Came on a Monday night, initially tried a different lace but it was full, so we came here. Lots of open lanes as it's a big space. Seemed clean and was well lit. It was a bit pricey, $50 for 4 to bowl for an hour. Another $30 to add on another hour. The game went smoothly. Sometimes some of the pins wouldn't be set up right but that was fine with us as we weren't expert bowlers and just there for fun. There were lots of balls to pick from as well and we were all able to find ones we liked. The ball return worked every time. We got a pitcher of beer and some cans to follow up. That service was quick. I didn't go to the bathroom but my friend did and said none of the stall doors in the women's restroom would close and stay locked. There's a pretty big parking lot so it wasn't hard finding a spot to park in. Not sure what bowling costs at other locations in stl but this was a fun spot to come and I would consider coming again. read more

Me and a friend went here to bowl. It has been a very long time since I last went here.Their alcoholic drinks are pretty decent and fair price. The fries and Philly steak burger are pretty good. One hour would be about 2.5 games for 2 people at an average rate for bowling. They also have a pool table for a few to play. The decor is outdated but still fun to play here. read more

Some friends and I decided to go bowling at 6pm on a Thursday. Unbeknownst to us, Thursday nights are among one of the most popular times to bowl. This made it particularly difficult to find a bowling ally with available lanes. Initially, we tried going to Pin Up Bowl (Delmar Loop) and Olivette Lanes (University City) without success due to their extensive wait times. A quick Google search revealed a nearby third option we hadn't initially considered: Tropicana Lanes. Tropicana Lanes is located in Richmond Heights, just minutes away from the St. Louis Galleria. It is a large, 52-lane facility that includes concessions, a bar/lounge, lockers and a viewing deck. When we arrived, there were 2 lanes available. For the 3 of us to bowl for 1 hour (+ shoe rental fees) it was exactly $50. During that time period, we were able to play just over 2 games. The facility was well clean and well maintained despite holding the title as one of St. Louis's oldest bowling allies. Overall, (despite not winning) I enjoyed my experience at Tropicana Lanes. Our lane 43 continued to miss pins, give people strikes when no ball was thrown, miss count spares, we had to start rack over multiple times and went to the counter 5 times for assistance. BJ was very Rude stated i didnt have to come back when i expressed we needed more time due to the inconvenience and he stated it wasn't a maintenance issue. What was it then BJ ? We spent over $100 on bowling, pizza and wings both bland i do not recommend. 6 adults bowling was $100 even which is pricey but normal for bowling alleys nowadays. What annoyed me a bit was the fact that our lane was on the fritz. Not resetting the pins in the right sequence. Did this the whole time we were there and staff just kept telling us to reset it with a button on the ball rack. $100 for a shorted alley sucked a bit. I hadn't been here in a few years, so I was looking forward to playing (losing) a few games with my partner. The venue is large and spacious with 52 lanes across two sides of the building. Our shoe rental attendant was nice and lively. There's a bar at the front and Tina, our bartender, served up some nice slightly stiff drinks. The bathroom was clean. They have the standard bowling software that projects on the screens above your lanes. We will definitely be back for to get beat again. read more

Worst bowling alley in STL. If you aren't a bowler who is just looking to have fun and don't care about lane condition--go to Main Event where you can get unlimited bowl for like $20. It's $35/hr here (no bowling alley in STL is more expensive than that). if you are a bowler, I've never seen more transitioned lanes anywhere than here (at 6 p.m. on a weekday)! I literally had to switch from a Storm Virtual Blackout (which took a hard left halfway down the lane due to atrocious oil conditions) to a house ball--that still, on its best roll, resulted in a "Brooklyn strike." Bottom line, they don't take care of their lanes, and they charge literally the highest price in the STL metropolitan area for it. read more

The only time I've ever been bowling here was probably 8-10 years ago and it was while on a date. I forgot my socks, purchased an overpriced, not so well-made socks from their vending machine and ended up having a blast. We had dinner elsewhere after bowling so I was unable to try their food or drinks. We had one drink while there but that was it. I remembered having good service as far as renting shoes and had no lane issues. This week, our team at work decided to hold a team building event here and I got to try their food out. We ordered wings, cheese pizza, nachos, and fries. The wings were quite crispy at first bite then the horrid dryness and lack of flavor beats on your palate while it screams for water or any sort of beverage to alleviate the desert-like feeling. So, it wasn't great, sadly. The cheese pizza was OK, it gave me terrible heartburn and will most likely avoid next time I make it in. The nachos weren't anything special, it had a dab of generic melted cheese over each order. The fries... I didn't even bother as they looked like the crinkle, generic ones you can find at the frozen aisle of your local grocery store. If I have to rate the food alone, it would be a 1.5-2 stars. The bowling part was fun except for the part that we had lane issues, the keyboard was broken and they ended our time abruptly without giving us our lost time back. We waited a total of 30 minutes or more for recurring issues to be fixed which was a bit excessive both for the amount of issues we were having and the time it took to fix our technical difficulties. My favorite part was probably how our team had such a great time, I bowled my best game, that this place does have a lot of lanes available, it's located in a nice area and they keep everything clean. They could improve on their customer service and food quality though. Will I be back? Certainly! But only for bowling purposes. read more

Keith Nash is the biggest piece of work I have met. I am beyond amazed at how he manages this bowling alley. I went there on my birthday and showed him it was my birthday, with the VIP membership perks, which claims TWO FREE GAMES, After I already offered to pay $160 for two lanes, and he said "Sorry I cant read" and he said "I dont give a f*** what the internet says I will not honor it." I came for my birthday weekend with 30 people and spent over over a grand at the bar and he acted like I was was a second class citizen. I do not recommend. read more

C'mon guys, it's Tropicana. It's a St. Louis landmark and a throwback to the past, but in the form of bowling. This place is legendary, and it's also old. -_- I came here last Friday for a work bowling party and we had one half of the building. The good thing about Tropicana is that it's very large and has two complete sides of bowling lanes to accommodate bowling patrons and groups of any size. This time marked the first time I had come here in about a good 5 years. BOTH times, the lanes (yes they were different lanes) froze and had to be manually reset by the workers. The reset buttons don't work! This time around was even more strange in that the apparatus that sweeps the pins that were knocked down and lifts the remaining pins between the bowler's first and second turns, was not grabbing all of the remaining pins, and was KNOCKING DOWN SOME OF THE REMAINING PINS! Granted, this helped our scores, but still, c'mon guys. WTH! Also on our lane, (Lanes 27 and 28 I believe the numbers were), the monitors DID NOT GIVE US THE COOL GRAPHICS (after strikes/spares/gutters/etc)!!!!! I work hard for my strikes! I need all the glory that comes with that. Another strange thing, was that we had "cosmic bowling" during our session at one point, and it was SOOOOOO DARK that it was honestly hard to see where you were bowling. It was quite an adjustment. I would honestly give Tropicana 2 stars if it wasn't for the fact that this is "Tropicana Lanes"! They seriously get 1 star automatically just for still being in business after all of these years. Just keep in mind, that this place is OLD, and with that age comes deteriorating and malfunctioning equipment, broken bowling balls (mine had a crack in it but it still got some of the job done), and the frustration that can come with that. read more

Close but no cigar! Has the potential to be a great bowling center. It was clean, well kept equipment and balls were in good shape. Software was easy to use and setup, even modify if needed. Where the break down happens is with the service. There is a special advertised on their website, so a decision was made based on that information to bring our large group to this center, yes we called ahead to inform that we were coming with a larger group. However when we rang up the 22 people we did not receive the discount and were told "this is a holiday weekend, we don't do that on a holidays". Additionally, they seemed disappointed that we were there with a large group, which is odd as it was a Thursday evening and this is a very large center with many lanes, finally the food line was extremely slow turning out food which I can forgive as we are currently in a hiring crisis and finding workers is hard for everyone, the caveat being that the younger worker was over heard by us saying "we should just close up" with a line of already ordered/paid customers as well as a line of those who had not yet had a chance to order. Like I said, potential for a great bowling center, worth giving a shot but manage expectations. read more

Tropicana has been around since I was a little kid. Pretty much a staple in this area of town. Facilities are decent... the restrooms require an update and more regular cleaning and the concession area could use a deep cleaning, but outside of that, this is your typically bowling alley environment. Prices are comparable to other bowling alleys, but... if you are doing a group for the 2 hours of bowling, I urge you to confirm when they start your 2 hour clock because you might get jipped out of 15-20 min. read more

Tropicana Lanes lives up to their name: the climate inside was definitely comparable to the tropics. I think I dropped the ball once I was sweating so much. And who can forget the $5 pitchers (only Bud Lite) that you get charged $8.50 for? I have never seen so many bowling lanes in one place! This 52-lane behemoth of a facility is located along Clayton as it approaches Brentwood Boulevard. Some friends said it was a little tricky to get to by Metrolink, so if you're planning on taking public transportation, be on the lookout. Tropicana Lanes is one big area with 26 lanes on either side and a bar, service desk, lockers, arcade, and bathrooms in the center. Compared to other bowling alleys I've been to, the place gets a B- on cleanliness, but that doesn't really matter-- it adds to the gritty charm of the place. It was packed when we were there, on a Saturday night, and we were informed we'd need to wait about an hour and a half before there was room for all of us. Fortunately, the bar area right at the entrance provided an excellent opportunity to catch up over relatively cheap Bud Lites, PBRs, and pitchers. The bartender was friendly and didn't seem to mind the fact that we were Tropicana newbies; I'm still wearing the "21+" wristband he tagged me with (with all the kids around, they must get a bunch of underage wannabes). It seemed there are a lot of great specials on some nights, if bowling and drinking are really your things. Said kids petered out by 10 or so, though, and the place actually got pretty empty as the lanes segued into what I call "cosmic bowling"-- I think they have another name for it. Halfway through our second game, though, the game paused and we were instructed to see the attendant to continue-- turns out we were $7.90 short to continue the game. We didn't think we were-- maybe there was some sort of accounting glitch-- so we left a tiny bit disappointedly, unwilling to shell out the extra money. The lanes are kind of run-down, but the neon sign and decor are from from another era and the value is tough to beat. If you go, either barter your pizza ticket for nachos or eat the pizza with your non-bowling hand. The pizza has been compared to cardboard with cheez whiz on it, which is not entirely inaccurate. Very oily. We once tried to order half sausage / half pepperoni and got hot sauce / hot peppers. It's hard to say which is preferable. Maybe nachos. At night, you have no trouble getting drinks directly from the bar. They have just one beer on tap, so hopefully you don't mind bud light. read more

I feel like to truly enjoy this place, you need to lower your expectations and kind of treat it like a dive bar. Why you might ask? The staff are very friendly but.... -"The Lounge" is where they sell booze. You can smoke in here. Not many places left in STL you can smoke and eat food. It's pretty low budget as you can imagine. Perk? It's super cheap. ($4.50 well drinks) -Like the booze, the food is also very cheap. They don't play games and try to up charge you on quality. You can literally see them dump fries and chicken fingers into friers from giant frozen bags. I think my pretzel and fries together was $5 exactly. The best part is they call your number over the intercom when it's ready...but the fun part is there is absolutely no way to understand them. The speakers are awful. -The lanes are fine. As long as they have salt I can't complain. But these lanes failed multiple times at clearing the pins. We had three of them. One of them froze 2x and another froze 1x. This can leave you waiting for 10-15 before they fix it. -The bathrooms are what you'd expect...pretty gross. But hey, plenty of parking! That being said, you can still have a lot of fun here.
