Ah Tradewinds. Well, it's a throwback to a simpler time lets say. And I'm being positive and nostalgic in that statement. I was only in town for the weekend for my family reunion and I ate here atleast 3 times. The food was delicious and they were open late night. The staff there were always friendly even 1 morning when me and about 20 of my family members came to have breakfast. Oh I forgot to mention they serve beer & wine also. Tradewinds is a great local spot to grab a quick bite to eat. If you are in the mood for a family style restaurant without all the glitz and glamor than this is the place to go. I like to get the fried chicken sandwich with bacon and cheese. However, last time I went they no longer have the waffle fries I usually get upgraded. The ranch for their salad is delicious. If you are in the mood for breakfast they have a huge jambalaya pancake that is stuffed with strawberries, peaches, blueberries and topped with whipped cream. read more

Tradewinds is a modest and relatively inexpensive diner serving good food. If not for the marine-themed interior and the ad-covered mug they serve their coffee in, this place is forgettable. However, their food quality has always been consistent and I don't remember ever being disappointed. Most of the items on the menu are priced below $10, and for that cost the food is definitely worth it. This place is a joke waited 15 minutes before they came and asked us what we wanted to drink then had to wait another 10 minutes before they came back to get our food order then it was another 45 minutes for them to cook our food and then they messed up on 2 of our orders and the waitress didn't even seem to care I sent my food back because she just assumed I want it cooked that and I didn't then it took them another 15 minutes to bring out my food by the time I got my food everyone else in my party had finished their food they also didn't not give us any silver Ware I had to ask 3 different people to finally get some they weren't even busy which is the sad part I could understand the wait if they would have been busy the waitress was rude and cared more about giving her granddaughter attion then taking care of us read more

Oh my God! The menu is atrociously fantastic, as I could not decide what I wanted. Usually, it's between a couple of items that even sound good at all, but here it seemed like the entire breakfast and lunch menu items were all very good. I finally settled on the house skillet, and as suspected, it was great. The waitress was friendly and willing to go the extra mile for us, and the whole place is clean and updated, with a really nice atmosphere. My wife had eggs and hash browns, and she said that was excellent also. The toast was all cooked in some kind of a special way, and it was just right. I decide to check out Tradewinds due to my mother who raves about going there. From the outside Tradewinds seems like a plain standard restaurant, with nothing that catches your eye, but when you walk in its a little nicer. The atmosphere is a cozy family style restaurant with a sea captain type flare. Interesting. Tradewinds has a lot emphasis on sandwiches, and mostly American style comfort foods when it comes to their menu selection( for non-breakfast entrees). So I have to give my mom credit she was right about the food... the food was great. I ordered their sticky spicy shrimp and the recipe for it wasn't that unique but the way the flavors came together was. Yum yum!! Also I'm a fries kinda girl and I loved Tradewinds fries. They had a nice crunchy exterior to them. I'm bummed that they were out of clam strips because I really wanted to try them sooooo bad, but there's always next time. Overall Tradewinds has great cozy food. Nice portions, good quality, great cooking methods, but my only thing I wasn't too fond of is Tradewinds doesn't use as much salt as I thought they would. But no biggie I'll just add more salt and enjoy a delicious meal. Tradewinds is definitely a winner in my book! read more

Visited this location Nov. 30, 2019 for breakfast. Arrived at 10:35 on a typical (pretty busy) Sat. morning. We were seated in less than 5 min., though, which was good because we planned to be home to watch the MI football game at noon. Unfortunately, we waited for our waitress for nearly 25 min. When I complained that we had been ready to order for at least 20 min., she replied, curtly, that she "was busy." I wonder what she was busy with as she wasn't waiting on anyone else in sight. We later observed that patrons next to us had 2 problems with their meals that had been delivered by a runner. They were almost finished eating before she showed up to ask them how they were doing and found out about the problems. When our food finally arrived, my potatoes were dripping with grease--inedible. My breakfast sandwich fell apart when I picked it up because the bottom toast was cut diagonally and the top piece was cut straight from top to bottom! There was literally no way to hold the contents in your hands without the filling falling out. I had to eat it with a knife and fork. Then, with the delay getting our check and paying, we arrived home with only 5 min. to spare, and we live about a mile away! The week before we went to a nearby competitor for breakfast, arriving at 10:30 and out the door in 35 min. Theirs is a very busy restaurant with absolutely excellent food & exceptionally good service. Should have gone back there! read more

Food is okay but pricey for what it is. Main issue is how horribly slow they are! Walk in and the hostess leaves you standing, finally get seated and the wait staff makes you sit and wait, order food and it will come right before you get ready to give up and leave. Stick to the breakfast. We live near Tradewinds & the breakfasts are all that they say, so we tried lunch & dinner. NO! So disgusting that I don't even go their for breakfast anymore. I had a roast beef Manhattan & the beef was so very old. I complained on the way out, as I was paying (only 'cause the lady asked) & I got no offer for a discount or anything, it was obvious that I only had like 2 bites (the second bite was difficult). But they didn't seem to care. I forgot what the other meal I had was, but I remember it was also bad (must have blocked it out!) I went in and ordered to go and the sandwich was disemboweled the meat and peppers were on the outside of the sandwich and I got a half portion of fries from what you get when you eat in. No pickle like you get when you eat in, and the au juis was water basically. I speak to the manager and her solution is to yank my food away from me and say I'll just refund your money. Ate here Sunday April 19th,early evening. No waiting, busy but not crowded. Had a western omelet, extra egg, traded the ham for bacon ,the tomato for mushrooms. No hassle or extra charges , which was very welcome. Came in a timely fashion, waitress was dedicated and hospitable, decent. The two of us ate a very satisfying breakfast meal for less than $16,truly a miracle in this age of corporate greed and crappy food .We did not have coffee, by the way. A couple days ago we went for dinner and were unpleasantly surprised when we were presented with new menus with substantially higher prices. We won't be coming back, I'm sorry to say. The balance of atmosphere, food quality and service was very good before. The balance has been negatively impacted by the price hikes. Unfortunately, the previous reviewers were all too correct: Service is just not good here. I went back for the same meal I had the first time and a young lady refused to write down my order requests. It was as if this was a contest as to how much she could recall without pen and paper. Well, I lost. I also tried the breakfast in a morning visit. Very competent service, but rather unfriendly. Worse, the food was as bland as can be. How do you even make tasteless butter?! A first for me. The bacon was left over from the previous day and microwaved. This server fought me when I asked for a white (bigger) cup for my coffee (which is outstanding). Ten minutes later, as soon as another customer came in, she handed him a white cup without asking! She wouldn't look at me. So, I am revising the rating to 2 stars. It's a sub-par Dennys which, every once in awhile, may surprise. But, if you basically just need a good place to sit with awesome coffee, this place would work. read more

I've been going to Tradewings since the beginning of this year. My friends and I were looking for a place where we would be able to just sit down and eat somewhere that we never tried before. Luckily we stumbled upon Tradewings. As soon as we walked in we immediately loved how the restaurant was decorated. We were offered a booth to sit in and the waitress we had was just lovely. The menu had many delicious meals for a fair price. I ordered the Panquake meal. Which consisted of 3 pancakes eggs and sausage. I think you can change the sausage for bacon. It was all so good, and the best part was that with the panquake meal, you get as many pancakes as you want. You'll be pretty full before you get anymore. I gave this restaurant all 5 stars because it really is a neat place to eat at and I plan on going there for awhile. The breakfast will always keep me there. read more

We have enjoyed going to Tradewinds for years. We enjoy their breakfast but occasionally get the fish or steak. All that abruptly ended on a chilly July evening 2017. After moving around Mishawaka looking for a quick bite and seeing some favorites busy I suggested "hey honey lets try Tradewinds". Yes she squealed with enthusiasm This writer hasent heard in weeks! Little did we know....The waitress seated us quickly which seemed like a good thing...until we realized there were only 3 other people at tables in the joint. The chuckleheads in the kitchen were standing around playing grab ass with each other and giving my wife grins like a scene from deliverance. I ordered the griiled prime rib med rare and my sweety pie ordered the "all you can eat" Pollack. Should have known when my steak and potatoe soup arrived with no steak and no potatoe we were in trouble. The waitress had 2 tables ours and the booth next to ours. Typical bad waitressing didnt refill drinks when standing next to our table. I orderd Mushrooms with no onions, but of course onions were in it. I think they were going for a carmalized onion and mushroom thing but it was just burned. My med rare prime rib was a disaster. To quote the late great Rodney Dangerfield " Wheres the chef? this is low grade dog food" I mean how do you screw up pollack? IKR? well the boys in the kitchen were on a roll tonight! A pool of grease came complimentary with every fish basket! My wife told the waitress upfront when she ordered her baked potatoe if its old please dont serve it to me, i will send it back. Potatoe came and went with brown inner flesh that resembled the skin of a sun baked skin cancer survivor. That was awful....The rice peel off they sent tasted amazingly like the burned mushroom and onions I had sent back earlier. Manager offered to make a new prime rib. I looked him in the eye and said" seriously? I couldnt eat the first one" Tradewinds needs to get their shit together. Friday night and only 3 tables? After almost twenty years, enjoyed lunch here today and discovered that the food, service and atmosphere remains the same quality after all the time in between. When I lived in the area this was a regular go-to and still remains the same for locals. The tuna melt was thick and delicious and the fries cooked to a crisp perfection. Exceptional staff, food quality and relaxed atmosphere. Not fancy, but sometimes you just want some comfort food in familiar surroundings. It's that kind of place. Nice to know that you can actually go back again and capture good memories that haven't been replaced with yet another chain theme. Keep up the good work staff. read more
