Trophy Room is almost always our first meal when we visit Boyne. We've tried other pizza spots but keep coming back. Although there is seating inside it's typically packed during ski season so we place a to go order and head up to the Snowflake lounge, grab a drink and wait. We always order the cheese bread (so good) and a greek salad. The salad is full of toppings and easily big enough to share. For pizza we mix it up, but my personal favorite is the Superbowl. Three words: Gluten. Free. Pizza! Pre-GF days, I always passed this place by, because it doesn't look like much from the sidewalk, but the flyer in our hotel room said they were serving gluten free pizza, so that warranted a closer look. I had always incorrectly assumed that this place was pickup-only, with a kitchen and a cash register, but if you dare to venture inside, there is ample seating, a bar, TVs tuned to sports, and lots of Boyne Mountain historical photos on the wall. A very comfortable place to rest after your legs have turned to rubber from skiing all day. If they're not rubbery enough yet, why not a pitcher of beer? This was the first time I got brave enough to try pizza since going gluten free. Yeah, I can get frozen GF pizza from Costco, but the list of ingredients scares me, because of all the other things I'm not supposed to have. So this pizza from Trophy Room isn't exactly on my diet, either, but I decided that it's OK to be less than perfect once in a while, and the Trophy Room pizza definitely hit the spot and made me feel a bit more "normal," whatever that is. The 8-slice GF version is considered a small pizza there, which is enough to feed two with or without a side salad. The crust is thin and a little crumbly, which is normal for GF bread. The toppings are finely chopped so that they don't cause your delicate little pizza slices to crumble before they can reach your pizza-starved lips. The waiter was very careful to listen to my order when he realized that I had a special diet. Kudos to him for that. We had a nice chat with a four year old girl who was seated with her brother and parents at the adjoining table, coloring on the placemat with crayons. "I'm not a baby any more. I'm four years old." She also intimated to us that "My mom lives here." Actually, she works there as a waiter, but it must seem like she lives elsewhere when you're that young and waiting for your mom to come home. It's a resort, so yeah, suck it up and pay $200 for pizzas and beer for a group of 5... it was fun and relaxing but I certainly didn't understand the lure. I'd never go back if it were just a local place in my hometown, even if it were cheaper. I'd only visit again to overspend on vacation and keep my buddy happy. He said 'we use tongs' and grabbed a few for me. He wasn't rude but you could tell he wasn't thrilled that I would have helped myself. I get that. No problem. 3 paces from the bar I was scolded like a child would be for throwing fruit punch at moms white Sunday dress. "You can't just stick your hands in the tray and help yourself. We have health codes". I told her that the chef actually got the lemons. Instead of letting it go, Linda Honey fought with me. "Well the bartender is upset. We can't have you reaching over the bar and helping yourself". Again I told her that I didn't touch the lemons. If your bored reading this, as I'm sure you are - imagine living it. I just wanted a few lemons to complete my freaking order. Oh, it went on and on. Linda Honey and I went at it. Now the bartender is pointing to me and telling the bar guests about the great lemon scandal. She wasn't giving in. It was a big deal apparently. My final response "Linda, I owned two restaurants, I get your concern over the lemons that I almost touched but is that our biggest concern? Was the pre-teen SITTING AT THE BAR earlier not a bigger concern? Was the bartenders over-pouring not a bigger concern? The bugs and old food on floor not a bigger concern?". I'm getting angry just writing this. Read my reviews please. I'm not a sharp tongue attack dog but I waited to check-out before writing this as I felt there would be some form of revenge from the two pit bulls here. Don't need people spitting in my food or sending goons to my room. It was that hostile. We spend $3k every two years at Grand Mountain. Well we used to. The woman behind the counter was not friendly at all. The draft beer tasted like crap...like some of the worst draft beer I've ever had in my life. The good news for the Trophy Room is that it is one of the only places you can go for a drink at Boyne Mountain. That's bad news for the rest of us. Staying at the Boyne Grand and figured some room service would be nice and Trophy Room being part of the complex seemed to make sense. We ordered the Four Seasons pizza with italian sausage well done (which I think is always a necessity as too may place undercook pizzas) We were definitely surprised that the artichokes and mushrooms were very flavorfull and prosciutto and italian sausage were both decent quality. Horrible. I'd give it zero stars. Was this made days ago, put in a freezer, then warmed up?????? Not too many choices in Boyne at all but from now on I'd rather have a bowl of cereal or a sandwich!!! Chewy, no flavor AT ALL ham was rough, hard and I still cannot believe how bad this pizza was. Breadsticks sat in pure tasteless oil. Someone needs to teach these people how to make dough.
