We'll it's 7:30 and went in for a fun dinner with my family. But we weren't able to be seated because half the restaurant was closed so the teenagers working could clean it so they could leave as soon as possible (straight from the teenager at the register the last time we went at 8:00). So instead we just ordered ice cream. Not sure if they know how to make an ice cream cone. Cone was cracked and chocolate dip only covered half of the ice cream. They didn't seem to care when I said something just shrugged and walked away. We have been coming to this particular DQ for over 40 years. Sadly it will be the last time. If I could give them a 0 I would. First, no ice cream? Then when at the window, I commented on the sign they had on the door. The response I got back was flippant and rude! The exterior is unassuming, but this is the most charming DQ I've seen. It's a walk-in location with tables to eat in, unlike the franchises I grew up with where a bunch of kids would be hanging out in the parking lot at night while possible crack deals went down a few spaces away. While those memories are fond, I was surprised at how homey this location felt inside. Adding to that feeling were the kind and speedy people behind the counter. Next to the counter is a freezer of ice cream cakes and some boxes of Dilly Bars and the like. Also, this location has cherry dip, which implies that it is grandfathered into an old contract allowing it to sell historic offerings. read more

It used to compete for 1st place with the one on Main Street and 30th but that one fizzled over a decade ago after a change of ownership or something. If you want true DQ this is the place. I watched my to go order sit on the shelf and then the other orders came up 10 minutes later. Server took everyone their food and then only after I said something he got my order I was there for 30 minutes and it hadn't got busy until after I ordered so why did I have to wait so long for cold food? read more

Been going to this DQ just because the others are so unkempt, dirty food establishments are a real turnoff for the average customer, and I'm a bit more picky than most so I really enjoy that aspect of this place. The food is what I'd expect from a fast food joint, good ice cream and fries, had a few burgers here and they were very tasty as well. Like a lot of people I want to get the value for my money, DQ has that menu value but only if the restaurant is clean and ran in an orderly fashion. Keep up the great work guys... read more

This DQ is by far the best DQ around when it comes to their food. We were across town and needed a burger. Stopped in at the DQ on Fourth Plain. OMGoodness. We asked for grilled onions and were told, "We can't grill the onions". What? Your entire store is a grill. The DQ on MacArthur always gives you your food the way you ask, and it's GREAT. read more

Terrible service. I wish I could review the food, but I have yet to get an order right from them. This location messed up 3 orders in a row during the course of 2 weeks. When I call to say something, I get an inbred idiot who puts me on hold for 20 minutes. The solution to them, drive all of the way back and they'll give me the right order. Here's a novel idea; GET IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME.. Then I get an email from corporate stating that I should have been called by the franchisee. Guess again. I drove here today specifically to purchase a gift card. Although there was a stack of gift cards next to the register, neither of the two employees knew how to issue me one, apparently due to new computer systems. When I asked if there was any way solve this problem they apologized and informed me that no, there was no way to issue a gift card. What was most disappointing about this is the employees did not even attempt to solve the problem within the system, they simply denied my request, stating they didn't know how to accomplish it. read more

Ah, so glad I finally can rewrite my review. I said I'd never return, but had a craving for a blizzard. A pregnancy craving for a blizzard, only from the MacArthur location. I'm so glad I did, we visited again this weekend and were so amazingly impressed with the improvements made. There aren't (or wasn't this weekend) so many high schoolers running the business with their snobby attitudes, place was nice and cleaned up and even the menus had been beautifully updated. This isn't your normal DQ - that's for sure. That's a good thing. Positives - The owner runs a tight ship. The young staff are focused, quick, and the place is clean. Operationally, well done. Burgers - awesome. Particularly the 'homestyle'. Burgerville should send some of the brain trust over and observe how to execute hamburgers. Freakin' delicious. These do not taste like other DQs. This is really a great, independent, burger joint that happens to have DQ ice cream. Negatives - One time, I ordered some tater tots (heck yeah!). It came in the DQ paper box-thingy. It was half full. I went to the counter gal and said 'Hey, it's half full'. She looked into my box and said, 'Yeah, you get 12'. 12? So, I said, 'Can I pay extra get the larger size then?'. She said, 'Sure, you get 16 in that one'. Potatoes are cheap. It was like portion-control on crack. That needs fixing. Looking for old school drive in food that actually tastes good? This is one very well run Dairy Queen. The fries are the best out of every Dairy Queen I have ever had. The service is good, the location is clean and well kept. The food is always good quality and fresh. The only issue I have is over the years the chicken strips keep getting smaller and smaller. I do appreciate that if you get really small ones, they will often give you two strips that count as one, but on the average basis, the strips need size improvements. I am still giving 5 stars though as I know this is an issue primarily through the DQ distribution/ food sources. read more

This is actually a 4 and a half star review, and if it had a drive-thru, it would definitely be a 5 star DQ. The foods here are great, the desserts are wonderful, the dipped cones are dipped thickly, and they are willing to double-dip it if you ask. They now have Orange Julius in the mix, and between the amazing service, delicious food and desserts, and the old-school decor and feel, it's a good one. I have been here twice. Second time today. Food is fresh, can get made to order. People are wonderfully friendly. Prices are good and much better than Burgerville. The food tastes better too. So angry that I waited almost a week to do this! We went in at 4:30 ish and ordered the $ ] 5lunchbox special. It was the first time ordering food at a DQ in a long long time so I was kinda excited to be able to "try it" again without dropping a ton of money. As we're ordering drinks... A woman came up behind [the young] lady that was taking our order, and WHISPERED in her ear, than took a step back and watched. The look on her face as she, (lady on the register)... paused a minute than looks down and says.."It ends at 4(pm) now, it started this month. I'm sorry I forgot". OK... it's 20+days in and you forgot the lunch special terms? (OK fine, maybe she hadn't worked this shift all month, THATS where the "boss" should have just ate the "loss" and saved the drama! Whispering in front of a customer w/o saying excuse me to the customer. Telling a customer that they can't get what they ordered after its rung up (my opinion As a retired Customer Service Professional).The cash loss for losing a customer, vs, losing $2 that moment seems like a poor choice, especially seeing as you also corrected and embarrassed your cashier in front of customers as well (AND made the customers uncomfortable at the same time!). Just a poor choice... Followed by a smile that said "I'm right! You're wrong!" We just left, no one wants this kind of drama when they're trying to run in and run out! Whenever my family and I walk into this location at least one of the employees gives us an irritated " I can't believe you all just walked in here look". Another place of my childhood. In my search for a replacement for the McArthur DQ I have found none. This DQ is unlike any I have ever been to. If you eat in you will be served on actual dishes and their grilled cheese sandwiches are the best. Scott (the owner) does a great job and is always helpful as is the rest of the staff.
