I really love a good gyro and had tried a few other places (disappointing) since moving to Alameda. Then I found the reviews for Troy here on Yelp - and boy am I glad I did! I've been eating gyros from Troy just about every day for the past two weeks now. I'm really eager to try the shawarmas and falafels but these gyros are so amazing I just keep ordering the same thing. This place flat out rules. I haven't had a bad dish here in the last year. My wife and I eat here weekly. They have a few outside tables for when the weather is nice. They offer a nice hot sauce and their tzaziki is to DIE for. There is usually not a line. You can call in your order and grab it to go in a flash. They are right next to a large parking lot and a parking garage. You really can't beat it. A bonus, the blonde girl that works the counter is one of the most adorable, nicest and ultra efficient customer service people I have ever experienced. Try it. You won't be sorry. read more

I'm SO DISAPPOINTED! I've been a regular at Troy for a number of years. The food is pretty good, the price is very reasonable, the service is usually fast and the staff are generally friendly. I've made a point of continuing to give them my business during the pandemic. HOWEVER, tonight I was very disappointed when I picked up my takeout order. There was a new employee I've never seen before. Just as she was about to hand me my bag of food, she had to sneeze. To my horror, she pulled down her mask, turned her head slightly, sneezed vigorously into the air, then put her mask back on, turned back towards me and handed me my food. YUUCK!!! I calmly explained to her that you're supposed to keep your mask on when you cough or sneeze, because that's exactly why we wear the masks--to keep our droplets from traveling to others & sharing germs. She replied, "but if I do that, my mask gets all wet and icky!" I again tried to explain to her that's exactly the point--not sharing our icky stuff with others. Instead of apologizing, she defensively replied, "but I didn't sneeze towards you!" Clearly she hasn't been trained properly in COVID-19 safety procedures. I'm in my mid-60's and at high risk for COVID. I only go outside my home occasionally to buy food. Although I've been a loyal customer for many years, I'm not sure I'll be going back!--DISAPPOINTED!!! read more

Lunch at Troy is more expensive than lunch at Subway. And you know what? First Class airfare is more expensive than Coach. You will have forgotten the few bucks more you'll pay for lunch at Troy by dinner time. But the taste of that Athenian Chicken Salad will haunt you for much longer. I hate having to give one star, but on my first visit one of the worse things than can happen in a restaurant happened to me. It was a lovely summer evening in Alameda and I was looking for some light not to expensive and within walking distance. There are tons of options since I live a few blocks from Park St and Southshore. Anyhoo, I came upon Troy, read the reviews and decided to give it a shot. Normally for Mediterranean type food, I would have gone next door to Halal Chicken. Unfortunately they close at 8pm and I was to people watch and catch up on some reading. Ya know, good me time! I was also starving since I had just worked out. The place is super small, more like a joint. I don't think there's even a barroom. It was clean enough though and still had a nice mellow ambiance. Perfect for my date with Deepak Chopra. I ordered the chicken Schwarma plate which came with a cucumber and tomato salad, rice pilaf. At first bite it was delicious. Note to self: DO NOT try new restaurants when starving!!! The chicken was prepared like fajitas, the rice was like boxed yellow rice rather than pilaf. There was the strong absence of fresh herbs, like mint, or parsley. Anyhoo the cucumber and tomatoes were fresh everything had a nice flavor but I get like I needed some greens. I got the small Greek salad with feta, tomato, cucumber and a few olives I think. YAY, I thought "this is my kinda salad." Then, I realized it was drenched in dressings, BUMMER. I think dressing should always be dressed VERY light unless extra is requested. I hate when I forget to request it on the side. I took one bit of my salad, and THERE IT WAS!!!!! A long hair pulling between my lips. I was so grossed out, I took the salad to the counter trying not to gag. The young girl at the front was nice and asked if I wanted a refund but didn't give it to me until I asked. I worked in restaurants big and small, cozy and fancy for over 15yrs. YOU ALWAYS REFUND THE MONEY FOR A HAIR, BUG, ANYTHING THAT SHOULDNT BE IN THE FOOD. Don't ask, just do it. In fact you should refund my meal as well because I was to disgusted to finish it. I really tried to eat my other food, but with each bite all I could feel was hair pulling from my mouth, YUUUUKKKK! In short, I wouldn't go here again, especially since there is authentic Halal Chicken next door. Plus the people cooking at halal chicken are actually part of the cultural group. At Troy the cooks were all Latina, which is probably why the food had a strong Latin influence. It's super cheap, but still not worth the money. read more

I was excited to see that the new restaurant that replaced the bubble tea shop opened, so I decided to take one for the team and be the first to review the food. Fortunately, it was a good experience. I called a take-out order in, the Gyros Platter, which includes a generous portion of lamb and beef with pita, and a Horiatiki salad of tomatoes, cucumbers, red onions, feta cheese and kalamata olives. Went in to get lunch on Saturday the 7th. I walked up to the counter to order and two young ladies were behind the counter. I heard them discussing their hair, while they both stood there running their fingers through their hair. One young lady was asking the other what did she use on her hair, etc. Now this would be okay if I were in a salon, but not in a restaurant. I ordered a Mediterranean Plate, and then asked them if they were preparing food. They both said no. I told them that customers don't like to see restaurant workers playing with their hair around food. They gave each other a look as if I was being rude. I kept my eye on the kitchen while my food was being prepared, but that interaction was a huge turn off. The food was ok, I like the Troy's on Solano Ave much better. But these employees need additional training in working in a restaurant. read more

This is not a review on the food. It's excellent and consistent. Please stop confusing people with your hours. If you are truly want to shut down and leave EXACTLY at closing, then don't answer the phone 10 minutes before you close. Also, turn off the OPEN sign so people won't think you are open. On a Saturday night I called 10 minutes before 9 p.m. on a busy Park St. I was across the street and wanted to get a wrap to go. The girl on the phone reminded me there were closing soon and I said "no problem, I am right around the corner". She then said "well the kitchen is closed, so yeah we cannot take orders." Then why would you even bother picking up the phone? You know it's going to be an order. So I figured if the sign was OPEN, I'll just go in person. Walk over and the sign is on and I quickly go in to order and the same girl says "we are closing in 4 minutes". I ask "Can I order?" "Well, if you ordered, then the food would be ready at 9:04 p.m." Then I go "then why is your sign on and you are not willing to take another order before 9?" Two other guys are behind me and the main chef starts asking what they want to eat. At that point, I just left. Not sure if they got what they wanted. Very disappointing. I get it that you want to close your business, so don't answer the phone and turn off the OPEN sign even if it ends up being 10 minutes before you close. It's a busy spring break Saturday night and there's a ton of foot traffic, people are hungry and don't want Subway or a sit down place. Big minus for Park Street having three fast casual spots near each other closed either after 8 or 9 p.m. Sorry Park Street you can't hang with Piedmont or College Ave. read more

Fresh and delicious falafel. The bread wrapped around it was lightly toasted and warm. The produce was crisp, ripe, and flavorful. When I walked in, I was immediately greeted, and my order was delivered to my table within about 6 min. They even had "San Pellegrino" to drink which is one of my favorites. My friend and i stoped here for lunch because we have a habit of trying our new places.....my first impression of it was that it was pretty small cause it used to be Quickly's, and by the way the asian kids aren't happy about it. ....so we walked in, totally confused, there was like 4 tables or so on the inside and some old people were eating at 2 tables.......My friend ordered the chicken shawarma or something with a small fries and a coke after 3 minutes of looking through the menu in confussion.......we got our meal in under 5 minutes and i have to say, the fries were awsome, simple and golden with salt and pepper.....delicious...the chicken thing was ok, not alot of flavor and we had to leave because the rest of the highschool lunch cruise were packing into the tiny place,, on the way the chicken "sandwich" was dripping juice all over the place and got on my friend's shirt......we were not so satisfy, however, i would order another fries.....i guess we'll try it again and order something else......i did like how the food was full of lettuce and healthy stuff, it was light and not so full of fat like other places....i'll try it again. read more

I came here to get a quick bite to eat before seeing a movie at the Alameda Theatre across the street. The service is prompt and friendly, and the food is delicious. I got a 7'' gyro, and that was enough to keep me satisfied but not feeling stuffed. I had some trouble pronouncing gyro, but they were happy to teach me the authentic way to say it. read more

The eggplant salad was good and probably would have earned Troy 4 stars. However, the chicken shwarma was incredibly bland. The chicken was flavorless and dry and I could not taste any of the tahini sauce. The dominant flavor of the wrap was the romaine lettuce. Not too exciting. Sad to say this place is on the downhill slide. I wrote to the owner about an unpleasant experience on 1/7/16 and have yet to receive an acknowledgement. Our complaint is exactly what Chloe C. also shared on 12/30/15. Hello, I'm hoping this message reaches the owner. We have been frequenting Troy ever since it opened in Alameda. Last night when we walked in for dinner, 3 tables had patrons while the other 4 had dirty plates. We ordered from two young ladies behind the register; sat down but since there were no clean tables, we had to move dirty plates from our table to another. We waited for our food and watched the two ladies behind the counter just sit and chat, completely unaware of the fact that the tables need to be bussed and floors cleaned. The dining area was just plain dirty. About 10 minutes after ordering, we noticed more customers coming in and looking around for no clean table to sit at. I still couldn't believe how inattentive the employees were, so I finally asked to the two ladies to clean the other tables. They looked at me in disbelief; then one came from around the corner to sit down at one of the tables to chat with some customers. Unreal! read more

Troy is our go-to greek food place. We love their gyro and greek fries. And it's all about their hot sauces - there's 2 - we just call it the red and green hot sauce. The green one is a bit spicy for me, but my husband loves it. You can't help but put the hot sauces on everything! read more

The gyro's are consistently delicious and a good size. I've also tried a few salads which were also crisp and fresh. Much tastier than a Daphne's. It is quite a small establishment, so seats sometimes fill up at lunch time. read more

AMAZING! I had the falafel pita wrap and a side order of hummus. It was out of this world! I am so picky when it comes to Greek food, but this was the best I ever had. The green hot sauce that you can add to your gyro is what really pushes it over the top. Service was very quick and very friendly. I just found my new favorite restaurant in Alameda. My only complaint is they give you only 1 pita with the large portion of hummus, for $4.25 I think you should get atleast 2 pitas with it. read more

Went for lunch, it's a small cafeteria like place, I'm not sure that I'd call it Greek, falafal isn't Greek, Shawarma is not a Greek word but gyros are Greek. It wasn't good. I LOVE this place! Best gyros in town and the homemade humming and hot sauce is to DIE for! The price is great for the quality and portion size.
