Besides the madhouse that is the parking lot, this is a great store. All TJ devotees are already familiar with the great service and delicious food selections. Before moving from the Highland Creek area to South Charlotte, all of my TJ shopping was done at the Mallard Creek store. I only went early in the morning to avoid the crowds and the lines. Last Friday afternoon, I decided to swing by this store for the first time. After circling the parking lot a few times, I almost gave up. I'm not a lazy individual- only determined to get one of the close spots right by the door of any establishment. Even the opposite side of the lot by the CVS and other stores was completely filled. On my way out of the lot, I saw a sign for more parking in the back. Finally! Inside, the place was slammed. I cursed myself for procrastinating on getting groceries earlier in the week. There are many more items for sale here than I've ever seen at the other Trader Joe's in the north part of the city. After grabbing my bacon cheddar cheese block, my striped lobster ravioli, French vanilla ice cream, some Alkaline water and a few other essentials while trying to stay out of the way of other shoppers, I made it to the counter. I asked the cashier if this is a typical Friday. He told me it's a typical everyday! Great store- but I refuse to return unless it's at 8am, as the doors open. We've always had a good experience with TJ's but today was beyond exceptional. All of the staff members were super friendly and even made some recommendations but one stuck out. CJ was at our check lane with another young lady when we mentioned that one of the items we were looking for was out of stock. He quickly offered to get it from the back even after we said it was okay. He absolutely made our day and i'm glad to say my partner and I walked out with huge smiles on our faces. Love this store. Everything I have gotten from here has been great. Customer service is also really good. Parking can be a pain but I have learned to park in the back area for easy access. Sometimes the lines can be really long but I never had to wait that long. One time I was there, I had a trader joes employee waiting to check out in front of me. There was an elderly lady in front of him checking out. He noticed that she needed some help. He told me to go ahead of him so he can help her put her groceries to her car. I couldn't believe how wonderful that was. He wasn't even on the clock. He started bagging her stuff and putting it in the cart and walked her right out while I was checking out. Perfect place to pick up fun groceries and organics and fairly priced wines. Always impressed by all the happy people who work here. They must pump sunshine into each employee every single day. I frequent this Trader's Joes since relocating to Charlotte. With it being the closest to the Ballantyne area, I typically go after work. It is snuck away in a health conscious shopping center with an olive oil store, Jamba Juice, wrap shop, etc.. Parking isn't typically an issue but it does get busy on weekends. The shelves here stay stocked and staff is my favorite of all the Trader's I've visited. The layout is also spaced out enough for easy maneuverability regardless of kids, carts, etc. Now here's the reaaal kicker, the wine selection here is amazing for the size store. Incredibly priced wines (starting at 2.99) but also some more appropriate priced wines for gifts, tastings, and gatherings. They also have a pretty robust craft beer sections with local favorites all priced pretty well whether you are picking up a 4 pack or just want a pint. The lines here are extremely well managed. I have yet to wait as there seems to be more than enough cashiers available and sometimes even additional bagging help for larger orders. if necessary. All in all, two thumbs up here read more

Cramped and crowded are the overwhelming themes here. It starts when you pull into the parking lot. For some reason this lot is abnormally cramped. The parking spots are narrow and there is a constant flow of traffic in n out, with a steady flow of pedestrians. So everyone is operating on "slow and cautious" Hot tip: there is a parking lot in the BACK of the building. All TJ's seem to have this overcrowding issue so its not a deal-breaker, just arrive in a zen state and don't forget to breath. The cramped and crowded theme continues on in the interior. However, it's your run of the mill TJ's cramped so I won't go in to detail. I will say that on the weekends: fuggedaboutit! Moral of the story, I journey 30 minutes from home, brave the occasional freeway traffic jam, hot-mess parking situation and bumper-to-bumper shopping carts all because Trader Joe's is worth it. The register situation is streamlined, employees are shining stars and there are at least 5 items TJ's sells that I cannot live without. So clearly, I'll be back. read more

Don't normally go to this Trader Joe's but I love all their products. This location seems to be really popular - the parking lot can be a nightmare sometimes. There was an 5K event sponsored by the Great Harvest Bread Co. (a close neighbor to this Trader Joe's) and it was great. Trader Joe's even donated the bananas and oranges given away at the finish line. This location doesn't seem like it's as big as the University area TJs but it does the trick. Just wish the parking lot was bigger and it doesn't exactly help that the other locations in the shopping center are pretty popular (Yoforia, starbucks, CVS) so the parking is definitely a premium. read more

From the five types of goat cheese to the cookie butter, this store has my devotion. The variety of exciting TJ products is what lures the shoppers to this fantastic market! The goat cheese is outstanding--from brie, gouda, cheddar and chevre varieties, I get a excited standing in the cheese section. Okay, so maybe it's just me, but for a former cheese lover who can now only eat goat cheese, this store has wonderful food. I love the prepared meals, chicken picata. Also, they have excellent nut mixes and specialty items for the holidays like Jo-Jo cookies (think oreos but way better). I also think the prices are more fair and less than other markets. However, the crazy parking lot situation is a determining factor for me. Some days I cannot deal with it so I try to choose off times or early mornings. read more

Very upset after visiting this location, I prefer shopping with Trader Joe's and with this being one of the only stores nearby me, I go here often. After my experience in the store today, I will NOT be returning and with seeing Trader Joe's selection for management it makes me not want to use any of their stores at all. The manager Mark was rude and disrespectful for no reason when I was asking for assistance. It is more understandable for a regular staff to be rude but in my opinion, being an owner of a business, I think there was a poor selection with him and I myself would like to know if I had someone like him representing my organization. If you buy groceries and live in the South Charlotte area, this store should need no introduction... they do not run sales, or specials... Occasionally, they may feature items, but prices will remain consistent... and extremely affordable! They have a reputation for allowing no artificial preservatives or colors in any of the foods they carry... The produce is usually very fresh, they have a wide variety of cheeses and deli meats (which they are famous for), their wines range from ridiculously inexpensive on upwards to some more elite options, and the folks that work here are always kind, helpful, and upbeat! I make a trip here at least once a week... sometimes twice... I am so grateful for this brand and their reputation for caring for the customer. As long as their around, I'll shop there! read more

Small little store with a big attitude, that's an attitude of fun, excitement and overall willingness to give excellent customer service. I find the atmosphere charming as if I'm at a playground but when it comes to the the selection items it's all grown up and healthy. The prices are nice especially for the quality you get and many of their items are free of artificial colors, GMO's and preservatives; now that's a lot to get excited about. Not too many locations in the Charlotte area but if you get the chance, definitely stop by and stock up on what you need. If you're a wine drinker then you'll probably love their Two Buck Chuck, just ask about it and they'll tell you. I hear it's great especially for the price. read more

Favorite place to drop some bones on delicious and healthy food. Pros: Their selection of dried fruit and nuts is amazing. The only place to find honest to goodness dried fruit with no added sugar or color. Make sure to check the package to ensure you're getting the good stuff...They have a few items that have added sugar (e.g. dried cranberries). Oh my holy baby CHEESES! Their cheese selection is infinitely cheaper than Harris Teeter. Never buy cheese from the Teeter again! You'll pay way less for the same, if not better quality options at Trader Joe's. Every time. The bathrooms are clean and in the back of the store. When accompanied by children who have the "insta-pee" button, it's a safe haven. Employees are wonderful. Sometimes a little over-interactive, if you know what I mean. But it's in their job description to make small talk, and boy do they ever make small talk. They are also generally kind and helpful if you need them. The frozen section is in great shape. Any meal you could imagine, they have it...and the Frequent Flyer publication is chock-full of exciting ideas that require only one or two ingredients. Definitely pick up a package of the potstickers or orange chicken next time you're in there. Cons: Produce can be a bit iffy. Pineapples are generally $2 less than other grocery stores, and you can round up a good one after inspection. Sometimes I wonder if stuff hasn't been sitting there a bit long. Maybe this store doesn't do the volume of produce that would allow for such frequent movement. No idea. Some of the packaged produce is in better shape. I'm a big fan of their spinach, carrots, pea shoots, etc. Can't go wrong there. Parking is a NIGHTMARE. Anyone will tell you this. I recommend "the parking in the back" to anyone who will listen. It's less hellacious and more likely to put you in good spirits for a Trader Joe's visit. Sometimes I can park near Starbucks or Yoforia and walk over, since there's usually a spot available, but it is a bit of a walk for those of you non-olympic speedwalkers out there. All in all, I'd rather shop at TJ's than other "health-food stores" out there. Trader Joe's makes it way easier to find happy vegetarian options that aren't laden with offensive additives, sugar or soy. read more

I sat in the car while my wife shopped so here's my review of the parking lot. IT'S TIGHT IN THERE. My goodness??? What were they thinking? There are not enough spaces, and everyone pulling in this afternoon was driving a big SUV or a Minivan so it was especially difficult. Thanks to the guy walking down the aisle who waved at me to stop backing up so I didn't slam into the lady behind me who didn't check her rearview mirror before backing out! Flowers right when you walk in, so if you are looking to get a hostess gift or freshen your floral arrangements at home it makes it very quick and easy to zip in and zip out. Some favorites of mine--the herb pizza dough balls, mascarpone cheese, cinnamon graham crackers in the clear plastic box, samples of some little nibble in the back, mini cups of coffee and something akin to the siren song that pulls me to the frozen section time and time again! The staff is always very helpful and when they don't know where an item is...they help you find it, don't just point down to an aisle and wish you luck as has happened to me in other grocery stores. I can't do all my food shopping at TJs, the choices are limited, but all that I can, I get there. Parking is ATROCIOUS...they restriped when HT moved out years ago and made more spaces...but lots and LOTS of women who have no idea how to park their oversized SUVs take up two spaces just about every visit...today we saw two different women straddling spots and I wish they'd just left well enough alone with the old striping set up. That is why there isn't a 5th star...poor parking really dampens the experience. And yes...I've only ever seen women blow it on the parking in this lot. I am a Trader Joe's fan, and I am quite partial to this location. The parking is ample and the shelves are well-stocked in comparison to other locations. The employees are typically friendly and helpful. I say typically because I have run into some odd balls that did not seem happy to be working or to assist. Trader Joe's is not a place that I do my shopping for regular, every day groceries, but for specialty items or when guests are over to the house. The produce can be really hit-or-miss. I do love the fresh flowers, and the pricing is great for the quality. I also tend to stock up on some of their frozen entrees for quick, easy meals at home. I particularly recommend the kung pao chicken, channa masala, and the spinach and kale pie. I also tend to purchase a lot of wine when I am here because the pricing is again very reasonable. Try the Cocobon for a good red table wine. read more

I love TJ's....great food, and a pretty decent bang for your buck, when you take into account the great quality of their products. They always are eager to hand out free samples, and by free samples, I mean GOOD free samples....not the "bagel bites" free samples that you get at Sam's Club. Last time we stopped in they were handing out an aged cheese that had been soaked in Syrah, as well as a sample of a good wine pairing to accompany the cheese. Needless to say, I walked out of the store with both a bottle of the wine and a wedge of the cheese. Which is a great segway into their wine selection! I have never been very fond of the "Two Buck Chuck", but they have some other wines in the 5-7 price range that are simply great! I'm by no means a wine snob, but I was always wary of the bargain basement wine deals that have flooded the markets recently. TJ's has made me a believer in the philosophy that you don't have to drop $30 to get a decent bottle of vino. One star removed for the parking lot in this place. Be sure to take your oldest car, because the parking spots are all made for compact vehicles, and every soccer mom and her Suburban are sure to be parked next to you, leaving you a couple of surprise door dings for when you return to your vehicle. read more

My weekly shopping is done at TJ's and I've learned to know when it's not a zoo, when the shelves are fully stocked, and when you can grab a parking spot - for selfish reasons, I'm not sharing my favorite shopping times but....here are some of my favorite items: Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk, Tempura Chicken, Vegetable Fried Rice, Spicy Seaweed Ramen, Veggie Hummus Wrap, Potato Tots, and anything the cheese section. This place is like heaven for me. I WISH WE HAD ONE IN HAWAII!!! While visiting family for the holidays, I made a few trips to Trader Joe's and even loaded up my suitcase with chocolate treats and other yummy little snacks to take home to friends. If you need little hostess gifts, this is a fantastic place to go! Trader Joe's has an amazing frozen food selection, wonderful wine and beer options, tons of organic produce and ready-made meals and a really lovely selection of fresh flowers and plants. I can't get over the prices - they are so reasonable and especially coming from Hawaii where a gallon of milk and a loaf of bread will set you back $12, I felt like going on an absolute shopping spree here...everything was so cheap! And the quality is top notch, so you really can't go wrong. One of my favorite things about shopping at Trader Joe's though, is the incredible staff -- they can always be counted on for friendly assistance. Usually enjoy TJs and is usually a "treat" to go there. But the last two times I've gone they haven't had multiple items I need... first, salmon & asparagus. I can excuse the salmon (sort of, apparently they only got 2 filets that day? Doesn't seem like appropriate planning) but the asparagus, that is a pretty basic item to carry at a GROCERY STORE! And then today, no canned crushed tomatoes and very limited choices for canned beans... I know the choices at TJs are different than a regular grocery store, but these two things seem like they would be pretty simple staples. I was already hesitant to return today bc of the lack of items the first time, but after having to leave and go to another grocery store twice I don't think I'll be back. Phew. You will probably need to take a breather after visiting the Rea Road location of Trader Joe's, especially if you have the misfortune or poor planning to go on a Saturday. Trader Joe's is pretty awesome. I've always heard good things from my friends that found their way over from the West Coast, but never really paid much attention. Positives: - Fresh. Lots and lots of fresh food. Copius amounts of refrigerator/freezer space around the store with lots of food. I haven't tried the deli meat yet, but other meat I've picked up has been great. The frozen seafood is reasonably priced and tastes great. The crabcakes scare me a little bit so I haven't tried those yet. - Selection. I'm big on random snacks, and Trader Joe's helps me indulge. The chip aisle has a great selection of flavored chips like salsa tortilla chips, veggie chips and other things you haven't seen. There are these crackers called Savory Crackers, they're on the back wall in the store and they're fantastic. They actually taste sort of like pork rinds, only they're not actually pork rinds. Negatives: - Soccer moms/crowdedness. This was my only negative and the only reason I gave it a 4 instead of 5. The lines are ridiculously at checkout and don't move especially fast. Trader Joe's is a good place to pick up specialty grocery items. It does have it's own quirks but for the most part it's a great place to find good quality products that aren't too expensive. PROS: * Always has a unique item to taste in the back of the store. * Workers always seem happy and helpful * 2 buck chuck wine (Most of their wines are good and inexpensive) * Plentiful organic selections and choices for vegans including soy cheese * Unsalted raw nuts and seeds * Shampoo and soap without laurel/laureth sulfates CONS * They won't have everything you are looking for. No coconut Oil, unbagged greens, sometimes you have to by produce in bulk * Parking can be bad on Saturday and around rush hour. read more

I went there tonight and they told me I that I cannot enter the store without taking a cart!!! This location is the 2nd highest volume store next to Portland, OR. At least that's what a store employee told me a couple of months ago. From the sight of the parking lot- even on a Tuesday at 11am- I completely believe them. There is parking in the back of the building and I highly recommend putting it to good use. I am a TJ's loyal- for about 15 years. They have a great selection whether you're out for good, healthy bread, produce, poultry, wine, dairy/soy products or chocolate. I highly recommend the seasoned turbot in the frozen section. If you want a different kind of veggie burger, the Masala Burgers (frozen section) are excellent- they taste like samosas without the fried outer part and are surprisingly good in burger form. Pound plus chocolate bars are perfect for making flourless chocolate torte cakes (and you can make one for about $6 or less using TJ's products). They have plenty of organics, premade items including hummus, sushi & salads, non-foods such as flowers, household cleaners and Rosemary Christmas trees, and even some greeting cards (for $.99 ea!) As a plant lover, I have also been known to buy orchids or other plants from their rather large selection in the front of the store. I still have many of these plants and they are great bloomers! I love the cracker and juice selections, and of course the beer and wine. It's fun to put together your own 6-pack of select brews. There is so much more, too. Pass on the produce, though. You could do much better at a local supermarket. I shop the store in Piper Glen. The staff is always friendly and the crowd is a great mix of "granola," golf shirts and everything in-between. The only downfall is the very tight parking. I once saw a driver scrape the entire side of her mini-van and another patron's car too when she pulled into her space. This is my favorite place to go grocery shopping. There is such a nice variety of foods and you probably won't be able to find what they sell here at Harris Teeter or another competitor. Parking here is a pain. It's always really busy and spaces are kind of tight. I usually park near the Jamba Juice parking spaces! As for their products (which applies to all stores), TJs has a large selection of pumpkin products for fall. I've seen pumpkin cookie butter, pumpkin cereal bars, pancakes & waffles, pie, etc. You will find pumpkin everything here. Also try their freeze dried fruits. I'm originally from California where we've had Trader Joe's for a long time, and so I was very happy when this Trader Joe's came to town! I still have to drive about 45 minutes to get here, but it's worth it. I love Trader Joe's. They have a large, friendly and very helpful staff, and a nice variety of good healthy foods, produce, dairy, meats, frozen items, including many organics and the cost is very reasonable. I don't drink wine but cook with it occasionally, and they also have a big wine selection. I do a good part of my grocery shopping here every week! If you've never been to a Trader Joe's you really should check them out. Hint: go as early in the morning as possible because they do get very busy as the day goes on, and the parking lot gets filled up too. read more

All the employees at TJ are very helpful, polite and happy to work there. Their store policy to bring back any items that you don't like is awesome! They'll refund your money happily. I really do like Trader Joe's. They have a good product mix, and good quality. However, this location does not have enough room for South Charlotte. The parking lot is a disaster with the Greenway across the street, and I'm always afraid I'm going to hit someone parking in the lot behind the store. The isles are really hard to move your way through. Especially at the beginning of the store with the produce and meat. There are always a million people trying to get in. Same goes with the exit. There's always a huge line of people waiting to check out. The cashiers do a great job at getting people out quickly, and always with a smile. I know when this location was a Harris Teeter, there was hardly anyone in the parking lot. Now I think they should consider moving, and expanding. It would make everyone happier. read more
