I purchased an unlimited tan package with automatic payments from my bank card, and when I asked them to stop the automatic payments, I asked what day I was paid up to to be able to use the remainder of the package. I was told that it was cancelled right away and you can't use the rest of it. Why not? If it's already paid for the full 30 days, why take money from your customers and not provide the service? Grayslake definitely needs to open a better Tanning Salon. I don't know what they hire the front desk girls, based on. I have bought two memberships there in the last year, and after this last one, NEVER again. I didn't even finish my month tanning, i just did not go. The front desk girl asks for my name, I have to spell it out. I have been told twice, "are you buying a package today?" ah- no, I just bought one two days ago. She asks my name again, has me spell it out, tells me im under a different name, or not in the system at all! Its ALWAYS a waste of time, me just walking in and TRYING to tell them my name. Another time, walked in, 'hi, name?' I tell them, spelling it out. "Is this your first time here?" GEEZUS! are you kidding me?! you can see my frustration now can you not? I do NOT have some rare unique off the chart first name or last. These girls are bimbos, and not friendly. I HATE going to Tropical Tan in grayslake because its just so frustrating the minute you walk in when that should be the easiest part!!! I totally paid for a full month, level 5 and used it probably 14 days. Thats it. Never again. They act like they are high, just woke up, ignorant, no professional skills, or just do not care. Very nice beds, clean friendly staff but not all are very knowledgeable about skin types or products. Make sure to do your homework about what your looking for because you get no information about packages or products unless you ask exactly about what you want. The owners are friendly but also give limited information and often seem too busy to acknowledge your questions or concerns and if your lucky enough to get an answer or response it's usually very short and not personable, almost robotic, no feelings which leaves you apologizing and not knowing why you feel like you offended them when in reality after thinking about your question or concern and how it was handled it is them who should apologize to you. In the end the facility itself is a great place for a quick tan but don't expect too much in the way of customer service. read more

So let me start with the good. It's clean and close. The check~in staff are friendly and efficient. Now the challenge. If something is wrong and a manager or owner challenges a customer, it's disrespectful. They have a Wednesday deal that is a 15 day term. Naturally, the average person follows this as 2 weeks and a day. When I showed up on the 15th day to use up my last tan I was told it had expired the day before. (2 weeks from when issued). Rather than realizing that the wording would be better clarified by simply stating 2 weeks I stood there as he preceded to count out 15 days on his computer. Cmon, good customer service goes to the customer and not shrugging your shoulders looking away. # Update to review.. Received comments from the manager/owner. To clarify, not only was the duration not explained at the time of purchase as you claim, I also inquired on Tuesday how many services were left and said I would be back Thursday to use up. Naturally, there was confusion and a common courtesy would have been to explain to your customer and extend a one time allowance. To take a negative stance as you did and then comment back to me that I am being ridiculous and would be better to take my services elsewhere just reinforces my decision to take my business elsewhere. Good luck with your business.. Yes that is the same sarcasm you afforded me. #2, As a Grayslake resident I can only express disappointment in how you represent your business. You could have approached me with a smile and a simple question of how can I help. Instead you immediately went into defensive mode and gave an I don't give a crap attitude. I never attempted to take advantage but simply questioned your wording as it wasn't clear to me. I would caution of using the word bullying with your customers in a public forum. As a consumer I have a right to question a purchase and there was no disrespect or bullying to you or your staff. I've gone to Tropical tan a couple of times and first of all the staff is so kind and helpful just that alone is worth coming back for! The beds are clean and state of the art, you can plug your phone in listen to music, they have a good selection of tanning supplies and they also all kind of goodies in the room to make your experience that much better. This place is a rip off. I had a monthly membership & I cancelled it the day after I was billed so I wouldn't get charged for another month. The day you cancel your membership is the day your tanning ends, so essentially you pay a full month of fees for nothing, absolute bull crap. Not to mention the girls don't educate customers on the tanning levels whatsoever and would rather sell a higher level for more money than genuinely help the customer achieve the desired Tan. I also have a friend who worked here for around a week & she said that the two week packages you buy only last for a week and a half before they expire instead of two weeks so that customers will be forced to buy more when their package expires. I would consider going somewhere else before they get shut down after I report them to the Better Business Bureau for scamming customers. read more

Always clean, friendly staff and great Versa Spa spray tans! Checking in is quick and easy (you use your finger print) and I have never had to wait too long for a bed. Recently new to spray tans, I was skeptical. However their Versa Spa has always led to great results! Just purchased a membership package last month. Did the level 3 package since you advertise everywhere you get a free upgrade with Facebook checkin. Was told yesterday by a not so friendly girl that I was not able to do that anymore since I deleted 2 previous Facebook check ins. I wasn't aware (since I wasn't told) I was supposed to keep them on there forever, I usually delete all check ins after I leave the place I was at. Tonight I asked a different girl if I did something wrong, why wasn't I told after the first time so I would know not to do it again?? She said they just don't do that and it's just common sense not to delete the check in. Um okay... I asked to speak to a manager she said no, that she would just tell me the same thing. Okay. So I had no choice but to upgrade and then figure out they don't have stand up level 4 beds lol. Hopefully the owner can provide a better solution since I had no success in the establishment. I love this place, definitely my go to place for tanning. They definitely have outstanding promotions all the time which really makes me coming back! The only reason for the 4 star rating is because there just isn't enough beds for the amount of clients and traffic they have. Level 5 is my go to bed and there is ALWAYS a wait for it. I recently went into Tropical Tan. I have not tanned in many years so I would consider myself a "newbie" at this. The assistant was very helpful and explained the packages to me. It is a clean facility with new beds. The vibe is relaxing and when I went, you could pretty much walk in and out without a wait. Tropical tan palatine-you did it again! First off, your store is always so clean and you guys follow such straight health codes which is most important to me. There's never a dirty spot on any bed, the floors, bathrooms, shelves, everything is always spotless! Your staff is always friendly and helpful.. Their trained so professionally to know their products and bed info. They always ask about eye wear (and I've personally seen someone give them attitude when asked but for me personally, I think it's great that they're keeping their guest as safe as possible under the UV lights) and lotions. Your specials are probably the best specials in this business or any really. There's always so many gimmicks and false advertising when it comes to specials, but yours are truly just to benefit your guests. Your beds are insane, your spray is so natural, and your lotions are always top of the line. I've sent many friends to your salon and they all rave about how great it is. The management and owner are the hardest working people and so many people just open a store and never walk in again, but Joze & Melissa are always working at one of the stores and always get to know their guests and make them feel AT HOME. If you haven't yet walked up to them and introduced yourself, you should next time bc they are such humble and welcoming people. Today I went in to use my level 5 lay down package, that mind I tell you, I pay $50 a month to use!! I go in this morning and see that the level 5 lay down is open. While there are two girls behind the desk this morning I ask to go in the level 5 lay down. Both of the girls giggle and say "someone is about to go in there." Mind I tell you that there is NO ONE ELSE IN THE SALON!! So whatever I brush it off and say okay ill wait. I go to use the bathroom and by the time I am exiting the bathroom one of the girls behind the desk is going in to use the LEVEL 5 LAY DOWN!!! So now myself a PAYING customer has to wait for an EMPLOYEE to use the bed. Seriously not happy about this at all. And considering changing salons. This is not acceptable what so ever. read more

I usually don't leave reviews for businesses, but I have to get my frustrations out ... My good friend from Gurnee tells me of this new tanning salon that just opened in Grayslake and the big social media presence they have both on Facebook and Twitter. So I check it out and notice their late hours. I drive there tonight (a Saturday night) from Libertyville to find the place pitch dark with a note on the door that they are closed due to "unfortunate circumstances" ??? Not one thing on Facebook or Twitter informing their existing and new clients that the salon will be closed earlier than normal ??? I stuck around hoping that someone might come to re-open the store, but no luck, just watched as numerous other customers pulled up and left in total frustration once reading the handwritten note on the door. I'm a busy person and can't afford to waste time and gas driving to locations that don't stick to their posted hours of operation. I have been here multiple times and never had a problem. Great service and great tanning products and such. But what makes me give them 3 stars instead of 5 was that today is the day before my birthday and I made an appointment 4 days before today and the canceled on me 5 hours before my appointment because of "scheduling issues". Which completely screwed me and now I'm no longer a customer to them. From now on tucan tan will be my home for warmth and tanning when it's cold. read more

The last couple of times I went to Tropical Tan the beds I used were dirty. I didn't realize it until the session was almost over the first time. After leaving I developed an itchy rash. I called the salon manager and she assured me it would not happen again as the two employees responsible for that shift were fired for not maintaining the beds. She did the right thing and credited back the money I spent for the session. I advised her I was happy with resolution. She assured me the beds would be clean from now on. I went back and used the upright tanning booth and the bottom floor was extremely dirty. I came prepared with Clorox wipes and cleaned it before my session and took photos. I like the salon it's nice and conveniently located. I would like to continue using using their facility but would ask the Manager to address this again. Maybe consider hiring someone more responsible and stop hiring teenagers. I will consider contacting the Lake County Health Dept. I don't want the salon to close but want people to be able to use it and not get sick. read more
