Tropical Smoothie Cafe recently opened near CCSU. They serve smoothies, sandwiches, etc. The inside is clean and modern. There are a few tables. My son and I were nearby and decided to stop for Smoothies. He also ordered a Kids Classic Grilled Cheese. I ordered the Blimey Limey, which has strawberry, pineapple, lime and orange juice according to the menu. It was huge and cost $6.99. As my wise friend Alicia noted in her review, smaller size options would be nice because I will probably never drink that much smoothie. I'd rather pay less and get less. I didn't see them make the Smoothies or add the ingredients, but it didn't have the flavor or texture my smoothies have when I make smoothies from fresh fruit at home. It tasted good. Sweet and acidic. I just don't know how healthy it was. I had a bite of my son's grilled cheese. He liked it and I thought it was pretty good for a place I picked for smoothies. 3.5 Stars

Stopped in to give it a try and everything was still new . Staff was very friendly, menu looks great! Paninis, salads. Sandwiches and smoothies! I ordered a smoothie and ohh man! That thing was huge! Only comes in 1 size, payed almost 9.00 for it ( ordered a PB and banana shake with no Protein) but it was like a slushy instead of like smoothie and it just didn't taste like fresh fruits in there! Tasted processed to me and not made out of fresh ingredients. I honestly didn't pay attention how it was made but I just wasnt too happy. A small or medium is filling and that large was HUGE!! And I just didn't like the taste. Maybe I'll stick to a salad next time?? Maybe if they had small drink Size snd trying something else?! I'm Willing to give them Another shot and Try something else. Just wasnt happy as a 1st timer with my smoothy .

Tropical Smoothie has vibrant, fresh vibes with every sip. Their fruity blends are a killer pick-me-up. Definitely a go-to spot for a chill treat!

Staff was SUPER helpful! At 32 weeks pregnant I went in knowing I wanted something with watermelon but the menu was just too intriguing to decide! I ended up walking out with a Watermelon smoothie (it also had mint and i believe lime -- it was super yummy but unfortunately just a summer menu item) and the Chia Oatmeal Pudding Bowl which was MIND BLOWING!! I was satisfied, refreshed, and hydrated. The service alone made me a customer that's going to come back for sure!

Yesterday I stopped by Tropical Smoothie Cafe, it's just a short drive away from CCSU. It was filled with college students, even on a Sunday. The inside has some bar stools, and some regular chairs and tables. It is very clean, vibrant and inviting inside. The menu is large, I had to let a few people go in front of me in line, while I made my selection. They have smoothies of course, flatbreads, wraps, sandwiches and salads. I think they should add açaí bowls to the menu. I decided to go with the Island Green smoothie. This is a blend of spinach, kale, mango, pineapple & banana. Or they'd like us to think that.. I never saw a single fresh fruit. I saw them scoop powder. My smoothie was massive, this must've been 20 ounces. I paid $7.99. I'll have to agree with some of my friends who've already reviewed Tropical Smoothie Cafe, that less smoothie for a lesser cost would have been a nice option. There are no size options. This was a tasty smoothie. The banana was the most prominent, then the mango and kale. It was bright green. It stayed cold and fresh in my car, while I ran some errands. I might come back, if they had smaller size options of smoothies. Also seeing some actual fresh fruit, would be beneficial for everyone.

I grew up with tropical smoothie in the Midwest, so I'm happy we finally got one right down the street in Newington. It's your typical fast casual smoothie/ sandwich & salad spot. Decent sized menu with good prices. I got two smoothies and a sandwich for 23 dollars. I like the option of adding a smoothie to your meal. The drinks were huge!! You for sure get your monies worth and beyond. In my opinion, it's definitely worth checking out.

Island green smoothies were fantastic! In addition, the best part of the visit was how friendly the staff was and how accommodating they were to their customers' needs. We will be back!

Tropical Smoothie Cafe is great! As soon as I walked in, this establishment took me right to island vibes. The decor and colors were so bright and cheerful. There were orange stools all along a bar top and turquoise chairs and table sets on the other side with fun artwork on the walls. I received a coupon from a flyer, so I decided to come check this place out, and I'm glad i did. There were options of flatbreads, wraps, sandwiches, and salad bowls. I decided on the chicken bacon ranch flatbread that had chicken, bacon, lettuce, tomato, cheddar cheese, and ranch sauce. It was yummy. The meal came with a side, and the options included chips, a kale salad, or a choice of fruit. My coupon also included a 24ounce Smoothie. There were so many options, but I got the chocolate peanut butter and banana one. Everything was fresh and tasty. This place was super clean and the staff was friendly. I enjoyed my visit and will come back to try the breakfast options they offer.

Great place after the gym. Added strawberry to their peanut butter combo with whey protein. $10 gets you a large/extra-large shake.

It's not trying too hard, and that's exactly why it works. Feels like a spot where regulars post up, sip coffee, and take their time. No rush, no nonsense, ust good energy. And then the sandwich shows up... and flips the script. This isn't breakfast. This is a stacked, unapologetic morning statement. The Overloaded Egg Sando Griddled brioche bun, soft, buttery, just enough toast to hold things together (barely). Under that, a crispy hash brown doing the heavy lifting, adding crunch and soaking up all the goodness. Sausage brings that savory backbone, while the spinach scrambled eggs stay fluffy and rich. Then you get that creamy hit from the smashed avocado, melted smoked gouda layering in a subtle smokiness, and finally... the gochujang aioli. That aioli is the move. Sweet heat, a little funk, a little tang, cuts right through the richness and keeps every bite from getting too heavy. And let's be honest... Had to unhinge my jaw like a snake just to take the first bite. This thing is messy, stacked, and fully committed to the cause. Not first-date food. Not "eat it in the car" food. This is sit-down, take-a-minute, maybe-need-a-nap-after kind of food. The best part? The space balances it perfectly. Big, bold sandwich... calm, easygoing room. That's a combo I'll go back for every time.

They have plenty of seating, some upholstered furniture and we saw a few Friday morning telecommuters working on their laptops and sipping their coffees. Our order was a Chai Latte and a Cold Brew - each was $5. The pours were very large, and I swear that my cold brew was the very best I've ever had. I love coffee, drinking it hot or cold, and what I had here is in my all-time Top Five Percent. It was that good. I had a sip of my wife's Chai Latte and thought it was excellent as well. What really impressed me were the flavors of both drinks- not overpowering, but strong enough to appreciate them. The Coffee Guy has it all - specialty coffees, matcha, chai, espresso drinks, and pastries and sweet treats to pair with your coffee cup. We couldn't resist grabbing a few on our way out, and we took home a box with a Spinach croissant, iced blueberry scone, and a cruffin (croissant/muffin hybrid). We loved our visit to the Coffee Guy, and I was so impressed by the total experience, I just subscribed to their newsletter. So the next time we're looking for a midday break or afternoon pick-me-up..... I know a guy!

One of my friends asked me (quite earnestly) if I had ever been to the Community Room Cafe for breakfast because "it's really great". Well, we went there today and I sincerely want to thank that unknown Yelper because the Community Room Café is excellent. We found it in the Constitution Square retail area bounded by Cedar St., E. Main St., Market Sq and Lowrey Place in the center of Newington, CT. Parking is plentiful in the Square's large parking lot. Their space is amazing -big, cheerful, inviting, comfortable, colorful (plenty of orange and black). There are plenty of various seating options in the form of couches, upholstered chairs, table/chair groupings, and counter-style seats by the windows. We saw a few medium sized groups gabbing away at the upholstered seat area and a few industrious folks clattering away on their laptops. We each went with an Avocado Toast (@ $9) with mashed avocado, diced egg, diced tomato, bacon crumbles, cilantro, and Everything bagel seasoning blanketing a big slice of toasted rye. Seriously, one of the best breakfasts we had this year. I went with a small cold brew coffee and a shot of sugar-free caramel ($4.25) while my wife went with a small light roast coffee ($3). We loved everything about the Community Room Café- the food, the vibe, the décor, the service.... Everything. PRO TIPS Their WIFI password is (one word all CAPS) ILOVEMY COFFEE They have a meeting room available to rent for $50/hour during business hours and $100/hour during non-business hours.
