Way over priced and terrible customer service. I called to cancel my monthly subscription after the first month. I was told it was taken care of. I just received another charge on my card for the upcoming month. I called and they said I had to come in and sign to cancel and they would not be refunding me. Poor decision on their part as I will never be coming back as a result and will be sharing this with my friends and family. Stay far, far away from this place! My wife began tanning here a few months ago on the monthly plan. The monthly charge was processed fine until today. Since it's Sunday, we cannot contact the bank to determine the reason why the charge was rejected today. Possibly mis-flagged as potential fraud? Regardless, Tropical Tan decided to close my wife's account immediately and is now insisting on charging a new setup fee to reopen the account! This place is a scam! Had a reoccurring monthly tanning package. Got a new debit card because my old one was expiring. Brought the new card to the salon to update my billing information. Associate entered my information and had me insert my new card and specifically said "Good thing you remembered because with the new packages there is a $25 sign up fee and said I was good to go" Needless to say, I went to go tanning and they said my card declined the payment and I would have to resign up with one of the new packages and the additional $25. I explained I updated my information and what the associate said. I was told there was nothing they could do. I don't know if this is a way to get more money or if the associates are not trained to update payment info. Going to find somewhere else to tan. read more

Terrible place to tan, so filthly. As i went to lay down to tan in the KBL ( in the cracks of the bed) there was eyelashes, a fly and so much dust or dead skin. I will be tanning else where. read more

Came over to try the VersaPro. It was super easy. The girls were very friendly and answered all of my question. The place was super clean, with a modern look. The room was comfortable. I was shocked when the machine started a self-clean mode! I think I enjoyed watching that more than my tanning. LOL! I'm looking forward to see the result and to come back again! read more

While I understand times are tough for everyone currently, and most are genuinely stressed out (including myself), it gives no right for anyone to treat people in a negative, condescending way. I am a single mother who has been purchasing $66/mo. tanning packages for several months. Until yesterday, there has never once been an issue with my daughter sitting in a chair, outside of my tanning room, with a mask on, waiting for me to finish. 13 minutes tops. She has always been quiet, respectful, and well-behaved. Heck, one of the gals let her sit in the room with me during a spray tan session. NEVER A PROBLEM. Yesterday we entered the Tropical Tan location on Sheridan Rd. in Kenosha, WI. The gal behind the counter felt the need to remind me my child was not allowed to go in the room. I let her know I was very aware of that. My daughter & I stopped at the bathroom first, then went on to bed #7. As I pulled the chair out for her to sit on while patiently waiting, the girl literally yelled down the hallway, "I'm sorry, but she can't sit there." I was shocked to say the least. I asked, "Why not? She has been doing this for months!" She said, "No she can't. Because of COVID we're not allowing anyone to wait." I honestly got very upset and left. We were the only people in the place. The girls snotty tone and extremely rude behavior instantly sent me through the roof. I got home, called the location and requested to speak to the manager and/or owner. She would not give me any information (i.e. name, contact #, etc.), but said I would get a return phone call. Well, I didn't believe her, for I was still awaiting a return phone call from 3 months prior. I called the 75th St. location (where I typically go and have never had any issues), and filled them in on the situation. As usual, they were much kinder. I requested a call back from a manager or the owner from them as well. I received a call back this morning from a female manager. I received the typical, "I'm sorry to hear that", "I'll have a talk with her", etc. She also said management leaves it up to the employees on whether or not they allow people to wait. Huh? They let the employees decide the rules? Nice consistent structure. I told the manager I would just be going to the 75th St. location from now on...and that I would be there this evening. She said ok. I got to the 75th location and low & behold, the owner was there. I know this because here's how our interaction went. With my daughter standing right next to me, he asked me which bed I wanted. We ended up deciding on bed 13. He asked me if I have my eyewear. It was in my hand. He then asked me, "What do you plan to do with her?" and points to my little girl. I said, "Have her sit outside my room like I always do." He instantly became defensive and said they don't allow that. I of course asked, "Since when? We do it all the time. This wasn't a problem until yesterday!" He tried to explain the COVID line as well, when yet a, we were the only ones in the area. I repeated it was something we always do. Never been an issue. He said they're creating consistency across all of the employees...funny, exactly what I said to the manager when on the phone with her this morning. So I told I want a refund then. I paid for an entire month, I didn't receive what I paid for, so I want reimbursed. He started to fiddle around on the computer and that's when I asked, "Are you the owner?" His reply, "I'm the only owner" very arrogant-like. I said, "I see...the owner that doesn't like to return phone calls?" His reply, "That's what I have managers for." I said, "Not very good ones." He just shrugged his shoulders and laughed. He then told me he couldn't give me a prorated refund and if he did a full refund he would be charging me full price for each tan I had already had. Of course I countered with, "No...that's not how this works. I paid for a full month package, as I did for many months in a row, and I did not receive a full month. I want my money back." He literally laughed, AGAIN. I told him, "Laugh all you want! You owe me a refund." His direct words back to me were, "Let me look more before I say something else" in a very juvenile & sarcastic way. He did finally decide to refund the monthly charge in full but added, "I'm just going to refund the whole amount but make sure you bring your business elsewhere." Of all times to laugh, that would be the most opportune time! I said, "Do you really think I'll be back?" Then he told my daughter & I we were "free to go" as if we were being held against our will and released. What? Fun Fact: Remember this all started because of one Sassy PT employee and COVID, right??? The owner had NO MASK ON in his own establishment that has a sign on the door that states "MASKS REQUIRED". They are rude, condescending and the young 16-year-old girls were flirting with old men when I came in and it was just so creepy and I felt so uncomfortable. I purchased a few spray tans during a promotional time at this location. I specifically asked the girl at the counter if they expired, and she told me "no." Shortly after, I got pregnant with my first child, and my doctor told me not to get spray tans while pregnant. I had my daughter over the summer and breast fed, and was advised not to get a spray tan while breast feeding. I went to use my spray tan today, and was informed it was expired. I asked to have the manager reveries this situation, and the girl said she would, and would message me on FB after. She never did, and I had to reach out again. The manager would not honor my spray tan I had purchased, even though his employee told me it did not expire. I guess the customer isn't #1 at tropical tan!! I specifically asked the girl selling me the spray tans, if they would expire prior to buying them, and she told me no! I wouldn't have bought them if I knew they would expire! Additionally, I wanted to be sure I posted this review since I used to be a happy client with this business. Tropical Tan is great! The owners, Joze and Angela, are the sweetest people. They truly care about there clients and maintaining them. They do a great job of staying connected with everyone on facebook and instagram. They have good beds and reasonable prices (best in Kenosha for what you get). The only drawback is that the place is small any they don't have a ton of beds, BUT it's definitely worth it when they treat you so well. They have customer appreciation days where they give away packages, lotions, provide food, and music. It's no wonder they won Best of Kenosha '12. I've been a customer on and off for some time now. I had prepaid for 3 months and was told I had to have the draft set up even though I would not be needing the services for a while after that. The hours of business are listed on the door and social media. I went at 7:16 this morning, the open sign was flashing but the door was locked. Nobody was there. I sent a message through messenger with a picture. I left as I didn't have time to wait. I got a response saying, sorry the opener is on her way, sorry for the inconvenience. I responded that wasn't good enough. I paid for a service and am unable to use it because someone didn't come to work. I was then offered $10 off my next draft fee. I had explained I wasn't going to work as I wasn't continuing my membership the rest of the year. She insisted that is all she could do. I asked for the owner to contact me. I then received a call from the "manager". I said I wanted the owner to call me not her, she said he just left for vacation that day and would be gone for 2 weeks (convenient). She said I could wait two weeks. I suggested her refunding me $10 to my account. Was told they don't do that all sales are final. She proceeded to say that these things happen. It happens everywhere, employees are late all over the place. Let her know that what other businesses do is not my concern. My concern is that I paid for a service that I wasn't able to use but all sales are final. I again said I would like to talk to the owner and now she says the owner doesn't talk to clients, that's what managers are for. After more back and forth of her not listening to me, she said there would be a $10 credit on my account. Great. Went in the next morning, asked the girl at the counter if there was a credit she said no. She didn't see anything in the computer for me. Said she would message the manager. I said ok and tanned. Came out and asked if she answered and was told no, she was off this morning. I asked if I could do the paperwork to make sure I don't get the draft which wasn't due until the end of the month. She said if I do I wouldn't be able to use their services anymore that month. I said I'm prepaid through the end of the month. She said that's the way they do it. Can I get my money back prorated then? No. All sales are final. So that's stealing my money if you don't allow me to use the services I paid for. At this point I'm angry, I said that the manager was a lying bitch and left. I sent another message calling her out on her lie of no credit. And low and behold the manager answered. She said she took the $10 off my next draft fee. I told her repeatedly that will not work. Obviously, not very good with the listening or reading skills. She sent me a message saying that if I continue with MY bad behavior I wouldn't be allowed in their salons. I asked what bad behavior? Then she called me. She called to harass me and say my bad behavior won't be tolerated. Again, what bad behavior? I'm trying to resolve an issue. I gave her advice on how to deal with people as she a young girl and obviously is clueless. I told her if she would have her nicer and maybe suggested a couple free tanning lotion packets or a free session in June this would have been done. She's the one escalating this by calling me without being asked to and threatening me with my bad behavior. After this month is up, I will NEVER go back to that place again! read more

The facility is excellent however the girls at Counter are NOT knowledgable about packages. Sold me on a 30 day package on 2/3 but it was actually a monthly package. I tried to cancel 3/3 when I saw another $55 taken out of my account but was told nope it was actually a monthly package and nothing they could do! The worst tanning salon in Kenosha. Tropical Tan's owner is unprofessional and greedy. I was tanning here for awhile until he completely screwed me over. They are extremely over priced, and their beds are not strong compared to the surrounding tanning salons. I tried to make a review on Facebook and the owner deleted and blocked me. This place is a rip off! I purchased a Yelp deal for $50 for $100 worth of service. Used it once. Called for three weeks to get in on a Monday evening to take advantage of the cheaper $10 deal and was told each time the person there wasn't trained. Finally had some time early in the morning and Josie (the owner I was told) said the offer had to be used all at once or only for new customers and Josie wasn't budging. So for those tracking at home, I have to use $100 worth of TANNING services all at once when I'm "new." Wow, what a person tanning or spray tanning could look like at that level??!! When I asked to speak to Josie, the poor girl at the counter said he only goes through Facebook and then suggested I call Yelp for a refund. So now I've used my offer once and am out $90. I always have a great experience here! I don't tan in a bed, but I do utilize the awesome airbrush girls and just recently the amazing Versa Spa! I hardly ever have a wait time because I make appointments and the girls are always welcoming and knowledgeable. I found the two best smelling lotions ever here and they were highly recommended by the girls. This location is clean and their products work efficiently. I also love the membership option! If you don't get a membership, they are always running specials. They really know how to make a customer happy! read more

As much as I like their tanning bed and some of their staff I really wish they would focus alittle more on details. Their fish tank is overly dirty and ton of dust everywhere, I'm understanding to the construction but that's even more of a reason to stay on top of such small things. My 1st visit was great Mary was awesome and so pleasant. However my two recent visits I've walked in and did not get acknowledged for atleast 2-4 mins and both times two people including the male owner were working with only one customer there. read more

I have been going to Tropical Tan for about five years. I will say that the 18th street location is absolutely wonderful, clean with friendly staff. The 75th street location can be a much different experience at the hands of one employee who I now know her name is Melanie. I do not know her outside of my interactions with her at tropical tan and I will say she has the customer service skills of a 16 yr old who is upset they have to work. Beyond not being friendly or helpful, she repeatedly gives me a verbally hard time when I ask for an extra towel. Each time I have asked for an additional towel she attempts to give me their microfiber CLEANING towels. And each time I have asked for a tanning towel instead, to which she goes on that they are all the same while visibly being annoyed with me. I try to set a more positive tone but my efforts have met dead ends. Relocating to this side of town made the 75th location much closer though I would highly prefer (and suggest) to tan at the 18th st location for a better experience. All other staff members have been friendly and helpful and WITHOUT the attitude of a teenager who just got grounded. Given the option (hopefully in the future) I would gladly tan elsewhere on this side of town to pass on the unnecessary bickering. read more

The atmosphere is great. Super clean. The BEST beds (IMO). Nice lighting (which sounds super shallow, but I actually find it v important in tanning salons for optimal tan selfies). Good selection of lotions; none of the lotions I've tried I've disliked. Always felt just a little judged by some staff members simply for not looking like the "tanning type" (not SUPER bronze, not wearing yoga pants 24/7, etc), and sometimes felt like I was being talked down to upon asking some questions. Some of the Yelp/Facebook reviews have been responded to in a little bit of a snippy matter. All of this is purely opinion, though, and the salon is all in all a damn good tanning salon as far as tanning salons go. Would/have recommend to anyone. read more

I was extremely disappointed when I purchased a groupon for this place only to be told that I was limited on the usage of it. I purchased 5 spray tans and was told I could only use level 1 (out of 3). Nowhere on the groupon did it specify that. The manager at the counter was very rude and was not interested at all about remedying the situation.
