I was worried the cider would be too sweet, but they had several balanced options that were delicious. My dining partner got the Ruby & gold salad that was honestly one of the best we've had -- super fresh with an amazing house-made dressing. Cutest place ever -- total swanky speakeasy vibes! It felt kind of historical having this tucked away in Buchanan, especially with all the construction going on... gave off a fun Wild West energy. Our waitress was lovely and so attentive. I'm currently pregnant, so I really appreciated the yummy mocktails, and my husband was obsessed with the bread board. The spaghetti with white wine sauce was also phenomenal -- definitely a standout. Only tiny complaint: our Caesar salad came with the dressing on the side, which made it tricky to mix everything on the small plate. Not a dealbreaker, but worth mentioning! Service was good. It seemed they might be short staffed. Food was generally very good. However, the pork chops and beef pie were quite salty. I asked for cracked pepper but it didn't make it to the table. It might be nice to have salt/pepper mills on the table. The salads are huge and very tasty. It was a nice dinner. Guys, I have been to many restaurants in my time. My goal when going into a new town is to find a new culinary experience and have a rounded opinion on it. Many restaurants have one area that falls slightly short, whether it's the lack of salt on the entree, the texture of the dessert or the temperature of each component. While I am okay to look over little things, I still notice. And I honestly look for those things that slightly disappoint. This restaurant however, was absolute perfection. I've never been to a perfect restaurant. My experience was that. The ambiance? Perfect. With high end components while not being pretentious. They do that balance of high end to comfortable quite well. Which is a thin line to walk. The service? Incredible. Every server was so kind and attentive while not interrupting or being too much. If they even made a mistake I know they would have done everything to make us happy. The food? Where do I start???!? First off the menu was a perfect balance of options. Not too much not too little. We couldn't decide so we ordered: Th truffle fries with aioli, perfect levels of salt and truffle. The aioli clearly homemade thick and garlicky. The carrot salad, so flavorful. It took you on a journey of flavors starting with the sweet carrot going into the cumin and paprika then ending with a pleasant spice. Creative yet cohesive!! The goat cheese and spinach pastry? Flavors on every level yet I found it a simple creamy yet affective start to our meal. Not over powering. Came out very hot and fresh balanced with the cold cream sauce on the plate. The salmon and duck were just perfection. They came out fresh and crispy on the outside while holding that lovely tender interior. While the salmon was salted very nicely with the cold seaweed salad to complement. The duck had a balanced thin layer of sweet from the glaze. Do not get me started on the cheesecake. I was blown away. Perfect sweetness to caramelized but not overwhelming. The crust tasted like cookie dough in the best way. Balanced with a black coffee and red wine? Beautiful. I know this is a new restaurant upon writing this review, but I can tell the chefs, prep cooks, servers and owners all have a passion and drive to put forward an experience of perfection. First time dining in this establishment but will definitely return. The food was delicious and the service exceptional. We both had the supposed 6 oz. filet with mashed potatoes and green beans. I say supposed because I've had 6 oz. filets in the past but this one was at least twice that size. It was quite a bargain and the desserts were scrumptious. read more

TL;DR, Beautiful decor. Good ciders. Pleasant service. Lackluster food. First, the good stuff: As an art director, I love their branding, and the interior designer gets all of the gold stars. It's a very trendy, stylish establishment. Their ciders were good. We tried three of them (Bark & Bean, Cherry Pickin' Cider, and the Barrel Aged Scion) and were happy with the selection. Now, the not-so-good stuff: The food was less than stellar. I ordered the strawberry jalepeño chicken, and my wife had the Polynesian chicken sandwich. Overall, both of our entrées were under-seasoned and bland. The chicken sandwich looked nice, but lacked flavor. The "seasoned" fries were cold and hard, like they were leftover from another service. We both had trouble discerning whether they were actually seasoned. We left them on the plate, and this is something that NEVER happens. We are a "no fry left behind" couple. I strongly believe that the quality of a restaurant's fries is an indicator of the care and quality they put into the rest of their menu. These fries utterly failed. The strawberry jalapeño chicken sounded delicious, but what they brought out was a thin piece of grilled chicken about the size of a drink coaster, topped with a little spicy strawberry jam, on about two-thirds of a cup of buttered rice. No vegetables or other sides. The portion was so small, my wife laughed out loud when they brought it out. Now, I'm not a quantity over quality person. I'm not looking for Midwest farmer-sized portions. But this plate was a joke. I would have given it a pass if the flavors had been outstanding, but it was as bland as an appetizer-sized portion of chicken and rice can be. For dessert, the hot honey peach cheesecake sounded amazing, but we didn't want to risk it. We decided to go elsewhere for ice cream. So, if you want a cool, trendy place to enjoy a cider or a glass of wine with friends, it's great. Just don't expect fireworks from the kitchen. read more

Ordered their chicken strawberry walnut salad to go during one of the concerts at the commons. When we opened the boxes, there was no chicken on the salad. A handful of mixed greens some walnuts and cut up strawberries. We paid almost 30.00 for the two salads. If you want a great salad go across the street to McCoy Creek. There's enough to take home for lunch the next day. Small portions and expensive. read more

First time visiting with my Wife. We enjoyed a delicious appetizer and went to the main course. I had the filet and my Wife had the chicken. Both entrees' were made to perfection! Our Waitress was Jesse. Hands down the best Waitress/Waiter we have ever had in the past! She was very knowledgeable about the menu and paired our wine perfectly with our entree. Decided to check this place out while in town since it had so many great reviews. I only gave 3 stars because I feel there is plenty of room to improve upon. Pro: Hamburger and Mushroom Burger were very tasty. Side pasta salad was pretty good. Cons: only side options that came with the burgers or kids meals were pasta salad or fruit cocktail. What adult eats fruit cocktail? I'm talking like the sugary chopped up fruit from a can when we were kids. The pasta salad wasnt your typical pasta salad, so probably not a good idea for kids. Speaking of kids meals, the grilled cheese was not the typical american or cheddar. It was a white cheese, so my kid wouldn't eat it. My kid is annoyingly picky though. Also, I saw fries in pics when I googled the place, where are the fries? or homemade chips? Also, other menu items that I would have preferred like steak and calamari were in pics, but not on the menu :( Hoping they will be serving spirits in the future too, because only wine there now. Overall, yes we will give this place another shot and you should too, but hoping that they expand their menu and play some music in the place! It was oddly quiet. read more

Can't say enough about how incredible my first (of many to come) experience was at Thistledown & Row! The mimosa flights brought an incredible mix of classic feel with new and interesting flavors. The food, from the goat cheese appetizer to the braised beef and gnocchi entree, was certainly among the best that I've had in SW Michigan.
