When Traverso came to my house to remove several trees from my hillside they had to lower my television cable. I only noticed after they had left that they had forgotten to unwrap some caution tape from the cable they had attached when it was lowered. The speed with which they came back to fix this simple oversight just proved what a great company they are!! The whole experience was great from the minute John came by to check out the health of our trees and give us an estimate for the removal of some of them to when they stopped by to remove the caution tape. We have lived in our home for 30 years, and our trees all needed serious attention. Raphael came out for the bid (we received 3 bids; Traverso was the median priced bid) and we were impressed with his knowledge and suggestions. It took 2 days for Traverso to finish trimming/removing the trees on our original contract (and we only have 1/4 acre!) They also thinned 4 of our large and overgrown redwood trees, beautifully. We had a dead tree removed and the lower branches of a large redwood tree removed to raise the lower canopy and the ends of some branches trimmed away from our home. Traverso Tree Service came highly recommended. But I had no idea they would be this good . I have lived in my home for 29 years and have had multiple companies work on my trees and I have never seen the service and competence I received from this company. The workers were competent, courteous, and totally dedicated. They did the most beautiful job on my 60 foot pine which involved them cutting branches that fell into 3 neighbors gardens. They quickly and competently removed the branches and all the accompanying debris. They removed several other trees with the same kind of competence. They pruned some other trees and I celebrated the next morning when I saw all the beautiful light streaming into my garden. I will never use another company but this one. From the fair and accurate estimate provided by Scott Foster to the completed pruning of the sycamore and japanese maple on my property I can say that I'm THRILLED with the level of professionalism and expertise exhibited by Beto and Arnulfo the arborists who were assigned to complete the work. Branches were methodically selected for removal leaving beautifully graceful and well balanced trees. A long pole saw was the tool utilized for pruning and only rarely was a chain saw used to remove the larger dead limbs. The crew visited our place for a dead birch tree removal including the stump. I was really impressed by how professional and efficient the crew was. They came around noon and just got started right away and in less than 2 hours they finished their amazing work and cleaned our front yard carefully. We had a team of 3 and they were very nice and generously answered all the questions I had including what to do next after the stump is removed. With all the great work they do, their quote was actually pretty good. It did take a little while to schedule the visit (over 1 months for my case and I understand part of it is due to the recent fire), but, hey, if it's not an emergency, definitely worth the wait! Many years ago we used Traverso on the trees we had then. Recently we needed a tree trimmed in our front yard because there were limbs growing over our house and into the neighbor's yard. We also wanted the overgrowth from a neighbor's privet trees trimmed back because we were tired of pulling up small privet trees every year. The estimator came out as scheduled and gave us what I believe was a good price. He also offered valuable suggestions about what would look good and prevented us from making a mistake in that area. The worse hack job ever! My job was quite modest but it almost ended up in disaster. Three Spanish speakers showed up without any supervisor and without much of a clue as to what they needed to do. An ornamental weeping cherry tree was barely saved thanks to my intervention. I had to give precise instructions to keep it from being destroyed. As to being able to decently shape a tree, they had absolutely no clue. This business is somewhat inexpensive, but I won't let them come near my trees again. read more

My neighbor had this company prune their trees a few days ago. To my surprise, I found one of their workers standing on top of my garage roof to help lower a branch that was being cut at my neighbor's. You'd think that they could come knock on your door (and ask for permission) before trespassing onto your property. They didn't. read more

We had them remove small flowering almond that was dying, remove deadwood from and "lift" the crown of a large silver maple, and thin and shape a Japanese maple and olive tree, and clean up two liquidambars. They did a great gob on everything -- Both the maples look like new trees, but retain their natural form. Removal of the almond was done neatly and the stump was ground down to well below the surface. Cleanup was fine, and you wouldn't know they had been here. Best of all, they were the cheapest of the 3 bids I received. I would definitely call them the next time I need a tree service. read more

My husband and I recently bought a home in Berkeley that has a fairly wide variety of trees on the property. Unfortunately, the previous owners did not make tree care a priority and, thus, many of the trees were dead or dying, had been topped, or never pruned at all. We felt that our property had so much potential but were overwhelmed by the trees in various stages of health. Steve came out and spent nearly an hour with my husband and me (free of charge!) educating us on the types of trees we had. At a glance, he could give us a pruning history of the tree and tell us why certain fruit trees were not producing fruit. He told us which trees were worth preserving and which were not. And he even gave us tips on how to prune trees ourselves, should we choose to be so daring! And most practically, he took into consideration our budget and helped us prioritize certain tree services over others. In the end, we had many ugly, unhealthy trees and shrubs removed, and had a few large trees (including our persimmon tree) beautifully pruned. My toddler son and I watched much of the work being done and I was quite impressed with the efficiency and professionalism of the crew. Not only did they arrive promptly and do the work within the estimated amount of time, but the cleanup was fantastic. At last, light is streaming through the trees into our backyard and we have a wonderful array of trees that are not only healthier, but prettier as well. Efficient; on time; hard working; organized We had several 30 yr old redwoods removed, a huge oak trimmed, and trimming done on several other redwoods. My husband wanted to do it himself to save money but I wanted to hire out to save my husband. I mean really, hiring Traverso was less than the deductible on our health insurance and I have a feeling that it got done much more quickly.They were less expensive than the other bid and did not miss a beat whether it be showing up for the bid or arriving on the day of the job. Every man on the job had a specific duty and the operation was like a well oiled machine. I was shocked that they could get so much done in one day. And they take all the remnants away. My husband has been using the chain saw on some pine limbs but they are not fitting very easily into the green compost bin for pick up. After all the reviews and a decent quote, I expected a great service. They did a terrible job, hacked at trees. Not at all what the quote said to do. Now I have really awful looking trees. I have them coming out to review the work done. Let's hope they can remedy it a bit. I'm not sure I understand how this can happen. I honestly could have done a much better job myself but did not have the equipment or agility to climb trees. I see someone else had same experience in 2012. Sounds like exactly what happened to me. 3 guys who hadn't got a clue and I had to intervene in the end to at least get the job done and prevent it from becoming more of a disaster. I expected someone who would supervise and make precise cuts not stab at branches without any thought as to shaping the trees. Leave jagged branches sticking up. Traverso was recommended on Angie's List and we found them to be highly professional and competent. We needed a big spruce tree removed to make way for some expansion of our foundation. I was concerned about its proximity to other large trees and the fact that it overhung our house and was wedged between us and the neighbor's garage. If that wasn't enough to worry about, the steep, narrow stairs to the back were the only source of access. We weren't able to get home in time for the start of the job and by the time we arrived, it was complete. No mess, no damage, no problem. They were gone and it was like the tree had never been there. We got a call the next day asking if we were satisfied but he bill didn't arrive for three weeks. These guys are wonderful. read more

I live in a subdivision called Muir Oaks, Every year for at least 14 years our Home owners association has called Traverso Tree Service to hang (16) 50' strings of Christmas lights from the top of our beautiful Deodara Cedar tree sitting on the entrance island to our community. Every year Steve has arrived on time, climbs up to the top and throws down those lights tied to a bean bag. He has that tree full of lights in about an hour. In January he comes again and takes down the lights. The price Traverso charges for this service is very reasonable.
