Dr Shaw is very nice and truly cares about her patients. The office staff were very helpful and made my kids comfortable

Dr. Shaw is great, but the front office staff makes countless mistakes. They fail to send in prescriptions and when they do they often make mistakes by sending in the wrong dosage or to the wrong location. They have also failed to send in blood work and other specialized reports to experts to have read. We were with Dr Shaw for over 10 years but I just cannot take the mistakes of the front office staff any longer. They're just an absolute nightmare! read more

We love Dr Shaw, Dr Ramirez and Dr Kim! This is a truly wonderful office. I have two toddlers who are constantly sick and they always work with me to get them in to see the dr. The front office staff is amazing. Maria and Kathy are always on top of it! The nurses are all great, we love Pearl! I think it's important to note that when we first starting coming to Dr Shaw almost 5 years ago, I did feel that initial "not sure if she's warm enough to be a pediatrician." I was wrong. She truly is a nice, caring doctor and the warmness is there. I think she listens very intently to parents and takes vigorous notes...and that's why it may come across that she's not warm during an appt. But my initial opinion has wrong. Terrible terrible !! Warning if you DO NOT WANT TO VACCINATE! The whole staff told me that the Dr will respect my choice of not vaccinating my 6 week old baby, 3 times over the phone I I called to check and schedule twice our appointment. Once I got seen the nurse was a bit rushy but nice and told me it was totally fine and that my choice will be respected. ( I checked again to make sure when they told me that I didn't have a 4 weeks check up which I never heard of ) She checked the baby, measured and weighted her and then Dr Shaw came in. As soon as I mentioned that I chose to not vaccinate she ASKED ME TO LEAVE ! She doesn't want to see us, she is sorry she has wasted our time ! Rude !! - That Dr also told me that if she ever agreed to see my baby, my baby would contaminate the other child .., ....., how if they are all vaccinated anyway ???? LOL ! She also mentioned that the aluminum content on vaccines are nothing compare to what they are " exposed " to. So here is a picture ! I've been taking my daughters to Dr. Tristy Shaw since they were 6 years old. She is an amazing, knowledgeable, extremely empathetic doctor. She was not only good with my children were young, but my oldest is now 17, and she is a great pediatrician for teens as well. I highly recommend Dr. Shaw. Also, on occasions, we had to be assigned a different physician when Dr. Shaw was out on vacation-- those two physicians, whose names are now eluding me, were also very kind and knowledgeable. Everyone we meet at that office, including the reception staff, are very friendly and welcoming, and efficient. read more

I don't like to give negative reviews, but especially in this case I feel it's important. We had a couple referrals for Dr. Tristy Shaw as we searched for a general pediatrician for our newly adopted son. I think they came about because of her high Yelp ranking amongst other factors. She may know her business with regards to being a doctor, but unfortunately it felt like business was what she was primarily concerned about. I won't go into details here but despite conversations and seeming agreement prior to our first visit, Dr. Shaw wanted multiple and totally unnecessary office visits. When we asked to wait for a month for non-critical lab tests she sent a certified letter stating that she could not be our son's physician. On top of that, the office stated that we needed to pay $15 to transfer files to the new physician, essentially holding the files hostage, although they eventually relented and faxed the 2 pages of new files. Dr. Shaw may know her stuff in medical diagnosis and treatment (at least I hope so and that's why I'm giving more than a single star) but she has a lack of attention to parents wishes and family situations and at least in our case, an inability to truly partner in the care of children. Her hubris, along with her pettiness and frequent requirements for unnecessary office visits requiring needless out of pocket expenses, not to mention the great amount of time consumed in circular arguments in which she forgot what was previously discussed, compel me to warn others, especially newly adopting parents. read more

Dr. Shaw is very intelligent and a real expert of her craft. I have seen people compliance about hand sanitizer are the same ones that probably are anti vaccination people and believe alkaline water is magical unicorn water. That being said, over using hand sanitizers is really an issue so brush up on the facts, please. Dr. Shaw and I have talked about different ways of administration for the vacations and newer methods and procedures. I love the fact that she discussed this, that she asked for the research on it, and that she wasn't going to be swayed by me telling her what I read. This is exactly what I want. A doctor who is going to use science and facts to take care of my child, and she is great. Do your family justice and do not believe woo woo non-scientific internet ignorance and use Dr. Shaw! read more

This is the WORST doctor !! She diagnosed my daughter with scabies when she had eczema. When I asked for a referral to a specialist she became defensive and very rude. Were talking about the health of a 2-year-old and she's worried about her ego and me questioning her diagnosis. She lied to me about the referral and told me my insurance wouldn't accept it. After talking to my insurance they said they accept any referral from the Dr. Not only is this Dr. incompetent but she's a liar and has absolutely no business working with kids, I can tell she truly doesn't enjoy her work. read more

Half my moms group has Dr. Shaw as their pediatricians based on 2 Yelp reviews. I will be the 3rd. Dr. Shaw is nice and thorough. Pearl is somewhat militant, but I liked her. Kathy at the front is super nice. Pearl's daughter was training to do the front. She seemed very friendly. There was some miscommunication. I specifically called to ask if Dr. Shaw was open to an alternative vaccine schedule. I was told Yes as long as I vaccinate. I was also told that they have a well entrance and a sick entrance, like my former pediatrician does. I chose her because of these 2 answers, after calling literally a dozen or more recommended doctors looking for separated entrances. Neither are accurate. Dr. Shaw is very strict on vaccines. There is only one entrance. There are, however, separate waiting rooms if you ask for the well baby one. The 1.5 star deduction is for the discrepancy in information and because I didn't feel like Dr. Shaw exudes the warmth I am used to from my son's other practice. My moms group friend has echoed this opinion. I also am not as comfortable with Dr. Shaw and Pearl using regular soap before examining my son. I am sure they have their reasons, but I am so used to everyone using Purell from the time I was pregnant, in the hospital, and at my last ped, that it just made me feel uncomfortable. Maybe it has something to do with not wanting to use too much antibacterial products, but hospital protocol is to use Purell before examination and after. I like this and feel comfy with it. I wasn't sure what it would be like to have a single doctor instead of a practice, but when I did call with a question, Dr. Shaw called me back relatively quickly. My other practice has nurses on call to return your call all day and the only time I called on a weekend, the doctor called me back within 10 minutes. Still, Dr. Shaw is diligent about returning calls. That is a big plus. Overall, I think most people would be happy with her. I am just a bit alternative minded and it isn't a fit. Office is clean and well run. I did think it was a little over the top that Dr. Shaw sent me a certified letter excusing me from her practice, since I refused to completely catch my son up to the CDC vaccination schedule. (besides polio and Heb B which she was not too worried about) The hubby and I had to laugh at how extreme this was, but I respect that Dr. Shaw feels very strongly about this matter. This makes the info I was given over the phone even more annoyingly wrong. *****Update: None of the moms in my baby group are staying with Dr. Shaw. They have all had experiences that made them uncomfy and are now looking for new pediatricians. I have heard their stories and my opinion of this practice has gone down to 2 stars, but remains 3.25 for my own personal experience.****** I am very happy with Dr. Leti Burgett in Manhattan Beach. She is very proper and uptight, so if you don't have an issue with that she is an excellent pediatrician. read more

My wife and I have trusted Dr. Shaw and her partner, Dr. Czaplicki, with the medical care of our three year daughter since she was a newborn. We've been happy enough that we have begun taking our newborn son there as well, without hesitation. A couple other reviewers complained about the $15 charge for files, I believe that's pretty standard practice, or at least, not uncommon. I think signing up for a yelp account just to complain about it is a little petty. read more

I have been going to Dr. Shaw for almost 4 years now with my two children. We are always warmly greeted upon arrival, the staff remember our names and are always engaging. We have never waited pass our appointment time and the nurse, Pearl, is amazing. Even though she administers the shots both my kids still like her. She is very informative and good with the kids. Dr Shaw is always thorough and you never seem rushed. You can ask her a million questions and you never feel like she's pushing them to end. Latest review on 8/19/15: Once again, Dr. Shaw has gone above and beyond by calling us after hours, squeezing in our kids to be seen the next day, and making sure prescriptions get where they are needed. In addition, Dr. Shaw personally called us back immediately with test results. Frankly, I have never seen this kind of customer/patient service in the medical industry before. Prior review (5-stars, too): We have been so pleased with Dr. Shaw and her office for over 5 years. Not once through having our children have we ever considered taking them to another doctor. Dr. Shaw's office is always available to see our kids. Any time we have called and said one of our children is sick, they tell us to bring them in the same day--never do they say the doctor is not available. Furthermore, the doctor will always call you back if they say the doctor will call. This kind of service is far and above anything I have ever experienced with medical organizations. We started with Dr. Shaw from before the first child was born in preparation for needing a pediatrician. Dr. Shaw was in the hospital regularly and was very helpful. The same went for the birth of all of our children. Dr. Shaw's office is completely professional yet totally friendly and helpful. This includes dealing with children, us as parents, and insurance billing issues. Kathleen works the front desk. She is always helpful, easy to talk to, and follows through. She remembers our family. She gets us in when we need to see the doctor. She does a great job with the insurance and billing. Pearl is the doctors' assistant. She gives the shots. We have fun with Pearl when trying to keep the kids liking going to the doctor's office. Pearl is helpful, patient, and has a very pleasant disposition. Pearl is very thorough doing intake to prep for the doctor, and makes sure we are taken care of well. Very competent. Dr. Czaplicki works Mondays, so after sick weekends, we have seen her a lot. We trust her and appreciate her just like we do Dr. Shaw. Czaplicki makes sure we are well informed and understands what is going on and what can be done. read more

Had such a great experience finally a great pediatrician that really cares about your baby felt kinda lost as far as how to feed my child dealing with constipation , she was able to inform me with so many different things that would work for us Dr, Shaw actually listens to every small little detail you tell her and looks at your directly and your eyes you can tell her Dr, Advice and expertise comes from the heart ! So happy that we found such a great sincere Dr, that really cares about our babies ! We have been seeing Dr. Shaw for close to 3 years now with our two girls. From the time we have spent in her office we have seen her to be kind, patient and competent. I always feel like she takes the time to explain any diagnosis she gives all the way from a serious dairy allergy to ear infections to a basic rash. She takes her time to answer any questions we have, clearly explains her reasoning behind any diagnosis, and is genuinely a kind human being! Reading a few other reviews, I am shocked because she has always respected our requests as parents when we have deviated from the norm and has provided us a referral to outside doctors when necessary. We love going to see Dr. Shaw. We chose Dr. Shaw when moving to CA about three years ago after reading extremely great reviews. She has exceeded our expectations for our three children. We also love her office staff that is always so very accommodating. The attention and care that Dr. Shaw always provides to our children is the very best. Recently, Dr. Shaw gave us some great recommendations of some outside sports to try which have really boosted my children's self esteem as well. I first met Dr Shaw when she was completing her residency at Children's Hospital Los Angeles (I am a RN at the hospital). When it came time to choose a Pediatrician she was my first choice here in the South Bay. She has been caring for my children since my oldest, 10 yrs old, was an infant. I have always been more than happy with the care we have received. She always calls me back when I have a concern and she values my input as a mom (and pediatric RN!) The reason I'm writing this review today is because of the amazing care and concern we have received after my darling 8 year old daughter swallowed a magnet....Dr Shaw has been very concerned, taking my calls, returning calls before and after hours and making an amazing referral to a GI specialist. A good family friend, a pediatrician, recommended Dr. Shaw to us. Our friend takes her 4 year old son to Dr. Shaw and raves about her. What was especially compelling to us was that our friend's son has had some serious health struggles. As a pediatrician herself, I expected our friend to be an especially discerning consumer of those caring for her son. Her opinions of Dr. Shaw could not have been more positive; for this reason my husband and I interviewed Dr. Shaw before the birth of our daughter. Dr. Shaw's interested, calm, and attentive demeanor convinced us to join her practice. What a wonderful decision we made! As first time parents we have made our share of worried phone calls and, at times, struggled to assess what is and what isn't something about which to be concerned. Dr. Shaw handles all our queries with the same calm, intelligent, concern that was evidenced at our first meeting. For the most part, of course, our new-parent concerns are the sort of things that wouldn't trouble a second-time parent. While Dr. Shaw responded to these issues with quick reassurance, she also didn't hesitate to act when matters were more serious and warranted further investigation (as was the case on two occasions). When we had to see specialists for further evaluation of a problem we were equally pleased with the doctors to whom Dr. Shaw referred us. Dr. Shaw responds to urgent phone calls very quickly. She returns non-urgent calls before office hours, at lunch, and immediately after work - so we never waited long to hear back from her. Additionally, her nurse Pearl triages the calls; on one occasion I thought a question could wait to be answered until the end of the day but Pearl thought the issue was more urgent and had Dr. Shaw call us back within minutes. Dr. Shaw's office staff is wonderful! They are always happy to see us and our daughter loves to interact with them. This helps to make visits (which often involve vaccines for the little ones) cheerful and exciting. Pearl is fabulous. She is a pro with children and handles the unpleasant parts of the visits (she gives all the shots) so quickly and with such a deft hand that the tears are gone in a matter of seconds. She and Dr. Shaw exhibit a similar warm competence that set the tone for every visit. The office is clean and cheerful. Each waiting room (one for sick kids and one for well visits) as well as each exam room are decorated with charming animal murals. Dr. Shaw is prompt and appointments typically start on time or only a few minutes late. Yet Dr. Shaw seems to schedule enough time for each patient that she can answer any questions you have (no matter how long the list!). I can't rave enough about Dr. Shaw! i just wanted to write a quick review about the entire team at Dr. Tristy Shaw's office. She is my daughter's pediatrician and I couldn't be more pleased about our selection. Dr. Shaw is kind, always listens to our concerns, and is always gentle with my daughter, and informative, without ever being a know-it-all. We have seen her frequently because of well-baby visits, and my daughter has been sick a few times too, and we always get wonderful care. Their front-office gal, Maggie, is exceptional. She is always kind, friendly, and treats matters with urgency. I called in to Maggie yesterday to have Dr. Shaw call in a scrip for my daughter, and Maggie called me back promptly the next morning to let me know it was in. Pearl is also good too......the lady with the shots! Yikes! But she is gentle and quick, which is important. I am very happy with this office. read more

My children started seeing Dr. Shaw when we moved to Southern CA about two and a half years ago. We are very happy we found this office. My children, now 2 and 4, love going to the doctor. My daughter loves picking out a little toy after her appointment. Dr. Shaw's office always greets us warmly and Dr. Shaw is very thorough. She returns my calls very quickly and if you have an urgent call after hours she returns her page very fast. All non urgent calls are referred to a triage nurse at the Little Company of Mary. The triage nurses have also been very helpful in helping me decide if I should take my accident prone two year old into urgent care of if it can wait until the office is open. Just recently, and what prompted me to write this review, is how wonderful Dr. Shaw is in helping you through a difficult situation. My daughter might have a hearing loss and Dr. Shaw quickly returned my call after my daughter saw a specialist. She called me at six in the evening and spent time with me going over my concerns and recommended I get a second opinion. The next day, before noon, she had called the specialist my daughter saw the day before, and we went over their conversation as well as Dr. Shaw deciding on who would be the best doctors for my daughter to see for that second opinion. She even called me later that day to see if I was able to get an appointment. I have never had a doctor respond so quickly and thoroughly about a concern. I can tell Dr. Shaw really cares about her patients. I am very happy I found this office and if you are looking for a pediatrician I highly recommend Dr. Shaw! read more

Today was my first time bringing in my son, and I was very happy with the greetings from the office and the nurse that helps the doctor is amazing with children. She really knows how to treat kids with terrible twos problem (my son) lol As far as Dr.Shaw she was so very helpful with all my questions and concerns with my sons hearing and evaluated him and checked him so well that my son did great and did not fuss or fight to let her check him. My son usually does when it's comes to other people touching him in his ears or checking them. So overall with everything my husband and I feel that they deserve these five stars and so much more. read more

We have been seeing Dr. Shaw since our daughter was born 1+ years ago. She and her staff have been wonderful with us and attentive at making sure our daughter is meeting all her health and developmental milestones. I chose her because she has two separate waiting areas for sick and well kids, as well as the fact that she only supports a standard vaccine schedule. She has also been helpful in guiding us through circumstances where we concerned about our daughter being exposed to un-vaccinated kids, which unfortunately is becoming more common in the South Bay. Their staff follows the correct protocol of hand washing when seeing patients- washing their hands before and after. For the other reviewer suggesting hand sanitizer is better, you are very mistaken as hand washing is recommended over hand sanitizer by the CDC. Her staff has always been responsive when we called after hours, and has been able to fit us in as needed for urgent issues. I wouldn't say she is overly warm to me if that is what you want in a pediatrician, but she certainly is with my daughter. I find her smart and attentive, which is way more important to me in a doctor than someone that makes me as a parent feel warm and fuzzy. read more

We did a lot of research before picking a pediatrician. Looked at reviews from various websites and narrowed down our choices to only those doctors who had positive reviews on more than two sites, with no real negative reviews. I mean let's face it, some reviews are clearly bogus, but when you see a consistent pattern then it's worth noting. Dr. Shaw was one of a couple who passed this requirement in our area and I must say, the reviews are spot on. My son is now 2 and 1/2 months old and we've had three visits already. Each time we are greeted warmly with minimal waiting time. Examinations have been quite thorough as well. I never feel like I'm rushed as we tend to ask a lot of questions. She has also made the time to personally call us back twice; once for advice on how soon we could travel overseas and the other for a doctor referral. read more

This office is the best. We have been with Dr. Shaw for 8 years. The staff is great and Dr. Shaw is a perfect blend of knowledge and kindness. Every diagnosis has been 100% accurate. When my son broke his arm and required surgery Dr. Shaw picked up the phone ( not her staff which would have been fine) and checked in. Please understand that my son broke his arm on a weekend and Dr. Shaw had nothing to do with surgery. She called because she cares. We are so glad our 2 boys are under her care. read more
