I've been wanting to try Tivoli Tavern for SO long! As everyone knows, getting a reservation here can be a struggle since people are seriously on their A-game the second reservations go live. We happened to already be in the city that day and somehow got lucky finding a reservation close to the time we were already nearby, so we knew we had to take our chance! The whole place is beautiful and has such a cozy, classic Chicago feel. I would absolutely come back, but next time I really want to sit outside because their outdoor patio is gorgeous. The staff was also super friendly and really helpful with recommendations throughout the night. We started with the warm Parker House rolls, which were so soft, fluffy, buttery, and delicious. Then we shared the vodka rigatoni, and the portion was definitely big enough for two people to split. So creamy, comforting, and really good. Of course we had to end with one of their classics, the sticky date cake, and OMG. Soooo good. Warm, rich, sweet, and the perfect way to finish dinner. Trivoli Tavern was the perfect first stop in Chicago. Our flight was delayed, so we arrived late for our reservation and were already watching the clock because we had another reservation afterward. The host was incredibly accommodating, and once we sat down, the service was absolutely perfect - friendly, attentive, and FAST without ever making us feel rushed. We shared the skillet cornbread, baby artichoke gratin, truffle mafaldine, and mushroom casserole, along with Hugo Spritzes. Everything was delicious, and each person thought the next dish was the best, mind was the mushroom casserole! And the atmosphere might have been my favorite part. Walking down into the cobblestone alley and dining outside genuinely felt like we'd stumbled into one of those little alleyway restaurants in Rome rather than being in the middle of Chicago. Visited on July 19th with my sister and had a great lunch! Our server, Alex, was extremely hospitable and gave some great recs. Firstly, the ambiance and decor was extremely comfy cozy. We were seated at a table with big arm chairs, which was so relaxing. The lighting is dim, and there's moderate noise. My favorite items were the crab Rangoon (the spicy mustard is the star), frozen cosmo (so strong and yummy), and the branzino (light and flaky). My sister ordered the vodka rigatoni, which was pretty good. As were the rolls! If you do not favor truffle, you can ask for regular butter on the side. Of course the girls love a Caesar! It was made with potato chips instead of the typical croutons, which was cute. I did end up sending back the creamed spinach. Love!! Tough to get a reservation, but worth the wait as a walk-in. The dining room is super cozy and has a great ambiance, and I've also really enjoyed sitting at the "lobster bar." This is probably my least favorite Hogsalt restaurant so far. I'd only come back for the mushroom casserole. On the bright side, everything came out to about $200, which wasn't bad for everything we ordered. The Warm Parker House Rolls (5/10) reminded me of Hawaiian rolls but with a thicker, slightly rubbery crust. The truffle butter was sweet and delicious, but the rolls themselves were a little salty and not as soft. The Pigs in a Blanket (6/10) were pretty standard. The mustard had a strong kick, and the puff pastry with sausage was tasty without being memorable. The Prime Rib (6/10) was fresh and paired well with the béarnaise sauce, but the meat came out a little cold and I got tired of the flavor after a few bites. The Truffle Mafaldine (6.5/10) had perfectly al dente pasta, but it wasn't creamy at all and arrived almost at room temperature. The truffle flavor was pretty light too. I definitely prefer the creamy version at Ciccio Mio. The Mushroom Casserole (9.5/10) was easily the star of the meal. Super creamy with an addicting garlic flavor and an amazing crunchy topping. For dessert, the Sticky Date Cake (7.5/10) had great textures with warm rum cake, brown butter ice cream, and crunchy date crumbles, but the toffee sauce was way sweeter than I'd like. The Butterfinger Pie (7/10) also leaned too sweet, though I liked the crunchy Butterfinger pieces and perfectly firm crust. Service was good overall. 7.5/10. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable, but the food came out pretty slowly. We waited around 20 minutes just for the bread after ordering. I had the pleasure of checking out Trivoli for dinner while in town recently and my mind was blown. To start, the interior is gorgeous. It felt like an old school Italian eatery and the dining room just kept going with booths and plenty of other tables. Our server was absolutely incredible (I think her name was Sierra?). She informed me of all the amazing gluten free options I could enjoy including the corn bread, sushi (gluten free soy sauce, yay!), and pasta. This menu is surprisingly vast for my gluten free foodies out there. The corn bread is something I'd add to my last meal on Earth. It was warm, fluffy, with a crispy cheese top and honey butter. I need the recipe ASAP. The caesar salad made with potato chips instead of croutons was f*cking genius. I wish I had thought of it! The steak frites, although small, were expertly seasoned with a herb crust that didn't negatively affect the juicy and tender cook on the steak. So, so, so good. The vodka rigatoni was the best vodka sauce I've ever had. I must crack the code on how they do it -- I've been thinking about this dish ever since. It was smooth, with small chunks of tomato and a nice kick. Although I didn't get to eat the lobster roll in its true form due to the roll, I enjoyed bits of the lobster on the accompanying potato chips and almost lost my mind. So fresh. The sushi roll was maybe my least favorite thing we tried but it was still good so that's saying something about the rest of the food. It just felt like such a novelty to have all the other dishes we did PLUS sushi, so we had to indulge. I mean, what other place is doing that?! We were all totally blown away. First, the vibe of the place is so cute, has very Italian looking outdoor seating and the inside is dark and vibey. Absolutely loved everything we ordered here. This place is gorgeous with a lovely atmosphere. We sat at the bar. I got a cosmo which was very solid, nice and refreshing without being too sweet. Truffle mafaldine: 4/5. If you love truffle flavor and always feel like people don't add enough, this is the pasta for you. This packs a HUGE truffle punch, perfect for me. You can add a protein to it and I chose ribeye which was cooked to perfection with a good crust. The pasta sauce was a little over salted and the pasta a bit undercooked but I'm going to put that on them being close to closing when we ordered. I'd come back and try it again for sure. Since they only book 21 days in advance, I actually set an early alarm just to snag a reservation for my birthday dinner, and luckily, I managed to secure a 6:30pm spot on a Tuesday night. Tucked away in an alley with a great outdoor seating area, the place is super cute and has a wonderful, old-school vibe. We were seated inside in a comfortable booth, and from start to finish, the experience was flawless. I started the night with a classic cosmo, and right away, our server was incredibly accommodating. She was very aware of my gluten allergy and proactively asked about my comfort level with cross-contamination. The menu has many items clearly marked gluten-free, which made ordering a breeze. We shared the GF cornbread to start, which was absolutely delicious. For my main, I ordered the GF rigatoni alla vodka--all of their pasta is homemade, and you can truly taste the quality. I also got a side of the au gratin potatoes. To top it off, our server brought me my own separate side of chips and reassured me that they have dedicated fryers for their fries, which is always an amazing bonus when dining out with an allergy. They generously brought out a complimentary sundae to celebrate my birthday, and we also ordered the flourless chocolate lava cake to share. Visiting my son and we came here for lunch. We are a party of 5 and had reservations. We were promptly seated and given menus. Since this was our first time dining here (my son has been here many times), we took a bit of time trying to decide what to order. We decided to try the Smoked Ribs, Pike fish and chips, New England Lobster Roll and the Warm Parker House rolls. Our waitress asked if we wanted the appetizers to come first - since we were sharing we said to bring it out whenever it's ready i.e. no specific order. The ribs and fish and chips entrees were the first to be served. We had also asked for some ice for the table. We waited quite a while before we inquired about the bread and the Lobster roll. Our waitress at this point had not come to check on us - it's about 15-20 minutes since our food arrived. She also forgot about our ice request (We never did get it!). The fish and chips were delicious - crispy on the outside and tender flaky fish on the inside. It was also not greasy and tasted delicious. The chips (fries) were also well done; howeveer, it was a bit on the salty side. None the less it was delicious. Took a while to get some ketchup and "tabasco" (they do not have tabasco but did have crystal hot sauce). The smoked ribs was excellent. Nice smoky flavor and meat was tender. Portions were very generous. As to our missing food order, she was apologetic and informed us that the Lobster roll was made in another kitchen and she had to go and check on it. Not sure what happened there but the rolls turned up really fast. The parkerhouse rolls, on the other hand, did not show up. We inquired again and she was surprised and said "You still want the bread?" and went ahead and placed the order. We surmised that she probably forgot about the order in the first place! The lobster roll was delicious. It came with chips not fries. The chips were also salty. The Parkerhouse rolls finally turned up with the black truffle honey & grass fed butter (5/5). The butter was sooo good - well worth the wait. We were rather stuffed by this time but managed to eat 2 of the 4 rolls! Took the other 2 home. The restaurant manager came over to our table and was very apologetic and informed us that she took care of our table as she felt that the service we received today did not reflect their usual level of service (My son also commented that he's never had poor service here). I appreciated this gesture and feel that restaurants should own up when they fail to provide the service expected at a reputable restaurant. For this reason, I did not ding them any stars. The food was really good and it was unfortunate we had subpar service when we visited. The restaurant was cozy - they have a few outside tables but we sat inside. There are booths as well as tables. Then we ordered the baked crab cake. This thing is MASSIVE. A lot of crab meat. It was a little chunky so you would get a bite of all crab meat and another of all breading or whatever it is mixed in. Would have preferred for it to be mixed a little more so that you get crab meat in every bite and it is not huge chunks. Also could have used a tad more seasoning. My husband ordered the French onion soup. It was pretty good. A LOT of cheese, which I love. The "crouton" was a pretty thick piece of bread and it soaked up a little too much in my opinion. Still tasted great! Last, we ordered the sticky date cake. I think this dessert is a little overhyped. It was a light cake (not dense) and not rich, nice warm light cake. I wouldn't say it was bursting with flavor. The caramel and crunchy topping definitely elevates it. My husband loved it, but he is not a huge dessert person. Had such a great night out with my daughter at Trivoli Tavern. From start to finish, everything was outstanding. We started with the artichoke gratin and the salmon Caesar salad, and both were absolutely unreal. The flavors and quality were next level. My ribeye was cooked perfectly -- an incredible char on the outside, medium rare inside exactly as ordered, and seasoned unbelievably well. The mushroom casserole may have honestly been the best mushrooms I've ever had. My daughter's vodka rigatoni was top notch and packed with flavor. So happy I snagged a reservation for this spot -- this was a highly rated restaurant and it definitely lived up to the hype In regards of food: -- Pike Fish & Chips: 10/10 the reason I ordered this is because I read a review from someone who was British who said this was the best fish and chips they've ever had and I have to agree. I also loved the fries it came with because they were crispy on the outside and had a good amount of potato in each bite -- Crispy Fried Chicken: 9/10 the breading was also perfect but I do think it's missing a good sauce. the dish is included with a bottle hot sauce but because I don't do spicy sauces, I did find the fried chicken a little dry on its own. Loved the coleslaw and mashed potatoes that came on the side though -- Lobster Mac and Cheese: 8/10 very creamy and cheesy but not much lobster flavor. wasn't a bad dish at all but I probably would skip this for next time because the other dishes were more of a standout -- Sticky Date Toffee: this is the dessert they're known for and I have to admit I was reluctant to try it at first. I don't really like dates or toffee and I had read a few reviews who mentioned it was a little salty. I'm not sure if they adjusted the saltiness based on feedback but I didn't find the dessert too salty at all. The spicy sausage orechiette was the highlight for me (9/10) and the salmon was fine but nothing to write home about. The service was pretty good in terms of keeping our water glasses full, but they comically kept coming to take plates away right before our last few bites. The ambience is beautiful. It was my friend's 21st birthday. I remembered this night very vividly. I am still there. It is so interesting because everyone was so sweet but everyone looks like they are in school uniform uniforms from over the pond. This was a nice place and the ambience and lighting is beautifully dim and my friends look so beautiful and the match their food as well. I recently treated myself to a downtown staycation and decided to kick off my birthday celebration at Trivoli Tavern. I'd dined here before and had such a great experience that I knew I wanted to come back. When I checked for reservations, there weren't any available, so I decided to take my chances as a walk-in. While waiting, I overheard that the wait was about an hour, especially if you wanted to sit outside. Luckily, there was a single stool open at the Lobster Bar, so I was able to grab a seat almost immediately. Sometimes dining solo has its perks! To start, I ordered the Coconut Shrimp, and they were fantastic. They were perfectly crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and paired beautifully with the orange-chili marmalade, which added just the right balance of sweetness and tang. To drink, I had the Harvard Manhattan. It leaned a little heavy on the booze (), but it was incredibly well made and delicious. For my entrée, I went back to an old favorite, the Truffle Mafaldine. I ordered it during my first visit and honestly hadn't stopped thinking about it since. If you're a truffle lover, this dish is an absolute must. Before you even take your first bite, the aroma of fresh truffle fills your nose. It's rich and packed with flavor. The portion is generous, so I happily took leftovers home. For dessert, I grabbed a slice of the Butterfinger Pie to go. Unfortunately, it was the one miss of the evening. The pie was overwhelmingly meringue, making it difficult to taste much chocolate or Butterfinger. It just didn't deliver the flavor I was expecting. The restaurant was incredibly busy, so the service wasn't the most attentive I've experienced. Sitting at the Lobster Bar ended up being my entertainment during the extended wait times though. She didn't disappoint. The food was amazing the hamburger everybody said to have , which she did - she is still talking about two days later! my husband had an amazing steak and mash potatoes , I wasn't as hungry so I went with the French onion soup, which was pretty delicious. Visited Trivoli Tavern with my cousins, and experienced the most wonderful and caring wait staff, with a special shout out to Branden for the phenomenal service! The restaurant was gorgeous, and very accommodating of my party, we had lemon drops, amaretto sours, margaritas, and the food was amazing. Steak frites and Sushi rolls were definitely a hit as well as their pasta dishes (key thing to note is that all their pasta is made in house, and tastes like it!). We finished the night off with the dates cake and strawberries and cream, and honestly it was one of the best nights out I've had in a long time.
