Ajo Santa Fe Resort & Spa was a very pleasant experience overall. It's quite a drive into a rural…read morearea, which I personally enjoyed for the sense of tranquility and serenity. We arrived early and checked in at the front desk, where they provided us with bathrobes and towels so we could begin soaking before our official 3 p.m. check-in. That was a nice touch. We walked around the property beforehand it was quiet, peaceful, and beautifully maintained. The landscaping is lovely, and there weren't many people around, which added to the relaxing atmosphere. At the spa, we received bracelets for locker access. I had forgotten my sandals, and when we asked about slippers, the staff was very courteous and provided them. We later learned slippers are included with overnight stays, which was appreciated. We did run into a small issue with the bracelets not consistently opening doors first mine didn't work, then later my husband's didn't so we had to return a couple of times to have them reactivated. It wasn't a major issue, but it did interrupt the flow of the experience slightly. The food was delicious. We had lunch in a charming area with a window view, and the staff thoughtfully seated us so we could enjoy it. That detail didn't go unnoticed. One small observation: when we asked to take leftovers, I noticed our server packed other guests' food & placed them into bags but handed ours to us unpacked. It wasn't a big issue, but consistency in service matters, and it stood out. Another observation was that they had a toucheorming note for my husband which was his birthday along with wine and desserts. Overall, the resort is beautiful, peaceful, and relaxing. With a few small improvements, the experience could be even better.

Nice comfortable hammocks. Cons: Expensive and felt "nickled and dimed". $65 for group soaks. Spent $50 on lunch, and they require people to rent the robes for an additional $20. They also run out of lockers sometimes, so in that case, you've got to put your valuables in your car (parking is also not great/limited). I asked that my robe rental be comped because we had to store our stuff in our hot cars, and the assistant manager wouldn't budge. We also waited quite a while to be seated in the restaurant and a number of other groups were waiting as well -- even one that had reservations. Advice to management: If you run out of lockers, reduce the price of something or give a customer more. As an example, forsake the $20 robe rental fee if you are not delivering the full experience and are putting the customer out (this is not Motel 6). Make sure the restaurant is properly staffed - even in between lunch and dinner rushes. Advice to customers: Bring your own robe! Expect to drop at least $150 there, if you eat anything. Call ahead to see how busy they are -- probably best to go in the middle of the week (not Friday or the weekend). I was there on Friday at 12:15P and it was packed. No chairs were available by the pools.

Without question, the level of service at this property is beyond any we have experienced in our world travels. They were instantly responsive to every request and it was clear that the staff is fully committed to the guest experience. The rooms are incredibly unique in this building that is centuries old and uniquely decorated from the owners world travels but keeping with the Santa Fe feel. The included breakfasts were amazing with incredible service. They also have included town car service within 3 miles so almost all of the local restaurants and shopping/art galleries within distance. It was so easy to get dropped off and picked up for meals and shopping which we did many times. While certainly not an inexpensive property, I can truly say that it was worth the value for an unbelievably memorable experience.

I did not read the reviews before we booked an overnight stay as I quickly booked on Expedia. There is no self parking, Valet is required but included. The man at the front desk was pleasant and friendly. He handed us a map of the property so we could find our room. The pathways wind around and can be a little confusing so the map is helpful. There are several exterior 2 level room buildings on the property. No elevators so if you need help with luggage, the Valets can assist. But ask for a ground level room if stairs are difficult for you to climb. This hotel is charming Santa Fe Adobe style. It is not modern or sterile so if you are looking for that, this is not your place. The grounds and walking paths are beautiful with gardens and a large fountain. There is a restaurant and bar on the property. Several sitting rooms, art adorned walls, library room, and a beautiful courtyard to enjoy meals. The room was clean with a coffee bar, wardrobe closet, fireplace, desk, lounge chair, large bathroom with white linens and all the amenities you would expect at a Marriott property. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. Looked like new curtains to me. The carpet could be replaced as it was older and outdated. The hotel is conveniently located just a few minutes walk from the square and there is an art gallery across the street. Overall, I liked the hotel and staff. It could use a few upgrades but it was clean, charming and conveniently located to where you want to be to enjoy the square.

The bar itself is super cute with a cozy, inviting seating area that makes you want to linger a little longer than planned. The decor leans warm and stylish without trying too hard--perfect for slipping in, grabbing a cocktail, and giving your feet a much-needed break from walking around town. The staff were genuinely friendly and welcoming. Service leaned a little on the slower side, but the warmth and attentiveness more than made up for it. It felt relaxed, not rushed--very much in tune with the whole Santa Fe vibe. Also, a random but deserved shoutout: the downstairs bathrooms are exceptional. Clean, spacious, and surprisingly elevated for a bar stop. Great spot for cocktails, light bites, and a breather in between exploring. Honestly, it left such a good impression that I'd absolutely consider staying at the hotel next time. If you're in the area and need a cozy reset, this place is 100% worth the stop.

The main reason for my 5 stars is the details: in the check in desk (which has a beautiful flower arrangement with local flowers) we were welcomed with a warm apple cider (which I went back for seconds a couple of times during our stay ). The room keys were small & square made out of a wooden like material. Every where you look there are flowers, local art or carvings around door frames. We had breakfast twice in their restaurant and it was delicious. Cindy was our server both times and she was great!!! The staff is super friendly and gave us great suggestions of places to go. And our room was cozy and very comfortable! And the location is perfect! Walking distance to restaurants, shops, and sightseeing! I will post the pics I took, which will hopefully give you a small taste of my experience here.

The bed sits just inches from the toilet door, so unless you're unusually close with your travel companion, pack earplugs and a blindfold. Dust was caked into the corners, a dead bug was in the ripple of the vintage rug, and we were greeted by a dried booger on the bathroom door (seriously). The door frame lets light in, the floors creaked like a haunted house, and the entire layout felt like it was designed by someone who's never actually had to sleep there. There were no privacy blinds, only wooden shutters, and the artwork provided enough clutter to fill the room just in case you forgot your own luggage. Breakfast was the big show! Most of what we were served was delicious. For an extra $45 per person, you'll be given whatever the kitchen feels like making that morning... no choices, no allergy considerations, and not even a glass of water. Instead, you're handed an herbal infusion and expected to sip with gratitude while waiting 90 minutes for your dessert tart. But our group's disappointment simply must have meant we didn't understand the "magic" of the experience. In the end, Casa Culinaria is the kind of place that confuses ambiance with hospitality and is more interested in curating an image than creating a welcoming stay. If you're searching in Santa Fe for a splintering rocking chair, garden corners appropriate for Instagram, or even paying $340/night to be treated like an inconvenience... this is the winner! Anyone interested in actual hospitality should keep searching.
