Initially I chose JDL just because I was able to get service the same day. I mean, who wants to…read morefreeze for two nights? The guy arrived at my house 2 hours after my initial Yelp inquiry and quickly diagnosed the problem. The blower motor had fried, which meant I had neither heat nor AC. He quickly located a new motor, but he wasn't happy with the price he was quoted so he found another source, much cheaper for the same model. NICE! Unfortunately, I had appointments that afternoon until late night, which meant I couldn't be home before he could return with the part. Alas, the repair would have to wait until the next day. Not his fault... my appointments couldn't be avoided. So, dreading the cold night, I was actually thinking I might pay for a hotel that night. This is where it gets awesome: While he was getting the part, he also purchased and left two space heaters at my home to borrow. The space heaters had a thermostat so the temperature stayed perfect and I slept great. The next day, bright and early, he showed me the invoice for the part he had bought, and charged me a fair price for labor. Given the time consumed by the job, the price was more than fair. Now my system works great, and I'm pretty sure it's costing me a lot less to run because that old motor had been making noise and guzzling electricity before it tuckered out. (He showed me the old part... The shaft makes crunchy noises when you turn it by hand. If you know anything about motors, when you stall one or put a load on it, it draws a ton of current.) I met with the owner Mathew McGuire, who I found to be friendly, sincere, and someone who is vested in his business, his people, and working to ensure that he wins life-long customers with every job. I had done a lot of research with AI, so I knew my options well (that research was very helpful and I'd highly recommend doing it in advance of having people out to give you pricing). I had no intention of beating up each of the companies, I simply asked for their best pricing and options. I used AI to carefully review each bid in detail, including the proposed equipment and how appropriate it was for our home. All companies gave solid bids, but there was a very large spread between the highest and lowest. That usually concerns me, but all my research about American Energy indicated that they were a solid, competitive company. It was a big investment, but I ended up converting to an electric heat pump and also getting all our ducting replaced. We have a 2750 sf single-story home with 17 vents, so the new ducting was nearly as much as the system itself. That said, the ducting has made so much difference in terms of balancing the temperature throughout the house, which was a real probelm with the old system. The new system is extremely quiet and maintains a consistent temp throughout the day--and we've had some extremely hot days since it's been installed. American Energy's installers were all very friendly and professional, and did a great jobs with prep and clean-up each day they were here (the initial install took two days). There were a couple minor issues after the install was complete which required two follow-up appointments. One was a equipment issue that required Carrier to provide a replacement part, but Carrier was responsive and quickly provided it. For the additional follow-up appointments, their scheduling person as professional, courteous, and accommodating. In fact, she went out of her way over a weekend to re-schedule an appointment that was supposed to happen on a Monday morning. To me the company has to be a good one to A.) get that kind of diligence out of employees, and B.) to keep those kind of employees. In the end, I'm extremely happy with the system and will gladly subscribe for their annual maintenance contract.

I then had Nick out to replace the blower motor on another unit. Something I could have done myself (3x slower), but was leaving for a work trip and needed same day service. Nick was able to replace it same day at a fair price on a rush. The next time I used the furnace, it was blowing cold. I'm sure Nick would have come out to discover the error and not charged me, but I noticed one wire wasn't connected and Nick confirmed over text and the phone this was the issue. Small issues aside, Nick is easy to work with, knowledgeable, and has proven to be trustworthy.

We've waited 3 years to finish our HVAC project (which was part of a larger remodel). With costs…read moreskyrocketing during and after COVID we could only cover the initial first half of moving our HVAC into the attic. We were now ready to have the units installed and ducting connected. After getting several bids on the second phase of our install, we decided to go with Bryn and the Home Worx team. Bryn was always communicative and able to meet quickly to survey the house after I contacted them. His pricing was competitive and at no point did it seem like he was pushing for one set of equipment over another. When it was time for the install, the air handler was slightly too large to fit through the attic opening and we had just done drywall and paint in that room. His guys did a great job in removing a portion of the drywall to get the air handler so that we can could reinstall the drywall and not have to start all over. Those little details make a huge difference to me because it time, energy, and costs. I'd definitely recommend adding Home Worx to your list of potential HVAC contractors.

The technician, Abraham, showed up on-time, introduce himself, listened to me and then explained what he was going to do. I wasn't watching him, because no one likes to be "watched". However, it was very apparent he was knowledgeable and meticulous with his work. He checked both of my A/C units, diagnosed the problem and explained why and what he was going to repair.
