I come all the time with my boyfriend and we just get 4 apps to split. Id pick the apps over the entrees most days. They've never disappointed. Love the actual space too and the upstairs deck. Up several notches in my book! Business dinner with an exec from my company this past week just before the kitchen closed. He said the calamari app was outstanding. Dinner was scallops for him and panko crusted chicken cutlet for me. Absolutely perfect meals. Scallops cooked perfectly and my chicken was awesome with the mixed greens on top. I've tried both the coconut curry shrimp dish and the chicken artichoke pasta. Both would definitely recommend. The cocktails are also super fun and reasonably priced. I can't wait to be back so I can try a new drink and new food! We went at 7:30 on a Thursday night and we didn't need reservations or anything. TRATA or for what it stands for "The Restaurant At The Armory" is a great spot located just off the 490 at Culver Road. This place probably has the best layout of any restaurant/bar in the area. You walk in and are redirected to the friendly hostess section. There is a 360 degree bar for you to enjoy while waiting for a table. Seating is on all 3 floors. Restrooms are located on the first and second floor. The restrooms on the second floor is a shared male/female hallway with individual bathrooms. Plenty of parking in the lot and located very close to Cobbs Hill if you needed something to do before/after your meal. Pro tip* if you look closely most of the accent lighting is actually recycled cardboard. read more

My wife was excited to try the wagyu beef burger for her birthday, and it was delicious. My salmon was perfectly cooked with a peppery beurre blanc to dredge my potato wedges through. It could have been a perfect meal -- except for the noise. We were seated in the rear of the restaurant, where the noise level was a constant roar. I couldn't hear what my wife was saying to me without leaning really close. Out of curiosity, I downloaded a sound frequency meter and checked the levels. It was constantly above 85 decibels and spiked above 100. That's somewhere between a lawn mower and a Harley Davidson. By the end of our meal, we were exhausted. We did not order dessert. Terrible dinner. I went with a couple friends, only because they picked and it was convenient for me to stop by wegmans on my way home to pick up cat food. Honestly I think my cats a better dinner that night. I would have put up more of a fight for a different location. We ordered a bunch of apps and salad. The food, per usual, was bland. No flavor. I went to Trata 2 months ago for a date night with my boyfriend. The atmosphere is really cool, modern and contemporary. Our waitress was very friendly and provided great suggestions of menu items. I ordered the Thai Coconut Curry Shrimp. I was a little worried it may have been too spicy for my taste but it was perfect. The mixture of different spices and flavors was delicious. I then ordered the French Toast Bread Pudding for dessert. Amazing. They give you a very large portion so I took half of it home and ate it for breakfast the next day. : ) Overall, thumbs up for our first time here. read more

TRATA used to be my favorite restaurant, I have been going here for years. Unfortunately the quality has skyrocketed down. The last two times I went I had an awful experience! The first bad experience was for my 28th birthday "last June", we had about 12 people at my table, a few people got overcooked/ wrong food, a couple others didn't get their food until about 15 minutes after the first meal was served. Yesterday I went to TRATA with my wife, I ordered the Wagyu burger. When the burger came out it was made incorrectly "wrong condiments", and the French fries were way overcooked. Not a huge problem, I just sent the meal back and got another one. The second burger literally came out within two minutes of sending the one back and when it came out it was very undercooked. I tried my hardest to eat it but couldn't do it. I ended up taking it home and giving it to my dog. The only reason I'm giving two stars is because the manager was very nice and comped our check. read more

Trata was a great place for our family's Christmas Eve dinner. Its upscale enough for the adults to be happy, but still suitable for the kids. The beer and wine selection was good, and there was a nice selection of cocktails. I enjoyed the Steak Frites - the steak was cooked perfectly. The fries were a little greasy, but otherwise it was a nice meal. The kids got very good cheeseburgers, which they ate every bit of, even though they were pretty large. The only thing we weren't impressed with was the mac and cheese, which looked good but tasted bland. It could have used more cheese and a sharper flavor. Our first time here for a romantic dinner. The food and service was amazing. Meghan O was our server and she did a wonderful job from start to finish. We had the sea scallops with risotto and my partner had the twin filet. Both were cooked perfectly. We had to wait for the steaks and the immediately told us that they were removing it from our bill which they didn't have to do. So we ventured to TRATA for a second go because first impressions are never lasting ones. One experience should never define a restaurants reputation. We went today for brunch. It was a beautiful day out. However, we sat inside. We ordered a Bellini and a Bloody Mary. We don't like Bloody Mary's so I'll just let you know the Bellini was amazing! Coffee was also delicious. For food we ordered the Bacon, Brussels Sprouts, Caramelized Onions and Gruyere Omelette (I know a mouthful!) and the Skillet French Toast. Both we to die for. It's a small brunch menu so if you're looking for a generic combo breakfast diner meals I don't suggest you eat the brunch here but if you're looking to have some amazing unique breakfast items this is the place. Came to Trata for Sunday brunch ! I must admit I was not please to know they took the chicken and biscuits off the menu :((( but I ordered the veggie burger, I know. Go figure. Originally I wanted the hash but they ran out. Mildly disappointed. I wasn't super excited about anything in particular on the menu. I feel they could expand their horizons ! My friend ordered the chicken and waffles, it was good ! My veggie burger was also good if your into that sort of thing. One thing I LOVED was the home fries. Very crispy, very tasty. If I ordered just a bowl of those I would be happy !! Maybe next time I'll try the Benedict ! It was ok! It didn't blow me away, but it didn't completely disappoint either. We went in for a lite meal on a cold and dismal Sunday night. I am so glad we returned because the last time I went, before the pandemic, the food and service was not so great. The new layout of the bar area is spectacular. I liked the convivial atmosphere of the open groupings of tables. We were originally seated upstairs, at an odd location, but I insisted that we return downstairs and soak up the warmth of the surprising crowd. The menu was robust and well priced. We settled on the wings and a bowl of tomato soup, which were great choices. Perfect in size and just terrific tasting, different enough from standard bar fare to be remarkable. But a special shout-out goes to our server/bartender, Sara, who was not only pleasant but managed to work the room with aplomb, even though she was the only one assigned to the area. I am happy we returned to strata and would highly recommend the new, improved bar area for any upcoming meet-up! read more

They are getting 3 stars instead of 2 because our waitress was outstanding (wish i remembered her name) and they have an outside deck on the roof which is great in warm weather. We only came back here because I had a gift card. We have been a couple other times before and have been less than impressed. The drinks are highly overpriced. For example, a beer cocktail with peach puree and lindemans Peach beer is $9.50. It comes in a 10 ounce glass and has 2.5% alcohol in it. That is ridiculous. Our waitress said the smaller drinks have a higher alcohol content and in this case it is not true. A Michelob Ultra Light is $5 so you can guess what the other beer prices are. They took the only thing I considered eating was taken off the menu which was the gnocchi. I broadened my horizons today and had the duck quesadilla and Fried Chicken and biscuits. I hate to admit it but these were both very good. The Fried Chicken was right on point and the quesadilla came with a light yogurt sauce which mixed well with the cranberry inside. The chicken quesadilla was $12 and the Fried Chicken was 18$. We also ordered a side of the mac and cheese which was $6.50, and worth every penny. This is by far the best mac and cheese on the planet. I might have been impressed with this place had I not been here a couple times before and had bad experiences. We've never been served dinner bread and i know they have it because we've seen other tables get it, my boyfriend's Thai coconut shrimp dish tasted exactly like plastic and had to be sent back, the lettuce wraps are laughable, our other servers have been less than enthusiastic to be there and there is NO happy hour. Oh! My biggest gripe is that they make a peppadew ranch dressing in house, but they wouldn't let me have a side regular Ranch. Obviously if they make it in-house they have Ranch, but our waitress told us that management had to say no to people who want regular Ranch. Excuse me? What's the big deal? That in itself will make me not come here. Some people can't eat peppers like myself, and the few and far between in between who ask for it why wouldn't you make them happy? TRATA is the restaurant/bar space that I have been waiting for in Rochester. Living around the corner from the Culver Road Armory the last year and a half has gone by in a few phases. There was excitement that someone was going to reclaim such an interesting space, but that quickly changed to vague anticipation with construction that never seemed to make progress. A business opened but what we were hoping for was a restaurant that would make a mark on the Rochester food scene and get people excited again. Finally, I noticed a new sign, cars outside and lights on and I took a walk over on our first opportunity. The styling of TRATA is simply stunning. The entrance is nicely modern and as you walk into the bar area the whole space just expands beyond anything I have seen in the Rochester area. Beautiful, giant Edison light bulbs hover high over the bar which created a great effect at night time. I was impressed by the wide variety of seating areas on the three floors that ranged from couches to small intimate tables and large tables and private areas for parties. TRATA captures some of the spirit of reclaiming with exposed brick walls providing that worn city loft feel. Large, stylized cardboard fixtures surround the lighting in most spaces which we absolutely loved. Take a look at the pictures for some visual cues, but you really have to come in and experience it to know what I mean. Now for the food and drinks. As a non drinker, the drink menu was still impressive to my eyes. They have somewhere around 30 beers on tap and you can see all the keg set up in a room near the bar which I thought was a nice touch. Transparency is always a good thing in my book. My girlfriend ordered a dark mojito (one of their menu drinks) and I got a Rohrbach root beer on tap. The mojito was sweet but not overpowering and everything seemed well balanced. My root beer was smooth and spicy and easily one of the best I've had in a long time. Looking over the menu, I would describe it as modern American with a bent towards appetizers and burgers. There are also a few larger dishes offered (short ribs, a couple of steaks, fish, pasta, etc) that we did not get into this visit but will try in the future. We were informed by the waitress that the menu wasn't posted online yet and was being altered as input came in from the early customers. Keep that in mind with the menu images I posted as things may be changed. Some tasty focaccia bread topped with herbs came out just prior to our first order arriving and we quickly polished it off despite the fact that it was room temperature. We started off our meal with the grouper cheek fish and chips accompanied with fingering fries and house made tartar sauce. For the price we paid, I would say that it was a little short on the actual fish but the pieces we got were amazingly tender and delicious. While the beer batter on the fish was crisp and hit the right "fish and chips" flavors you would expect, it was a touch on the greasy side for my tastes. The fingerling fries were tender with a slight crisp to them and well seasoned with a cajun like seasoned salt. The accompanying tartar sauce had plenty of lemon and was the standout sauce we had all evening. We moved on to the buttermilk brined chicken fingers with house made honey mustard and we requested the bleu cheese and wing sauces from the wings to try them out as well. The white meat chicken strips were tender thanks to the buttermilk brine and the crust was darkly fried and quite crispy. Unfortunately they were unseasoned beyond the buttermilk brine which left them essentially unsalted. With some added salt they were pretty solid chicken fingers. The honey mustard and the wing sauces were overly sweet for my tastes and the bleu cheese was palatable but not a standout like the tartar sauce. We finished our meal off by trying the mushroom burger on an everything bun off of their Burger Bar section of the menu. The burger came out looking fantastic on a wooden plank (see picture) and was cooked perfectly to medium rare as requested. There was an impressive crust on the brisket and chuck beef blend and the meat was deliciously beefy. Unlike our previous dishes, the burger was over salted which for a salt fiend like myself is difficult to do. Even so, the combination with the mushrooms, swiss and light mayo was really tasty. The waitress explained that they are still working through the seasoning and the menu so I hope to see more consistent seasoning and refined dishes in the future. The onion in the rings were cooked well but suffered from some of the same batter issues as the fish from our earlier dish. TRATA combines style and substance into a package with serious potential both food wise and as a nighttime hot spot. TRATA is well, TRATA. I think the most appealing thing about it is the rooftop and the attentive bartenders. The food is ok and I can't even describe it as glorified bar food. Every time I come here is mostly for drinks. But it is what it is, a good place for groups and celebrations. From the food menu I do enjoy their wings as long as they are super crispy. Other than that, I don't care for them if they aren't crispy though many people could care less if they are. They only serve them one way, tangy, BBQ-ey and sauc-ey. Their fish tacos are sub par and forgettable. I enjoy fish tacos, but not all fish tacos are great. Like even bad pizza is good pizza? No...just no on both accounts. I've always wanted to try their brunch so I will be updating my review when I do. I also would like to try their Ramen whenever it is on special. Restoration Hardware meets West Elm at this artsy, lofted industrial style restaurant in the Culver Rd Armory. As everyone has described, the interior and layout are stunning. I first went to Trata during opening week and was blown away. The mammoth bar with a dazzling array of hand-crafted cocktails and endless tap lines are enough to support a steady crowd without the food. I'd only been there for drinks until recently. We were seated on the second floor, which wasnt bad, but I felt that the lighting was off - it could have been dimmer. It would have been a nice touch to have a candle or two on the table. Something about the dining area felt oddly sterile compared to the expansive trendy ambiance downstairs. Our waitress was incredibly good natured and polite. She also knew quite a lot about the menu. We settled on the pork belly buns, the goat cheese salad and the short rib entree. The pork belly steamed buns were good, not great. Han noodle's are certainly better, but these are not a bad substitute. The goat cheese salad was delicious and a perfect interlude: breaded and flash fried goat cheese with a mix of greens and raspberry vinaigrette dressing. The short rib entree was a generous portion sitting atop a crisp potato pancake. The meat itself was tender and flavorful, but did have that ever-so-slightly dry touch that comes with leaving meat in the slow cooker for too long. The fat on the rib kept most of the moisture locked in, but you could sense that it probably had been overlooked (if it's possible for something that has been slow cooked for hours to be overcooked). So the meal itself was slightly above average. The ambiance was great and makes this the perfect place for out-of-town visitors. The bar has something for everyone. Trata is really more of a 3.5, but I'm rounding up because it's unique and sort of a destination place that will sparkle in the summer when the patio and outdoor bar are in full swing. One warning about the bar crowd however: older, likely botoxed, overdone, but essentially harmless. Tread with caution and humility. read more

TRATA is my go-to for a happy hour drink or to hang on the rooftop. Things I love: - Cava rosé - Duck quesadillas - Lettuce wraps - Artichoke red pepper dip - Brussels sprouts salad ... Pretty much the small plates are a win. You can't go wrong there. But the thing that keeps me from coming more often is the inconsistency with the kitchen, primarily for the main entrees. It's great one time, then I make a return visit for the same thing and the meal is totally off. It's happened a few times now so I stick with what I know is good and return for that. The space is beautiful and I love having it in my neighborhood. So for me, TRATA is an appetizer and happy hour drink kind of place. Love the staff and everyone is awesome behind the bars! Very impressive addition to the Rochester dining scene. The layout of this place is amazing as others have mentioned. Very spacious, everything looks brand new and the design, light fixtures even the salt and pepper shakers are all very hip. Definitely gives the feel of a restaurant in a much larger city. Trata gets 5 stars for service. All the employees here seem to have smiles on their faces (whether they are fake or not who knows?) and our server was attentive but not hovering. Went with the tempura green beans as an appetizer and they were a great choice, accompanied by some tasty dipping sauce. The steak special I had as an entree was pretty good as well, not great as, I did wish I had some steak sauce to accompany it but was never offered any. The bed of smashed potatoes and brussel sprouts the steak was sitting on seemed to outshine the steak actually. Trata seems to do brussel sprouts well I hear. I had never been to the Armory so if you havent, parking is easy. Reservations would prob be a good idea on thursday- sunday nights. You COULD get away with wearing a decent t shirt and shorts here guys, but I felt totally underdressed and I was in jeans and a button down short sleeve shirt. Don't let the moderate prices of the food fool you, this place falls under the category of high end dining in rochester so I will dress the occasion next time! read more

I've been to TRATA twice now. Located next to the main street armory it has plenty of parking available. It is sort of a trendy place and you have to look nice otherwise you'll be the odd one out. There is usually a short wait for a table if you haven't reserved in advance. You walk in to the main floor bar area which is usually full of people and energy. They have three floors of seating/lounging/dining area and a roof top bar as well which is pretty sexy. The decor is modern and impressive. You feel celebrated. The service has been decent. Nothing stupendous and nothing annoying. The food is hit or miss. I say that because I ordered the fried chicken entree once and it had so much salt in it I was sure I was going to end up in the ED with hypertensive emergency. And I love salt! The fish taco appetizers are really good with the perfect blend of flavors. Served with a side of mini hot sauce bottles which are cute. I had the Cajun burger which was done like I wanted it and had adequate flavor and spice. Could have used a tad bit more though. Served with crisp nicely done french fries. I didn't need extra sauce/ketchup with my burger which is a good indicator of a decent burger. Get the sticky bun with praline ice cream for desert. It was really good. I might come back just for that if I feel like desert some day. Sticky gooey sugary deliciousness. None of my friends raved about their food but nobody disliked what they ordered and everyone enjoyed. I don't drink but my friends enjoyed all the drinks and cocktails they ordered. The rooftop bar is a big attraction during the summer but it was closed the two times I went due to the weather. Unisex restrooms with separate enclosures for voiding the small/big one. Neat. One thing I love about TRATA is the feeling of being in a trendy upscale restaurant/bar with decent food and very reasonable prices. It won't break the bank. i had an awesome burger named caprese burger. it had pesto, mozzarella, tomato, and soaked in guiness balesmic dressing. very juicy and tasty and big. my mouth was watering. the fries were quite salty, but good. i also had a martini called lemon strawberry drop or something. very tasty as well and didn't have a that strong taste, but was strong i'm sure. i like my fruity sweet drinks. ive been here twice before and just had the duck quesadilla and other time just drinks at the bar. the bar is downstairs then you go up where there are 2 different levels for eating. the set up is unique and i like that. it does get loud on busy nights however which is distracting. i also wish there was more on the menu. there is quite a few things, but i was picky that night i got the burger haha. i'd like to try the other stuff though. i would come here again for drinks and dinner. read more

I came here previously and wrote a review for a night out with some friends having drinks. I finally got back here to eat and I was not disappointed. My expecting coworker had a dream about one of their burgers and couldn't get it out of her mind so we decided a lunch date wouldn't hurt. I ordered what she was dreaming about and I totally get it. My co-worker made 12:15 lunch reservations for 3 and when we got there we were seated just about right away. I loved the options for the seating arrangement as I hate booths and a coworker loves them, we compromised and we were able to get a table with a booth on one side and chairs on the other side. Any restaurant that allows for that to happen is good in my book. I was the only one who hadn't been to TRATA for a meal before so the other 2 knew what they wanted and I looked online ahead of time and had it narrowed down. Since we pretty much knew what we wanted to ordered almost right away. I ordered the Caprse burger without the tomato - which is what the dream was about. It was certainly dream worthy. There ratio to pesto, mozzarella and burger was just phenomenal. Nothing over powered a different ingredient and you got to have all of those perfect tastes in your mouth all at once. It was scrumptious for certain. I also got French fries with the burger and they were amazing. They were cooked to perfection and had the perfect amount of salt on them. I could dream about the fries or the burger alone but to add them together is just beyond dream worthy. Our waitress was great, super peppy but not annoying and checked on us just the right amount of times to ensure our needs were met. I also felt the prices were good for the meal, service atmosphere. I just wish I didn't have to pay $2.00 to substitute chips for fries. The only negative is possibly one of the saddest for me. I love pickles, everyone knows I love pickles. I can eat an entire jar in a sitting and then drink the pickle juice I love pickles so much - but I did not care for their pickles. They were too sweet for me. I ate them anyway just because I love pickles but they were disappointing since everything else was soooo amazing. This time around: Service: was really good and because I am lame and didn't make reservations the wait was only 30 min not too shabby on a friday. Service was overall timely and great except for the waitress just bringing our check without asking us if we wanted dessert basically trying to flip tables fast. She also seemed a little annoyed when I asked for another drink. I wasn't a fan of the dipping sauce. My girlfriend got a turkey burger which she said was fantastic. So overall wasn't a bad experience. I Liked the food enough to return. I visited TRATA today for brunch with friends. The initial experience with the hostess stand was a little off-putting, I felt like I was bothering the hostess when I was trying to give her the details of the reservation. I was pleasantly surprised that as soon as the whole party was there, we were seated immediately since it was super busy. Our waitress took quite a while to come over with water and to get our drinks but was otherwise pleasant (more on that later). The Bellini and Booze & Buzz were huge drink hits at our table. We ordered Eggs Benedict, Huevos Rancheros, and a day-specific skillet special. The lemon-sriracha hollandaise on the Eggs Benedict was delightful. The Huevos Rancheros were also very good but I could've done with a little less slaw and a little more egg. It came with a side of chips and an adorable 1/8 oz bottle of Tobasco sauce. At some point during the meal, music started playing really loudly. Before, the noise had been steady restaurant noise, lots of conversation. After the music came on, you had to shout to be heard, and everyone was shouting. That was not a pleasant way to end the experience. The food was worth going back but the service fell a little flat. From the hostesses who seemed annoyed to the server who was non-existent, that's the only thing that holds me back from giving this place 5 stars. Darn. Went back after a few years, as I was treating my family (all adults) to dinner: their choice of restaurant. I had the Nashville Crispy Chicken, which was so dried out and tough, that I could barely cut through it with a knife (it was not possible to tear off a piece from the "sandwich" with my teeth). Really bad; for a diner. I also had the Chipotle Honey Brussel Sprouts, which was a bowl of bland, overcooked mush. Gross. Again, this will never be my choice of restaurant, but if others in my party choose it, I'll go. In the future, if I have to eat here, I'll just order a small salad. The drinks and wait staff were fine; they got us a booth so the sound level was tolerable. read more

Stopped in here for drinks as part of a girl's night out with a few friends. The modern building and bright lights can be seen at night when driving on 490. Must get a lot of new customers that way! I went to check out the space and try the beer cocktails. Like I said, it's very modern. It also caters to the upper class of Roc. First greeting is from the door man, then a quick hello from the host behind her tall, sleek desk, and right after that by a woman in the coat check. Finally, we made it to the bar. A large, square bar has patrons lining each side and bartenders bustling in the middle. The room is lined with windows and very open. Beautiful lighting hangs overhead. Go in further to be seated for dinner. We managed to snag (ok, steal) some seats at the bar. Some drinks were sitting at empty seats and it turns out those people were standing and mingling nearby. They quickly offered the empty stools to us. We tasted two beer cocktails, the lambic bellini with lindeman's peche, peach purée and raspberry ($5.50) and the late summer shandy with sly fox pikeland pils, elderflower liquor and fresh lemon ($7.50). The first was a good mix of sour and sweet, perfect if you like Belgium beers (also a good choice for non-beer drinkers like my friend) and the latter a nice floral twist on a classic pils. Good value and good service. Crowd is a little too hoity-toity for my liking. I might return for more of those beer cocktails though. read more

Went for dinner with my husband. We don't normally pick at things but this was ridiculous.My husband ordered a burger medium rare , it came out well done. I had the Nashville crispy chicken sandwich and the sauce was too thick and goopy. The pickles weren't slices but chunks which was really weird and my fries were cold. Our drinks were so weak. Our server was non existent. After waiting an hour for the dessert we never received, after flagging our server several times. And having the booth next to us literally fall apart to the point people were trying to pound it back together, the ambiance was crap. It's obvious that we won't be back. read more
