The subtle caffeine lingered throughout the day. I waited two minutes and 30 seconds. TRO Coffee's barista is the main attraction. I observed how he'd endlessly chat with customers lounging beside the counter. He'd banter and empathize with all the regular patrons. I arrived on a weekend (around 1:20PM). Shockingly, this hidden location had a consistent stream of customers. TRO Coffee's ambiance is an acquired taste. If someone had decorated a mall's parking garage, it would resemble TRO Coffee's interior. Classical/Jazz Elevator Music played in the corner. Customers were casually reading books or lounging with a laptop in this mismatching dusty concrete interior. I also consistently observed staff chatting about limited supplies (ex: no more mocha; lacking black napkins; missing ingredients). Overall, TRO Coffee offers extremely friendly service. This place is inviting... but it's important to note that the menu is limited to small batch coffee beans, coffee drinks, tea, and pastries. Once items run out - that's it. That being said, the vibe is very chill and in many respects smacks of co-op workspace - which is how the rest of the building appears to be used. That said, we each got a pastry, myself a cappuccino (very good!), and my daughter a hot cocoa (also good!). I would have hoped for my jalapeño biscuit to be warmed - not sure if that was available, and I didn't ask. TRO is debatably my favorite latte (usually hot but also their iced!) around. Their coffee beans have a unique flavor that makes the drinks extra enjoyable. The flavor is full, smooth, and that extra, subtle flavor that really draws me in! The pastries are delicious. Also a plus. The coffee shop is co-op, alongside a workspace hub. So the space is very open, with various seating available and it's fairly quiet, because they also do not play music. This makes for a wonderful spot to converse. The baristas are all wonderful. Quiet, but welcoming, and focus on every single drink they craft, just one at a time. Which is the best news for the flavor, presentation and energy for your drink. But don't stop here thinking it's a drive thru, it's where you stop, wait patiently for your delicious drink and stay and converse with some of your favorite people. It's a quality time type environment, which I rather enjoy. That's how coffee should be had, with time, mindful, and great company and conversation. TRO Coffee is great because it is inside a public office space. This space is open to the public to do work at. TRO itself is small and has a few coffee and food options. The barista working there was great! She was super sweet and very knowledgeable about the drink offerings. She was helpful, chipper, and sweet. She made sure to make recommendations for delicious coffee and tea which the customers appreciated. As I worked, she interacted so well with each and every person that came in. I got there at 8am and left by 10am. Like any coffee shop they have regular and decaf espresso available for their lattes. I absolutely love how they have a separate menu of sweetener/flavoring and dairy options. I got the pumpkin spiced latte which honestly did not taste very pumpkiny or spiced? I was a little confused because it tasted like your average vanilla latte. I met up with a coworker here for work since we try to connect in person once or twice a month while working remotely. We chose this coffee shop as a halfway point. I stopped by in the late afternoon a couple of days ago. The parking here is a bit limited. They were also out of most of their milk alternatives but had a wide selection of syrups! I opted for an iced vanilla latte with macadamia nut milk. The barista recommended the drink iced for this type of milk. The ice cubes were on the large side, which was cool and different. The latte was good. It gave me the energy to power through the last hours of work and energy to work on a project. It may have also kept me up longer than expected, but that's what happens to me when I have coffee or tea late in the day. LOL. The inside of the shop is big. #2 in my SOCAL COFFEE SHOP SERIES I have been super excited to try this place! I've heard so many great things about them and think it is amazing that they are their own coffee roaster. If you enjoy their espresso so much, you can purchase their very own beans for yourself! Their graphic designs for their merch and bean bags are so cool. I loved the aesthetic and vibes for this place, very industrial. Their shop is connected to/apart of the Union Cowork so there are a lot of people that walk in and out. Since it is connected to this space, they offer only one free hour of complimentary wifi. A bust if you're trying to get studying or work done for more than an hour. Now let's get into the coffee. I got a classic vanilla latte w/ oat milk ($6). And let me tell you, their vanilla syrup is soo good! All of their syrups are homemade, plus their dairy free alternatives don't cost extra. As for the espresso in the latte, I personally wish it was deeper and stronger. It tasted like I was only drinking vanilla oat milk. Their menu is very small, but contains all the classic coffee shop drinks (cold brew, espresso, matcha, latte, etc.). They also have a small selection of pastries to choose from, but they are bomb! I didn't even see drip on offer. We ordered an iced matcha that was splashed with way too much oat milk, and a 'spro tonic, an espresso tonic that tasted very sour. My sister took a sip of the latter and the first word she blurted out was "rancid." She wasn't wrong. The interior space has the potential to be boho chic and enough room for more attractive seating, but instead it felt drab and barren. They could use a pop of color and plants! I came here with my girl because the review was so good! As a person with South East Asia background, I was hoping they have more of exotic coffee beans, but they only offer Guatemalan and Ethiopian. I think they mislead me with their name by using 'Orangutan' because that exotic animal is from Indonesia, and that country carries a lot of good coffee beans. I was hoping they carry Sumatran beans or other stuff, but they only carry regular ones... The taste of both drinks (house brew and latte) are so-so. I received a gift card for this place and decided to stop by with my husband and our little girl dog. We came in a little after 3 pm. We were greeted by a friendly employee behind the counter. After looking over the menu, we ended up ordering: Iced Chai Latte, $5- To be honest, when I walked over to pick up my drink when it was ready, I was disappointed to see so much ice in the cup and so little chai tea. You would probably get more chai tea if you ordered this drink hot. The chai tea itself was too sweet and the seasonings just overpowered each other. It really wasn't a nice balance of flavors and would not recommend ordering this. Cappuccino, $4 + Vanilla Flavor, $1- My husband decided to order this and just like with my drink, he thought it was rather meh. He didn't think it tasted that grade and seemed a bit pricey for what it was. -------------------------- (Total= $10) I really had high hopes for this place since it was so highly rated on Yelp (Overall rating of 4.5 stars at the time of this review, in the addition to their location in Claremont also being highly rated). After this coffee adventure, I tasted the reason why they named this coffeehouse TRO. I started off with their seasonal dark maple and brown sugar latte. It's a delicious blend of maple syrup, brown sugar, clove and cinnamon with a touch of vanilla. After my first sip my lips tingled with excitement! My drink was a perfect balance of coffee and sweet flavoring and it was served in a mug just I like it! Upon request may I add. So before leaving the spot I ordered their dark and stormy which also had a perfect blend of sweet flavor and espresso. The flavor was ginger beer and it paired very well with the tonic like espresso but it only comes iced which was cool with me. The vibe is very chill and it's a perfect place to work at without any distractions. The service was on point and I was given some interesting recommendations which I'm going to explore soon. Parking - can be a bit hard depending on how busy the building is. 3. Coffee - on point and you can tell its made with a bit of love and care. The barista chatted me up and you could tell the dude really wants to know about his customers and get to know them. Additionally, he's super open and jovial.
