Checked in early and they had our room ready and let us in early. Friendly and accommodating staff from the cleaning crew to the servers and bar tenders. Nightly music at the tiki was a hit. Food was overpriced as were drinks but for the convenience of eating at the resort and on the water with the fabulous sunset...I paid the fees. Enjoyed a great weekend away at this resort and will be back. We stayed in an ocean view villa with two bedrooms. Before checking in had cocktails by the water at their Tiki Bar. Villas are two floors with full kitchen and half bathroom on the first floor. The rooms are beautifully decorated with island/shell motifs. Bed was comfortable and we found everything to be clean. We spent a lot of time on the big balcony outside the master bedroom - great to enjoy a cup of coffee or read a book. I do recommend (as others have mentioned) that the carpet on the stairs is either replaced or removed. We had dinner at the Butterfly Cafe which was very good! Husband had the Jerk Chicken and I enjoyed the tuna. We ended the night with their TDF toffee smothered cake (O. M. G!!!) I could have bathed in that toffee sauce. Restaurant is small and quaint. Wait staff was so pleasant and treated us like family. Unfortunately they do not have a breakfast option anywhere in the resort. There are two pools - a large one with complimentary floating loungers for kids and adults. Other pool is adults only and great for quiet R&R. We had a great time, just in need of small updates. Daily at the pool intrusive loud music played by guests, local kids using the pool. I watched them cross A1A twice to go home. Great view, house keeping was basically non existent. We either had to hunt them down or call front desk. Restaurant was excellent albeit a bit pricey, but we are in the keys! The tiki bar was just OK, the drinks were fair and the food not so much. We booked the water view beach house. It's a 2 story town home with a large porch. Pretty cool. The bad: coffee in room (awful) mattress (not good) pillows (ugh) The good: amazing view, excellent tiki hut for end of day sunsets, nice pool, great area for the kids to swim and snorkel. This was such a wonderful place to stay on our vacation. We were in a water view villa which was amazing with a view of the ocean and overlooking the yard and putting area. The yard have the kids room to play and run. Gorgeous property close to fun restaurants, 7 Mile Bridge and Pigeon Island. The two bedrooms and two bathrooms upstairs were small but you don't need more than that since you spend most of your time outside. Has washer and dryer, a back patio and balcony off the master. The AC works really well, kitchen has all the appliances, dishes you need. It is a beautiful property and while there are plenty of iguanas they won't really bother you unless you drop food. When we did have an issue with the sink they came to fix it within ten minutes. The food at the Tiki Bar was great with an amazing view of the water and sunset. My daughter loved the mango-strawberry smoothie. Angela and Miguel at the front desk were amazing and so helpful. All the staff really was great. The pool areas were lovely and I'm not sure how as the hotel was fully booked, but nothing was crowded. It didn't feel like it was full. Plenty of space and privacy. The only negatives: Tiki bar stops serving food at 8pm which was too early for us; the beach towels are not very good - while they dry they are really hard and not cozy at all. My experience with tranquility bay was just ok. The homes were nice , clean, but overpriced. The beach had a very distinct smell that was very off putting. They make a very valiant effort to keep the sea grass/moss cleaned up each day. Some of the beds and pillows in the home are very hard and uncomfortable to sleep on but you can make it work. I will say that management is very accommodating and will try to make your stay better should you run into any issues. I'm ok with staying here again but it probably wouldn't be my first choice. read more

We loved everything From the great staff (Jazmyn, Otis, Bethany, Steve from Tiki and our outstanding waitress Roxanne) to the beautiful scenery and comfortable bedding! The guest rooms were huge! Very spacious, so clean & cold! I loved the hand soap as well. This is honestly one of the best resorts in the Keys and definitely the best in Marathon. I just left and i cannot wait to go back. The pools were clean! The beach was easily accessible and not overly crowded. We didn't see garbage anywhere, it was all in order. A great Resort with excellent accommodations. Because of its location, it is easily accessible to Key West. The grounds are very well kept. Housekeeping does an excellent job during their daily rounds. All of the staff is both friendly and accommodating. There is free Wi-Fi for those of us who actually work during vacation. There are actually two restaurants on site. However, neither of these restaurant serve breakfast. Because the accommodations come with a full kitchen you do have the option to shop at the local grocery store to purchase items for meals. The restaurant in the main lobby is pretty expensive and you probably would not want to dine there with children. However there is a tiki bar on the beach that sells more child friendly meals. The villas are very spacious with 2 bedrooms and 2 and 1/2 baths. There is also a sleeper aofa for additional guest. The full-size kitchen is great for family travel. There are plenty of supplies in the villa. Also guest services will provide you with additional items upon request. The pool and private beach area are steps away from your villa when you step out onto the patio. This resort is definitely worth another stay foe vacation. read more

We stayed from August 20 to August 31. We checked in at 4:30pm and our room was not ready. 30 minutes later we were given a room that was already occupied, then we were given another room and unpacked and we received a call at the front door from a manager who told us we had to move, so we moved to the third room. This third room had a front door that was rotted through as well as the front door jam was all rotted through. The bathroom in the master Bedroom did not flush properly and the entire condo was full of sand and someone else's hair. We had to go to the store to buy cleaning supplies. We end up finding out that all the service staff at the hotel had walked off the job and the restaurant and bar were closed. This is especially concerning as Marathon Key is one giant speed trap run buy the sheriff and Florida highway patrol. Which means we had to go out for dinner and not be able to drink. We were stopped 5 times in 10 days. 5 days into our stay they finally opened up the bar and the bar tenders were as nasty as can possibly be! The beach was very pretty but pure ghetto. We had to fight for beach chairs and if you left to go to the bathroom some undesirable would take your chairs and throw your stuff on the sand. We were threatened several times. There was zero supervision and zero protection. We were not able to relax or have a good time. We finally stated driving 50 miles to go to Key West. This place is extremely expensive and the service cannot get any worse. The staff was hostile to us the entire time and no one showed any kindness the entire stay. We will never return! read more

We have stayed here several times before with our wonderful group of friends and have always had a fabulous stay. This time, we have been disappointed by many things. The main concern was the workers on their tractor picking up smelly seaweed from 9:00 AM to about 4:00 today on our last day here. We were looking forward to relaxing by the tiki bar all day and were greeted by the awful smells. Not only that but our first shift bartender on Jan 26th was extremely rude. Also, food isn't offered aany more except from 6-8. Really??? We loved Steve in the evening shift, however. Step it up for the money we paid to stay here, all 6 of us for 3 days! My family gathered at Tranquility Bay for a renewal of wedding vows for my Niece and her husband. We were told that it would be under a gazebo directly on the beach with chairs set up, etc. Due to the Tropical Depression, the beach had a blustering wind and intermittent downpours. We had the ceremony in a room, which my Niece reserved. It was nice, but not what was promised. I understand that the resort does not have control of the weather, but upon checkout, my niece received a bill for the gazebo rental. Nothing had been set up as it was not possible to have the ceremony on the beach. Our group spent a ton of money dining in their restaurant, which was good, but over-priced. I find it hard to understand why a lovely resort like this would be penny-pinching over this. The gazebo rental was a minimum of 2 hrs at a fee of $1000. One of the staff mentioned that anyone can use it and take advantage of that particular facility. You can't beat the location but will never recommend them because of the handling of this event. read more

Just arrived at Tranquility and unfortunately I am disappointed. I was here four years ago with my husband and 3 kids and I remember us having a great experience then. This time around it was a completely different experience. The unit felt outdated, cramped and dirty. Floors appear dark and dirty, kitchen faucets are difficult to turn on/off, rounded door knobs vs easy open/close handles, upstairs bathroom floors grout are stained, dirt/dust on the bathroom countertop, noticeable rust stains on the shower rod, ripped beach umbrellas, and missing poolside tables. We quickly unpacked and went outside to the pool and beach. I glanced around trying to find a place to sit however there were no umbrellas available (at 5pm nevertheless). Not the end of the world but it would had been nice to have an umbrella when its 95 degrees out. After 20 mins sweating in the heat sitting with no umbrella we decided to sit by the pool with our drinks. However there were no side tables to even put our drinks on so I had to hold my drink the entire time as there were visible ants on the ground. Ughhhhh. The grounds outside look pretty but Tranquility needs to seriously consider updating the interior if they want to compete. I don't think we will return. read more

Very upset with Tranquility bay after a stay in Feb 2021. It seems that they are overbooked and understaffed. We checked into a 3bedroom condo and prepaid 1450.00 for 1 night. I don't know about others but this price dictates the type of accommodations I expect. The condo was filthy, in disrepair and when I brought it up to the staff they said the following. Sorry the housekeeping staff has gone home and there is not much we can do. The filth is from recent repairs and construction and there isn't anything they can do about it. Well I luckily had some cleaning products with me and we cleaned it up bleached everything and disinfected the entire place. It's Covid for 1. There should not be food on the ground around the table, in the kitchen and hair all oven the bathrooms. We needed to use the pull out couch and it was not operational and after bending the brackets to get it to open the mattress was so gross I refused to allow anyone to sleep on it. So I went to the office they couldn't do a thing. Now here is the problem. We got there at 4pm and had to leave first thing in the AM. So I expected great accommodations for almost 1500 dollars. Really disappointed. Can't believe they did zero to try and make me happy. read more

We booked a two queen garden room via Travelocity. We arrived early and I asked if we could check in early. They said they would call when our room was ready. Reception suggested we use the facilities/grounds until the room was ready. We took a walk and visited the Tike Bar. The bartender was super friendly and accommodating toward my grumpy 6 year old by making him an extra special virgin daiquiri and me a Titos on the rocks. Check was $26 - ouch. Our room (103) was ready by noon! I was very happy to get in early and head off to lunch. The rooms are so much nicer than Hawk's Cay. We even had a nice outdoor seating area for breakfast. The grounds are beautiful, though, I'd expect they would clean the seaweed that was washed on the beaches. There was also a broken chair at the Tiki. I'd suggest removing carpets from the rooms and better lighting in the bathroom- it was beautiful mood lighting but not great for applying makeup. Housekeeping may want to do a mold check at the base of the shower. There was no closet in my room but there was a wall mounted coat rack with hangers. Love the 4 cup coffee pot. Rooms come with beach towels. Would love to be able to recycle in more keys hotels. We live nearby and I will certainly add this to one of my preferred hotels. There's so few that provide this level of service and well maintained facilities. Overall a great stay. Highly recommend. read more

While the start of our stay did not meet our expectations, management immediately took action to address our issues and accommodate us as we expected, according to the $$ that we paid for our stay. We really appreciated the customer service. Once that was addressed, our stay was exceptional! Our villa was more than comfortable, staff was incredibly helpful, and the stay was tranquil, which is what we were looking for. We tried to leave a day earlier after we saw a dead rat floating belly up on what they call their beach but they would not let us. Yes, I forgot to mention - there is no beach. It's rocks and seaweed. The "beach" is right next to a sewer that pours waste in the water. The water is covered with a film of slime. The pool is equally unpleasant. The water is dirty. I've been a traveler since I was young, and I can wholeheartedly say this was the best place I've ever stayed. My boyfriend and I were planning a trip to Key West, and after finding pretty bad hotels for way more money we decided to "settle" for Marathon. At least at the time we thought we were settling but we ended up hating Key West and loving Marathon. This town is a cute little island town, and everywhere we went we felt like we were at home including the resort. Check in was very smooth. The hold on the credit card was a little bit of a surprise since we did prepay, but we found that almost every place you travel in Florida has the same process. We rented a tropical garden king room for four days, and the price was extremely reasonable. The room was very clean and in great condition, and right outside our door was a little pool that we called our "private pool". I don't think a ton of people knew about it since two much larger pools are also at the resort, but we loved relaxing there by ourselves. Housekeeping was very nice and came everyday to give us fresh towels, take out our trash and make our bed. There were a ton of people staying here, but I never felt crowded or overwhelmed. It seemed like everyone just wanted to relax. We watched the sunset by TJ's every night. And I want to praise the staff there for a minute-nicest group of people I've ever met. Michelle was our absolute favorite, she gave us all the tips and tricks and took really good care of us. My mom was recently diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer, and has decided to live out her life without treatment so before her health deteriorates she begged my boyfriend and I to take a break from caring for her. She wanted me to go to Florida since it has always been the place she loves the most. The people here had no idea what I was going through at home, but their kindness helped tremendously. The prices at TJ's were a little high, but it honestly didn't stop us because we went there everyday. Don't be scared to try the daily drink either-the price is cheaper and they're always very good. My boyfriend said the best thing he ate the entire trip was the fish tacos from here, I took this pretty seriously since he loves food and tends to be a hard critic. We rented a jet ski one afternoon, and the guy working the rental tent was super nice and friendly as well. We had an absolute blast. The rental price was comparable to everywhere else around us. The complaints about the sea grass are a little ridiculous. The keys aren't known for their beaches and to have one at the resort was amazing. The sea grass is a part of nature, and there's nothing the resort can do to stop it. We learned that when we took the jet ski out. The sea grass goes out for miles. It's the gulfs fault..not tranquility bay. lol This place is honestly everything. We plan on making it a yearly trip. This place is truly home away from home, but in a palm trees and paradise sense. We stayed for only 3 days/ 2 nights this time around but will definitely come back again. We rented a 2 bedroom villa and it fit our family of 4 just fine with a king bed in one room and two twin beds in another. We loved the fact that there is a full kitchen also. We went to the nearby Publix to pick up food for dinner and breakfast. The living area is cozy and comfortable. They also have a back porch to relax at watching the palm trees and water views. Another plus is that this one villa had two and a half baths. No fighting over or waiting for the bathrooms. Woo Hoo! Now... to comment on other people's negative posts, if you are looking for a posh resort style living with people catering to you constantly, this may not be the place. It's a relaxing low key vibe. The furniture is cozy, clean, and the Key West styled. It's not super high end or anything. That's pretty much what Key West is all about anyway. Of course there are iguanas and lizards around the grounds but they are part of the establishment and will be found anywhere you go down here. As far as the grounds, its beautiful. Kept meticulously. Right on the water. Private beach. There are pools also although I did not utilize them. You can rent fishing poles to fish on the dock. There are also water excursions too. As far as the price goes, we don't think it's too expensive, considering if we were to stay at a hotel with 2 bedrooms, we would pay about the same or more and we wouldn't get the common living space to chill out afterwards nor the full kitchen nor the direct back porch access to the beach. read more

One of the worst values in the FL Keys. I recently did a week and half long trip to the Fl keys and stayed at Tranquility Bay for 3 days. I was quite disappointed in what the "resort" had to offer for the price. Many hotel/resorts in the area will offer guest equipment and activities such as paddle boars, fishing poles, sea kayaks at no additional cost during their stay. Tranquility Bay charges for anything extra. The swim beach was in such poor condition that no one in our party would step foot on it and I didn't see one other guest try it either. I thought for the extra cost that the amenities and appointments of the "Beach House" would be a step above what other locations in the area offer, not so. The linens were poor quality, the kitchen was sparsely stocked with equipment, and the bathrooms are tiny. They Keys can be such a great vacation spot but also expensive. I would just recommend lodging in the area that doesn't have such a feeling of corporate ownership. read more

Others have commented same. Beach area is poor. Area for swimming is blocked by weed guard and you go about waIst deep. They don't serve breakfast. Literally don't even offer it. No help with luggage even offered upon arrival. When we got to the room no toiletries, no water, no remote control were in the room. Had to ask twice for everything. Heed the bad reviews- it's all true! Overview: your unit may not be what you pay for. Pool was crowded and dirty with lizard poop on walkways. Front desk staff is extremely rude and argumentative. Details: The best thing about our stay was that we just stayed for the night. At check in the lady seemed very curt, overworked, overwhelmed and stressed. "How can I help you" in a voice that read "great- more people to deal with" Not a welcoming atmosphere or a good start to a vacation. Things got worse when a disgruntled guest called...the lady smart talked him TIL he got mad and then she hung up on his face. we were then told to wait Til 4pm check in- no one gave us any info of where we could go or area things to do in the heat of the day with a baby. By the time we got back the disgruntled guest on the phone was now a disgruntled guest in a full on screaming match with the manager and the mans wife in the lobby. I have truly never seen anything like this in my life- especially not at a "beach resort". Our "unobstructed ocean front" unit was so overgrown outside that you could barely see the ocean through the trees. (See photo) The deck had rusty nails sticking up and leaves and dead Palm rubbish everywhere (tetanus anyone?) The unit interior was clean enough for the night- I guess that's a positive. I usually don't write reviews, but had to share this. This was my families 3rd visit to Tranquility Bay. The first time, several years ago was awesome. The second time was much worse. The noise level, and over crowdedness at the main pool was over the top. I just assumed that it was a nice quiet family resort. The third visit was my last visit. The main pool was again over crowed with loud, partying, inconsiderate guests. We decided to try the beach. There was a group of young adults with a 2 foot tall boombox set up with chairs and a cooler. Not only was music blaring, but the guest were out in the water, and could care less about the other guests! I eventually walked to the front desk and was told that Bob, the manager, would be right there. He came down immediately and had them turn of the music. After 15 minutes the music was back on. Bob was called again, and they left the beach. Thanks Bob. Our next venture was to the adult pool. In the past it was adults only, not this time! Several loud adults with children playing loud music, drinking tequila, smoking who knows what, and dancing on the pool deck. This went on for Saturday and Sunday. Now I'm no prude, but at the end of the day our stay there cost close to $450./ day with food and drink. Just be forewarned that they need to step up security, and keep some of un controlled guests in check. There were other parts of the property that get 5 stars, but this was not what was expected. Family resort? Yes, but it depends on what your family is looking for! Peace and quiet? maybe not. read more

I was a little hesitant about this place because of the mixed reviews. But after staying there, now I'm thinking that when you are dealing with 4-5 star hotels, you are also dealing with people with higher standards (aka more picky people). My experience there was fantastic... very peaceful and relaxing. Everything about this place spouts tranquility. Even if you get a less-than-perfect room, walk around outside this place and look how beautiful everything around you looks. Really. Maybe the rooms are hit or miss looking at the pictures... but I don't see how anybody can go wrong in this place unless you really have some unrealistic expectations. Take a look at my pictures. This was one of the tropical garden view rooms with a king. One observation I made was also that if you aren't avid about having the ocean view, the ocean is a 3 minute walk from the garden view rooms (it's even a nice walk through the gardens to get there). The beach is nice to look at but not spectacular. Don't plan on really getting in and splashing around. The smell isn't amazing either and you will be surrounded in seaweed. I suppose the porch to sit on and look out would be nice but honestly, if you're only staying a night or two, save your money. Everything else is beautiful and very relaxing. Desk people are nice. No breakfast. On site food places close at 9 (as do most other restaurants in Marathon) Pool is nice. Microwave, fridge in the room. Nice soaps and shampoos, plenty of nice towels. Shower and tub are separate and are SUPER nice, wonderful*** for relaxing. I paid $380 something for 1 night here which honestly is a good price considering what you'll pay for a mediocre hotel. This place is wonderful and I wish I could have stayed longer. read more

We have stayed at Tranquility Bay several times and we love it. The landscaping is beautifully taken care of and we have never had any issues or have we ever seen a crowded pool area even when completely booked. Of course there might always be some inconsiderate people visiting as with anywhere. Definitely not a party resort if you want that head to Key West. The on-site restaurant is lovely as is the tiki hut. The staff is so nice. Relax and enjoy the Florida Keys. We can't wait to return. read more

Be mindful that Tranquility Bay is loose with their descriptions of where the units are located. "Beachfront houses" are 6 feet away from water view houses, which are all large stretches of what you actually see and get for thousands of dollars per night. Beachfront unit #75 has a side view into other units and is fronting a very large area of knee high wild grasses, not the beach. Resorts bend the truth, but this is borderline fraudulent. read more
