This place treats different people differently. I have been shopping here for over 10 years and have noticed the customer service has gone down the drain recently. Maybe it's due to the sheer volume of customers, but I have been here two days in a row, and both days I was treated very differently. One thing to keep in mind here is that there are no express checkout lines, so if you're just getting a few items, you are stuck behind people who could be buying 20-30+ items and have to wait a long time. Customers also have a bad habit of hovering outside of lines and rushing towards open cashiers. Yesterday, the store was busy. Additional cashiers came up, and all of a sudden it was a free for all rush to get to open cashiers. I was behind someone who was buying a lot of items, so I got screwed and had to wait even longer to get my items than other people. Today, I was going to get in line and as I am going up to a line, one cashier walks away, and another cashier who just opened up starts to call the next customer over. So I am walking over, and then she tells me, "not you, but the other lady". I asked her how come yesterday it was a free for all and today they are picking people? She just said the other lady was the next customer and she will help her. She then tries to get someone else to help me, but that wouldn't be fair to the "next customer" waiting in another line, would it? So, I was a bit confused and walked to the podium where I could ask them what the official policy was, and they said the cashiers are to help the next customer in line. Alright, so now that made sense. I got back in line later, and this time another cashier was very curt, and grabbed a bag without asking if I wanted a bag. I don't want to pay for bags, so I said no. The rest of the transaction he was quite rude, and said "bye bye now" very rudely. His tone was completely unacceptable. Then it dawned on me, he probably saw me go to the podium and talk to the people. And he didn't like me asking questions, so he judged me and decided that he will be rude to me. This is how the store employees treat paying customers. If I had a choice, I would go somewhere else. read more

Today went to stock up on my groceries over heard the cashier Demetria was yelling at this poor old guy about cutting the line. Got up the the register and she was giving an attitude because I requested a bag with a handle. I can see the bag with a handle on the side and she said we don't have any bags with a handle. Even after telling her there is a bag with a handle she said we don't have anything. Until I pick it up to show her. Then she throw my groceries around an put it back in the bag with a handle. I have been shopping at one Trader Joes or another for over 25 years. They were pretty unique back then with not a lot of competition. Since then, other unique stores like Sprouts have popped up along with great local markets like Nugget. As the popularity of Trader Joe's has increased, their quaint narrow aisles have turned into lanes of mortal terror with suburbanite terrorists shoppers aggressively forcing their way through them with reckless abandonment and little consideration for others. Not only are their aisles narrow, the packaging of their products is done in such a completely chaotic, haphazard manner that it is nearly impossible to see or read the items without picking up each item individually off the shelf while the super aggressive yuppie suburbanite terrorist customers impatiently attempt to run you over. They will tell you "excuse me" while they run you over so I guess that makes it all right. We would not like them to be impolite Suburban terrorist. However your blackened toe nails and the bruises on your legs do not really care if they are polite. Add the polite suburbanite terrorists and dangerously narrow aisles to the way that Trader Joe's constantly changes their packaging and discontinues items and you have an extremely stressful and most unpleasant situation. I really think their mantra is "we discontinued that item". I am pretty sure they even have training classes just to teach their employees how to robotically repeat the mantra "that item has been discontinued" in a continual loop. It is a good thing there is a Nugget Market across the street from this particular Trader Joe's so you can pick up all of the items they have discontinued. I have to constantly monitor my sodium intake so it is important that I find low and no sodium versions of most products. This requires me to continually read labels to make sure that the products do not have too much sodium for me to eat. Too much sodium can easily cause me to have a heart attack or stroke. I have been very surprised at how easily a small excess of sodium or fluid intake can bring on my symptoms. Realizing this is a life or death situation, I have started scouring stores for items to help me with my cooking thus making it easier to maintain a low sodium diet. .Trader Joe's attempts to cater to people like me that are forced to be on low sodium diets. They have even gone out of their way to the point of having a list of low sodium items available on line. Most of the items on the list are common items like fruits and vegetables and juices that are naturally low in sodium. They even have a few low sodium and no sodium choices for items such as chips and bread that are normally loaded with salt. The list would be much more helpful if it stuck with the items that are low and no sodium substitutes and it listed the amount of sodium per serving of each one of these items. Stores like Nugget Market across the street realize how hard this life or death task is for the few of us that have this medical problem and have been nice enough to offer a map showing which aisle the low sodium items are on. I have yet to find a store that has a low sodium section. I have never even been able to mentioned it without the person working in the store laughing in my face and Trader Joe's was certainly no exception. There is a lot of processed products that are low in salt. It is just getting stores to carry them and when they do, making it easier for us to locate them on the shelves. What good is stocking a product if those of us that need it do not know you have it or we cannot find it? read more

I adore Trader Joe's, and I'm surprised I haven't reviewed this one yet as it's the one we tend to go to. The one in Sacramento is probably closer but that parking lot is the worst! This parking lot is decently big as it's in a shopping center, but it can get pretty packed. My boyfriend and I try to go during "down times" but I've started going after work. Grab a cart and start shopping! I generally start by grabbing some $3.99 flowers, located right next to the entrance. The produce section is big and that is my next stop; they have lots of different produce, including chopped up butternut squash which is so convenient, along with bagged broccoli, spinach, etc for ease. Sometimes I have noticed their produce can be a bit moldy, so just look carefully. It's rare but happens. In the produce area is also tempeh and tofu which we tend to grab. They have cheap tofu here! There is also tons of different cheeses, their shredded cheese is a pretty good price and they have lots of different, fun cheeses such as Unexpected Cheddar and a very good brie which label I can't recall. We rarely buy meat, but they have pretty good breakfast sausage here in various flavors. Next stop tends to be bread and tortillas; make sure to check the expiration dates as they generally have dates expiring a few days after. Guess that's good, less preservatives? Obviously grab a sample and some coffee while you're here! They have good eggs and decently cheap Greek yogurt; the plain one is great for many different uses. Salted, European butter - yes! Good OJ, and cheaper than usual vegan butter (Earth Balance). Frozen section is wonderful, lots of ready to go meals. Their frozen pizzas are yummy, and we always get their hash brown patties and the vegetarian sausage. They also have interesting ice creams, as well as different chocolates and other treats in this aisle. Try the s'mores and mint chocolates! Next aisle over is general items: flour, pasta ($0.99), tomato sauce, beans, etc. And COOKIE BUTTER! After that snack aisle: chips, popcorn (herb popcorn is the best!), and so on. They recently switched the store up so maybe my little mental map is incorrect! Then, the alcohol. I love their wines! Such good prices for many different kinds of wine including imported ones. Beer and liquor is cheaper here too I believe, if you are a whiskey drinker go here for Scotch and such. The cashiers are friendly and always helpful. I love the Trader Joe's flyers and always want to buy every single thing in it. Currently I have my eye on some wines listed in the latest edition. Why four stars instead of five? Tends to be packed, though admittedly not their fault, and they don't carry everything we usually need (bulk items for example). I used to frequent this grocery store a lot more, but it is really out of the way for me. That being said, lately I have been on an Indian food kick and their frozen Indian entrees are BOMB. And all are in the 300 - 400 calorie range, which works great for me. If I were to go to an Indian buffet for lunch I could easily eat my weight in samosas alone, so these let me feel like I am indulging without the inevitable subsequent self-hatred. Their stores have their own brand of almost all of your basic grocery items PLUS their liquor area is pretty low price. They do however need to work on their craft beer selection. And being a smaller store, they have pretty limited selections on everything. But what they do have is quality. read more

At first I thought it would be silly to review this grocery store since EVERYONE knows Trader Joe's I'm sure, but I realized I need to declare my undying love for this place. Trader Joe's I'm obsessed with you. I saw a BuzzFeed "listacle" about recipes from Trader Joe's that you should try and I figured I'd try it some out because I needed easy meals to make. I am now HOOKED on this place. First I tried their masala simmer sauce and omg so good! I just recently tried Indian food too but I love this sauce now. I just recently tried the naan bread and that paired perfectly with the masala. A lot of their international foods are so great and they taste basically like going to a restaurant (i.e. the Thai red curry mixed with the coconut cream...SO GOOD). The frozen food section is awesome and everything basically cooks in less than 15 minutes. I have to force myself not to want to go everyday because it's a little further from my house than I'd like. The prices at Trader Joe's are AMAZING too. You can buy everything for a dinner for 2 under like $15 (I'm being very liberal with the pricing...I haven't actually calculated the costs for some of our meals yet). I've bought so much stuff there because I just want to try everything. Today's haul was dark chocolate covered pomegranate seeds and dark chocolate covered edamame. Random stuff but all delightful. Trader Joe's quality used to be one of the best, but recently their products are out of date, stale. I even bought a pack of tortillas that was molded and they had 4 days left to be out of date, I've had to stay in line because of the virus for 25 min and that is ok, but why bother with a distance line when wearing a mask and gloves is not required and most employees aren't wearing mask either. I applaud Costco for having their employees and customers wear a mask. I will never shop at Trader Joe's again unless they require mask. read more

I'm so lucky to live by Trader Joes. It's everything I want in a grocery store: none of the food, even the processed kinds, contain hydrogenated oils or high fructose corn syrup (2 of the worst ingredients), friendly animated staff, free samples (I don't deny free food. Ever), delicious foods that are still healthy, cozy atmosphere (I love grocery shopping, but I'm always having a blast here and sometimes wish I could buy the whole store), foods of all different cuisines, shoppers don't have that snobby "healthier than thou, everything has to be organic" attitude, fresh produce at a reasonable price...because we all know that fruits and vegetables are so damn expensive these days. Not at Trader Joes though. I can't wait for summer to come because that's when berries are in season. Especially strawberries, my favorite fruit. The strawberries here are actually sweet!! Which is awesome because I don't like it when my fruits are too sour (except for oranges and apples). I also love the chips with the really spicy Chipotle salsa, spicy hummus, raw shredded Parmesan cheese, and low-fat vanilla bean yogurt, sushi...aww what the heck, if it's from Trader Joes then I will most likely love it :) read more

Oh how I love Trader Joe's with an undying passion. Of course it would be fitting for it to be my first review! The staff is always friendly. Not to mention, they are always fashionably hip with their Hawaiian print shirts. The staff is normally on the older side but its always fun when there are younger associates. Except when you catch one staring at your rear buttocks while you're stocking up on roasted seaweed. Awkward.... Back to the seaweed, they are only $.99! My favorite guilt-free snack, you can literally eat the whole package(and another one while you're at it) and not feel like a fat slob. Their frozen food sections are pretty tasty and better quality than most frozen food I've come across. I enjoy buying my mother flowers from here. I also love that I can come here for more health-oriented items. Hey, I'm not going to be young forever(sadly). I feel more comfortable buying my raw apple cider vinegar here. This Trader Joe's location is a bit smaller than Bay Area Trader Joe's but they are always stocked and super clean. The staff is always friendly and helpful whenever(almost always) can't reach the top shelf for my favorite cheeses. I love their pre made salads especially the lemon arugula salad. I love the Sesame Soy Ginger Vinaigrette salad dressing from Trader Joe's. It's cheap ($1.99) and healthy for you. I was surprised to see how cheap the red roses were too. A dozen red roses were only $4.99!!! What a steal. Guys you should definitely get your girlfriend roses from here. There are definitely great deals here considering they have organic items. My family and I are such a fan of Trader Joes! What's not to love about great parking, great produce, and staff that are so friendly you'd think they were brainwashed into being so? My fiance and I frequent this Trader Joe's location for our veggies and salad dressings. I also love their choices of bagels and baked goods. The prices are equivalent to Safeway or Raley's but everything is so fresh!! We come here weekly as we only buy what we can use up for the week and have not have a bad experience yet. Yes, they carry a lot of seasonal items, so what you find this season may not be in the store next season, but it also leads us to try new things. Currently we are loving their yellow grape tomatoes. What differs Trader Joe's from other locations is the care they take in bagging my groceries! Never ever ever have I ever had a bruised banana because the cashier manhandled it like it was a part of his body (if you know what I mean). I bought a reusable grocery bag from TJ and they always always put everything in so carefully. If the items don't fit right, they would re-bag it again so that everything fits in there. They're so good at it that the cashier process never takes a long time either! Hands down my favorite grocery store. Love this place!!! read more

Always great service and customer satisfaction here! I complained about my Alfredo and pesto sauce getting moldy after just a few days (very inconvenient!) but they assured that if it happens to let them know and they'll replace it. Ever since this place opened I've been a fan. They eschew the normal "super"-market mantra of "more is better." Instead, they seem to focus on a few, quality products in a smaller space, saving you time on your normal grocery runs. To me, Trader Joe's is like the "Mac" to all other grocery chain "PCs." Trader Joe's seems to depend heavily on their own branded foods. Trader Joe's coffee, tea, frozen food, milk, and juice are all the norm, in addition to other national brands. This isn't a bad thing; I have yet to find a TJ-branded product I dislike. Also, their produce is always fresh and good. And everything is generally cheap! I am a particular fan of making pizza with TJ ingredients. They sell raw pizza dough in three flavors for $1.50, and you can get all kinds of flavored sausages and cheeses and such. Yummy, consistent result. Can't go wrong with this place. Though I am admittedly a TJ fanboy, they live up to their reputation. read more

Great place to stretch a dollar. Feeding a family of 4, you really see the value of a dollar at Trader Joe's. One downside here - they will sell out-of-date milk products (like other Supermarkets, they turn the due-date backwards so you don't see it right off.) You have to double check everything. Also, they don't really go for locally grown produce, but that's more of a function of their business model, so I won't ding them for that. They are the best grocery baggers in the world. Go to Safeway or Bel Air and see how they bag your groceries - most aren't motivated, pack heavy objects on bread, etc. . Every bagger from every Supermarket should be required to go to Trader Joe's and see how it's done! They really take pride in customer service here. read more

Too many good things to leave a review for here. I like the people that work here because they are all so friendly. The food products are also good and have good prices. Among snack foods I like getting the ghost pepper chips, large containers of chocolate chip cookies and espresso pillows (chocolate coated espresso beans). Occasionally they will have holiday or seasonal foods like the yummy Thanksgiving stuffing chips. Oh man if they sold those year round I'd get a bag every time I shopped here. Also if you like eating ice cream, you have got to try out there cookies and cream cookie butter, I've brought a few jars to ice cream socials and everyone including myself loves it. That's not the only type of butter they have, I recently tried their sunflower seed butter on bread and it's like the most amazing butter I've had. Some items are a bit pricey but most items in the store have a really good price. My favorite "grocery store", bar-none. Especially because of their flowers/plants section. You can buy a really beautiful bouquet or house plant here for around $7-$12, and I never go there looking for a flower and not end up buying one. Just a little tidbit about their food, their frozen foods and desserts section has a lot of delicious dishes, including orange chicken and profiteroles... Their wine selection is large from what I saw, although I can't speak to the quality of their selection. Great place for lots of convenient food items. Easier to get in and get out than big grocery stores and so so so much friendlier staff. My kids actually like to come shopping with me here. They like to push the little kids shopping carts, try the samples, and get stickers at checkout. Haha... I like the variety of interesting items. Solid prices on stables like bread, yogurt, frozen veggies, eggs, some meats and cheese. Some items are a bit more expensive; however, they are unique to TJ's and/or are made with higher quality ingredients and less or no preservatives so I think the price is worthwhile. Overall, I enjoy shopping at this TJ's and wish they'd build more closer to town in Sacramento because most people have to drive into a suburb to find a TJ's (Elk Grove, Folsom, Natomas, Carmichael by Fulton, Sunrise area). There 1 TJ in Sacramento near Sac State, and that's it. I know they know what they're doing in terms of where they place their stores, but I do think the Land Park/SLP/Pocket/Greenhaven area could use one, and probably the east part of Elk Grove/Vintage park/Churchill Downs/Waterman/Bradshaw area could use one too. But hey, I'm just a shopper and not a grocery store strategist, so what do I know. In summary, I love TJ's 19c bananas (loss leader), eggs (usually $1.49 sometimes $1.99 in the winter when chickens lay fewer eggs), $1.49/lb natural (but not organic) chicken drumsticks, $2.99 raisin bread (loaded and delicious toasted and amazing as french toasts), and their cottage cheese (I know it's an acquired taste) and yogurts. read more

This is the first place I stop when I go out grocery shopping. Their produce is always very fresh and priced nicely. The store is small so they don't have a huge selection like Raley's, but I think their produce is higher quality. Kids love to shop here too, since the workers are friendly, they have free samples, stickers, and a chalk board. They have little kid sized carts that my daughters push around and fill with groceries. Sometimes I will find little treats they squirreled away into the cart and I don't notice it until its already bought. They have a good selection of different craft beers and the selection is always changing. Good place to grab something new without making an extra trip to Bevmo. read more
