CASH ONLY. Stopped with my backpacking group for breakfast halfway to Death Valley, five people ate for $50! Great price, very friendly waitress, decent coffee and clean bathrooms. Everyone was pleased with the experience

Cash only!! We were just passing through Ridgecrest for a night and were happy to find this place for breakfast. Per usual I got my bacon and eggs and I had no complaints. We sat at the counter and overall this place had a friendly, homely atmosphere. Service was on point as well. If I ever find myself in Ridgecrest I'll definitely make a point to stop in here again.

Wonderful service and food- sweet and delightful - with a diner feel! We were hoping for the diner experience and Midway Cafe was perfect.

The gentleman who took our orders was nice and very patient! The ambiance was nothing special-typical diner. The toilets could use good cleaning, too, but the bathrooms were generally okay. I had the Country Benedict, which is a sausage patty and an egg on top of a biscuit and covered with gravy, served with hash browns. The egg was over easy, and the yolk, when broken, blended deliciously with the gravy. The hash browns were crisp and fresh - very good. The biscuit was buttered, which was a pleasant surprise. They pay attention to small details like that here. Mr. P enjoyed his burger, which came with fresh onions, tomato and lettuce on a specialty bun. The burger was smashed, yet very juicy. His fries were golden brown crisp and cut thick. He liked them a lot. This was easily the best diner breakfast I've had in a long while. Looking forward to stopping in again when I'm nearby in the future. I am full and happy.

If you avoid fried food you need to know that Ale's hand breads their Seafood. This means you can order yours GRILLED! My favorites are grilled catfish and scallops with lemon pepper. Their coleslaw is delicious so I get double and skip the fries. We frequently go to the Central Coast and even there Ale's Seafood in Ridgecrest is often better! The decor is super fun and reggae music is a beach lover's choice. The servers are great here, so friendly and careful to get it your way. Ridgecrest, treat yourself more often at Ale's Crab House and your body will thank you!

We ate here and at Ale's steakhouse across town and they are very similar to me in terms of value,…read morethough they do differ. First, the good. It's nice that there is a restaurant in town with fresh fish. Our server was awesome. We were going to a tiki themed place (which you should 100% try to find if you are in town) afterwards and the server shared some cool info about it when we mentioned it. I ordered fish and chips, against my better judgement, and it was just OK. I'm a fan of beer batter that builds up more than a thin crust on the fish, and this wasn't that. On top of that, the cod was a little over cooked (a bit of a theme for the other Ale's as well). That said, the flavor profile was good and their tartar sauce was on point. I had the option for seasoned fries or steak fries and opted for the steak fries to save some sodium intake. I'd probably shorten my life slightly and get the seasoned fries next time. My wife had a salad that was very similar to the other Ale's -- lots of iceberg lettuce and overcooked chicken. We also had the clam chowder, which had a good consistency but was just a touch fishy. I still enjoyed it, though. They have a pretty good selection of beer and other drinks, as well. The decor is informal and overall I liked the place. Between the two Ale's I'd probably give a slight nod to the original, but they are very similar restaurants other than the focus on seafood here.

Rumor said that they had done some renovation to what was the old Victoria's Restaurant, but we encountered the same Paris courtyard motif that was the "trademark" of the old restaurant. We were greeted with a "sit wherever you want" by someone wearing a white t-shirt and paint spattered jeans. The menu was presented to us and it certainly was not impressive in style, with its typos and sentences that just ended incompletely (the cordon bleu apparently is "breaded with a creamy"). Our waitress, Diane, took our orders promptly, but the salad that comes with dinner took about 10 minutes to make it to our table; we were the only diners. I had the shrimp scampi, while my husband ordered the ribeye steak, medium rare. His steak came medium to medium well and the toast that came with my scampi was burned on one side and untouched on the other side. The scampi came with 5 plump shrimp, tails intact. Since it was served in a high sided dish, cutting off the tails was a challenge. The sauce on the scampi was tasty, though the lemon flavor was a surprise, hovering at the edge of being almost too much lemon. No dessert was offered, so I don't know if they have any at this time. The menu is close to what is being offered at Ale's, which is in the same parking lot, so the Fireside is going to have to work hard to make themselves special in some way. Diane handled our concerns professionally and she was the best part of our evening. It would be good to have the staff wear something to differentiate them from the customers, as we had no idea who were actually working and who were just friends sitting around. We'll be giving the Fireside another try in a couple of weeks to see if they've worked out some of the kinks. :) All in all, I think they have a HUGE battle ahead if they want to stay afloat and not lose their hotel guests to Ale's and to attract non-hotel clientele. Brainstorming a way to make them special will go a long way in achieving that goal.
