The three taco platter is great. I got one carnitas taco, one chicken taco, and one beef taco and the meat for all three really was unlike any other taco joint I've ever tried! Really, really good meat--- good texture, good taste. It's like they prepared it with love and you can taste it as an actual ingredient. The platter comes with a side of rice and frijoles charros--- and let me tell you, the beans are super hot and fresh and the only time I have them that fresh is once a year for New Year's Eve straight out of a boiling pot in my mom's kitchen. The rice was also really good, it was not bland. I hate bland rice! Everything about this platter was spot on! I'm looking forward to trying the rest of the stuff on their menu. First off, this is not a Tex-Mex place at all. Yes they have a few items, like a burger, that aren't traditional Mexican, but their plates aren't loaded with cheese or creamy sauces like Tex-Mex is. I really enjoyed the concept and vision of this place. It's a hole in the wall where the chef-owner is heavily involved. He clearly has a passion to share his food and style with the world. And despite the restaurant being in a strip mall and serving food in styrofoam bowls, the intention and quality of food of this restaurant easily rivals most Mexican restaurants in the swankiest of areas. My buddy and I split an appetizer of salsa, queso, and guac with chips. All three were fresh, well prepared, and delicious. I had the tres tacos plate with barbacoa, beef fajita, and al pastor. The al pastor was the server's suggestion and ended up being my favorite of the three. The barbacoa was really good too however the beef fajita was too dry. Best burger around! Yeah you read that right, amazing burgers at a taco restaurant. I have never had anything here that wasn't the best in the area, and there are a lot of authentic Mexican restaurants around. Today I splurged and asked for some of the barbacoa taco meat to be added to the 1/2 pound bacon cheeseburger, I then added some of the fire roasted tomatillo sauce on top of that. Tres tacos plate with carnitaa, chicken, skirt steak was excellent. The tacos really shine here, especially the hot crisped corn tortillas. Not a 5 star because of lack of ambiance. Yes it's a street taco place, so it's asking a lot. And it's not their fault. There's only so much you can do with a strip center on a busy road in Garland. Finally!!! A real authentic taco place in the Dallas area. Served on corn tortillas with onions, cilantro, and wedges of lime. I had a Barbacoa and Al Pastor taco. The Barbacoa was tender and super flavorful. Hot sauce was good and just enough heat. The Al Pastor was different than I have had before. Tender but not as good as the Barbacoa. My husband also had the same tacos but added a fajita meat one...still the Barbacoa was the best. The owner gave him some extra hot salsa that he throughly enjoyed. Awesome tacos!!! After some rock climbing with my boys today, we wanted to grab lunch together. So I Yelp'd the options around Summit Gym and I see Tranky's Tacos with a 5-star review. We love authentic tacos so we had to try it. And boy were we glad we did! Small place in a small shopping center just off of Jupiter, a little south of Miller. The young lady who took our order was very charming and very friendly. My son and I ordered the Tres Tacos plate while my other son ordered a burrito. I had two Carnitas and one Al Pastor. They were great! My wife would have found the meat a little salty, but I loved it! The pork was very tender. The tacos were actually too hot to touch when first delivered to our table. My son's burrito was very good as well. The spanish rice, with mixed veggies, was very tasty, as was the borracho beans. I found it a bit odd that that beans had diced hot dogs in them, along with they typical bacon, but they were tasty. We also ordered the chips and salsa and quac, and they were quite good too! I mistakenly ordered a bottled Pepsi (from Mexico) not realizing they had a fountain, but it was good. All in all, can't beat the price nor the quality of the foot. Just wish it was closer to where I lived so I could go a LOT more often! read more

I tried this place mainly because of the good reviews and I was also really impressed with this place. I ordered the Tres Dips Platter that came with great queso and perfect salsa, the guacamole was good too! The Fish tacos were perfectly crunchy on the outside and delicious on the inside & was perfectly dressed too. We also enjoyed the Street Tacos and a Chicken Gorditas. The best impression I got out of this place was the service. Not only was the food pretty good but the service was amazing. One guy behind the counter made sure to take care of everyone that entered the restaurant and serve each plate with the best presentation. I appreciated his hard work and for that reason I will definitely visit this place again. Good service. Good flavor. Meat is a little drier than expected. The Gorditas with carnitas were a bit too salty and Gordita shell itself was a tad dry. The chips were good with guacamole. The fish tacos were fried, but decent. The carnitas tacos were very good. Tacos were probably the best part. They use corn tortillas and double them in case they fall apart with all the food. The salsa was warm and tasty. Definitely recommend the tacos, chips, and salsa. Horchata was also tasty, but is similar to other places. They don't skimp on the food here, so if you're looking for good value, this is the place. We went on a Saturday so there wasn't much wait. Usually it's busier during the work week. We recommend you eat these right away as we did take out and drove back 20 minutes before eating. read more

Found this place on the way to my accountants office. Place is small and very clean. We went during lunch rush hour so there was about a 15 minute wait for the food. Food is fresh, chips and salsa are good. I had the chicken quesadilla. Portion was big. I only ate 1/2. It was filled with plenty of cheese. read more

I ate there yesterday and it was really good I guess I should give it 5 stars but I felt the chicharron weren't as good as some of the grocery stores that I've eaten at for instance La ranchera, or El Rancho. I definitely would give the el pastor 5 stars in The Barbacoa was good also considering I cook these dishes quite often is a compliment to the restaurant . Went to Trankys on a whim since I never really go outside of Dallas. And when you walk in the chef greets you and the staff was so nice and welcoming. I ordered the trio tacos; the meat was so tender and flavorful. You could actually tell the difference of all the choice of meat and all the sauces were very yummy. It was very authentic! First time dining at Tranky's great experience overall got the tres tacos the al pastor and Barbacoa tacos were great. Got chips and salsa with queso both were great and the chips and salsa were served warm. Also agua de jamaica was refreshing however the aguas frescos do not have free refills so make sure to take it slow.
