Delicious falafel with fresh, doughy pita. What more could you ask for?

This place is great! Super tasty Greek food at a decent price. A friend and I stumbled upon this place when I first moved to Alameda and loved it. I'd gotten the Pastitsio (like a Greek version of lasagna) and she got the Moussaka. Both of us loved it. Last night wanted a quick meal before a movie and got the delicious Chicken Souvlaki . The deliciously roasted chicken came with wonderfully roasted vegetables, rice pilaf and Tzatziki with pita. At first I thought the portion of chicken was small, but it was quite filling. Great location directly across the street from the Alameda Theatre. Small area to eat, but they do have some outside seating and they do take out! Highly recommend. read more

I'm digging exploring my new home - Alameda. I've only been to Troy once, for to-go a lamb kabob wrap thingy... but it was amazing! The meat was so fresh... usually cheap lamb is all gristly... yuck. This place rocks. I'll be heading back for sure. read more

They would probably be out of business if it wasn't for their amazing fries, orange sauce, Shawarma and Gyros. Honestly, I was quite bitter today for coming the second time and receiving rude services. I had a woman take my order who also treated my friends with the least consideration. I am not ashamed to order exactly the same thing on every (frequent) visit: the Chicken shawarma or chicken souvlaki wraps. Amazing. The red and greens sauce? Can't live without. They could probably sell nothing but this and still be a fantastic business. read more

This place was my first time trying Greek anything and I loved it!! I ate the chicken shawar something and I have eaten it about four times since! It's the best! I have also had the falafels and like those too! I highly recommend this place to anyone. read more

I have been here twice and both times were very enjoyable. I always get the veggie wrap and my hubs gets the chicken. Very good food and the fries are pretty good as well. Love the additional hot sauces they offer. All in all good Greek food. read more

After a coworker suggested this place for lunch, we stopped by. I ordered a gyro and a side of hummus. I always try hummus from different places because since I have returned from a Persian Gulf deployment I have yet to find authentic tasting hummus like overseas. Wow! It was exactly what I was looking for! No added seasoning/flavors....just good sesame/chickpea goodness! I will definitely return even for just a hummus fix! Tables were dirty, flies flying everywhere, chicken was tough and grisly, and the hummus was runny and just awful! Never again!

The food here taste fresh, the gyros, chicken souvlaki is very tasty. The hummus we also tried. I always come here when I visit my parents it is a cute little hole in the wall next to the alameda beauty school across from the movie theater. The chicken souvlaki always has a side of veggies like eggplant and zucchini. Would definitely give this place a try. read more

This place looks really cute and the food wasn't horrible considering I just sat here and watched the cook microwave it. If I wanted that situation I could've just stayed at home. Also the customer service is lacking. They tried to charge this poor guy behind me $1.25 extra for single salad dressing sized(1oz?) tzatziki after he spent over $40 on food. Worst excuse for Greek food ever. I would rather eat a gyro at the county fair then eat here. At least that has flavor. This place takes frozen precooked gyro meat and then burns it and serves it to you. Nothing had flavor except for the fries and those were good. But when your a Greek restaurant that should not me the thing that stands out. This place is awful and the customer service was not friendly at all.. almost to the point that she was annoyed I was even ordering anything at all. This was GREAT Greek food for a quick take out restaurant. We ate outside, with a nice cool breeze and people watched the folks arriving at the old theater across the street. Hot, tasty, and the service was friendly and accurate! What more do you ask? Well, my husband's french fries were to die for! I don't know why there's not a line a mile long outside Troy's! Amazing Greek food and very reasonably priced in a perfect little downtown setting. The weather on the evening we ate there was perfect so we ate outside on the front street area. The gyro is simply to die for. I could eat three of them in a row. I got the larger size and it was perfect. The service was great and I think one of the owners brought me my food and she was very nice and even came out to check on us once we were half way through our meal. I also had the Backlava (sp?) which I normally dont love, but it was great. The green hot sauce should be bottled and sold. Great all around restaurant. read more

chicken was good, falafal was good, everything else sucked. Dolma was awful, spanikopita was possibly the worst I have tried. and the portions were skimpy for the price. I wont come back... overpriced and under quality. And the service sucked. I dont know why this place got such a high rating... yelp sheeple I suppose. read more

I have no idea why this place has such good reviews as it was not my experience at all! My boyfriend and I were craving some greek food and I was excited to see that Troy had good reviews. The place is small but cozy. We ordered Greek lemon soup and chicken souvlaki. "The soup" arrived straight from microwave so some parts were warm while the middle was cold. It also did not look like any lemon soup I've had before. It was just yellow, lemony liquid without a trace of any veggie, rice or chicken. Not worth $3.50 they charge for it. The main dish was not awful but the portions are very small for the price and the food is very bland. The service is also lacking. Our waitress never asked to refill our drinks or checked how were we doing. She seemed to be more interested in learning Spanish from the rest of the crew than servicing her customers. Next time I crave lemon soup I'll go to Daphne's as their $1.70 cup of soup is much better tasting and it does not come from microwave. Instead of chicken souvlaki I recommend to try chicken in Halal Chicken which is on the same block as Troy. The food has much more flavor and the portions are substantial. Overall very disappointing experience and will not be back. read more

We like Troy - don't eat a lot but I adore their Greek lemon soup. Just cut the sodium please. Hubby adores there salads. Since I'm so allergic to food on the grill, it eliminates much for me along with sodium and dairy. I try to order carefully. read more

I used to come to Troy in Alameda all the time because the food was so tasty. However as of lately, the food and the customer service of this restaurant has been lacking. New cooks and employees? And the atmosphere is totally ruined by the loud and annoying Banda music (Mexican music) playing in the background. This would be 100% ok if I was eating La Penca Azul. I went today and the banda music was playing super loud, over the low murmur of Greek music. It gave me a headache and ruined the already lack luster food. Customers come first- Not your cooks/ employees choice in music! Play something appropriate for the theme of the restaurant. I wont be coming back unless management gets this place back to what it used to be. read more

FINALLY! I've found a decent Gyros in California! Stuffed full with gyros meat and good tzatziki dressing like it was MEANT to be- not like that wimpy crap with 4 pieces of meat and salad vinigrette (you've got to be kidding me) over at the shopping mall! Those of us who grew up with all the great Greek diners of the mid-west and east coast will be happy to find Troy. Only wish it had a bigger space and better seating- (and Greek diner prices- but this is california) Other menu items (falafel, hummus, shawarma, etc) also well done! read more

I went here the other day as was pretty satisfied. The plate I got was really good but really greasy (the eggplant dish w/ beef). I should have gotten one of the salads for my stomach's sake. The seating area is small so I could see eating there being a problem if it gets busy (3 - 2 person tables inside; 1 3 person table outside). The only issue I had was that our cashier (presumably owner) was just about to finish ringing us up when her cell phone rang, she put us off and took the call and didn't finish helping us til she was done. If she would have just finished our transaction and then called whoever it was back we could have sat down and been a bit happier. I'm a person who never talks on my cell phone when someone is helping me because I think it's rude to do so. I thought this was pretty rude. I'd go back for a salad the people sitting next to us got one and it looked great but if the cell phone thing happens again I won't return. read more

LOVE this place. First and foremost, the place is CLEAN! From the open kitchen to the outdoor seating, it's incredibly well maintained. Whether they're slammed or dead, the service is always exceptionally quick and friendly. Mary Rose (your statuesque server) is knowledgable and engaging. Moving here from "little Greece" (Tarpon Springs, Florida), I was skeptical at first... But I had no reason to be. This tiny spot across from the theater has delicious and authentic Mediterranean food, fast and cheap! The gyros are always spot on and perfectly balanced. The horiatiki salad is fresh and never overdressed. I love the spanikopita to start, and their baklava isn't overwhelmingly sweet. Without a doubt, STOP HERE! read more

I've passed by Troy numerous times since living in Alameda, and finally gave it a try with my family last Saturday; we loved the food. I had the 9" falafel wrap, my wife had the Moussaka, and my daughter had the Lamb Souvlaki, which included rice pilaf, vegetables and pita bread. We also had Dolmas as an appetizer. The falafel was homemade, and tasted very fresh. It was slightly crispy, which is just how I like it, and had just the right amount of yogurt sauce. I tried the green hot sauce, which was on the spicy side, but good. There is also a milder red sauce available. I didn't try any of the Moussaka, but my wife enjoyed it. My daughter's lamb was juicy, tender and flavorful. The Dolmas were great, with the grape leaves tightly wrapped around the rice/lamb filling. The Pita bread, rice pilaf and vegetables were also quite good. The fries look good from the pictures I've seen on Yelp, and I'll give them a try next time. The food portions are a reasonable size for the price. Troy is not a large restaurant, so may not be the place to go if you have more than 6 people. I highly recommend Troy for Greek/Mediterranean food. read more

A little greek restaurant tucked away off cliche park street. However, some of the best restaurants of alameda are off park street (Q's Halal.) I was pleasantly surprised at the non-greasy, but juicy and peppery shawarma chicken wrap. A deal at $7! You must try the green and red hot sauces though! The other items looked great, but the small interior was a bit cramped. Also, the ambiance didn't feel greek, but it's the food that matters anyway. The chicken also didn't taste like it had been roasting in a vat of grease, which is often a turn off for me at cheaper greek spots. Definitely the top greek spot in town. I'm SO DISAPPOINTED! I've been a regular at Troy for a number of years. The food is pretty good, the price is very reasonable, the service is usually fast and the staff are generally friendly. I've made a point of continuing to give them my business during the pandemic. HOWEVER, tonight I was very disappointed when I picked up my takeout order. There was a new employee I've never seen before. Just as she was about to hand me my bag of food, she had to sneeze. To my horror, she pulled down her mask, turned her head slightly, sneezed vigorously into the air, then put her mask back on, turned back towards me and handed me my food. YUUCK!!! I calmly explained to her that you're supposed to keep your mask on when you cough or sneeze, because that's exactly why we wear the masks--to keep our droplets from traveling to others & sharing germs. She replied, "but if I do that, my mask gets all wet and icky!" I again tried to explain to her that's exactly the point--not sharing our icky stuff with others. Instead of apologizing, she defensively replied, "but I didn't sneeze towards you!" Clearly she hasn't been trained properly in COVID-19 safety procedures. I'm in my mid-60's and at high risk for COVID. I only go outside my home occasionally to buy food. Although I've been a loyal customer for many years, I'm not sure I'll be going back!--DISAPPOINTED!!! read more
