There was only one other person that ordered before me, and the three others that ordered after me all got their food before I did. Ended up waiting about 15 mins for a simple Gyro during lunch; with the stress of my meter expiring. This all would have been forgotten if the Gyro was worth the $7 I paid. I was befuddle at the lightweight bag I received. The pita was dense and lukewarm, maybe 5-8 skimpy pieces of meat, not enough tzatziki sauce, and contained more lettuce than meat. Talk about tasty Shwarmas, and delicious Lamb stew! The lentils are so yummy too. Even the garlic Greek fries are tasty and crunchy! And it's a quick service at a very reasonable price kind of place! The platters are a good portion for sharing if you're willing and we frequent it at least once a month. Glad it's so close to home. The service is always tops and I've never been disappointed or gotten sick of it or from it! It's a great quick meal before a movie across the street too! My wife and I stopped by to sample the fair and were pleasantly suprised. We have had Greek food many times in the past and Troy ranks up there with the best of them. The Greek fries were hot and fresh as well as awesome. The gyro was also really good. The sauce was perfect (to include the amount) and the amount if meat (including the taste) was great. Cute little place, nice staff, but mediocre appetizers. I ordered the dolmas and avgolemono soup. The dolmas were cold and did not contain the much-heralded beef (the way I like them-if I wanted cold dolmas I'd go to Cost Plus and pick up a tin). In addition, the grape leaves used for the dolmas would have benefitted from 1-2 more soakings to get rid of the harsh flavor. The avgolemono soup was thick with rice and egg, as it should be, but the lemon was overpowering. I suspect that the cook did not use chicken broth to prepare the rice; had he done so it would have balanced out the lemon nicely. The dolmas was served with about a cup of tsaziki but only two pita pieces - way too much sauce, too little pita. I'll stick to Athenian in Suisun and Petra in Orinda for fast Greek food. read more

The Moussaka is absolutely delightful. The eggplant, spices, cheese, and meat all blend wonderfully to create a beautiful symphony in my mouth. I've only had their lamb gyro and falafal here. Both are really delicious but I think what makes it over the top is the garlicy green and red sauce they give you to go with it. It's so delicious. Troy is a nice little Mediterranean restaurant tucked away across from the Alameda movie theater. Their menu is nice and small, food comes out fresh made to order. The only downside would be the size of the place is pretty small, so harder have more than 2 people eating together. They're pretty quick with service so good for take out too. 5 stars for the Greek fries...hands down the best fries I've ever had. They are so simple, yet so great. It could be that they go amazingly well with their house sauces...both the red and green. The gyro is good....though not consistent. I sense it is either freshly prepared and delicous....or re-heated and a bit tough, depending on when you go. It probably has 6 tables, so definitely not suited for large groups. The best GYRO in a long time. During the first bite, I remembered how much I love pressed lamb/beef meat and tzatziki sauce! The lettuce was dark green likely red leaf lettuce or bib, the tomatoes were crisp and not mushy, and diced perfectly. The tzatziki sauce was fresh, cool, and just heavy enough! The server brought "hot sauce" to my table and although I didn't ask for it, I was so glad she did. What was that hot sauce? I had two family members come visit me in Alameda and since I am new (all over again) to the island I told them to pick out a place that looked good and they chose Troy. We had dinner on a Thursday night at around 6:00pm and we were the first customers for the dinner rush. By the time we left all of the tables inside and one outside was occupied. I had the classic gyro with a side of fries and my family members each had a salad. I LOVED my gyro and I heard good things about the salads. Spanakopita - This was okay, not as cheesy and too many layers of the crust. We have been going here for years... Flatbread has gotten thin and tough and where are the thick fries with the seasoning?? I had to stick the gyro in the microwave to soften the bread. It just used to break up in your mouth w it's buttery goodness. This is one of my favorite place to eat. When I realized that this was not enough food & went back in to order a side of hummus they wouldn't accept my debit card for a $4.95 purchase, & said it had to be $5 to use my card (even after just purchasing $25 worth of food that was not enough to fill 2 people), they proceeded to ask me if I wanted extra pita instead of just charging me $4.95, so I just said forget it I will never eat here again.
