Stopped here on my way up to Grand Rapids for a rugby game. There are quite a few bars/taverns in downtown New Haven, but I am glad we picked the Trion. Everyone enjoyed their food and the service was great. I ordered the avocado burger and it really hit the spot. The food was fresh and I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone driving through. They also have a double toilet in the bathroom which is worth a stop just to check it out. read more

Made a stop by this local tavern because our usual stop in New Haven is temporarily unavailable! And it wasn't too bad. It appears they have the capability for lots, and lots, and lots of beer on tap. Unfortunately I think they had around 20+ active this night. Which is really good but they proudly boast to serve a lot more (64??) Sorry don't remember. And if I subtract all the IPAs, they had a lot fewer. Still they served Bean Flicker so I was OK. The food was pretty good! I loved the deep fried green beans! Some of the best I've ever had. The pizza was good, Buffalo Chicken. But I swear it was Blue Cheese on it and not Ranch. I like Blue Cheese just don't say it has Ranch on it. Finally we had theor Garlic Cheese Bread and it was fantastic! Looked like actual sandwich bread full of tasty cheese!! Menu pretty much what you would expect in a midwest bar, but didn't disappoint. Breaded mushrooms are not "breaded" but more like chicken fried, but were hot , crispy and done with baby bellas-my fav. Had the grilled Reuben, aside from corned beef being a tad bit salty, it was a great sandwich grilled perfectly on rye. Plenty of it too. Ice cold taps of a good mix of old school beer and craft, and plenty to choose from. Good service to boot. Loved that we could hear ourselves talk. First time there but will be back. read more

I used to love in new haven and never made it into the Trion Tavern and boy was I upset when I found out this gem was Dow. The street from me and I missed it all those years. Then again the beer scene was pretty much Sam Adams-and Guinness back in the day. Stepping inside is about stepping back in time of dark wood, heavy lacquer covered tables with beach scene underneath, and beer stuff ballooned on the walls. Nothing's changed I would imagine since they opened except the beers on tap. Staff even has been here for eons according to them when I asked. Which is good nenes, means it's a great place to work. This place can get busy and even tho they have outdoor patio seating it's never been open on the times I've gone. Short staffed is what they've told me. And I believed them. The employees have been crazy busy each time I've gone but they held up and kept the majority of the customers happy. First visit was super busy and hot outside. A lot of customers. We sat at the bar rail and was greeted right away. The beer menu is very big with many options from light beer to malts and porters even some sour beers and hoppy beers. It gives you the alcohol content and the price. Most come in three different sizes of 6,10,12 ounces. Unless stated otherwise. The price is 2/4/6 and coordinates with the ounces. So basically getting drunk is cheap! I tried a wide variety of 6 ounces and my palate was so happy. I even found a few new favorites. When I asked the waitress told me they have 50+ beers on tap. And they're constantly rotating some it and putting new ones in. Pretty cool if you ask me. No wonder they stay busy. While sitting there an older man came up to complain that they'd been there 20' without being greeted but the table next to kitchen had even tho they sat down after-them. He was upset but the staff explained why and they were sorry. It happens esp when busy The food menu is average size but pricey and the only thing that looked interesting to me was their cracker crust pizza. It was so hot tho all we wanted was ice cold ones so we opted not to eat The second visit was less busy and we found a table in the family dining room chair I had my daughter. Again greeted quickly with great service and great beer. No food for us again because it was so hot once more and nothing sounded good. One day I'll eat here and now that I know how good the beers are here I'm hooked and a super huge fan that encourages anyone who enjoys beer to go. read more

I was in Fort Wayne for an AGS Conference and after our tour this is where we decided on for dinner. Very nice place that I imagine gets much more crowded, we were there fairly early. Okay, I know nothing about Bourbon, they have like 100 different kinds. There is a giant black board and a beer menu. I enjoy a nice beer. I had a Chimay (it's on tap!) for$12 and boy was it good! The only real problem is my friends had other ones and I always think OH I WANT THAT! It would be impolite to drink everyone's beer I suppose. I really wanted the pig, which is a BBQ pork sandwich. I like BBQ Pork! But they were out, it does say right on the menu it is the most popular. So I wept and ordered a Frisco Burger with big salty tears bedewing my cheeks like rain. The Frisco has bacon,American and Swiss Cheese and thousand Island Dressing! It was just incredible. Now you get it with chips and fries are like $1.29 extra and why I went with chips I will never know. I mean I ordered a $12 Belgian Ale? What was I thinking. There were chips and chips are chips. The burger was really good. Very juicy and cheesy. I am going to speak blasphemy now. Sometimes a burger doesn't need bacon. This burger was excellent! The bacon does not detract, but it really didn't add anything. It was nice bacon! But it was not really needed. Excellent cole slaw, why it came out 15 minutes before the burger surprised me. I mean I ate it right away because i was hunger. But it could have come out with the burger. We had two appetizers (there were 5 of us) and the wings are very excellent and I do like fried pickles, I think I have only noticed them on menus i Indiana! If you're a beer nut, you must get over here. The owner keeps 45 taps active with strange and wild stuff from all over. The local 3 Floyds and Bell's selections are well represented. The selection appears to rotate fairly often as well. Very reasonable pricing overall and especially for a growler fill. The food selection is good bar fare, the 'Pig Sandwich' is a huge pile of pulled pork and the burgers are good as well, especially the Cajun Burger. Wait staff is friendly and the bar is a really cool original. New Haven still allows smoking in bars so use that info as you will. They do have a smoke-free family room. This place is fast becoming a favorite of mine and hasn't disappointed yet. read more

Wow. We waited an hour for cold cheese curds and "breadsticks" (which were NOTHING like the description and tasted horrible.) While it was BrewHaven, and we know it's busier than typical, the restaurant was fairly open and there were many tables available. Our waitress was rude on top of being slow. I am very understanding of waitress as I've been one myself, but she had no reason to be rude to us. The management should have more waitress's (experienced) on staff this day. Been here twice now and I had two very different experiences. The first was I had awesome food and terrible service. The second I had just ok food and great service. Both times I sat at the bar, so it's 50/50 as far as your dinning experience will go there. Food is ok, but this place is definitely more expensive then your everyday pub/tavern. Tonight is my first time here and I already know I'll be back! Wanted to try something new, and the extensive draft beer list intrigued me. 58 craft beers on tap! THAT IS THE MOST IN THE AREA!!! After looking over the list, I chose Royal Standard Clown Shoes Beer, per bartender Logan's suggestion. I love it! Solid scotch ale for sure. But they seriously have a beer for everyone! I'm getting the tavern feel sitting up at the bar rail, but id be eager to enjoy an experience here in the dining room. They also have a beautiful patio for warm weather days. I really enjoy the feel of this place. Very friendly, laid back, and perfect for any beer enthusiast! Best beer selection in the area by far. 58 taps. Usually have numerous Three Floyds beers, as well as many other well thought out, worthwhile, often rare, selections. Very nice Bourbon choices as well. Food is decent bar food. Good burgers made from fresh meat from local Kens Meat Market. So why only 3 stars ? For whatever reason the owner refuses to put the serving size and prices on the beer menu. So you might get a beer that everyone else in town serves in a pint, Zombie Dust for example, in a 12 oz glass for a dollar more than everyone else sells a pint for. Not cool. In their defense they do have some decent beer "sales" sometimes, like any 10 oz pour for $3.50, a good deal for some, not all, selections. But that is beside the point. Bottom line, let the customer make the choice. There are some rare beers that I will pay $12- $14 dollars a 10 oz pour for, but the guessing game/asking the server bit gets old. 2008-2009 I was at the Trion at least once a week, now maybe once every couple of months. First time here and it was a good experience. My wife and I split a flight of beers for $10 (which is an ok price). The beers were very good so no troubles there. But each individual glass within the flight was not filled up all the way and one was only barely half full! You would think at a "beer place" they would know how to fill flights correctly. I gave them 1 star so I could post this review, they actually deserve no stars. Went in for lunch and they were out of waffle fries. Made the mistake of getting the salad which was literally rotten. I ordered a bacon burger for my main entree. Once I got my burger, it was missing bacon, they said they were out. Don't know why they didn't tell me that when I ordered it. I asked to talk to the owner or manager & was refused. The waitress was very rude and acted like we were an inconvenience to her. Will never go back. read more

Worst service I have had in a restaurant in a long time. Easily waited 30 minutes before a drink order was taken, then had to wait just as long to get the drinks. Tried to order refills, after 3 Another 30 minutes had to go up to the bar to get service, out waitress was that slow. After the wait, she only shows up with two of the beers ordered, and had the audacity to ask if the people in our group who were not served wanted their beer or not. She double charged a member of our group for a beer, (one of the people who she neglected to bring the beer our to) and getting that corrected was another long wait. This place also neglects to put their beer prices on their menu, and charges $12 for a beer that retails at $3.50 a can. This place was really great when Logan and Frank ran it, but it has become a joke with a revolving door staff that has no idea how to run such an establishment. read more

Whatever you do, DON'T have your holiday gathering at the Trion. They knew at least 3 days in advance that we would have a minimum of 20 people, and we even told them in advance what we'd order, from a list of 5 things, at their request. They said by doing this, the food would all come out at once. You would have thought they had no idea we were coming because every order came our screwed up, and half our party was done eating before the other half even got their food! The owner was on site and we were told he and the ONE cook in the kitchen, and the 2 servers were screaming at each other in the kitchen, and were "all stressed out". Well excuse us, did you want our business and our money or not?? You won't get it again. The only reason I gave 2 stars is because the 2 servers tried very hard to make the best of a very bad situation that was not their fault, especially Kip. Won't go back. read more

Although, I will say the burgers and fries are still good, but kind of expensive when I could get the same thing for cheaper at Hall's just another few minutes away. World class beer selection from around the world. Even as a craft beer enthusiast this place as turned me on to all sorts of new stuff. Prices are high compared to the local joints next door but you only need 1-2 beers when they are 10% abv. The atmosphere is cozy and feels upscale. Very friendly serving staff, but orders were repeatedly incorrect and missing basic ingredients. For example: "BBQ Gizzards" but they forgot the bbq sauce or a "Swiss burger" that came with no cheese. I'm not one to write a review, however, it was awful service. I'll set the tone and then give our experience in numerical order. 5 of us went to dinner, and have been to the trion many times. Never such an awful experience as Saturday evening. 1. First, the restaurant wasn't very busy.. with available tables all around. Took nearly 15-20 minutes to even be acknowledged. 2. Once acknowledged, the waiter took our drink orders. All ordered a drink along with a round of waters. Brought us our drinks, and 1 water. Asked again for water, never came. So I shared a water with my husband. 3. Placed our food orders. One gals meal came out well before the appetizers. And was awkwardly small portioned. Eventually our appetizers (cheese curds and bread dicks.. the waiters words) AND the rest of our meals came to the table. The appetizers were screwed up but we chose to ignore it. The rest of our meals were good. 4. We pay our bills, leave and joke about how we should of gone else where for better service and a more enjoyable atmosphere. But today, a friend that was at dinner with us, sent each of us a message to tell us to check our bank accounts to make sure we weren't overcharged because she had been. Her bill being around $30ish dollars but then charged $512.00 by the Trion. She called to see if the restaurant would correct it and the man acted inconvenienced and not to give the slightest care and told her it was a banking issue. And I will not recommend the Trion to anyone from now on. 5. Lastly, the bread dicks (breadsticks) weren't even good. read more

There were a total of 4 tables and 8 people at the bar and all the waitstaff did was apologize for the slow service because they didn't expect it to be the this "busy". Being a previous waiter I have a hard time sympathizing since I used to have sections bigger than this entire restaurant. We have been going to the Trion for almost 9 years now. We have always enjoyed their beer and food selection which was well worth the price. The last three times we have gone to Trion, the service has been terrible as well as the beer selection (most of the drafts have been out). Each time, it has not been very busy so I am not sure if they have just been understaffed or what. I will bring up the last time we were in there for specific examples which was the end of May. It took 20 minutes to even get a drink order in. Then it took an additional 15 minutes to get the drinks and the waitress did not take our food order when drinks were finally there. She then took another 20 minutes to take our food order (been sitting for almost an hour now and first drinks are well past gone). Once the food order was taken, she never came back until the food was up so no one had drinks that whole time and then she dropped the food off and left. We got our food and one drink in the almost two hours we were there. No apology, she blamed the kitchen. I was a server and I feel for them but it was terrible service. We have been coming here for years and in the last 6-9 months the service has been awful (anywhere from non existent to no beer knowledge to looking like the waitresses/waiters are flustered.) I don't know what the answer is, but it needs to be addressed. read more

Don't know what you want? - They will create a six mini glass sampler for you. #2 reason to stay here - the 14 hour slow roasted pulled pork. I have been here before and this is the first time I was disappointed in both the service and selection. We had looked at the beer list on the website ahead of time and because they were advertised on their website, we had planned on getting flights. Upon the waitress approaching us for our drink order, we asked about flights and she informed us that they do not have beer flights, only bourbon flights. We said "oh, that's not what the website says. It says beer flights. And we looked at the beer list there too." She said that none of it was current because an outside source handles their website, it is all out of date. She felt that was a valid excuse while I feel that is completely unacceptable. We looked at the tap list in front of us and asked about a couple of beers which ended up being out (despite several others being crossed off, these were not). One of the beers we asked for she informed us had not been on tap in several months and blamed the person or company who prints the menus. Okay... So finally, we found some drafts and bottles to try. She had to go check on the bottles to be sure they were in. Luckily, they were. Later, my friend asked for a specific bottled beer and informed us that it is a large pink bottle and runs $18-22. We passed. There are no prices on the tap menu...nothing for draft or bottle. The drafts are priced well ($4) while the bottles are not ($8), but we didn't know that until we received our bill. I appreciate the vast selection of beer at this place, but the confusion over ordering and the question of several things being out or not, made the outing frustrating and less enjoyable. read more

I have eaten here once a year for about 5 years now. This last trip was definitely the best experience that I have had there. The service (Frank) was great, didn't rush us, helped us with selecting our meals. " you'll eat this" still get a chuckle from that. Had what I would call a calzone. It was flavorful and filling. The appetizer we chose was hummus and veggies. The hummus was hotish, meaning we could eat it without waiting for it to cool. Great experience looking forward to my next meal there. I try not to speak for or against foods here in Fort wayne/New haven area. with that being said this is what happened at the Trion. I'm not going to add or take away from this post...... I'll let you decide 1. I night we went it wasn't busy at all and we sat out on the patio 2. it took 20 mins for a server to come and take our drink order 3. My wife order and gin an Tonic with a real lime. I ordered a 20 Oz bud light.my son had a lemonade. 4. It took another 20 mins to get the drink 5. Finallllllllly we got to order our food 6. this is what we got. Myself ordered the car fish po boy.waffle fries and wings my wife had and burger and waffle fries. and my son had a burger and fries 7. 25 mins later the food came. Now with that being said the food came to the table cold . My thoughts are it sat to long. 8. my son said the bacon cheese burger was good. Also my wife said the same 9. My fish po boy was horrible this was by far the worst sandwich I had. unreal,I'm not sure what happened and why they would do this to the customer 10 So after 70 dollars, that will be the last visit that we will make to the Trion until they get it together and fix that food the right way. Don't get me wrong, the beer selection is great but the prices are CRAZY for a pint. Average of $6 and it only goes up from there. I don't consider myself cheap but this is a bit too expensive for me. I was also very disappointed by a small 12oz pour for a 5.5% ABV beer. You should always be informed if the beer is not going to be a pint. The food was good for bar food but unfortunately we won't be back in a long time due to the higher cost than we've experienced anywhere else in Fort Wayne. I've never been to a bar, outside of an airport, that doesn't let you sample. It's just good business. This place is a joke!! Every single time I go they are out of something I try to order. My husband and I went two days in a row for wings because they promised they would be in the next day, which they weren't. The second day we went, was their wing special day, they didn't even bother to make sure they had wings. What a joke. They were also out of waffle fries, and several common types of beer. They claim to have so many beers on tap, but they're always out of them. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Overpriced, negligent, and below mediocre. read more
