The BEST! I will preface my review by saying that I am terrified dental patient. I've had really bad dental experiences so had put off having anything done for a long time. In December I knew I could no longer wait and a search led me to an appointment with Dr. Frederick Solomon. From the moment you walk into the office, you are made to feel like your visit is the most important visit of their day. Staff is lovely and helpful, the hygienist was the sweetest and she gave me the most gentle cleaning I have ever had. Turns out that I need a lot of work and Dr. Solomon went through all of the various stages of the treatment plan including having me consult with in house dental surgeon. We have gotten started and I am already the owner of two new, beautiful, porcelain crowns. I'd never had such a seamless experience getting crowns put in - Dr. Solomon has the most advanced system where they do a 3D rendering of your mouth including the tooth that needs treatment. Let me start off by saying that I am Part of a generation that have trauma related to dentistry. I was in search of dentist who was trauma informed and skilled. I had just had chemotherapy and my mouth was showing the effects which , by the way, no one warns you about preventing. I tried to be proactive but the oncologist just said "get your teeth cleaned and treated before and youll be fine. First signs were : veneers on two teeth popped off and a crown fell off. I didn't have any pain or bleeding. I was taking good care. Oil pulling, using in betweeners, wearing a guard. I chose this office because they said they offered sedation dentistry. I was greeted with big smiles and nods of compassion by his staff . They confirmed that he is a trauma informed therapist. We started off with a scan and a cleaning; and followed with a talk about the scan. All seemed good till 3 things happened. 1 As i got up from the cleaning , i was greeted by the dentist in the hallway. He pointed me to the doorway where a woman from his team stood with a video camera and he put his arm around me smiling to the camera and said" you dont mind we video tape a testimonial " thought it was joke. I was still tipsy from the nitrous. " we took great care of you?" Looking back that was not appropriate. Then we came back to talk about my scans. There he showed that he is not trauma informed. My experience was that he fear mongered and escalated my nervous system. He was not atuned to what was going on for me. The way he spoke make my nerves disregulated. He said there wasnt a tooth in my mouth that didnt need work. Pulling etc And i had no time to wait. It was way too much . I requested him to send the scans to my longtime dentist in LA who knows me and my teeth for over 30 years. I wanted her to explain to me in a calm way since she actually is trauma informed. Well, i got pushback and that was a red flag. The women behind the desk looked at each other and hesitated saying they didnt think they could do that . Then the office manager said my dentist wont be able to open them and other excuses. What?!!! Shes a dentist! Then one of the lovely women in the back pipped up she could send the scans and the program to open them - no problem! Oh great! Relief! Well! No... it took 6 months of me staying on top of them to have those scans finally sent. And this is from the dentist who said it was urgent for me to start right away. 6 MONTHS!!!! This broke any trust i had. And they are sending me reminders to make a follow up appointment. This is a small office that leads with " personal care" .... whats really going on? I have the ABSOLUTE WORST dental phobia hands down and was looking for a dentist that offered dental sedation. Due to my past dental trauma, I let my teeth deteriorate out of fear of the excruciating pain that I experienced at another dental office a few years ago after getting two teeth extracted. This was a result of the dentist being dismissive of my request for additional sedation needed due to the intense pain as I have very sensitive teeth. I came across Dr. Solomon at Tribeca Smiles during an internet search and called to schedule an appt. I was happy to learn my dental insurance was accepted, they understood my fear and anxiety AND they offered (IV) sedation if needed. I scheduled an appointment a week later and was greeted by an incredible team of professional front desk staff(s)- Eva and Dolly;- Hi ladies!! I guess they were able to identify me by name due to the look on my face as I walked in the door which screamed "ANXIETY"-lol! I also forgot my insurance card - yikes, but they were soooooo patient retrieving my information. The office is beautiful and exceptionally clean. After checking in and taking deep breaths, I began to calm down. The office has Zen inspired designs , a tranquil tea area with soft lighting and a emotional support dog for people like me. It's funny how little subtle elements can create a sense of calming and peace which began to alleviate some of the stress I was feeling. I was escorted to a office to have a 3D scan with photos taken by a dental assistant named Milly. I could NOT have gotten through this appointment without her .She was so patient and comforting, allowing me to express my fears and talk about my past experiences . It felt like therapy-lol!. Dr. Solomon immediately greeted me and made me feel welcomed. I appreciated the acknowledgement before proceeding with a comprehensive oral examination. I need a dentist that is empathetic, non- judgmental , with amazing interpersonal skills, patient and professional. I am a very intuitive person. After my past experiences , if I did not sense this from Dr. Solomon , I would have turned around and walked right out the door. Thank you Dr. Solomon for making me feel valued and respected. After Dr. Solomon reviewed my X-rays and photos we were able to execute a treatment plan which included a treatment plan with possible (IV) sedation if needed . I have ALOTTT of work that needs to be done so breaking the treatment plan into several phases over time seems doable and not overwhelming for me. I hate dental work, especially the sound and smell of a drill but I know I have to push through my anxiety and I feel I found the right team. I proceeded to meet with the Hygienist (Avalene). She was so patient as I explained my fear of dental cleaning - especially since I now have to have DEEP TOOTH SCALING AND ROOT PLANING BELOW THE GUMS . I don't mind if my teeth and gums have to be cleaned -I just don't want to FEEL it-lol ! Hello Sedation!! Afterwards, the manager (Jay) reviewed my insurance plan and fees so I can proceed with the first phase of my treatment plan. I also received an unexpected dental goodie gift bag as a new patient and joined their awards program for future discounts- (thank youuu). I don't often take the time to leave a negative review, but years later I am dealing with the horrible root canal job that was done here by Dr. Frederick Solomon. Perhaps he's great for other procedures, I wouldn't know as I only got the root canal from him. Big mistake! He gave me a root canal (about 6 years ago), and soon after i got it I went back in to tell him something felt off and it hurt. He did that cold test thing around the tooth and looked at it, and told me it's fine. I told him again, it doesn't feel fine, he insisted 'it's fine' and totally wrote me off even when I clearly told him it felt OFF. I had never had a root canal before, so I thought maybe it would settle. It has felt off since. I've just dealt with it due to Covid years, the expense, and life taking over. But it has to be dealt with now. And I have since had 2 dentists look at it via X-ray, BOTH of them said who ever did this did a poor and sloppy job. He packed the tooth root way too far up to the point it went into my bone, and missed a nerve while the other one is over packed. No wonder I felt off! Now I have to get it extracted, get a bone graft, and a new tooth. It's going to cost me THOUSANDS of dollars! Which I don't have for a single tooth so will have to be in debt due to his horrible job and total negligence. Not to mention a root canal should last longer. I don't get if he was lazy or just didn't bother to look closer at it when I told him it didn't feel right. Ugh, so infuriating!!!! I cannot stand when those in medical authority positions don't pause to take their patients seriously, especially when we are the one who has to live with it while paying their bills. Again, maybe he's great in other ways, but beware if you need to do anything like this or feel like he's writing you off when you are the one feeling your own body. Truly the best pediatric dental experience I have ever seen! It was my son first dental visit and he loved it!The front office staff is kind and helpful and I don't think we've waited more than five minutes to be called in. The entire staff is extremely patient and kind with children and they understand that not all kids are the same and they do their best to make sure each child feels comfortable during their visit. Dr. Solomon was mine & my son's dentist for many years. He caused permanent damage to both of us and I highly recommend that you do NOT use him as your dentist. He lied to me about bleaching treatment, for which he charged me $1,000.00, saying it would work on my bonded teeth. It did not work, caused me severe pain & left my already sensitive teeth far more sensitive, permanently. He passed himself off as a pediatric dentist by doing magic tricks and treated my son from the age of about 5 until 16. When my son was 13, 14 & 15 years old, I asked him if it was time for him to get braces on his teeth. He said it wasn't time yet. At 16, when my son had a check-up with an associate of Dr. Solomon's (as Dr. Solomon was not in the office) we were told it was beyond time. When I took him to the orthodontist he was livid that we waited so long. My son had his braces on for 3 years due to this delay. Had we gone in sooner, he would only have needed to wear braces for a year & a half. Since I paid $200 monthly, Dr. Solomon's ignorance cost me about $3,600.00 I should not have had to pay. Walking into Tribeca Smiles was like walking into an episode of Nip/Tuck. All the dentists and assistants are smokin and I had to fill out a form that asked "What do you like about your smile?" - much like "Tell me what you don't like about yourself?" I get a tour of the place from Marcy, who later would actually be the one doing my cleaning. Refreshments, scented oil in the bathroom, dogs running around - all the signs that point "Tribeca". While waiting, I wasn't going to be sold by all the sexiness of the place so word to the wise - SPEAK UP on all matters regarding what your insurance would or would not cover. The receptionist checked it out and gave a complimentary set of full X-Rays and Marcy checked that a flouride treatment would cost $43. Many other dentists I've seen in the past simply throw it in, but to give Marcy credit (and the office's practice), she was cleaning me ALONE - no assistance needed and she was very thorough unlike my last cleaning this year. After the cleaning, the resident Dentists/ Doctors review everything and make any/ other recommendations. Natasha Geen DDS with a stern look "Wear your night gaurd!". Make no mistake however - they will try to sell you. I supposedly have two small cavities and they asked when I'd want to schedule one. You have to walk into a place like this with confidence and simply ask nicely about what your insurance may or may not cover. Tribeca smiles screwed me out of $500 and they almost nearly screwed me out of $2000. Let me give you the lowdown: I first found out about Tribeca smiles through a google search of places near me. I wish I used Yelp like a self respecting 24 year old, but no, I pulled a grandparent move and used google reviews. That was my first mistake. My second mistake was not realizing the ridiculousness of the place when I stepped in. It didn't look bad, to the contrary, it looked like a spa. The staff was attractive. They had a "lion hunting dog" in the office (for the record, a dog CANNOT take down a lion). They had every over-the-top gadget you could think of. When I was treated they did the following: -Took a picture of EVERY TOOTH -Spent 15 minutes telling me I should buy a $250 tooth brush -Insisted that I needed a "deep flossing" which added $200 more to the appointment cost. -After seeing no cavities put a weird laser on my teeth which somehow magically told them that there were cavities, despite them not coming up on the x-ray. -Said that I should get braces, even though I already had braces and wore a retainer. -Informed me that I had over $2000 worth of cavities that I needed to get taken care of soon. At the end of the appointment they charged me $750 dollars for the visit. Yes, $750. Naturally I died inside and looked at the bill. You know that Mass Effect-expensive toothbrush? Yeah, they threw that into the bill. I had them took it out and only had to pay $500. Here is where the story gets better. I freaked out over these expensive procedures I needed. $2000 is 2 months of fun spending money for me. I immediately signed up for dental insurance and visited my orthodontist. I also visited a new dentist for a second opinion. Here is what I found out: -Orthodontist said that I didn't need braces, that I should just keep wearing my retainer. -The real dentist looked at my teeth and saw NO cavities. She even saw that the caps he said that were loose were doing just fine. Tribecca smiles screwed me out of money, put me in a situation where I had to visit two other doctors, and buy dental insurance. All over non existant problems. They are desperate for money to pay for their expensive office. Only billionaires with a fetish for teeth should go here. DO NOT VISIT. Update: March 27 2014- It's close to two years since I've written this review. I've been to four different dentists (I've been moving a lot and spent some time in the military where apparently they love administering dental exams) and so far not a single cavity. Either these four individual dentists are all wrong and somehow my teeth feel fine, or ol' Solomon here tried to pull a fast one. They tried to up sell me on 10K worth of work. The doctor told me I needed to be tested for gum cancer costing $65.00, along with a deep cleaning treatment at $300.00, and 11 cavities to be filled. CAUTION!! Walking into this place you would think that you were going to have a pleasant experience...not the case. I have never had a cavity in my life and after they used the "magic wand" on my teeth, I had 15 "baby" (minor) cavities!!!! Needless to say I was quite surprised. The total bill to fill these 15 minor cavities was $3750!! Fortunately enough I am from NJ and called my old dentist right away. I went back home a couple days later and alas, my old dentist told me that I did not have any cavities (maybe 1 to look out for). Have been going here for about 2 years, seeing Dr. Solomon. Great experience. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They've always been able to see me on time and the office itself is nice, clean and inviting. Dr. Solomon is very attentive, he explains everything he is doing, communicates well during procedures and is mindful of how you are doing during anything that might be uncomfortable. Happy to have found a great dentist with a great practice here in NYC. A few extra niceties - he warms the anesthesia before injecting it, so it's not cold or uncomfortable. This makes even getting a shot in the mouth seem pretty good. Also, I was offered a warm towel to wipe my face with after a procedure, so nice! Because we all know it's the worst to walk out of the office feeling like you look a mess. They are very considerate about this. Word to the wise - be a smart patient and always ask about the procedures and their costs before agreeing. I would caution anyone NOT on an expense account to select another dentist. I haven't had cavities in a decade, and only visit the dentist about once a year. While Tribeca Smiles is very slick, they unquestionably tried to gouge me on dental work. Instead of billing me for regular cleaning, they billed me for "scaling and root planning" or something like that so it wasn't covered by my insurance and cost me more. Then they said all my old fillings should be replaced, and roughed out an $8000 treatment plan to replace them all. I went to the dentist my wife uses, and his opinion was: all my teeth are fine. I just had the most incredible high tech dental experience with Tribeca Smiles. The place is beautiful and the staff is so helpful and friendly. I love that there's also an acupuncture practice on his site where I can get alternative medicine. Dr. Solomon replaced a filling that was giving me a lot of pain. He took pictures throughout the process and showed me where there was decay and cleaned up thoroughly. It was replaced with the best material, a porcelain inlay made with a 3D printer. I've never felt so taken care of and I will now only go to Tribeca Smiles for my dental work. I highly trust and recommend his practice to everyone! read more

Just commenting to reiterate what everyone else has said. I went in never having a cavity in my entire life to be told that I had a ton of them, FOURTEEN of which required drill and fill. They immediately scheduled me for 2 more visits within the next couple weeks. I went for a second opinion the next day and was told I had one or two TINY spots that MIGHT be cavities, but absolutely nothing the dentist would recommend action on. They also do those crappy flouride treatments which I haven't had for years and most insurance companies don't cover. Oh and they took X-rays as well of what seemed like EVERY single tooth. Usually when I get X-rays they take like 4-6 shots...these guys took at least 15, probably more but I lost count. Bottom Line: If you're on Lispenard Street, go eat at 35...it's probably better for your teeth and definitely a more pleasant experience read more

I never been to an office with such a chill atmosphere. The hygienist Avalene showed me around the office and i felt at ease with her. It almost didn't feel like a dental office with the chill lights and small waterfalls all over the place. She cleaned my teeth with this water pick and it was breeze. I have finally found a dental practice i can trust. Tribeca Smiles exceeded all of my expectations. I normally do not like going to the dentist, but that has changed. The staff was caring and patient. Everything was explained to me. The office was beautiful, not what you would expect from a dental practice. Dr solomon practices holistic dentistry, which is essential for me! They explained the high tech imaging and diagnostic procedures and treatment options. It is amazing how much my old dentist was missing with his outdated equipment which was not diagnosing decay i have had. Took my three year old daughter here for her first checkup because it was nearby. Her exam was fine and the staff were so sweet and the dog in the office really put my little girl at ease. (Is it legal to have a dog walking around?). Anyway, they told me that she needed sealants and she had a cavity. My three year old! Who hasn't even had her teeth longer then a year! I fell for it and told them to fix the cavity and that was it. They swiftly fixed it and then handed me the bill which was almost $940 for a THREE YEAR OLD! They charged me for the filling and A FULL MOUTH OF SEALANTS. What? I never gave them permission!!!! Yes, I was standing right there during the dental work, but I thought all that light and stuff was for the cavity! I have never had sealants myself or a three year old so I thought perhaps the procedure for a kids fillings was different. I literally fought with them and they were refusing to take the sealants off the bill insisting they did the work they should be paid. I quickly called my husband, a lawyer, who simply reminded them that they had done work on a minor without her parents permission and perhaps they should be less worried about the bill and more worried about a lawsuit. Long story short, we never went back there and have been seeing another dentist who was shocked to find out that she has sealants since there was NO TRACE of them on her teeth six months later. HORRENDOUS Dr. Soloman flits between different patients whilst treating you hence my problem was not fixed, I emailed them after, regarding my treatment and next steps and they neve got back to me (now I am thankful as will do work elsewhere). They took 3 months to send my claim to insurance - I spoke to them over the phone 6+ times and each time they assured me it would be done - it wasn't. Finally, my insurance rang them directly and they finally filed the claim, however, it was still wrong - what they filed was much less than I actually paid!! Agree with other users that this place is a scam. Receptionists are very nice but incompetent and their job. Also, do not give your email address - they send spam emails ALL the time. I had a similar negative experience as the other low-star-reviewers. X-rays and the "magic wand" found over a dozen micro-cavities that needed immediate care, and the proposed bill was over $5000. There was a probable root canal seen on the x-ray, too. I go ahead and fill about 6 of the cavities, which is the max my insurance would cover for the year. I still end up a few hundred over and pay this out-of-pocket. When the new year rolls around, I decide to go to a dentist in my borough who has high reviews. Among other things, he takes new x-rays, and we discover that the "deep dark spot probably root canal" on the back of a molar was simply a very shallow cavity that wrapped around the back and side of the tooth, thus looking deep on the 2D x-ray. When I pushed to clarify that there was no possible root canal, he laughed and said No Way. I found the staff at Tribeca Smiles to be pleasant, but felt cheated and upsold at every turn. They have absolutely no sensitivity to the idea that some of us have a budget and have to prioritize important dental work, not turn our mouths into swiss-cheese by filling every micro-cavity detectable only by laser. I went to see Dr. Solomon for the first time and it was a refreshing experience. The office has a great TriBeCa feel and the staff was all courteous and professional. They explained all of the procedures and equipment along with various options. They're looking out for good dental hygene, not only what the insurance company will cover. They do point out what is and isn't covered and there was no pressure to do more than was necessary. Overall, a great visit. read more

This is a great dental practice. Easy access, very zen, spa-like setting, excellent staff and top of the line equipment like low dose digital x-rays and 3-d pix of your teeth that appear on the television screen in front of you. The front desk staff is very pleasant, always accommodating and very patient. Dr. Ganji is the best. I have an extreme fear of dentists and had to get a wisdom tooth pulled. The first time I went I got spooked after he'd already spent an hour on x-rays and cleaning. I ended up bolting and he was very nice about it. Eventually I couldn't ignore the pain anymore and went back nine months later. This time I managed to go through with it and it was awesome. I was seen as soon as I walked in the door and was done and out in 40 minutes. The actual extraction was completely painless. Not even a twinge. I love this practice and definitely recommend it. read more

I knew I was in trouble on the first visit, when I came in for two broken fillings and received a diagnosis of 4 "micro" cavities, Invisalign, and teeth whitening- this was in addition to the two crowns/possible root canals to replace my broken fillings. When presented with the prospective invoice I was well above $10K. I actually started laughing. The Invisalign and whitening were pushed by the receptionist multiple times, both before and after the initial treatment (never by a dentist). When I did come back for the crown the Dr defaulted into a root canal, only to change his mind after I insisted he try to save the tooth. I'm now having horrible pain with the crown, and when I returned for a follow-up, was greeted by a new dentist who wanted to fill the 4 cavities. No knowledge as to any past procedures. I called this place to setup an appointment for a cleaning. I told them I did not want any XRAYS done because of my fear of radiation. At first they rejected my request but after a few minutes they came back to and agreed to do the clean if they could take pictures of my teeth. I said that's fine but NO XRAYS. My appointment was set for the following week on a Wednesday. On tuesday the day before my scheduled cleaning the dentist Solomon calls me to tell me that I am required to have XRAYS. I asked why would he wait all this time and then tell me the day before my appointment that they will not clean my teeth with out an Xray. He had no answer and refused to clean my teeth. I feel like this place is a scam and will not recommend dealing with a dentist that forces you to do things you do not want to do. Once Solomon found out I'm writing this review he called me up and left a very lengthy message telling me he is required by law to give me XRAYS. I don't believe him. read more

Basically agree with everything posted here, though I'd like to clarify that my review is on the dentist - not the orthodontist there who is amazing with different office management. I used Tribeca Smiles for almost 2 years. Neighborhood is my common stomping ground so its very convenient. I make good money. I understand (and accept) completely that the frills and spills of Dr. Smile's loft might come at a slight premium. Honesty and professionalism however, I do require. If you do too, don't go here. Like others have mentioned - they like to give you some gloom and doom chart that suggests that all your teeth will fall out in 6-months if you don't get 5k worth of work done today. I fell for about 3k of this story until my insurance refused to process a claim for 2 teeth after seeing the X-rays. The X-ray showed that the work wasnt justified though the doctor told me that the teeth were among the 'priority' ones in my mouth. That was red flag 1. Red flag 2 came on my next visit where they miraculously discovered that I had another 4k worth of damage that needed to be done ASAP. Interesting that a tooth can go from fine to terrible in 3 months. I think that they just did a tooth that wasn't needed to keep me going - maybe the priority teeth would get done once they had all my money. Red flag 3 was an ongoing battle - even before I realized the tooth scam. It has one of the most disorganized, rude, and unprofessional office staff team I've ever encountered in my life. Ran my blood pressure high to deal with such simple people. I had to call multiple times to process claims w/ my insurance. A senior member of their office staff talks to you like you are related to the large dog which roams around the office. She's this way whether its booking an appointment or calling her for the upteenth time to do something she should have done before. Just hostile. If anything changes there - I'd advise Dr. Smiles to rethink his choice in office management. Its truly absurd there. Period. read more
