those beans before you leave. A few of my favorite items has to be anything Cookie Butter related. If you haven't tried this stuff you are definitely missing out. I would recommend checking out the Cookie Butter ice cream or cheesecake first. Soooo good. I also enjoy their cereals. Vanilla crunch and chocolate almond always disappear from my pantry in a day or two. Good selection of beer and wine. I remember the good ole days when 2 Buck Chuck would be the drink of the night. It's still 2 Buck Chuck sort of,$2.49 for the Charles Shaw wine that will definitely put some hair on your chest. Meat is a bit pricey but comes packaged in small quantities. Overall I definitely enjoy our local Trader Joes. Fresh flower selection is pretty good also for the fellas needing a quick bouquet for that special someone. read more

Another great Trader Joe's! We've been here several times after 8 p.m. on Sundays and they've had all the staples for our grocery shopping needs. (Other locations I've been in tend to look looted by the end of the weekend.) I didn't notice the lack of an express lane at this location, but that would be a serious pain if this were my regular TJ's because I tend to do my shopping every 2-3 days, not weekly. read more

Trader Joe's, I must say is like our one-stop shop for anything organic or vegan since we really do not have a Wholefoods within a 100-mile radius. Some of the products at TJ are actually way cheaper than Wholefoods. Although I am not entirely living organically, I love coming in here to buy a few things here and there like their famous 2 buck chucks, green tea mochi ice cream, their boxed french macarons (my fave, I'm a frustrated baker and they come in vanilla and chocolate ganache, yum!) & the veggie chips. Other than that I help myself with their organic skincare products and their Australian Tea Tree Oil. Sometimes I like shopping for groceries here too because it's not as relatively big as Von's or Albertsons and it is easy to find everything. Their employees are very friendly, courteous and accommodating. It definitely is your friendly neighborhood market. read more

I love Trader Joe's but every time I go to this location, the parking situation is always crazy and because there is only one in town it is PACKED. The building is really small and I honestly do not understand why they have not expanded to other locations. The food is good but I have had some problems with their produce. I know fruit can be temperamental but it seems that it's either going bad too quickly or takes a long time to ripen and that is why I do not buy my produce from there anymore. Also, I have a couple of friends that have been working there for a long time and I have also been shopping there for a few years. One time, I accidentally left my most recent ID and they would not sell me beer--even though I had my old one in my wallet! I was upset about this and since I am picky about my beer I haven't gone back since that time. Other than that, my trips were enjoyable and if I ever am in the neighborhood and I need something, I will stop by. read more

I don't shop here for organic food, I come here for the high quality and great prices. When it comes to their produce it can be expensive but their baking ingredients, popcorn, oils, eggs, and supplements are amazing low in price! It is probably the best prices in town you just need to know what you are buying. I also love their seasonal food and everyday fun samples and friendly staff. Defiantly come here in October for all the pumpkin treats. This isn't a place to go grocery shopping, it is a place to get a few special things you need that you can't find anywhere else. read more

I absolutely love this store. I used to live in Oregon for about eight years and everybody was so nice and happy, and when I moved back to Bakersfield I was a little bit sad that it's the exact opposite. But when I go into Trader Joe's it's like I'm thrown right back to Oregon, everybody is so nice and friendly. I've had the pleasure to be helped out by David on numerous occasions he is amazingly quick and still so very nice and helpful, he is absolutely amazing. 5 stars for being the only TJ's in town! Yes, it is a bit small and the parking is not fab..but can you imagine if we didn't have one? I would have to stop by one after shopping out of town at Nordstrom. That would not be good. Just ran in to grab a healthy snack. I love this place. Can always find something I may not need, but want... I'll find chips, candy, something that I'm going to end up buying just to try. Customer service is always on point, friendly and always helpful. They always seem happy to be there and happy to help. The employees always set the shopping mood for me. Doesn't mater how busy it gets, I always see a smile. Great place to shop for healthier food as a life style. Just finished my shopping at the Trader Joe's on Coffee and Stockdale. The staff are most pleasant and always know where something is that I can't find. James was at the register tonight, and he asked an associate employee to retrieve an item that I had not located. James has waited on me before, and he, like the others employed there, are extra friendly and attentive. I love TJ's Goat Gouda. If you haven't tasted it yet, you are in for a treat. You can't find oyster crackers anywhere like those at Trader Joe's. We serve them to our guests who come to our vineyard for wine tasting. I could go on...for those who are gluten free, this is a good place to shop. Thank you, Trader Joe's, for being here! Oh, we're still waiting, hoping, that the "Some Enchanted Crackers" will return. I went into the local TJ looking for fresh artichokes. Two different produce clerks told me that it was too early, that artichokes were not in season. The next day, I was down at the Hollywood Farmers' Market and there were several stalls selling artichokes! So, I stopped at three different TJs in the Hollywood area that afternoon. They all were selling artichokes. I have had similar experiences looking for lychees at TJ. Bakersfield store says that it is all of season, but I can find the fruit in Hollywood. At least in Bakersfield, I have my shopping to Sprouts. read more

However, after comparing prices with Trader Joes, I've made my conversion for good. Plus, I'm more health-concious while shopping at Joes than I do at Vons. I. Love. Trader. Joe's. I would say we buy about 99% of our groceries here. The employees have always been helpful & courteous. It's rare that they have something I need out of stock, but they're usually pretty accurate about when it will be back in stock and help with finding a substitute I'd necessary. If you want to try something before buying it, don't be shy because they will gladly open it for you to test (and then of course give it to the sample cart to do samples). What I especially appreciate about this particular Trader Joe's is that they recently (spring of 2015) expanded their refrigeration cabinet so they could include chilled beverages and a wider variety of meats & cheeses. This is great for when you're on your way to a dinner party in the SW. They know what their customers want! Plus the parking isn't as horrendous at this location as it is at other Trader Joe's. My favorite part of Trader Joe's in general is that all of their products marked as Trader Joe's is cruelty free, GMO free, & preservative free. This does mean that it goes bad faster, but I don't feel like absolute crap eating. My second favorite part is that they make me feel like I'm an excellent cook (although I'm truly just an okay cook) because all of their food tastes amazing and the employees at the sample carts give you good recipe ideas. read more

Come here for most of my fruit needs. I also really enjoy the Trader Joe's branded food. Unlikely most generic grocery store stuff, the store brand stuff usually tastes as good if not better than the branded stuff. On top of this, they have their own unique combinations of a variety of items: chips, sauces, take-home dinners, etc. Their frozen meals also quite tasty. The staff is always really friendly and they are pretty quick to get you through the line. When they open a new register, they'll walk over and invite you over. They also have bins for old paper and plastics bags, so I'll usually bring my stock of bags to have them recycled (since Bakersfield lacks a city-wide recycling program). read more

I go here whenever I get on this side of town or if I'm in need of something specific. I love getting different snacks here for gift baskets when I make them. The Staff is always very friendly and helpful with suggestions or finding something. I love the products they have here and even though some of it is pricey you get what you pay for. Just like all the other TJ's but smaller.....there are definitely a difference in locations and the Bakersfield store is essentially a step up from a Fresh & Easy. (you would have had 4stars otherwise) The biggest problem is that they are not a able to meet all my shopping needs and then I still end up at Lassens.
