I have been looking for a curly-hair salon in Reno since I am relatively new. I am delighted to have found Midtown Curls. I had my hair shaped up after a previous haircut where my stylist used thinning shears (a big mistake). Thinning shears are never good on curly hair, as they destroy the curl pattern. Rossio was my stylist, and she did a wonderful job cutting my hair, giving it a hydrating hair mask, and taking her time with my curly hair. Her technique made my curls bounce and look fantastic. Not only did she do an excellent job with the cut, but she also coached me on a hair routine to maintain my curls. She taught me about soothing cream, moisturizing gel and shampoo and conditioner technique. I was blown away by her knowledge and skill set. The salon itself is charming and located in midtown, with plenty of free parking. Count me as a customer and fan! read more

This place is the BOMB! I had the absolute best experience here, first it is so cute and very ethically pleasing, bigger than you think once you get in. The service I got was a first time curly wash and style. I got Ashley Ward and I CANNOT say enough nice things about her, very sweet and professional and was so great at explaining exactly what my hair needed. All the girls are great, they are trained the same step and the same thing to say...so that say they did what they are trained to do not what I wanted. I had my first appointment with Julie in April and just had a follow up to get my bangs trimmed. When I initially went in I hadn't had a haircut since the previous September and I had more frizz than curl! Julie changed all that. She gave me my first dry cut so that my hair wouldn't pull up and be shorter than I wanted after drying. After cutting....the clean and condition came next in the most comfortable hair washing sink I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing. It was so much more comfortable and didn't hurt my neck! TL;DR: Highly recommend! This was my first curly hair cut experience by a wonderfully trained and kind curl expert. I've always had my hair trimmed at those chain salons and they've always cut my hair wet. I didn't know any better. I'm glad a fellow curlfriend recommended I search for DevaCurl certified stylists. I am so glad I did. Maya talked me through every step she was doing to my hair so I could replicate the routine at home. She explained everything so succinctly that I felt confident in the process. The products she used were all natural and had a mild and pleasing scent. The salon is set up beautifully with lovely plants and art. It is clean and bright. I felt so comfortable and relaxed! Darling old house revived into a house of scissors and bubbles. Sydney was a student at Paul Mitchell on Well when we paired for a cutting and color. I really liked her. Then she graduated and moved to southern Cal. I had been using a different shop in Midtown when we discovered we knew each other from the PM days. Sydney is back, yeah. Now she's clipping and lathering straight and curly hair at Midtown Curls. Cute shop where this tiny chihuahua walks out to the front door to great you, then heads back to let the staff know your client is here. Everyone is always so busy when I come in. The space is open, clean, and eclectic. Sydney has the challenge this month, I am finally giving up on bangs. No more I am growing them out. But if I can't handle it, Sydney will be there to fix it. Current Midtown area construction isn't phasing the small business. The have a few spots to park on property and plenty of street parking all around. Thinking of a new do. If I could add another star or brownie points, I would do it without hesitation. First, I like the ease and clarity for booking the appointments. Small details make a big difference! I had my styling session with Anna, she is not just breath taking beautiful but she has a gift with people and hair. My hair, its my lion's mane, part of my identity! But I wanted a fresh and playful look where the curls would bounce more and I could get educated on what was the best way to make them more bouncy and lively! I see some people would question on why pay so much for a haircut, let me tell you... it's not just a haircut, its a class and a personalized treatment! I went in at 6pm and left around 8:30pm. She did not rush me at any moment, instead she gave me the most complete haircut anyone has ( different angles and addressing curl by curl), on top of that her head massages are to die for! Staff is kind and place is pristine and with a modern Tulum-ish flare to it. Very relaxing! Her styling techniques and the products she uses are top quality and my hair is very thankful for it. Her class on how to style at home and replicate the look was easy to follow and she was very willing to answer all my questions. It was worth waiting for this appointment and I see that her success goes beyond her talent to cut and style, it's also the way she takes care of her clients and targets all of their needs. I went to get a haircut and color from Brittany. She did exactly what I asked for and fixed my cut when I wanted more layers she did it. My color came out awesome I had lighter hair on the bottom and after she dyed it you couldn't even tell. She was friendly and fun the entire time. She laughed at all my bad jokes and made me feel very comfortable the entire time. My hair looks just like the picture I showed her at the beginning of Jennifer Lawrence. She styled it at the end even though she didn't have to and added clips and took loads of cute pictures. She even posted one of them to her Instagram account. The bathroom was clean and the entire salon was decorated super cute. All the girls that worked at the salon were very friendly and they all complimented me on the lash extensions I just got. We had a consultation to begin with and Alicia helped guide us to a style that would work with my daughters tight, spiral curls.
