2 taco rice and beans combo
    Mariecel G.

I ordered the 2 tacos , carnitas with rice and beans. This was a to go order. I give it a 9/10 the crunchy tacos were amazing and the rice and beans had so much flavor and beans were really smooth. This was the first time trying this place, my coworkers asked if I want to join on their order. I will for sure try more on the menu.

We decided to give this place another try after a few years and had a much better experience. The restaurant is spacious with plenty of seating, a full bar, TVs, and a nice atmosphere perfect for watching football on a Sunday. The food was great. I had the mojarra frita with rice and beans, and we also ordered the molcajete, which was more than enough for two. The fresh tortillas made at the front were delicious. Service was friendly and our food came out fairly quickly. Overall, we're glad we gave it another chance and would return, especially to try drinks at the bar.

Food service and vibe were all there! Even better the price was top tier. We came during the late night happy hour and were in for a treat. We ordered so much food and the value for cost was insane. We will definitely be back to try more happy hour offerings and non special food.

    Two item lunch special....good flavors

My disclaimer always is that I'm not the biggest fan of Mexican food, so always take my reviews with a grain of salt. That being said, this was one of the better Mexican meals I've had in quite awhile. I ordered the lunch special two item plate. Not bad for value: After taxes, $17 with a drink included, plus chips and salsa (which are self serve). I got a pastor taco, and a birria. The taco itself had a good level of spice, and the birria was quite tasty. Again, usually Mexican food is generic tasting to me, but I was genuinely enjoying this meal. The refried beans surprised me....as opposed to being mush like almost ALL Mexican restaurants, this actually had the texture of REAL BEANS throughout, thus providing a pleasing texture. The service was great. I forgot to ask for no onion on my birria, and they happily offered to make me a new one. The gentleman who took my order and brought me a fresh birria had great customer service. He himself would make me like to return. Nothing too groundbreaking, per se, when it comes to Mexican food, but good flavors and great customer service means a rarity for me when it comes to Mexican....not only is this a place I recommend....but I would actually RETURN. Enjoy

Taqueria Maya serves up real‑deal Mexican street‑food that hits hard on flavor and value. The tacos, burritos, and enchiladas come loaded with tender, well‑seasoned meats (birria, asada, chicken) and fresh toppings -- generous portions that feel much more substantial than typical fast‑food burritos. Sides like good rice and beans, and treats like tres leches or churros, round out the meal nicely. The vibe is laid‑back and community‑oriented: colorful walls, relaxed seating -- sometimes with outdoor tables -- and friendly staff who make you feel welcome even when it's busy. Prices stay reasonable, so you get a full, satisfying meal without breaking the bank

Nasty stinky menudo, never again coming back here. I love menudo but never from this place ever again, they do not know how to clean their menudo.

Had a great lunch today at Taqueria Maya. My group sat at the north end of the restaurant where the AC blasts on high keeping that area cool and comfortable on a warm day. Ordering was easy. The young man at the register was helpful and offered recommendations and answered every question about the menu that my group asked. We were given a number placer to put at our table and they will bring it out to you. The updated chip and salsa station guarantees warm crispy chips and chilled fresh salsa. This is kept very clean. You can wash your hands or use the restroom, which is to the left of the register. We chose several salsas; spicy queso was mild. Red sauce was medium and green salsa was hot. I like them all. We ordered a super burrito, Gordita's and street tacos. Every thing was so good! Marinated shredded chicken, which was moist and tasty. The carnitas had that classic slow cooked tender flavor and the asada was well seasoned and cooked to perfection. Very filing, generous portions with authentic flavors. You can tell all the tortillas and gordita's were freshly made in house as well as the marinated meats, rice, beans and everything else. Taqueria Maya always provides an exceptional experience and I can't wait to visit again soon. Yum!

    Mini nacho with carnitas

Taqueria Maya has a bright and welcoming interior with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. I came on a Sunday night and they have happy hour specials on the food and drinks. I had the mini nachos with Carnitas, which were a very generous size and more than I could eat for one meal. They were delicious, piled high with salsa, cheese, guacamole, beans, and sour cream. The complementary chips and salsas from the salsa bar were tasty and had a good spice level. The staff is very friendly and helpful. There was a TV showing a soccer game as well as upbeat music for a fun atmosphere. They have a private parking lot with plenty of spaces.

I love their Enchiladas. I got a combination of red and mole enchiladas. Their red sauce is similar to my moms. No tomato. All red Chiles. The micheladas were great. The games were playing on the TVs. We ate outside. It was a nice day. And the food came out super fast. Plus it's awesome to see la señora making fresh tortillas by hand.

Ask the Community - Taqueria Maya

    Anyone know the WiFi password?

    Did you ask the staff?

Do they do taco Tuesday's and how much?

I don't think they do taco Tuesdays. They DO have weekday happy hour specials in the afternoons, from 3 to 6 pm, I think. Their street tacos are really delicious! And so is their salsa bar! The service is great too.

    Do they have vegetarian tacos/food?

    Yes they do

    Do they do party platters?

I'm sure they would. They're a local place with great customer service so if in the unlikely chance they've never done it, I'm sure they'd be happy to make you one.

We finally had time off again on a Sunday to come and enjoy thier yummy Sunday Brunch…read more Everything tasted amazing! Wish I could eat more I would of tried more dishes. Last time we were there I thought I was able to get just plain tortillas from the tortillas lady spot. But she looked confused then I asked for a few flour tortillas. She asked what meat I wanted to make street tacos. That's fine the pork tasted very good. But I like plain tortillas with the eggs and other dishes. Everyone is very friendly and helpful. I guess next time we will ask the server. We started with the omelets this time. Very good and well made. We tried many things, hard to take pictures. It was very busy and carrying a plate didn't work well when taking pictures.

The portions have been cut in 1/2 for a lot of menu items here over the last 5 years namely the chimichangas but seems like everything else too. The chimichangas used to be twice the size they are now and were loaded with cheese. Now they have no cheese and 1/2 the filling so there mostly flour tortilla now. Very disappointing and the plates they use now are smaller, they used to serve the food on these huge platters. Anyway went there last night (1st time in 3 years) and this is the plate I got. The 2 chimichangas are now the same size as the tamale on the other side of the plate. The service was terrible too. We did not get our food until almost an hour and by the time the food showed up we were full from the chips and bean dip and salsa wich by the way we had to wave them down several times as we seemed invisible to refill the chips and our drinks. We wont be going back again for probably another 3 years. I highly recommend Felipe's in Citrus heights on Auburn blvd. Way better value and the food quality is on par with el tapatio but with five star service!

The restaurant had great energy and a fun, buzzy atmosphere. The crowd was a lively mix of people from the Capitol, couples enjoying date night and moviegoers grabbing dinner before or after a show. Unfortunately, the service was lacking during our visit. One of our meals was forgotten and we had to flag down the server to let him know. Our server also wasn't around very often, so it was difficult to get refills or ask for anything we needed. When we requested a specific number of to-go boxes, we weren't given enough and had to get up and ask for additional boxes ourselves. Overall, the food was enjoyable, but I took away 1 star for the lack of service. The service could definitely use some improvement, especially since it wasn't busy when we went. With more attentive service, this could have been a much better dining experience.

They have a brunch menu but we both ended up ordering from the main menu. She had Camarones de Borrachos and I had La Torta Gorda Carnitas. Both were extremely flavorful. I hadn't been in a few years…read moreand had really been craving their food, so when we had tickets to a show this past week I wanted to take my girlfriend there beforehand. It's always been a busy place and sometimes hard to get into before a show, but the service was always great. This time we sat outside, which actually had a really nice view of the Golden 1 entrance. Our waiter was really nice and courteous, but it was pretty obvious he was doing the job of about three people. He did the best he could and stayed friendly the whole time, but when you're spread that thin it's hard to stay on top of drinks, food coming out, checking on tables, etc. We didn't really hold that against him because it seemed much more like a staffing issue than anything he was doing wrong. One of the things I've always liked about Polanco is their carafe of Palomas. We ordered one at the bar and then another at the table. When we got the bill, we noticed an extra charge for four cups. After looking at it again, we realized that after paying $48 for a carafe, you're also being charged for the cups you drink it out of. That is honestly one of the most ridiculous charges I've ever seen at a restaurant. I've always really liked this place, so it was disappointing. Being short staffed is one thing, but that's a management issue, not the waiter's fault. Charging people extra for cups after they just bought a $48 carafe of cocktails is just wild. This review does not refer to their food, ambiance, decor or staff. Unfortunately this has to do with under staffing (managing issue) and now charging for CUPS
