Generally the Columbia Pike store has the same goodies as other of their stores at the same great prices. Staff are pleasant and hardworking. What would really make my day is buying all of my groceries in one stop. However, I have to get back in the car to shop another store for the produce section. This Trader Joe's displays stuff that looks good but softens or goes brown within a few days in refrigerator. Lady Apples - half the bag brown within a week. Organic bananas - yellow and ripe looking but hard and brown within, so much so that half of each one was inedible. Before buying, you have to check out the mini-carrots in bags to make sure they're not mushy. read more

For those of you that aren't familiar with this California grocery chain, it's like the working man's Whole Foods. The prices are excellent and the TJ's brand hasn't let me down yet. Being a recent LA transplant it's been a little difficult for me to find some of the foods that I like. One thing that's been a surprise to me is how difficult it has been to find artisan breads. The markets here sell more soft breads and that's not really my thing. I missed my crusty sourdough bread and TJ's has it. Including sandwich versions. They have an amazing assortment of cheeses, and their prepared frozen foods are mostly organic and are decidedly tasty. The chicken teriyaki with organic greens is my go to lazy meal these days. TJ's isn't super comprehensive. I wouldn't say this replaces a major chain, or even Whole Foods. TJ's purchases large quantities of specific items, which is why their prices are so competitive. You'll still need to go to a regular market. I do however go less often. Don't expect the flash of Whole Foods, or the variety of a regional supermarket. Trader Joe's is it's own entity. It has a beach motif and surfboards on the walls and it reminds me of home. read more

Perfect combo of cheap and quality groceries. The employees baffle me with how friendly they are. I usually try to shop here when they first open because the parking lot can be a bit of a pain, plus, it's a relatively small-in-size grocery store, so it gets crowded easily. I walk in, after waking up less than a half hour ago, and you'd think all the employees had an IV of Prozac and six cups of coffee before they came to work. Cracks me up. read more

This place is only hindered by the fact that it's small and it is located in a shopping plaza that has atrocious parking issues. You're better off parking in a far corner and exiting to the right (if your back is turned towards the store). The staff is always friendly and very helpful. There's a nice variety of items to purchase here and the cashiers are efficient and keep the lines moving. read more

What is it about this store and the staff totally unaware of what items they have? They just seem totally uneducated about the items that they have on stock and I have to ask multiple people. This location can be a challenge. First let me tell you people in this parking lot CANNOT DRIVE. They have a general parking lot for all stores, which is always crowded and hard to navigate during prime time. And a separate parking lot specifically catered to TJ shoppers - and that parking lot is ALWAYS PACKED. I like this location because it is close to me. But almost all the time everything I need is SOLD OUT. The produce is not the freshest and very often has expiration dates nearing and I mean by a couple days. It's a smaller TJ's but when fully stocked - has about everything the other stores have. One thing I will compliment them on is that everything is well placed and easy to navigate for what you need. The staff here are very nice and friendly. Especially when assisting my mother who is deaf. I thought they were incredibly sweet to her, which very often I experience the complete opposite. read more

This locations always amazing but this morning Anna told my 2 yo about a penguin search for stickers, I come here all the time and never heard of it until today. This is my favorite Trader Joe's because of the staff. I've read about how well the corporation treats its employees; apparently, this is what happy workers look like. This particular location is a delight to me (yes, even with the parking challenges). This location's staff is helpful, kind (one visit, I'd just left the bedside of a friend who'd died; the cashier asked me how my day was going; I told him; he actually offered to buy me a little treat so that I'd have something special), and wonderfully diverse (as another reviewer noted; I absolutely agree). Some of the cashiers can be chatty, some are not; ALL are super professional and seem actually eager to check out customers. I love the kiddie section; I love their selection of bags (when you forget yours in your car's trunk; doh!); I love their funky checkout (ring the bell). The floor staff know the store and the inventory, period. Often, they will walk you to the destination of an item's location. Their flowers are gorgeous; I always buy the roses which, at a fraction of the price paid elsewhere, LAST. The Trader Joe's house brand items are incredibly tasty and economical. I love their food, which offers opportunities to sample more international or otherwise costly fare (e.g., pork buns, naan, kefir, Kobe hamburgers). I love their prices. I find myself visiting this location because of the way I feel in it: completely comfortable, assisted, unrushed, and, well, virtuous (unlike when I go to Whole Paycheck, where I love the selections, but squirm re: the CEO's politics). I love me some Trader Joe's, but for some reason, I wasn't feeling this one as much as my usual store (Rockville Pike). Maybe because the employees were too busy restocking instead of asking me if I needed help finding anything (which I clearly did). Or maybe it was because the cobb salad I bought only had two tiny pieces of chicken in it (I know they have nothing to do with the amount of chicken in my salad, but it just so happens that I relate this occurrence to this store). My first trader joe's in MD. It was a bit smaller than what I'm used to in the northeast, but still great quality and selection. Everything was organized and fairly easy to find. The staff was very helpful and kind. It felt like a little piece of home. I will shop here occasionally. read more

This is basically one of the few trader joe's I have been to and i really like it. I can see how the parking lot might be a problem at times, but I have always had little to no trouble with it. Angela M. is right about going in hungry....its always a disaster on my diet! They have tons of stuff that is instantly gratifying....like Cliff said....lots of microwaveable stuff that doesn't take long to make. Trader Joe's is not a store I think of as super healthy....they are more moderately healthy....they focus on pre packaged foods that don't have additives...that is a good step in the right direction....and everyone loves tasty additive free food. They also have organic and natural items too, including a small household section with awesome natural pop up sponges that i like ( a pack of the yellow sponges that pop up when you wet them). I think the prices here are pretty good....it seems i can always find a sale that makes me happy. Plus they often have free samples....sometimes you can get almost a little mini meal that is so cute at their little food stand at the back left of the store. Overall I think its a fun place to go shopping and especially good if you need items for a party or large groups. Check out their small cheese section which often has good choices. Overall, they could up their selection of vegetables and fruits and non food options for an overall shopping experience. read more

This is one of my favorite DC area Trader Joe's. It is normally not too crowded and the aisles are wide and easy to shop in. The parking lot is a little crazy, just be careful and watch, because no one else ever is (but that seems to be normal around here when driving) I like thier large containers of coffee beans, well priced and consistantly good quality. I always find something new to try when shopping here. read more

Very accessible to where I live (plus!)however, the parking lot is always packed ( minus!). I usually have to drive around the lot several times before I can find a space. The store is equally crowded, but thankfully the lines move fast. I prefer Whole foods to Trader Joe's, so typically the only reason I go to Traders is for these store brand organic dog treats that they carry. The treats at Traders are the only ones that my dog will eat for some reason. The few other things that I have purchased ( chocolate chip cookies and some Christmas cookies) have been really tasty and reasonably priced. read more

I love trader joe! It took me a while to catch on (I had no idea they even sold food... Slow moment!) Now I have my family and Bootcampers going here instead of Safeway and giant. An added bonus is that they don't attempt to rob you blind. Everything is priced very reasonably. I can easily stock up on my fruits, veggies and meats for the month and only spend a quarter of what is typical at a local grocery store. I love Trader Joe's. This is one of the few places where you can get quality organic products for reasonable prices. The Trader Joe's brand is very good. This store is tiny. Because it is so small, there are always employees around restocking. They don't have the best selection of fresh produce. It's quite pitiful in fact. Everything else is great. Parking can be a nightmare. I went here once on a Saturday in the afternoon. BIG MISTAKE!!!!! Parking was a disaster. I had to circle at least 3 times before finding a spot and by that time, 25 minutes had elapsed. What's worst, once I got my groceries, the lines were the longest at had ever seen at a grocery store. The lines were so long that they extended into the aisles. This makes it frustrating and hard for people to browse and shop. The customer service is very good. They always have a smile on their faces. They really need to consider expanding their square footage. When you decide to do your grocery shopping, do it afterwork when it won't be mayhem. read more

Trader Joe's as a company gets 5 stars but east coast trader Joe's just aren't the same as the ones back home, in California. The silver spring Trader Joe's is my favorite in the area (college park) but still not the best. The selection and employees were better here than in Rockville, so that's why I gave it 4 stars, in relation to east coast Trader Joe's its great. Such good prices and food, and nice to have fresh produce and fruit, unlike giants or other grocery stores in the area. read more

I love Trader Joe's. It is disappointing that this location does not sell wine though. I always pick up bottles of "3 buck Chuck" when I visit the Michigan store locations and get their Charles Shaw wines. The staff is great. The parking is a pain in the butt. Find parking in the back because the front lot is very cramped and someone is bound to get in an accident. As with any natural/organic specialty market, many things are more expensive than you would like so just do your "specialty" shopping here for items such as snacks and appetizers for a dinner party. read more

It's not Whole Foods, It's not Giant or Safeway...its perfectly unique. If you want good food for cheap this is the spot. Many organic options, great prices on everything but amazingly so for flowers, fine cheeses, sausages and paté. But probably the most amazing thing about Trader Joe's is the energy. For me the shopping experience starts at or before the entrance. I estimate that over 90% of the customers drive there and since this store dominates this strip mall, the parking lot is full most of the time with their patrons. Although they don't own the parking lot, would it it be too much for the store's management to have the stubborn mounds of treated snow moved from the so few parking spaces? I guess so, because on Feb 29, 2016 there was still residual snow from the Jan 22nd & 23rd blizzard! This store is so overrated. If you think quality food is cheap, processed, packaged, or gimmicky then shop here. I could never figure out why their Food for Life breads (Ezekiel 4:9) are stored like conventional bread and every other grocery store has them refrigerated. read more

I had assistance/was greeted by almost every employee in the store! But i spent about 30 minutes holding up Keisha's line this morning with card issues! But she was patient and super helpful she never got discouraged or seem to get frustrated! I kept apologizing because I knew I was difficult and a headache! Three starts - I would really like to give Trader Joe's a better rating. They have high quality foods at reasonable prices. The employees are friendly and helpful. Unfortunately they also have a big problem. The parking lot is way too small. This strip mall used to be a furniture store. When they converted, many of the stores became very popular - for good reason. Unfortunately you are risking damage in taking your car into the tiny lot. I have sometimes left the lot without finding a space. Too bad, otherwise this is really a good place and the other merchants on the mall are good too, but that lot ruins it. read more

Trader Joe's has fair prices, high quality products, excellent customer service. I will agree that at times, I leave the store without a few items on my list because they were out of stock. However I also leave with something new and unexpected so it's a trade off. The cashiers are fast, friendly and efficient. Customers with food allergies: beware that many products that don't contain nuts are made on the same equipment as products containing nuts (ex. julienne sliced sun-dried tomatoes in oil have a warning that they are produced on shared equipment with treenuts, milk, wheat and soy). It makes it a little challenging but at least the disclosure helps you make an informed purchase. read more

I love this store, and it was my go-to for 5 years. I've even considered driving back to SS because my area doesn't have TJ. But, the parking lot is a nightmare!!!! And the store isn't better. The shelves are well-stocked despite how crowded it is, and the lines move quickly, but some days (especially weekends) you cannot shop in some aisles because the line blocks half of it the entire length of the store. (Someone added a photo of this) Also, the chicken started to get really stinky for some reason. I reported this problem and it happened a handful more times. I had to start buying meat from Giant. Twice I had packages of dark chocolate raisins with broken seals. I'm wondering if they switched packing companies or something. The quality went down in the last two years. read more

I love Trader Joe's and all and am shocked about how cheap that is in this economy, however this location gets docked a star not for the reason most would think. Maryland TJ's don't irk me because the idea that TJ's sell booze is novel to me (NJ and CT are in the same boat as MD, NY can sell beer only with wine in a separate store). The fact that this wasn't built "downtown" is more irksome given that it's a 15ish minute schlep on the Z-series buses from the Silver Spring statin. If I had a dollar for everytime I had to play Frogger going across US 29... It seems to be that TJ's and MoCo can't seem to build a store that's truly convenient to transit; the situations with Bethesda and Rockville are worse! Otherwise, the prices are low ($1.99 for a dozen brown eggs? Milk for under $3 a gallon? Even distant cousin Aldi isn't that cheap!) , the food is good, and the interior art here has a more local flavor than any of the other TJ's I've been to. It's worth the time on the bus to go there. read more

The staff here is always amazing, they're always up beat. The food is fresh and there's better selection than most other Trader Joe's. Leaving the parking lot can be a challenge in the evening. Route 29 Northbound is terrible. Not TJ's fault, but it doesn't hurt to keep that in mind. read more

Trader Joe's is my favorite grocery store. This TJ's is pretty good, but the parking lot is indeed a hot mess. That disaster on asphalt is the reason that this isn't my favorite Trader Joe's even though it's closest to home. One tip -- you can drive around the back of the building and park on the north side of the building (right by the Trader Joe's), avoiding the main batch of crazy nut-nuts parking in the front of the shopping center. Despite the parking lot of madness, the store has super friendly service, the products and prices I love, and is a great place to get groceries! AND the cashiers are the nicest and often say "thank you" when you help bag. Aw. read more

I love Trader Joe's, but this location is the worst I have ever been to. Even though the store was spacious, it was a mess, and all the staff were crowding the isles. They didn't seem to be working effectively either, just sort of scolding each other and loudly complaining. Checkout was worse. It took 25 minutes to get through the line, and this was in the middle of the day on a Wednesday. I will stick to my local TJ's which I love. read more

I am giving this location 3 stars. I found two people who work there who didn't seem bothered or put off by just doing there job. My checker, wow, sealed the deal on why I will travel farther to another store. You must take a number and be called before entering the store. they are not accepting reusable bags, they are not charging for bag. They are disinfecting carts and handing out hand wipes for customers. they are taking this very seriously and it's great to see how much they care about their customers. read more

Having visited Trader Joe's stores in the DC Metro area (NoVA & MD), NJ, CA and WA, I have to say that my experience in this store has been subpar. First, they frequently run out of the items I come there to buy (Organic whole chickens and unsweetened soy milk). Furthermore, their produce department is not run terribly well. Two times I've gone there and have had produce that on initial inspection looked good, but spoiled within a day or two. I don't know what the problem is, since visual inspection should be enough. (Honestly, I don't have time to take samples of produce to send off to the lab to make sure it's not old or moldy.) Since this is the TJ's closest to me, I'll still come for the canned and frozen goods, but I know that I won't count on anything being in stock. Once they get their stocking and produce up to speed, they can earn their way back to a 4 or 5, which I give most TJ's locations. read more
