I gotta give Trader Joe's five stars. I guess if I had to detract one star, it would only be because it's always friggin' nuts in there! But there's good reason. People are excited about yummy food at great prices, so I can understand because I am, too! We actually went on a Saturday night (last night) and it was not all that bad. Obviously, since it's new, it's clean and bright and the staff there are some of the friendliest folks you'll meet. One cashier told me how excited she was for me that I was purchasing this one particular item, and wanted to know if we had done anything fun over the weekend. It's relatively small, but has most of what you'll need--fresh produce, meats, cheeses, yogurts, wine, beer, nuts, beans, etc. I'd stay away from any sort of paper good--I go to Target for that. This is a great addition to Raleigh, and I look forward to coming back often. I'll just have to make sure not to fill my cart up too much every time. p.s. Depending on where you park, it can be kind of on a slant. My first time there, I dropped my bag while loading up my car, and while I was distracted, my cart took off straight for a nice, shiny car. Oh, TJ's -- what would I do without you on those nights when I'm just too tired or lazy to cook? Delivered pizza makes a great breakfast the day after, but it isn't so good for you in great quantities! Thanks to you, I can stock my pantry with such lovely things as delicious Indian food (plus naan!), fine Asian-style dumplings or tasty ravioli and do nothing more than boil water when the need arises. When I do want to cook, you're still there for me! Italian food is made easy with your Tuscan marinara sauce (even my cat likes that -- yes, the cat!), there are so many cheeses from which to choose and your fresh fruits and vegetables are the right price, so when I need some produce that I can't buy locally I'm still not spending a lot. A Southern picnic needs some banana pudding, after all! Speaking of which, your vanilla wafer make the best base for that delicacy. The downside is that products do come and go -- how I miss your Texas Toast! All the texture I need for my grilled portobello sandwiches and none of the HFCS found in most brands. Sob. High quality goods and some of the best customer service around remain consistent, however, and that means you'll always have me for a customer! I've reviewed the Trader Joe's in Columbus, Ohio and have visited a number of locations, so I'm happy to report that the spankin' new location in Raleigh maintains all the things I love about the TJ's business model. Affordable specialty grocery items? Check. Gorgeous and often unusual fresh produce and flowers? Check. (I'm serious, guys; if you've messed up with your wife/girlfriend/otherwise significant other, the bouquets here are killer and won't drain your debit card). Staff who will go out of there way to chat you up and help you find that elusive peanut sauce or granola bar you like so much? Check. Happy (almost overly so) shoppers. Double check - and this may be my favorite thing of all about Trader Joe's. It's like the Disney World of grocery stores, and somehow this sense of joy creates a sense of community. So if you bump into someone they're likely to apologize, you can have shopping cart traffic sans road rage, and if your cart starts to roll out into traffic, someone will likely be good-hearted enough to grab it for you before it causes an accident or runs over a small child. One caveat? It is opening weekend and although the staff were perpetually restocking, they were having a hard time keeping some items on the shelves. Bad news if you wanted apple cinnamon oatmeal. Great news if you want to see this Joe's thrive and remain a beneficial member of our community. read more

This wasn't my *worst* Trader Joes experience, but not the best. It's always hectic and stressful due to other customers. Traffic in the store is typically heavy -- this time it was moderate. People tend to become stagnant in certain areas: around the hummus, cheese, condiments, and wine. I was on the hunt for some cheap wine (loading up for the holidays), cheese, and their infamous Egg Nog cookies (my siblings and boyfriend LOVE them). I circled the store, searching for my prize. No luck. I finally caved and asked one of the employees -- who then asked one of the associates at the service desk. Apparently, the Egg Nog cookies didn't sell so well last year. Noooooooo! *sobs uncontrollably* The worst part about this particular Trader Joes is the extremely limited exit area from the check-out lines. Traffic jams were abundant - there were two empty carts that were left in the walking area (right-ward towards the exit doors). Thus, ALL exiting customers started pushing by my boyfriend and I to get out (in the limited space behind us in line). Instead of an employee moving the carts, our cashier rang the bell and told other associates about it. Meanwhile, a customer finally decided to push the two carts out of the way with their own cart. Kinda ridiculous that no one was readily stepping up to remedy the situation. There were also no baggers at any of the check-out lanes. However, there were a BUNCH of employees stocking shelves. This was causing a back-up in every line. This doesn't make sense during a peak time (right before dinner). All and all, Trader Joes is your best bet for affordable wine (love the "3 buck chuck"), cheese, seasonal snack foods, hummus, and snack bars. Employees are typically nice, but the behavior (lack of consideration) and attitudes of other customers shopping are enough to make you pull your hair out. read more

I really enjoy Trader Joe's as a chain. This TJ's is good, although somewhat crowded, even on weekdays. They don't have the soft/fruit drink selection of some stores, and I think it suffers a bit from the ever expanding wine selection, which keeps spreading like some white and red fermented fungus. Where they shine is private label merchandise. Their salsas, sauces and pastas are excellent. If you're trying to locate a specific food item, it can be a bit maddening, as the intuitive spot for merchandise doesn't conform to norms. However, the amount and quality of food you get for the price is excellent. The pricing on meats and cheese tends to be less competitive, but still beats paying the prices at Whole Foods. Where they tend to miss (at least for me) is in frozen/prepared foods. Some of the Indian/Middle Eastern dishes can be a bit unbalanced in terms of seasoning. The Asian stuff tends to lean on the same vegetable mix (carrot, scallion, kale or spinach) in fillings. Still very good, and better than you would get at your regular grocery store. But they can be guilty of getting your hopes up for what can be sort of mediocre food. That's not usually the case, but I'd say you have a 20% chance of disappointment. It's a good thing they offer so many choices. The staff here is friendly, but not as awesome as the folks I've come in contact with at the Cary store. Still, a very good, if somewhat overcrowded (and aren't they all) Trader Joe's. read more

Great produce, great prices! From the clean dog treats to the unsweetened cranberry juice, and did I mention the vegan asparagus soup? My new fave. Kinda jonesing on their avocado salsa thing too. The checkout clerks are always helpful, fun and friendly. Last year, one guy gave me helpful tips on how to train my rescue Beagle dog on how to ring a bell to go outside. My goodness do I love Trader Joe's! From their fresh flowers that are gorgeous to their wide variety of cheeses to their hand soap and hand lotion, they have something for everyone! Some of my TJ favorites are their dark chocolate covered almonds, beautiful flowers to decorate the kitchen table, and their huge selection of cheeses. Nothing beats a cheese and salami plate as an appetizer for a gathering with great friends! If you've never shopped at Trader Joe's, I highly recommend giving it a whirl! read more

If their products' expiration dates would be a little further out and apples wouldn't be bruised.. they'd definitely get four stars. That said, I still really like Trader Joe's. (I call it TJ's, too.) They have this evil little baklava sampler that I really wish they would discontinue. No matter how much I repeat to myself I won't get it, I do every time I see it there. $5 for 10 (very good) pieces of baklava! A friend turned me on to their hummus, but this is no ordinary hummus. It is a white bean hummus with basil! It is soooo good. And, it is like $3-4 or so for a huge amount. They just have such good prices! Their frozen Naan is super (and like $2 for four pieces). Oh, I shouldn't tell anyone about these, but their frozen Masala Burger is super awesome. It is like the inside of a vegetable samosa, but in the shape of a patty. Calling it a burger is misleading, but I'm kind of hoping that keeps people away from it so they always have them there and I don't have to hear "sorry, we're out of them right now but a truck comes on Tuesday" (or whatever day)... I find the best time to go is around 8pm. I can actually browse a little and not have to worry about bumping in to someone, or getting out of someone's way. read more

I have been shopping at Trader Joe's long before they came to North Carolina. My sister lived in DC and turned me on to TJ's in 1990 and I was hooked! I would visit often when I would return home the trunk of my car was always loaded down with all kinds of great food and snacks! Once the Chapel Hill location opened I would make trips with my coolers every 3rd or 4th week. Later I moved to the Outer Banks of NC. The trip to TJ's now was 4 hours. We lived there for 12 years religiously making monthly trips to the Wake Forest Rd Raleigh location. We did this more often if I had Dr appointments or we passed through on the way somewhere else. There were usually 3-4 carts full each time. Recently we moved to the Fuquay Varina area and I am closer to a Trader Joe's than ever! The Cary location is closer but I love the Wake Forest Rd location so much better! Best dilemma to have! A Facebook group has been collecting signatures to request a Fuquay Varina location for a Trader Joe's as the area is booming with growth. Until then I will be keep my fingers crossed! A Trader Joe's was built in my hometown when I left for college, so I have never had the pleasure of living in a town with one until I moved to Raleigh. Since it is specialty food I expected the prices to be much higher, but I was pleasantly surprised to discover that everything in the store is comparable or less expensive than items at our local Food Lion! My boyfriend and I go every other week to stock up on goodies, and it usually lasts. We are big fans of the ravioli, teeny tiny potatoes, the black bean chips, and the frozen meals! The staff is always upbeat, knowledgeable, and happy to help point us in the right direction. The taste test counter is always stocked with delicious items to try, I look forward to it every time we go. The store decor is very bright and colorful and they love NC! The location is in a great spot right off of Rt. 440 and there is always plenty of parking. I can't wait for season items to come out in the fall and winter! Also, our kitten LOVES to play with the empty Trader Joe's bag. Paper bag recycled as a kitten toy -- I think they would be proud. read more

Ahh....I start twitching if I don't make regular stops here! Love, love, love this place! They have almost everything you need packed in quite cleverly. I love the helpers roaming the store with their signs - they're always very nice and, well, helpful. I love that I can find things here that I can't seem to find anywhere else and these rare finds change seasonally! This week I picked up the fig butter, pumpkin butter, cubed butternut squash (we all know how painful it can be to your hands and your knife to chop up a big squash), cubed root veggies, cubed sweet potatoes, and kale....and that was just THIS week. I find their products really make it easy for us working cooks - lots of great pre-packaged stuff without the huge pricetag that most places will slap you with. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention their beer and wine selection...it's great, especially the beer. You can make your own 6-pack by plopping in random singles - great way to make a variety pack! Their wine selection is good, especially if you're looking for a bargain. They're known for their "Two Buck Chuck"...which is actually $3. I however, do not like the famous bargain wine, but many do. They do have other, nicer selections as well. If you've never been to TJ before...well, you absolutely must, but you should know that almost everything is their brand. There are a few exceptions, but expect to see 'Trader Joe's..." on every label. Those of us that go regularly know that it's the same thing you find at more expensive places, ehem...Whole Foods or Fresh Market, but they've switched the label to be their own. I could go on about this place forever, but I'll end my review with a note about their customer service. It's impeccable! You can return anything - whether you've opened it and tried it or not. I once bought cat food for my picky feline and he hated it...no worries - I just brought it on back in and got a full refund - no receipt needed and no questions asked. read more

What an amazing grocery store with an awesome variety of goods and services. Their food is outstanding. And the staff is nice.

I have grown fond of Trader Joe's the more I go there, which isn't that often, only on occasion. I go their mostly for the wine where you can get a pretty good bottle of wine for under $5. I also like their specialty foods such as the frozen teriyaki chicken and frozen lemon bars. They offer some really good frozen pizza too! Everyone comments on the crowds at this location in their reviews, but the few times I have been it hasn't been too bad. I used to go the Chapel Hill location and it seems like that one was always more crowded. I know that the parking situation is a bit better at this one anyway. TJ's won't supplant Harris Teeter as my regular grocery store, but I will continue to visit for the great options on frozen foods and wine. read more

This TJ's has better parking lot than many others I have been to, it's the store that is a bit of a cluster though. Maybe it's just that it's crazy busy all the time but it seems that no matter where you turn, there is a someone in your way or about to run you down with their cart. I had the most unbelievable experience today. The cashier asked me what fun things I had planned for the rest of my day. I told her that, unfortunately, I was going to a celebration of life for a friend we had lost way too young. We talked. She was incredibly empathetic. As I was leaving the store, a young man who works there ran up to me and said, "A little birdie told me you might need this today." And he handed me a bouquet of flowers. And he hugged me. I hugged him back. And I sat in my car for 10 minutes crying tears of joy and sadness. Thank you for making me smile at a time of sadness. I bought some apricots and peaches and when I got them home they tasted bad. Not spoiled, just not juicy and fruitful. I brought them back a few days later and got a full refund in a professional and quick manner. The man at customer service said he had had a problem with the apricots too and returned his. Trader Joe's just opened up in Raleigh this weekend! We headed on down to TJ's which is located just inside the beltline in the same shopping center as Shabushabu and The Melting Pot. The parking lot was P_A_C_K_E_D with 100's of cars at about 6pm on Sunday night. The store was crowded, but no more crowded than your typical TJ's on any given weekend day/night. The store was loaded to the brim with your typical TJ's fare which consists of hard to find "specialty" type items at wonderfully amazing prices. They have a small produce department that has a good selection of bagged salads, specialty cucumbers, mushrooms, vine ripened tomatoes, grapes, bananas, peppers etc. The cheese section has a multitude of cheeses with anything from goat cheese to gorgonzola at unbelievable price points. You can build a cheese platter here for under $10. The middle of the store contains every type of bagged nut, cereal, cracker, and chip you could imagine. The frozen food section has a ton of uniquely prepared international microwave meals, frozen veggies, shrink wrapped fish, and individually frozen chicken etc. The wine and beer sections have "cheap" ($2 buck chuck) options as well as a $75 dollar bottle of cabernet and everything in between. Store employees are hip and friendly and happy to assist you with anything you need. There was a gal walking around with a large sign on a stick that said "ASK ME" if you had any questions. Bring your own bags, or purchase TJ's bags at the check out. read more

I love Trader Joe's and I find that this location has friendly staff. I normally go relatively late at night (between 7:30pm and when it closes) and I've never experienced the masses of people that other reviewers talk about. This Trader Joe's has a pretty standard selection--it's neither the largest nor the smallest store. Overall, this is my best bet for fresh produce, reasonably priced specialty cheeses, and all sorts of random snack food (crispy peas, mini mint ice cream sandwiches, etc.). They also have a great frozen food selection for those of you (like me) that are too lazy to cook every night. read more

We need a TJ's over here in Greenville. I went here for the first time last Sunday and I was impressed! Everything is reasonably priced, clean and the staff are pretty cool and very helpful too. I enjoy their organic and vegan selections as I am a vegan and it's great to find vegan fare for good prices. Their tofu prices are super cheaped compared to where I live. At this location, currently TJ's tofu is $1.49 compared to here where the prices range from $2.50-$3.00 for a package so of course we purchased several packages. Their vegan yogurt is absolutely delish and tastes exactly like dairy yogurt. I had to read the label several times to make sure it contained no dairy (it does not). It was very good and you can get a 1 pound container of TJ's vegan soy yogurt currently for $2.49. We can't even find vegan yogurt here. It had totally slipped my mind while I was there to get a few bottles of their 3 Buck Chuck wines. I've had friends rave over how great the 3 dollar wine is. My husband is there in Raleigh today so I'm having him pick up some wine there on his way home :) All in all, this is a great place and it's a shame that there aren't more Trader Joe's all around, especially one in Greenville. We have a Fresh Market but they would give them a run for their money for sure! So, to sum it up, if you're a vegan or organic foods fan, shop here and you won't break the bank shopping :) read more

I love TJ. Period. This isn't unlike any other Trader Joe's I've been to. We were in the area for a concert and decided to go pick up some drinks for afterwards. They have a better beer and wine selection than the local store I go to in SC. Not sure why, but hey, I'll take it. Picked up some alcoholic seltzer, carrots and hummus, and one of their big 1.5L waters (which are way better than "popular" bottled water brands BTW). The people working here are actually the only reason I decided to review. They were incredibly friendly. Astoundingly friendly. You don't get that at a lot of grocery stores, and it gives a really nice impression of the area--which I'm admittedly not very familiar with. Next time I'm up this way I'll probably add a trip to this TJ to the list if I'm hankering for some wine. read more

I have always liked Trader Joe's here in Raleigh, but this amazing crew is finally getting a review from me in middle of our coronavirus crisis. The last time I was there, I was so impressed with how on the ball these hard-working Trader Joe's representatives were. After standing in a short line to get in, allowing for social distancing within the store, I was offered a pre-disinfected cart by a smiling employee. I was also offered hand sanitizer before entering& exiting. All of us shopped in a clearly very clean store, without worrying about getting too close. The gentlemen who checked me out was friendly and smiling, even though he was clearly working twice as hard as usual, and would be spending time disinfecting the store after closing. Thank all of you for staying out there where your own health may be at risk, so your neighbors have access to groceries. And most of all, for creating as safe a place as possible for us to shop. I love TJs. This one is a pretty good size, with nice wide aisles (compared to the Seattle U-District TJ's and Needham, MA TJ's that I'm accustomed to) and a good wine selection. As with all Trader Joe's stores, the food is so cheap and so good! I recommend the frozen gnocchi alla sorrentina as well as the aged cheddar macaroni and cheese (make it with their nonfat greek yogurt instead of milk--so delicious!). They also sell a good selection of healthy yogurt, none of which use high fructose corn syrup. Try the pomegranate greek yogurt... Yummy. read more

First off, I love Trader Joe stores. My review of their stores in general is 5 stars. I give this location only 3 stars, so it averages to a 4 star review. The reason for the lower review of this location, it is always packed with people. I don't just mean there are a lot of people, I mean there are so many people that you can't move through the store. It reminds me of trying to get out of a packed movie theater at the end of a movie. There is no room at all, just people. I have been on different days and at different times; it is ALWAYS packed. Maybe there is a time where it isn't so bad, but I haven't found it. It makes it hard to really look around at stuff. I hate crowds and get anxious around them, so I dash in and out as quickly as possible. I usually end up forgetting something. I wish they had more locations in Raleigh. The staff here is always super friendly. The cashiers are always smiling and helpful. I like the fact that there is a person that walks around with a big sign with a '?' on it. If you ever have any questions, you know exactly who to ask. They also usually have a sample of some sort in the back. Their produce is usually always fresh and the berries seem to last a long time after purchase. The packaged food here is awesome and the prices for specialty foods are very reasonable. I would like to go here every day, but because of the crowds, I get here maybe once a month. Overall, I still LOVE Trader Joe's. I just don't love this location. I never knew this before (so if they do this at other TJ's I missed it), but have your children look for the stuffed squirrel. I chose Trader Joe's, to pick up some side dishes. I sought assistance / suggestions from the first staffer I saw and received very courteous helpful service. As a result of the suggestions I got some basil soup, mango jicama slaw, tabbouli salad, whole wheat naan, and stuffed naan. I can't over emphasize how helpful the staffer was! I was in out in 5 minutes with my bounty. It was exactly the type of assistance I was looking for in efficiently selecting some tasty sides to go with my main dish...home made chicken curry. Trader Joe's! I remember back in the heyday of Livejournal (hey, shut up and let me date myself, will you?!) listening to my friend Lily sing the wonders of the mystical "Trader Joe's". We didn't have one locally, but constantly hearing about how fun the store was, and the great sales, I was very jealous. Especially since, at the time, being car-less, I was doing most of my shopping at convenience-store prices between the C Store and the Wolf Mart. (Wow, do I CONTINUE to make myself sound ancient?!) Fast-forward and it's (unspecified) years in the future and I'm now married with 2 kids and a budget (boo hiss) and guess what, I LOVE TRADER JOE'S! I confess to doing most of my shopping at the Harry Peter, since it's near my house, but for guilty-pleasure go-to items I love stopping into Trader Joe's. Fortunately for me, the Raleigh location is on the way to/from my kids' elementary school. Yay! Now, the Raleigh storefront is a bit of a PITA simply for parking alone; it's in a complex that simply wasn't well-thought-out. Considering the flow of traffic, it's not the most accessible location ever, but no worse than the other tenants inhabiting the shopping center, so I'm not gonna count them off for that. I love that they carry a few West Coast brands that we don't see at your neighborhood Food Lion, and I would recommend them any day for fresh bouquets (although I would recommend them a lot MORE for February 15th rose bouquets. Several years running I have gotten a dozen plus roses for $7ish, can't beat that!). The only thing that could entice me to visit Trader Joe's more often would possibly be friendlier staff, and being as close to me as a certain other Big Box Supermarket! read more

Great food and great prices. Do not be afraid. The items in the frozen section are great for a quick dinner...and they are healthy. There is plenty of staff roaming the store if you have to ask a question. There is even an employee walking the store with an "Ask Me" sign. Free samples are in the back of the store. The lines can be long if you go during peak hours...Sunday at 8pm is not peak, so go then. Most consumer magazines/blogs/websites give the Trader Joe's brand items very high reviews. If you can find TJ the squirrel, you get a prize from the treasure chest. He is usually high up and wearing a Hawaiian shirt. Please bring your own bags. Trader Joe's does have bags, but that isn't environmentally friendly. If you bring your own bags, they give you tickets for a drawing. read more

So Trader Joe's is a very fun grocery store -- we all know that-- but at this location in particular I've had really great experiences! Last time I was there an employee recommended I get this one wine that was like 4 bucks, the Brazen Red Blend, and WOW. He told me that he and lots of the other employees had bought it up and that I needed to try it. I was getting like 6 other bottles to fill up my wine rack because I'm tons of fun so I said why not! Friendliest staff. They're really good at finding exactly what you need, if you can't find it or they don't have it. If you're unsure that you might like an item, they'll open it and let you try it. I've never asked them do this for me but I've seen it! And their card selection is pretty great-- only 99 cents! I get a lot of my produce either here or Whole Foods. They're priced a little better but don't have quite the organic selection. Still a happy place. read more

I. Love. Trader. Joe's. This particular one is fantastic. The crew members actually seem to like each other. The store is always very clean. The bathrooms are gender neutral. There's almost never a long wait, even when they're very busy. I've considered leaving my job and working here. read more
