    Cafe con leche

The first time I came here was two years ago and I remember how good the trigo shake and islas canarias croquetas were. Was meeting with some friends for an early lunch last week and I suggested this restaurant. The inside is not that big and parking is terrible, but I figured the food would make up for it. Very few tables inside but it was clean and has a counter area where the customer can sit or can sit and wait for their to go order. Not sure what has happened during the past two years but the food wasn't that great this time around. We shared the simple egg sandwich with bacon, and ordered a cafe con leche, the croqueta sampler and some islas canarias croquetas. The simple egg sandwich was unflavorful. The croqueta sampler and islas canarias croquetas were my favorite. Sadly, the cafe con leche didn't even taste like cafe con leche. Our waitress seemed overwhelmed although it was just our table and two more tables she was serving. There was a total of maybe 8 customers. We had to keep asking her for more water and napkins.

Early start with my cousin whom is visiting from Orlando and wanted a good Cuban breakfast. Found this place on yelp (thanks), and it's perfect! Located in a plaza, small coffee shop vibes, very clean. Our server was Leidy, she was sweet and very helpful. Y came out quick and was fresh and flavorful. The mimosas were a hit, great balance of not being too tart. Prices are reasonable along with the portions. I'll come back and try their sandwiches next time.

Best brunch in Hialeah ! Although I've noticed their prices have gone up considerably. Service is fast and their people are friendly. We come here often as local Hialeahans. The burger they have is really good and their shakes too!

Came to this little spot for breakfast and it definitely hit the spot. They are known for the Trigo shakes which I didn't have so I need to come back but their breakfast is yummy. I had the Parisian but I was in between that and the avocado toast so the waitress told me she would add eggs and avocado and it was perfect! she was super nice and gave great recommendations. My husband got the Jockey which is eggs and steak and you could never go wrong with that! It was so flavorful and all this paired well with cafe con leche of course! Definitely will be back.

Always an amazing spot in the heart of Hialeah. Very cozy and family friendly. Despite them being soo busy at peak times, they are always attentive to offering a great service and meeting all customers requests. Always going back.

Anyeli our waitress did a wonderful job taking our order, making recommendations, we also had numerous off the cuff questions about the menu. This place is not fancy, but the food is delicious. Only the local people are aware of its existence. If you're in the area, I highly recommend that you give it an opportunity.

Today I gave this place a second chance after a terrible first visit about 6 months ago. The food looks and tastes like it was cooked a week ago, terrible and stale looking. No bread or olive oil on the table. This place does not taste or feel like a "spanish restaurant" The prices are very high and the quality of the food and service very low. I am not coming back, I hope that this old food does not make me sick.

Trigo is the bomb dot come when it comes to a fusion of Spanish tapas and Cuban American delights. My favorite time to visit is during Sunday brunches. I've tried a variety of dishes on the brunch menu and you can't go wrong - from the French toast (served with sweetened condensed milk - hello!?) to shrimp and grits. They also serve Islas Canarias croquetas which is a god send and saves us a trip to Kendall. I've also tried their trigo shake which is a yummy treat and their cafe bonbon which is a dessert in of itself. Service in my experience has been great; wait staff attentive to tables and checking in on orders. Im glad they opened up their space as it used to be very cramped. I'm looking forward to trying dinner here again. Overall a can't go wrong spot for brunch in Hialeah.

Update 8/6/2023: I have been here many times and I have nothing but good things to say about this family operated hidden gem in the heart of Hialeah. Had the pleasure of meeting the Chef and his wife and they're just the most down to earth, delightful restaurant owners I've ever met. The service is also top notch and the food is to die for but now they've incorporated a few Spanish inspired dishes in the brunch menu that just took it to the next level because if brunch was phenomenal before, it just became astronomical. I'd recommend the Pisto Manchego, kind of replacing the old "Gipsy" but arguably a better dish, I've had the Huevos Rotos before and it's delicious, the croquetas are addicting, the Trigo Montecristo which is a incredibly unique and mouthwatering and the burger which is one of the best brunch burgers in town. I've also tried other dishes like the avocado toast, yuca fries, chicken and waffles, Hialeah comfort and the Jockey, all equally delectable. I have to come back to try the Shrimp and Grits "Sureño" and visit for dinner to try the Spanish tapas next door, more excuses to come back to this lovely gem of a restaurant.

Wow is just an understatement i have been to Trigo a few times and never tried the pan con croqueta till today. It was so delicious! it had islas canarias croquetas on the inside with Swiss cheese and i added papitas juliana for the final touch. Also couldn't forget the trigo shake which made it the right combination. I ordered online through Uber eats and the order was done pretty quickly, picked up in store where the waitress welcomed me and handed me my order. Absolutely love this hidden gem in Hialeah.

They have such cute drinks! I just got pineapple juice but my friends got their coconut drink and mojito and said it was to die for! They give you these plantain chips to snack on and they are so good! It's got a sweet, salty, and crunchy chip texture to it. For an appetizer, we got a sampler which had ropa vieja, plantains, empanadas, shredded pork, and some large fried potatoes. I loved that so you get to try a little bit of everything. The ropa vieja tasted just like grandmas. They use ropa vieja as the filling in the empanadas. The fried potato's was steak fry cut style. It was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Just how a perfect fry should taste! Everyone really liked the vaca frita! I think that's a must try! It's shredded beef marinated in this delicious citrus marinate. They fry it afterwards so it's pull apart, melt in your mount soft, with a nice crispy crunch to it. I think this is a must get dish. The desserts were delicious too! For a Friday evening, the restaurant wasn't particularly busy, but the ambiance was actually great. The music definitely added to the experience, especially some good Marc Anthony tunes in Spanish that I really enjoyed! The atmosphere was lively and gave us that Latin vibe we were hoping for. Our server, Diego, was incredibly attentive and really went above and beyond. At times it almost felt like he was trying too hard to make sure we were happy, but honestly, we appreciated the effort! We started with the empanadas and the avocado salad with chicken. The chicken on the salad was disappointing. It had the texture and appearance of previously frozen/reheated chicken rather than the freshly grilled chicken we were expecting. For our entrées, we tried both the steak and a chicken dish. Unfortunately, neither worked for us. Both lacked the flavor we were expecting and instead seemed to rely heavily on salt. We ended up not finishing either dish. The cocktails didn't save the evening either. I started with a lychee martini, which wasn't as good as I had hoped, followed by a Mai Tai that also could have been better. I also saw my drink being taste-tested twice at the bar before it was brought over, which admittedly left me a little unsure about drinking it afterward. And then... THE FLAN! Finally, something I can rave about. They make a VERY good flan, and it was easily the highlight of our dinner. That's all I'll say! :) Overall, the ambiance was great, the music was fun, Diego worked hard to make sure we were taken care of, and the flan was excellent. Unfortunately, when it came to the actual entrées and cocktails, the experience just didn't deliver for us. There are too many Cuban restaurants around to explore, so we'll be trying others rather than returning to this one.
