Always delicious, always fresh with tons of ingredients from the farm on site. The setting is gorgeous with views out to the private lake and warm earth tones. Live music in the evenings (solo guitars) creates a relaxing atmosphere. Service is always outstanding, with knowledgeable and friendly servers. For diners not staying on property it can be time consuming and expensive, but this is meant to be a high end guest experience, not a local casual restaurant. We love it here. read more

We had several meals at Tree during our stay at the Lodge at Woodloch, all of which were pretty good. Ambience- with a very rustic vibe, the restaurant is spacious allowing for ample social distancing which makes for a very comfortable experience. Service- all of the servers are friendly and very willing to accommodate your requests in whatever way they can. Food- by and large the food was overall solid and the portion size is more than adequate. If you're staying at the hotel, the menu is nicely setup in that you can pick one item from each section including soup or appetizer, salad, entree, and dessert. I will say that the proteins served tend to be a bit on the well done side- for example the steak we ordered medium ended up coming out more medium well, and the fish tacos and sea bass weren't as flaky as they should have been. The soup I ordered (summer chowder) was amazing after I added salt and pepper to it. With that being said, the flavors were very unique and memorable. The presentation was also nicely done. The cocktails were just okay taste wise but they were heavy handed with the pours. Overall, if I could give this spot a 3.5 I would- while the ambience and service is great, each meal we had always had one element which was a little off. read more

The front desk staff was a bit "snooty" when we said we came for lunch and were not staying at the resort. We also had to tell the waiter again that we were not staying there and just came for lunch. They just flatly said "People don't usually come for lunch. They come for dinner." Lunch was $30 per person and an automatic 18% tip was added. After tax this came out to $37.50 a person. Lunch includes selection of an entree plus the salad, bread, and "dessert" bar. The dessert selection was just a blueberry oat bar and some cookies in jars. Non-alcoholic drinks are also included. For the price per person, I thought this place was a joke for $37.50 a person for lunch. I selected a sweet potato, chickpea, and tomato stew as my entree and it came out in what looked like an appetizer cup. My husband had the shrimp pita tacos and they were miniature sized. I'm perfectly fine with small portion sizes if it was unique farm to table dining, but the dishes were boring, non-inventive, and small. Perhaps dinner is better and that's why there are several good reviews for this place. read more

As an outsider: this restaurant is located inside of The Lodge at Woodloch, a destination spa. There's an attendant at a gate outside whom you need to talk to in order to even drive into the resort, and then they valet your car at the main door. I walked in without a reservation and was looked at like I was crazy by the hostess... but then of course she easily seated us in an empty dining room. Food is also extremely expensive if you aren't staying at the resort (no prices on the menu...) Other than the above, it's a 5 star restaurant! I went for lunch and in addition to ordering an entree, you get access to the salad bar/small buffet area with snacks & desserts. They had really healthy, fresh options and everything was delicious. However as someone who lives nearby and is therefore not staying at the resort, I'm not sure I'd return other than a special occasion. read more

We spent the day at the Woodloch spa & took an early dinner reservation to celebrate my boyfriend's 40th. The spa was amazing & worth every penny. Unfortunately dinner was a different story. It's not that the food was bad...it was just average. My NY strip was more well done than medium. The sides were eh. My boyfriend enjoyed his scallops. The desserts were not good. This place is such a delight! The food is fresh, healthy, and hearty. During my stay at The Lodge at Woodloch, all meals included are served here at the Tree. The breakfast and lunch menus tend to be the same over the course of a few days, but the dinner menu changes nightly. During breakfast and lunch, they have a accompaniment bar that includes oatmeal, a special frittata, fruit, yogurt, and pastries (for breakfast) and soup, salad, toppings, cookies, and crackers (for lunch). I also loved that they allowed you to customize your meal (adding bacon, avocado, etc). Portions were perfect-- just enough so I didn't feel stuffed. While both breakfast and lunch were tasty, they were just average. Boy, did dinner change things. Dinner here was my favorite part. I had lamb chops the first night and seared scallops the 2nd and each were AMAZING! Overall, a great place to dine during your stay in the area. read more

This stunning place is inside a gated exclusive spa resort but the gracious gentleman at the gate let us in and directed us to the valet door for the restaurant (at this point we were pretty sure it was not a "$$" place, but we were intrigued). The facility is beautiful, perfectly maintained and gracefully integrated into an oak forest. The restaurant takes walk-ins for breakfast and lunch, reservations are at least suggested for dinner. Lunch was a flat $30 plus standard 18.5% tip and tax and included: a small but delicious buffet with soup, breads, salads, wraps, and desserts; choice of small entre plate; and all the non-alcoholic beverages you want. Service was friendly and superb. And the ambiance is worth the price, especially on a humid drizzly day. Floor to ceiling windows put you almost into the woods. Stunning. read more

Came for a spa day and decided to add on lunch. What a lovely restaurant. Big windows overlooking trees/woods. A very relaxed atmosphere. As we were between spa treatments, we ate in our robes. Flat rate lunch included soup and salad bar. A delicious broccoli soup with a nice zing to it and not that heavy creamy taste you often get. So fresh so good. A nice salad bar with wonderful wheat biscuits. I chose the Korean beef satay. Meet was so tender and tasty. Also had was the fig prosciutto goat cheese flatbread that was divine. Had desert of apricot bar and gluten free chocolate cookies. Everything was so fresh and tasty. We came away full but not on that sick way. Food was so tasty. Excellent. read more

Its fine for what it is. They hype this as a fine dining restaurant and while we found the food to be really quite good, it is really a mistake to compare this to a top tier restaurant. Let's face it, there are not a lot of high end restaurants in the area - none in fact. So if you are a cut above the bars and family restaurants I guess you get to claim you are "fine dining". Everything is relative. As I said the food was quite good - we both had the venison wrapped in bacon that was very creatively served over a puree of celery rave. A little heavy on the bacon for me but forgivable. We started with foie gras - again the chef was very creative with flavors and textures - a small piece of toast on the side would have made it perfect. We had a small glass of Sauternes with the foie - not that the wait staff suggested - nor was it on the wine list - it was on a separate desert menu. We had a really nice bottle of St. Estephe which was young and needed to be decanted - again the wait staff at a "fine dining" restaurant should have known this. The servers were all very friendly and very pleasant but just not very knowledgeable about what a "fine dining" experience should be. I always found staff in good restaurants to be observant - to anticipate that I might ask for another piece of bread if my bread plate was empty or refill my wine glass when they noticed it was low. Don't get me wrong I- I can certainly decant and pour my own wine. Maybe I'm old fashioned but ladies at the table should always be served first. And I can't blame the staff - there is no way the could get that experience locally. The Tree is a nicely appointed restaurant that will blow you away if you are not used to really good restaurants. Again everything is relative. The Tree is exclusive - not because its great - but because its as good as it gets in the area. But what really got under my skin is that they add an 18% gratuity. When I tip and I don't ever recall not having tipped, I start at 20% and will tip more for a truly outstanding experience. Apparently Woodloch pockets this - again how to get outstanding staff if they can't earn a living. Enough said - if you want a truely fine dining experience find a restaurant that has earned a Michelin star - then you are on to something and you won't embarrass yourself by bragging about the Tree to people who know better! read more
