I'm a huge Trader Joe's fan, my husband and I occasionally drive the hour it takes us to come shop here. We grew up with a Trader Joe's and were disappointed when we moved to NC and the nearest one was so far. For us it's no problem taking the trip once in a while because it is simply worth the money. The customer service is incredible, the food is amazing (best frozen orange chicken ever!) and the seasonal items are off the charts wonderful (especially the winter time seasonal items). I love that they have their own store version of pretty much everything and it's so well priced. The interior theme of Trader Joe's is always really cool and well decorated. They are super kid friendly and shopping here just makes me happier. I can't emphasize how much this grocery store means to me. If you have never been here, you are really missing out. read more

I love Trader Joe's and this one is great. I used to live in Southern California (where TJ's began and is all over the region) so visiting this store provides me with nostalgia. It's also just a great location with an incredibly friendly staff. Every time I've visited, I've been greeted by multiple crew members throughout the store. Plus, they've always been so willing to help me -- even if they're right in the middle of doing something! And please, who doesn't love free coffee and food samples. The selection of grocery items here is so unique and isn't expensive. The salad and sandwich section is awesome for a quick and cheap lunch. Plus, all of their food is better quality than what you'd find in most other grocery stores. Check those labels! TJ's isn't perfect, but it's one of the best grocery shopping experiences you can have in the Triangle. If you're looking for any frozen, canned or packaged goods, the selection and prices are pretty good. For produce, you're generally much better off at your local farmer's market or regular grocery store. Compared to the Cary TJ's, the Raleigh store is very small. The store can get very crowded on weekends and in the early evening. The good thing is that TJ's has a system for scaling up and scaling down on registers. But, they always tend to reach capacity at peak times. If you're only in it a few items, then you're stuck waiting in line unless someone kind lets you cut in front. Flowers tend to be a pretty solid deal, so make sure to grab some for your significant other. Like every TJ's, you can enter a raffle for free groceries if you bring your own bags. I've been entering the raffle for well over 5 years without success, so I don't do it anymore. I figured that my lucky day isn't coming anytime soon. Most of the employees are very nice and a few of them have started to recognize me when I come in! I'm pretty sure they are trained to talk to customers, especially when they are working a register. Finally, I want to mention a few things you can do to make the shopping experience better for your fellow shoppers. (1) Always bag your own groceries unless another TJs employee is bagging for you. This helps out the cashier and gets you out of the store faster. Win-win. (2) If you have a cart or basket full of a ton of items, let someone with only a few items cut in front. (3) Take it easy when entering/exiting the parking lot. The parking lot isn't fun for anyone, so don't make it worse by driving recklessly. read more

Trader Joe's, I love you! Very much! This location has plenty of parking, pretty wide aisles, does free samples of products, and is nearly always busy! And employees walk through the store carrying giant question marks at the top of a small flag pole with wording that says", "Ask me!" How cool is that!! You don't have to search and search for an unhelpful, aggravated employee if you have a question! We asked why the spot where our favorite triple ginger cookies were supposed to be was empty. And boy did the employee know the answer! He explained about the shopping & trucking delays due to the recent winter storm. So helpful & knowledgeable! I wish I could carry a mini "Ask Me" around throughout the day! We made other purchases and were soon on our way!! What an excellent experience! read more

Trader Joe's - YAY! I found you in Raleigh! Trader Joe's - BOOO! You are the only one in Raleigh (and therefore are always slam-packed!)! OK, so I dig Trader Joe's from my time living in another North Carolina major metropolis where there are three, possibly four, TJ locations. Being the only one in Raleigh means it bears the brunt of all the local shoppers. On Saturday, I believe half of Raleigh was in this location. Trader Joe's is easy on the wallet in so many ways: flowers, wine, snacks, bottled water, fruit, frozen food, veggies.... You will find a lot of organic and gluten-free items here. Single people will be pleased at the single-people portions that are perfect for us, especially in the frozen food and meat sections. Never been to a Trader Joe's? No problem -- you'll find a very helpful TJ employee walking the store with a monstrous 8-foot "ASK ME!!" sign. Trust me...walk on over and ask him. Three bags of groceries at TJ's may run you $40 whereas at other grocery stores those same three bags may run you close to $80. Speaking of which, I really like the TJ's reusable grocery bags - at only 99 cents they're a bargain, great for the environment, and the dark blue bags with green palms look SO California (home of TJ's headquarters). read more

Since I was in the shopping center renewing my NC license plate, I thought I would drop by Trader Joes. It was my 1st trip to this location. I could have stood around and admired the wonderful NC themed artwork on the walls, but I may have gotten run over in this fairly busy location. I also liked the one employee waking around the store holding a "need help? Ask me!" sign. It was enjoyable looking at all of the unique items that you certainly won't see at your local HT, FL, or other chain markets. I purchased a few microwavable items, along with organic chicken broth and a sandwich. Pricing was very reasonable. read more

Many years ago, a student of the Lovely Wife gave her a gift card to Trader Joe's as a Christmas gift. We had never been there before as it wasn't very convenient to get groceries (or anything else). So the card sat in my 'miscellaneous' drawer for years before I finally decided to use it. That visit was a revelation! The first thing that struck me was the customer service. There was, LITERALLY, a woman walking around carrying a big sign asking if anyone needed her help. Whenever I asked her (or anyone!) for assistance, they immediately rush to find out the answer, guide me to what I need or simply chat about their products. Everyone has been genuinely friendly and never act like I'm a bother when I interrupt their work. And I mean that... EVERYONE. Without exception. Along those lines, if there's a problem with a product (rarely, but it happens), the answer has always been. "No problem, get another one." No hassles, no paperwork, nothing! When the lines get long in checkout, they ring the closest bell and someone rushes to open a new line. [As an aside, they hide a stuffed squirrel in a hawaiian shirt so that kids can look for him to get a treat.] Next are the products: The produce and deli items are limited but generally fresh and well-stocked. They have specialty items in many sections that keep me coming back (Mire poix, frozen dumplings, frozen korean pancakes, smoked cheese, baked tofu and so on). Their store brand includes things you can't get in other places so it's not just a duplicate of what everyone else has (ghost pepper waffle cut chips... yum!). Lastly, I'm going to pick some nits. Yes, they aren't perfect despite the five star score I'm giving them! The parking lot is a nightmare to navigate on busy days. The aisles in the store are a bit narrow (I use a large over-the-shoulder shopping bag instead of a basket or cart), the selection is more limited than in even a small grocery store and don't expect the name brands you like to be there. Despite all that, I go about once every other week and intend to do so for the foreseeable future. Do yourself a solid and give them a try (even without a dusty gift card, ha ha!) read more

Trader Joe's used to be known for their friendliness, and a generally upbeat shopping experience. It appears the staff & management has had a significant shift since the Spring. No in- store help locating items, employees complaining openly about customers- absent of any grace, kindness or goodwill in this location. We had transitioned away due to lack of fresh produce (usually rots within the week), recalls on their frozen products and a few bags of grains filled with moth flies .... but today sealed the deal. Plenty of other places to shop and good businesses to support than what this small chain has become. read more

Love this store and I wish we had one here in fayetteville. This is the place to buy groceries if you want something different. They have some really unique stuff in the frozen section and I can honestly say that I love their cereals, granola bars, sparkling water, sauces, and wines. The bagged popcorn cooked in olive oil is a religious experience and healthy !!! I take a freezer bag and load up when I am in Raleigh. The store is small and crowded but they keep it well stocked. Cashiers are nice and you get a raffle ticket if you bring your own bags to re-use. read more

I might stop in at Trader Joe's if I am in the market for something fresh and unique. They do have high quality food items that they carry. They are not as big as Food Lion, or some other store. They are small and carry products similar to that of Whole Foods or The Fresh Market. A team member will walk around with a sign saying you can ask them for help. They are very friendly, and are there to assist you, which I find refreshing compared to other stores. #350 read more

I want to commend Trader Joe's for their current safety and cleanliness procedures. They are only allowing 40 shoppers at a time in the store. There's a line on the side of the store which encourages patients to maintain a safe distance as they wait. Team members wipe down each cart as it's returned and have hand sanitizer. They also wipe down each check our area after each customer. Certainly crappy circumstances, but it was actually the nicest Sunday afternoon shopping experience I've ever had at Trader Joe's. read more

I come to this Trader Joe's because I go to the sushi spot across the street and it is just convenient. The only things I really get from here are Georgia peach cookies and dried phillipine mango slices! Overall a clean store and lots of healthy food options although more on the pricier side. I still am not completely sure I understand all the hype, but there are a couple items that warrant 4 stars. Back when I lived in NYC there was always a LINE to get INSIDE the store. Uhh. No thanks. No grocery store is worth that. When given the choice, I will always pick Aldi's. It is way cheaper. And yes, I understand it's the same company. Trader Joe's is the yuppy hipster granola cousin of the German guys or something like that. I get it. BUT, the other day I experienced grocery nirvana. Its name is "Trader Joe's Spiced Cider". My lord, what do they DO to this stuff? It is seriously the best cider I've ever tasted- the mulling spices they used are incredible. It tasted like it was brewed fresh in somone's homemace crockpot. (Well the crockpot probably wasn't homemade, but the cider could have been.) I mixed it with some rum, and my soul came closer to Jesus. Or Buddha. Or someone..... The second thing is the brownie mix. (Judge away- I don't care. Sometimes you just don't have time to bake them from scratch. It happens.) They are moist and wonderful. Sidenote: what the hell is everyone's problem with the word "moist"???? I personally love the word. For the simple fact that it makes me think of Trader Joe's brownies. Or rich potting soil. Or the steam room. Or the brownies again..... I digress. At any rate, this grocery won't be my go-to, but there are certainly some good finds here. read more

So my partner was (and probably still is) a dedicated fan of Trader Joe's. I tried to appease her for a while by shopping there because the organic fruit is cheap. And it is cheap when they have it in stock, and that's a big "if". My beef with Trader Joe's is that I can't buy a lot of of the staple items that I need. Their veggie and fruit selection is alright (and very reasonably priced), but they don't have anything beyond the ordinary (and they don't sell collared greens, which *is* an ordinary item around here). Their cheese selection is only so-so, and their canned goods have only a tolerable selection. The focus of this store seems to be prepared goods, and that's just not my schtick. But even if it was, I have to wonder whether their store is really better, or whether the slightly different layout of the store and the "crew" of staff (with the friendly and somewhat bohemian personalities) make an otherwise mundane shopping experience a bit more interesting. I still go here from time to time, but they're not a part of my regular shopping round anymore because there's nothing extraordinarily good about shopping there. read more

I was recently at this Trader Joe's location and I just wanted to share my experience because I was so touched. I forgot my credit card at the register and I had already loaded my groceries and was pulling out of the lot, and I notice my cashier running out of the store towards me. Confused, I stopped, and he's acting out the words "blue" and "card". At that moment I realized I forgot my card and that he was speech impaired. The fact he cared so much to run outside to act out and tell me my card was still inside was so heartwarming. Thank you so much. Friends who don't shop here don't expect the prices to be good and the selection to be excellent, but reasonable prices and a wide selection are exactly what you'll find at this Trader Joe's. Today, they had wonderful Brussels sprouts on a stalk! This is probably my favorite seasonal find at T.J.'s. Also in my cart--a bottle of wine, a single beer (to make bread!), fresh mozzarella, and sweet red peppers. The Crew is fantastic; one crew member saw I needed help and came to me before I ever saw him. As nice as this store is, it's still on the small side, and gets crowded easily. I don't do all of my shopping here, but there are some things (Brussels sprouts, for instance) that I'll only buy at Trader Joe's. read more

I've been shopping here since they opened when my daughter was a baby (she is 10 now) and still see some of the same helpful staff in the store. The size of the store is just right and they keep it very well stocked despite how busy it gets. Somehow you can always find a place to park too. This TJ's seems a lot smaller than the Chapel Hill store, and maybe even slightly smaller than the Cary store, but it's still TJ's, and still has great deals on everything I love to go there for, whether it's turkey bacon, a variety of cheeses or just a case of two buck chuck. The staff here were awesome, from the young lady carrying around a shark fin sign that says "ask me" to the gal at the cash register who greeted us with a smile and wished us a terrific holiday weekend. read more

If you review one you have reviewed them all. Super consistent. Always has good quality odd ball stuff for very good prices. Only problem here is that they have few locations and everyone loves them so it's a madhouse and packed all the time. Tuesday during the day is the time to go. I mean who doesn't love Trader Joe's. If you can get past how busy it is, it's really a great shopping experience. They have many options and also carry things that you may not find at your typical grocery store. Their prices are good and since their products usually are a higher quality, you may find yourself paying a little more but you get what you pay for. I usually go there for the grocery items that I cannot find at my local grocer like certain blends of salads, their spices, nut blends, and they have great pricing on their almond butter. The staff is always friendly and willing and available to help with any questions. It is located in the Holly Park shopping center and if you are familiar with that area then you know that traffic is heavy. The parking lot for that shopping center is sizable so you will find a spot, it just may not be right in front of the store which I do not have a problem with. read more

Whoa. As a former employee of the fabulous Trader Joe's company (2005-2006), I have to say this store is a major fail. I went in at around 7 on a Monday night and the veggie shelves were empty. I mean, there was celery and mushrooms. A little bit of salad, but not much and LITERALLY nothing else. I can honestly say that as long as I have been shopping here (and I've been to them all, I travel and don't eat out a lot so this is my store) I have never seen shelves this utterly bare. To make my visit even more painful I asked a guy who was messing with an empty pan where something was and he told me to 'hold on.' While what? You do something completely meaningless that has nothing to do with serving the customers you were hired to? Carry on, I'll wait, I have all night. Needless to say I got very little of what I needed so I shopped around a minute and then proceeded to check out. Since I'm a fan of being helpful, I bagged my own groceries. The girl checking me out barely even bothered to acknowledge me or the fact that I just did her a solid. Not only that, but I get to my car and go to pull out and have to turn back around because I forgot my phone. Grrrrrrrrrrrr. I run back in and the checker has it in her hand and the screen is on. The only way you can do that is to push the button to turn it on. WTF? I mean, I guess she could have been trying to find out whose it was, but please don't. Give it to management. She looked surprised when I came back for it and handed it over. Corporate better not see this mess of store or y'all are all fired. read more

I agree with the previous 2 posters. Most of the staff is cheerful, helpful, and just lovely, and Trader Joe's is still great, but some of the cashiers/baggers have gotten extremely rude. I've been 3 times in the last 2 months and 2 of those were terrible at the checkout. COVID-19 is stressful for everyone, but there is no need to act like a barracuda. I mean, yikes! If you go, make sure you stay in the lines that are taped to the floor or risk having you head bitten off, never mind the fact that the credit card machine is outside of the lines.I'm not gonna stop going to Trader Joe's, but I will call out those (very) few individuals that are rude, because they are not indicative of norm. read more

We shop there weekly. Staff is very friendly. I love buying their seasonal fruits, and Korean kimuchi. If one of the fruits is unfortunately bad inside, I can get a refund without a hassle. Just recently found bread called Sliced French Brioche. It's moist, soft, a hint of sweetness. The best bread ever! read more

I was SHOCKED that I had not reviewed this TJ since I was one of those peeps who stalked it since it was talked about being open a couple of years ago. This locale is VERY busy but is a great location since almost everyone who lives in Raleigh has to get on the beltline at some point and when you do, you can easily swing off of the Wake Forest rd exit and get what you need. What do I need? 1. Two buck chuck, AKA Charles Shaw by the case for any and every event. 2. Fresh flowers that won't die in a few days at a bargain price. 3. Feta and onion pastry bites (get a box in the frozen food section, you WILL NOT regret it) 4. Dark chocolate TJ bar 5. Dog treats You will always be greeted and helped by super friendly staff who are not annoying and can spark up a convo that is interesting in seconds. LOVE LOVE LOVE Trader Joe's! read more

I love Trader Joes. I really do. But sometimes love hurts, and TJ's is not immune. The Love: The food. The fresh produce is great. We have shopped at Whole Foods and Earthfare, but TJ's has the best price by far for the quality of their organic produce. The selection is better than your typical Harris Teeter/Kroger/Food Lion, and at prices a normal family can afford. Moving along, the cheese selection is awesome! 3yr aged gouda is out of this world as well as the special TJs cheddar. I'm salivating thinking about it. They also have a lot of raw milk and grass-fed cheese choices, and grass-fed butter at again, more than reasonable prices. Frozen selections are excellent, which has thoroughly been discussed in previous reviews. I won't spend a lot of time, but great prices for organic fruits/vegetables, delicious entrees and lunch items that don't have preservatives, HFCS and other little nasties that find their way into regular food fare. Bread is great, we love their pitas, sprouted sliced bread and bagels. Be sure to keep them refridgerated when you get home so they last longer. Have to learn to cope without preservatives, so word to the wise. Staples/canned foods- surprisingly excellent. Never thought canned black beans or tomato sauce would get me going, but wow. Excellent. Pasta, rice, quinoa all in great varieties and wonderfully priced. Definitely check out their nuts/fruit/trail mix. Worth every penny. We also get our raw honey, maple syrup and coconut oil here. Alcohol- while we don't drink, we do cook with it quite a bit and the selection is borderline overwhelming, but in a good way. Service- if all of the previous things don't convince you to give TJs a shot, the service should. Honestly, I'm not a big service person, at restaurants or wherever. I've always had a great experience with the staff at each of their locations, Raleigh, Cary and Chapel Hill. I read an article a while back which examined the business models of TJs and Costco in that when they choose to invest in their employees i.e. the more they hire, the greater their profits are. Also, it's just nice to talk to people who have a personality, not some drone in khaki that give the same canned phrases. The Hurt: Sadly, I am not the only person who knows about TJs. It's always crowded and many customers are either just inconsiderate or enamored with the awesomeness of the store that they just don't think about anything else. I've gone various times of the day and have yet to find one in which it's not at least moderately busy. Which I guess is good for the store. It does kind of suck to actually go through the experience. People just stop in the aisle, angling their cart to block the entire aisle in both directions, or hover around the condiments writing a dissertation on the value of garlic aioli mustard vs. dijon mustard seed. I'd like to hope it's not intentional or maybe it's just the type of person who shops here tends to be of the more inconsiderate variety, but it's a serious turn-off. I admit, I am addicted to their cookie butter. I have it practically every day and you should too! Trader joes has some unique stuff- cookie butter being one of them. Love their pumpkin pancake mix and corn puffs too! They ALWAYS have yummy samples available. Yes this location might get crowded but the workers here are always in such a positive mood that you forget about the lines/limited space! Everything here is pretty darn cheap minus their meats. I *heart* TJ's. (Yes, we're on a nickname basis. It's like that.) My only regret is that there isn't a hot bar/ prepared foods section and seating the way you'd find at most WF or Earth Fare locations, but it's not enough of a downer to make me anything less than TJ's faithful. A few things TJ's has up on some of its genre-mates: - The vibe! TJ's is a fun place to shop, and the staff seem to genuinely enjoy their workplace. I can't think of even one occasion at ANY TJ's where I haven't gotten into a convo with my checkout attendant about a particular product, how he/ she/ that person's significant other/ that person's kid likes to have it, how there's this other thing I should try if I love that thing I am buying, etc. And the people wandering the floor with the big question mark on a stick? Truly helpful and engaging. In my experience, no other larger chain market comes close. - Seasonal goodies. Yes, I am a total sucker for seasonal items, be they produce, baked, boxed, bottled or frozen. It makes me sad when they go away, but when a new season's stuff appears I'm whole again. TJ's is always changing up their stock, and many of the changes can be traced to seasonal reasons. It keeps the shopping trips (and therefore, my plate and pantry) interesting and fun. - Hello, multitude of delicious and inexpensive wines!!!! - The quality of the products. TJ's doesn't carry almost any mass-produced, big name brand products like you'll find at conventional markets. Normally, this could be an issue, as the specialty brands can get pricy... but not at TJ's. TJ's house brand stuff is usually awesome, and of a far better quality and better flavor than the big names at a price that doesn't make your wallet try and run for the door. Here are just a few of my favorite items that I get exclusively at TJ's... if they sound like something you'd be into, TRY THEM!!! Seriously. I'll even mention where you can find them in the store! * Penang Sticks - Frozen Foods - Thin, crisp dough filled with a curry/ un-fishy fish/ shrimp mixture and topped with sesame seeds. A mainstay at our house. * Fruit Floes - Frozen Desserts - Frozen fruit ice pops, $1.99 for a box of four. Buy at least three boxes to start. Make at least one box lime, and one Caribbean. (The Caribbean has chunks of pineapple, strawberries and shaved coconut floating in there. Hell to the yes.) * Kumatos - Produce - These are super-sweet brown tomatoes. They're available now (September) and I'm not sure when they're going away... but get 'em while they're here. Just slice and hit with a bit of kosher salt. Thank me later. * Tandoori Naan, Garlic or Masala - Bread/ Baked Goods - Holy amazingly delicious carby joy, Batman. Sniff 'em through the bag at the store. Nobody will think you're weird, I promise. I love to warm these slightly, cut them in half, and serve up burgers on them. Dear Trader Joes, You may be super crowded every time I go, but even if I have to push little old ladies out of the way to shop, you're still my favorite grocery store. Before I met you, I never realized how amazing frozen meals could really be. Now I get Butter Chicken, Mandarin Orange Chicken, Roasted Vegetable Lasagnas and Black Bean & Corn Enchiladas every time I go. Bonus points for allowing me to prepare wholesome, tasty meals in under 20 minutes. More bonus points for having amazing, energetic staff members that are always ready to help. I also really really really really like your cinnamon dusted toscano cheese. As in, why can't fall get here a bit more quickly so I can stock up again?!!!
