Steve and the guys at Transmission Hero are terrific! He saved me big $$! I took my 2018 Chevy Silverado there to get a transmission fluid service done because I had the "Chevy Shakes", and I wanted to see if that would help. There were codes on my code-reader that didn't make any sense, along with the "Random Misfires" code. I was fully expecting the verdict would wind up being that I'd need a new 6L80 transmission (or engine problems). But Steve's integrity came out right away. Steve said we should not do a fluid change until we first do diagnostics and see the whole picture. He's a talker... and very dogmatic, so be patient and listen to him... he definitely has tons of experience in this. He explained to me that many Chevy/GMC 5.3L V-8 engines have Active Fuel Management (AFM), and that the AFM programming in the Engine Control Module (ECM) and the over-complicated programming in the Transmission ECM (TECM) can cause the Torque Converter to lock & unlock too much; there's too much "noise". The shifting from V-8 to 4-cylinder (and back), changing speeds, braking, all cause constant Torque Converter "chatter", and I could definitely feel it. It was shakin' & shuddering! So they first ran diagnostics, and very importantly, live diagnostics while driving it so they could see the converter chattering, engine misfires, live data, etc. He told me there's likely "nothing wrong with your transmission", but we need to quiet the noise. He proposed an AFM Delete. Not the cheap little thing you get on Amazon, mind you (those don't work well), he was able to re-flash the ECM & TECM to remove the AFM programming, improve the transmission function, and also we went with new plugs, coils, and wires; BAM! No more shimmy, shimmy, cocoa-pop! NO codes on the OBD-II Scanner/Code reader! Now I have one smooth running pick'em up truck with an engine that's a full-time V-8, not dropping cylinders due to AFM. And... not sure why, but over the 2 weeks since we got this great resolution, it's getting better fuel mileage too! What I thought was going to be a very expensive problem, Transmission Hero got me out the door for a fraction of the expected costs. Thanks Steve. read more

Very dishonest unfortunately we took our vehicle there to get transmission rebuilt about two weeks after we got it back there was a vibration at 30 miles an hour took it back and Steve tried to say it was a miss fire took it to our normal mechanic and he drove it with his computer hooked up and said it wasn't a miss fire so took it back to Steve and he finally says the transmission needed to be recalibrated but when we go to pick it up he replace the plugs and wire without our permission and charged us $400 for that will be filling a complaint against there license with the state of Florida department of agriculture read more

I will preface this review by saying that I do not like giving negative reviews, but this was my honest experience with this business. Shame on me for trusting Steve H. at Mr. Transmission for "keeping his word." Essentially, that means "doing what you say you'll do." Don't let his "nice" act fool you. After having my car towed to this location a few months ago, I spoke with Steve over the phone and he told me I would need my transmission rebuilt and it would cost $2500 if I decided to have them do the repairs. Steve said, "If I did not decide to have it fixed there, it would just be $100, the cost to cover the towing." And every time I called him, he ASSURED me that it would only cost me $100 for the cost of the towing if I didn't choose to have the work done at his shop. I said, "OK, thank you." He NEVER said I would be charged a storage fee and I was assured this by Steve. At the time I brought my car in, I learned my father had just been diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer, I told Steve this and I said I would need some time to decide. He said that was fine. Each time I called, he said, "No problem. Take all the time you need." I SPECIFICALLY asked Steve if there was a storage fee because my regular mechanic told me sometimes repair shops will sometimes charge this fee without telling the customer if you leave your car with them over time. In fact, Steve told me several times that I could take as long as I needed to decide considering that my dad was dying and because he had a lot full of other customers' cars with the same transmission issues. I repeatedly asked Steve, the manager, if I was being charged for storage and I was told every single time, No. I informed him that I would remove it from the shop and have it brought back to my house if that was the case. He again said, "No, it would only cost you $100 for the towing." NOW I even question the entire diagnosis of my transmission and cost. Once I was able to do so, I called Steve to arrange to get my car out having been assured it would only be $100. When I spoke with him last, I was informed that he would not release my car until I paid $375.00 for storage fees plus $100.00 for the towing. That he was ONLY charging me for 15 days of storage at $25 a day. What storage fees? I was in disbelief. On the phone, he said he sent a certified letter... NO, SIR. There was never a certified letter sent nor did I ever sign one. Not in 15 days, not in 30 days, not ever. Never did this business try to call me on the phone once to tell me that they were going to start to charge for storage even after I called Steve personally several times just to make sure. I was always told, "Take all the time you need. It would just be the $100 to cover the towing." Apparently, this is the standard practice here as Steve told me that he had a lot full of cars with customers deciding. In our last phone conversation, I stopped him before he indignantly started to tell me, "You know what is wrong with America today?" I am college educated with strong family values. I do not expect things to be free in this world. How dare you assume that you know me? What I do expect is a business owner to be transparent about any other charges while deciding on the fate of my vehicle. When I was finally able to get a word in edgewise, I asked him, "Why are you yelling?" And then he hung up on me. I do not lie. After this whole experience, I wouldn't spend my hard earned money with Mr. Transmission. I'm sure I'll get no apologies. Just a nasty rebuttal and a twisted version of the truth I was told by Steve @ Mr. Transmission. SMH read more

Despite these unprecedented challenges in parts shortages and suppliers price gouging, Transmission Heroes managed to dig and dig and research until they found what we needed. I was getting ready to consider my 2014 Chevy Spark a total loss before I came here. I needed a rebuild with over 13 codes, and a CVT Transmission is quite a doozy of a compact car nightmare. It definitely took a while due to shipping times and parts availability, but they never gave up and they were always upfront with me about what was happening. Got stranded in a grocery store parking lot. 1997 Corvette wouldn't start, and it shifted freely. I called a bunch of places that all said it would be a few days before they could start. Called this place and they said they will start right away and basically informally troubleshooted it over the phone. Dropped it off, they got it on the lift right away. Two days later(would have been sooner if parts were readily available-not their fault), transmission cable, and exhaust gaskets were replaced and car works like a champ. Transmission issues? Look no further...we ran into this hidden gem by luck!! I have a 2013 Chevy Traverse and was told by the first shop I went to that I needed a whole rebuild for $2800.00. Good thing I like second opinions cause we spoke to Mr Steve and after the free diagnostic he gave us a great quote. Turns out we just had a broken mount. We added a trans flush and came out paying 535.00 out the door!! Customer service was stellar! This is a great place to go if your car needs maintenance or has a mechanical problem, either one. They do a good job and have competitive prices. They have serviced my 2001 Solara convertible from end to end and even have put on a new top for hundreds of dollars less than the next competitive bid. They actually did a better job than the main convertible top repair in Jacksonville. The manager is a good person, as is the owner. Mr Transmission is A Great Place To Get your Car Fixed. I've always been searching for a company in Jacksonville that I could Trust To Fix My Ford Explorer. My Tranny Went and They were very competitive when it came to pricing. Other shops wanted to charge me to look at it but said they would deduct the cost later if I had the work done there. I was uncomfortable with that and Steve Bartlett(MGR) at Mr Transmission Offered Me A FREE(no strings Attached) Diagnostic. In Addition he road tested the vehicle with me and pointed out the exact problems in detail. The Best Part of My Dealing with Mr. Transmission was the fact I had my car back in 2 Days! Completed, Done and it ran like new again!!! In addition when steve pointed out some other minor issues on my diagnostic that he could fix them as well.
