My receipt of what I ordered and when I ordered it.

Wish I could leave zero stars. This place messed up my door dash order then when I called, the Girl who answered named Olivia said they would replace it. Now here it is 2 weeks later and the lady working says they will not honor it since they don't have the receipt. I ordered door dash and still have the receipt. Then she said it was too long ago to replace it. Well I attached a pic of my receipt dated 2 weeks ago, and a pic of one of the wraps they sent me. Whoever the owners are of this place need to get better people working customer service. I literally order from this place constantly and I will NEVER order from here again. I wasn't even asking for a refund. All I wanted was it replaced. I wanted 2 chipotle chicken flat bread and got 2 Thai chicken wrap. I guess it's worth losing a regular customer then replacing 2 6$ flat bread a. Way to go tropical smoothie cafe!

My husband and I went here for a quick meal and smoothie. Ordered a chicken wrap to share and two smoothies. Half way threw the wrap I bite in to the wrap and this long black hair gets caught in my teeth. So discussing I was very upset. We approached the front counter and I told and showed the lady what was in my food. I asked her for a refund, she said sorry I can't refund you I can only remake it. I was not happy! Excuse me but if you found a huge black hair in your food would you want to eat after that? My stomach turned. I asked again can I please just have a refund? She refused. NONE of the lady's where wearing hair nets! All have very long hair. I work in a bakery and there is not a chance of anyone stepping in the bakery with out a hair net. This is definitely against health food violations.

You guys. I loved tropical smoothie. My go to smoothie place. But when I was sipping on my fav. cool beverage and this came up the straw I was definitely mortified. It's an earring or part of a necklace or something. The fact that that was in my mouth makes me want to vomit rip out my insides and bathe them in bleach. That's like using dirty instruments in the medical field. Anyways. I encourage anyone and everyone to avoid this location. On top of everything the manager tried to blame the 3rd party driver. Classy.

    Shoes on the counter. Nice.

We got a smoothie there yesterday that tasted like Tuna. When we called they offered to comp us 2 new, free smoothies. Those also tasted like tuna. We go here often enough that I'm not scared away, yet. Their customer service has been pretty bad in the past but they just started hiring new people so it has gone up. However one of their senior employees, Shelby, seems to have a problem finding a place to sit.

I have been to Tropical Smoothie Cafe a few times. They have smoothie choices aplenty, some of which include green veggies, and they have all sorts of add-ins like probiotics and vitamins. It is very similar to Jamba Juice except minus the wheatgrass shots and with a bunch of different wraps and sandwiches. My one qualm on the smoothies is that it is a one-size-fits-all type joint and I would prefer a smoothie that is half the size. Still not bad at about $5 a smoothie. Blue Lagoon Smoothie (blueberry-strawberry-banana): tastes great but the seeds get stuck in your teeth. Peanut Paradise Smoothie (peanut butter-banana-yogurt-protein powder): so far my favorite, but I am not a fan of processed soy/whey protein powder so I sadly don't order this anymore unless I'm feeling naughty. I've had a few other smoothies but I can't remember which ones. It's hard to mess up or go wrong with any smoothie choice, amirite? I've had the Turkey-Bacon-Ranch sandwich and it was good. I'd like to try some of their other wraps, but I normally just grab a smoothie to go. The King Caesar and Hummus Veggie wraps look promising. I wish they had normal whole yogurt as a choice between non-fat, and I wish their fruits were grown organically. I can dream, can't I?

The kind of place where you expect someone to be editing a documentary on a laptop made of recycled aluminum. Late afternoon visit, so the hipster crowd had clearly skateboarded back to their respective creative labs. I had the place to myself. Prime auditing conditions. First impression? This place is built for volume. You can tell. Efficient layout. Assembly-line potential. If bowls were a factory sport, this would be a playoff team. Ordered the Home Grown. Took a quick bathroom break. Came back and -- boom -- bowl was already on the counter. FAST. And it looked elite. Then I saw it. A generous dollop of peanut butter at the top, sprinkled with hemp seeds. I almost got emotional. It felt like flying over your hometown after months away. Familiar. Safe. Right. First bite? Delicious. Smooth. Creamy. Almost like frozen yogurt or soft serve. Easy eating. Crowd-pleasing texture. And then... I looked up. Another bowl was being made. The açaí base was coming out of a soft-serve machine. As a purist, this one hurt. I want hand-scooped. Blender-blade symphony. Crafted, not dispensed. I had a small internal crisis. But here's the problem: I really enjoyed it. So now I'm torn between my values and my taste buds. Would I go back? Yes. Would I wrestle internally again? Also yes. Rating 3.8 / 5 Açaí Berries Breakdown * Taste: 4.3/5 * Ingredients: 4/5 * Consistency: 4.5/5 * Purist Pain Factor: High * Speed: 5/5 Current Status: Machine-Made But Memorable Lesson Learned: Sometimes the machine wins. So when I was back in Portland, I knew I had to come again. It does get pretty busy, but i only waited about 10-15 minutes. They have outdoor seating and a cute pickup window for to-go orders, but I definitely prefer sitting inside for the full experience. I ordered an iced matcha latte sweetened with honey, which was really good. For food, I got the avocado toast with two poached eggs and it was LOADED. The avocado comes in bigger chunks, the creamy spread was delicious, and the corn added the perfect little touch of sweetness. All the flavors worked so well together. I also got a side of hash, which was a pretty generous portion. It needed a little salt for me, but they have salt and pepper right on the table, so easy fix. Little tip: ASK FOR THEIR GREEN HOT SAUCE. OMG. So much flavor! It's not overly spicy, just the perfect kick, and it made everything even better. I actually asked if they sold bottles because I would've taken a few home with me, but sadly they don't. They also have a selection of baked goods that looked great, so that's on my list for next time. Service was quick and everyone was friendly. Years later and Proud Mary is still just as good as I remembered. Definitely one of my Portland favorites!

Ya know, it's weird that this has been in my drafts for forever. But I like this place. I like that…read morethey were down with the açaí bowl situation before it was cool (or at least, before it became de rigeur and/or spread to the damp and drippy PNW). I started chowing down on smoothie bowls in sunny southern California and the majorest of major metros like Manhattan, and it seems like it took forever for the "trend" to spread to our rainy neck of the woods. One could certainly get wheatgrass shots every which where, but smoothie bowls, not so much. ANYWAY, Carioca Bowls was leading the vanguard of delish and genuine açaí bowls in PDX long before it was an expected food variety in all hippie-ish towns in the US. Their bowls meet my exacting ingredient standards: Now that smoothie bowls have gone mainstream, many are just lightly disguised dessert with "health food" marketing: Hidden sweeteners and grody additives pushed on the unsuspecting hoi polloi ruin it for people who don't do their homework. But not Carioca Bowls: You can ACTUALLY get an unsweetened açaí bowl if that's your jam (it's mine: If I wanted dessert, I'd get a cupcake), and they don't drown the top in honey (honey has its place, and that place is far away from me), and drink in the extremely second-wave granola vibes while you're at it. Third-wave hippie food, like third-wave coffee shops, have suffered a loss of soul: Minimalist design, LED lighting, and cookie-cutter staff with vaseline smiles beckoning "welcome in!" with vacant looks in their eyes have sapped a lot of the joy from the spaces serving hippie food and matcha tea. Carioca Bowls remains a comfortingly messy, quirky callback to sincerity: Murals, houseplants, low lighting, a big messy garden-y space outdoors for sitting and chowing, organic unfussy aesthetics that make the whole scene just feel welcoming and comfy. You can eat your bowl here and not feel like you're a nuisance to the staff, or like there's a glaring spotlight on you (unlike SOME smoothie/juice/bowl places I could mention). Nary a whiff of extruded white plastic ANYWHERE in this place. It makes me feel at home, the way a wheatgrass-sniffin', long-hair-havin', big-hug-givin' hippie should feel. When I walk through the door, I feel RELAXED, ya know what I mean? Anyway, give it a try - this isn't my 'hood but I will still occasionally make a pilgrimage just to get a bowl and drink in the vibes. So if I were writing a Michelin guide (buy those tires!) I suppose I'd give this at least a star, as it's worth a special trip (IF you're into what I've described here - it's highly specific, but it's MY vibe). Anyway, long live Carioca Bowls!
