We were absolutely thrilled with the work David and his diligent crew did in trimming our Coast Live Oaks. He was recommended to us by another highly respected consulting arborist and both David and his diligent crew exceeded our expectations. On our first visit he surveyed our trees and property so he could offer an accurate quote for the work. We were really impressed that beyond merely pulling the required permits, he also set up a meeting with the City of Glendale Arborist so that she could envision and understand some of the proposed cuts for weight reduction/liability mitigation he was hoping to make. (Side note: I was also impressed that she came out for the meeting on her own time at no expense to us--I didn't realize that was in her job purview & she was lovely.) Once the permitting was good to go, he scheduled us. Because of our location and the challenges of our street, it was not an easy job and took two days as proposed. David and his crew adhered to both the proposed quote and the proposed time estimate, both of which are always appreciated. David is personable, knowledgeable and truly cares about his craft and doing things the right way--he was dedicated to doing the best for our trees, but also concerned for the safety of his crew, which is admirable. His crew proved exceptionally hard working and were also really friendly. As Tree Preservation also provides landscaping and landscape maintenance, we are already planning to have David out a again to attend to sculpting/pruning our garden. David and his crews are excellent. I've had them completed redo my irrigation front and backyard as well as trimming my trees on 3-4 occasions. The last time was this past Wednesday! I don't have the before pictures but the after pics show the excellent work that they do! I have 13 trees of varying size, age and condition on my property and some of the larger ones: Coastal Live Oak, Eucalyptus, Norfolk Pines, Avocado and Orange, desperately needed trimming. But I didn't want just anyone to do the work, it had to be a certified arborist with the proper license, insurances and experience with this type of work. I had already called three other companies, one who didn't bother to call back, one who made an appointment with me but never showed up (I had to take time off work to be at the appointment, so that was very rude), and one who gave me an estimate for the work but never called back to schedule the work! I even asked the owner of a garden supply store for recommendations, but none of those panned out either. Finally, one arborist who I called (who had retired) referred me to David Sims, owner of Tree Preservation, Inc. We set up an appointment for him to come out and estimate the work and (miracle of miracles), he showed up on time and gave me a very reasonable price for the work. Not only did his team show up on time, they worked efficiently, wasting no time setting up their ropes and ladders. They worked diligently for three hours to trim, cut, prune and shape all 7 trees. They had a large truck with a chipper to so there was no wood waste left on the property. They even blew off the driveway after they had finished hauling off all the branches and wood scraps, and left everything neat and clean. David came to view the property and assess our needs before we scheduled any work. Our first need was sprinkler repair, which David's crew provided with great care to detail and a commitment to solving the issue. Several months later we needed a large tree removed. I had such a great experience with David and his crew. David came out and gave the estimate himself. He was very nice and knowledgeable and actually told me I didn't need to trim one of the trees I considered having pruned. He sent the quote the same day and they did the work the following week. Jose and Arnulfo did the work and David came by at one point to check in and make sure everything was going well. Jose was really nice and answered a bunch of my questions. They trimmed three trees and were meticulous and careful. David was was great to work with, and was involved not just at the start of the work but toward the end as well. The crew even cleared the roof/gutters as part of the clean up! I had a 30' Ficus tree 6' from the front of my house. The tree had pulled up the driveway by 14". Though I hate to kill a tree this tree was too dangerous and destructive to keep. With half of the canopy overhanging my 80 year old tile roof the removal was going to be complex. In 2013 Tree Preservation removed the tree in the most careful and professional manner I'd ever witnessed. I was biting my nails thru the entire process even though it was clear they were skilled beyond my expectations. They removed the tree (to the stump) and chipped all of the branches. Light now pours into my courtyard and the ominous and destructive root system (and tree) is gone. Very well priced along with skill wins every time. read more

When I called David to ask him about removing a large eucalyptus tree that had fallen against the house and broken a window, he -- despite being booked for several weeks to come -- agreed to make time the next day to evaluate the situation. I've used this company on a couple of big jobs, including a 90 foot Aleppo pine, where I needed to have the tree made safer in high winds and rain, since it's close to my house. David Sims was very helpful in consulting before that job...he even sent one of his top "climbers" to look at the tree and share his thoughts, before i'd actually hired them. They did a great job on the pine, which weathered the recent big storm (Feb 2017) with no damage. They also did very good work on my neighbor's trees , which were very close to my property....they now look good and are not encroaching on my yard. Also David has several times advised that trees I thought needed work were in fact doing just fine and didn't in fact need pruning.
