Back in April the A/C on my 2013 f-150 went out. I went to a place I usually had work done and they said between $2-3K. So I shopped around and that was about normal. Then they said their main office said no to the repairs because they would have to pull the dash to fix it. I took it to Shipman showed them the papers the other had supplied they looked at them put all the data in their computer and came up with a price several hundred lower. I had them do the work, it was ready when promised. They gave me a small retired military discount, plus they didn't need all the parts they thought and took that off the final bill. Second time coming in for auto repairs. Being new to Florida, I relied on Yelp reviews to find an honest auto mechanic. This is the place! They offer to show me broken parts and/or leaks instead of just telling me they are broken and need repair. They are upfront and clear about costs and/or potential costs. Once a determination has been made about the work needed, if it is going to take a while, I have been offered an Uber ride home instead of waiting at the shop. I have to be honest as I do with any review so others can see. I would NOT recommend this auto repair shop. And while Mike was nice it didn't translate to honesty. First off I. had my car sent to them because of a coolant issue. The first call I get they can't find any issues with the coolant or overheating issues..ok, but I have a oil leak and also my bushing connector was rigged by myself as I had had it fixed 2 other times and they break super easy and was reluctant to spend the money again, but I was reassured this would be a steel cable rather than the typical plastic connector so I relented and said ok and was quoted $1013 for the repairs. Then 2 days later another call about another part needed for the oil leak which is another $280. Here's where things get very SHADY #1 the bushing connector is the same as I previously had made out of plastic and held on with a small rubber stopper (this is not what was promised) #2 they charged me $150 labor and fees for brake flush and fluid ... at NO TIME was that mentioned nor did I give them permission (I literally just had the brakes done 1month prior for $1300 at the Brakes4Less that's literally 2 doors down). And now #3 I get my car back and now the steering wheel shakes and front end is acting up??? Which I literally just dropped $900 at Mavis across the street for tire rods, tires and alignment right after the brakes and my car was driving smoothly so now I have to take it back to them to see what was screwed up. So bottom line I was lied to, never asked and charged for services I NEVER needed or wanted and my car has to be taken somewhere else to get the shaking fixed. While I appreciate them acting kind and caring they have put me in a further predicament. And all this and the parts totaled around $300 but labor at $900. So beware going here yes they are nice talking to but to rack up charges for something I never asked for or needed and then lied about the bushing cable being a steel cable. I'm on disability and told this to Mike and he took advantage of me badly. I know I will probably never see a penny in return, but I will be filing a formal complaint with Federal Trade Commission, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, Department of Highway Safety & Motor Vehicles and the BBB since I have witnesses who can attest to every fact and lack of consent there in. read more

Excellent service. Very knowledgeable mechanics. My 2006 Toyota Tacoma was in for only one day to replace a noisy serpentine belt tensioner, idler pulleys and belt. It was necessary to remove the A/C compressor to gain access to the parts. The cost of the parts was $545.45 The Labor cost was $700 The service and cost are similar to what the Toyota dealer would provide. Outstanding staff and service! I brought my old truck-a 2004 Nissan Frontier, in to find out why it was stalling while in drive and troubleshoot the short in the dashboard. Ruth explained to me the causes in technical but simple terms I could understand-I have basic mechanical knowledge. Ruth and her staff were also very attentive to detail in showing me that the engine was overheating and scheduled a time for repairs upon my approval. This is by far the BEST automotive repair shop I have ever been to!! I've had issues with my 2009 Toyota Corolla for approximately 3 1/2 years. I moved here from Wisconsin where I spent $1000 on front brakes to fix a brake shudder, NOTHING there worked. I tried a place in Jacksonville that I found on the BBB site and spent $127 and 2 hours of my time and all that place did is clean and machine my rear brakes and they overtightened my parking brake! Thankfully I asked a co-worker if she knew an auto repair place close to our job in Orange Park. Immediately she told me about Shipman automotive and said they are the only place they take their vehicles. She said they were honest, had integrity and would explain what they find on your car. I went to meet them and explain what's been going on with my car. I made an appointment for the next day. I dropped my car off before work and they called to let me know what they found. They sent me pictures and even wanted to send an Uber so I could see for myself on my lunch hour. I didn't take them up on that and gave permission to fix it. It was as I suspected, the front rotors were shot and I needed pads. They put on medium grade pads like I agreed to. My car was done in a timely manner and done right. I picked it up after work. When I called Shipman's repair for a diagnostic report the receptionist squeezed me in. So I arrived at the shop just 20 minutes later( I live close). When I came in I greeted by the receptionist, Carolyn and the owner, Mike Shipman. They seemed as thought they were glad that I was there. So while I waited, Carolyn Brought me water a sandwich ( the guys next door had brought subs over for lunch). She even say up a little table for me to eat on! She told me about the shops humble beginnings and made me feel "at home". The wait time was an hour and a half but he squeezed me in so I can't complain. Mike explained throughly what was wrong with my car. He took off half for the diag test being that I kind of already knew what was wrong with it. He also said that the money that I paid for the diag test could be used towards labor. The customer service at this place is PHENOMENAL but the price of labor is higher compared to RPM body shop on blanding( I called there first for a quote). Can I start off by saying... High Prices, Nice People and Dishonest as this is the what comes to mind. I will quickly break it down as I have had work done by them 4 different times in the past 1 and a half years and I have closely observed and know how this business operates... About me (the person qualified to leave this review): I think this is my first time writing a review and I am not some angry customer who is writing out of emotion. I am a business man who is overall good with people and I also have a good general idea about working on cars as several individuals in my immediate family are mechanics. I decided to write this review weeks after my last experience with them. I have to leave this review because I do not want someone else to be taken advantage of the way I was :( About Their Prices and Integrity Your first experience when you walk in the door is they are clean, very friendly and offer you coffee, water and television. The owner worked at a dealership for 25 years and the wife runs the front desk and they are both really good sales people (imagine that coming from a dealership) But don't DONT BE FOOLED BY THIS as this is a way to smooth you over and gain your trust while they sit back and smile because they quote "are living the good life" which comes from making really good money off their customers. Speaking of dealership, their prices are just as much as a dealership. Their prices may seem lower than a dealership at $80.00/hr for diagnostic and general work on your vehicle, However, they charge you for a lot more hours on your vehicle than they really worked on it (I know this because I sat up there all day and watched my truck from start to finish). They use nothing but the most expensive parts that Napa sells so they make a lot of money on the labor and now the parts. On my vehicle, they wanted to charge me $465.00 to diagnose and repair a burnt wire going into the fuse box which kept my truck from running. You might say that "sometimes it takes a long time to diagnose an electrical problem" but let me say this, when I brought my truck to them, I had taken the panels off so they had direct access to the ignition switch wires, replaced the battery and alternator and I told them the starter was good. I also directed them right to the problem. I showed them where I had jumped a wire at the ignition switch because it wasn't getting power on the wire like it was supposed to. Most mechanics should have known to easily check and fix what they charged $465.00 to fix (4/hrs diag and 2 hrs/labor) WOW! I don't mind spending the money if they really had to spend that much time on my truck, but they didn't spend no where near the time and that price was mostly all labor! An honest mechanic would have charged me about half that price. About their Service They do good work but so does other mechanics. But they are still lacking what most consumers are looking for In a mechanic... HONESTY. If you are willing to spend top dollar on your vehicle and do not mind spending more than you need to then use their service. They do have the expensive machines to diagnose problems on your vehicle (so does other mechanics and dealerships) Summary They are friendly, cunning and they are out to quote "MAKE MONEY" even though they also claim to make customers happy. They do aim to make sure you FEEL happy about spending a lot of money with them. I'd say if you do not mind spend unneeded money and do not care about being lied to about the hrs worked then go to Shipman Auto Repair but if you are looking to save money when all possible but still want quality service, go elsewhere :) read more

Michael & Ruth own & run the most HONEST Auto Repair Shop I have ever had the pleasure to deal with. Mike is certified to work on any type of vehicle and we've brought in quite an array of vehicles to them with all sorts of issues. Most recently we brought our daughter's VW Jetta TDI into them for A/C repair (all the way from South Florida; 'cause it's worth the drive). The mechanic "Mark" explained the issue "in layman's terms" to me and it was repaired within hours. The air is so cold, we have to put the seat heater on. The repair costs were very reasonable and it's all GUARANTEED (thru NAPA). The shop is VERY CLEAN and the Shipman's make you feel like family.
