For a 4.5-star restaurant on Yelp, I was quite disappointed. We went during dinner time. They were not busy. Only 1 other group. That may explain why the food did not taste super fresh. Turkish mezzes (small vegetarian appetizers) are the best part of a turkish meal. Unfortunately, the mezzes here, some of them tasted like they came out of the fridge, maybe made a day or 2 earlier. Not freshly prepared. Especially the baba-ganoush and the shakshouka did not have the freshly roasted eggplant flavor. They tasted soggy. With the appetizer sampler that we ordered, came only a few pieces of bread. The bread was not freshly baked. They tasted like pre-packaged pita bread that was warmed up on a grill. With good mezze you want bread fresh out of the oven, ballooned up and still steaming. That was not the case here. The main courses were good, but not 5-star good. We had the fasoli, gyro and the kefta kabab. They were decent. The gyro plate was greasy. Heated on the griddle. Not freshly sliced off the rotating spit. I guess we are spoiled by the delicious and always-fresh Turkish food at MezzeMe! Compared to MezzeMe, the food here was a let-down. read more

Great food. The Iskander is amazing.

Very impressed I will be returning soon. As an individual with family from Turkey I'm very critical of Turkish cuisine in the US. Although the location is a little hidden, it only means it's one of the few places in Austin without a wait and still considered a hidden gem. The best part was homemade ayran! The drink that separates true Turks from tourists with good taste. This hard to find drink is what will be bringing me back over and over again. Last suggestion is to order extra pita...it is $1+ extra but you deserve it! read more

MMMMMMMMM! The Turkish rice (spicy deliciousness, with chick peas and stuff) is so good! The Kofte are a little bit greasy, but hey - it's ground beef. The spices are so good that I didn't even care. The dinner plates come with hot tea, some salad, a sort of custard-y dessert thing sprinkled with lots of cinnamon, and lots of pilaf rice. Last night, the chef/uncle was singing a capella in Turkish, and he had a great voice. Try it! read more

The soup was great and complimentary and the dessert(also complimentary) was amazing! I cant spell the name of it but it was a cross between chocolate mousse and cheesecake...OMG, it was so good, I wish I hadn't eaten so much of my entree so I could eat more dessert! Best Turkish cuisine in Austin. Beef doner, kofte kebab, and beef iskender were all delicious as ever. Oil just right and the rice was perfectly cooked. The baklava was homemade and crafted well. The service was mom and pop and thus had a homely atmosphere. read more

I've been eyeballing the horse head on top of the building as I've pumped gas for the past few weeks and finally dropped in for lunch. First thing you are warmly greeted upon entering, an given a warm mug of delicious Turkish tea. The owner and staff are super friendly and really make you feel welcome. I had the mixed plate, a little of all the meats, and everything was really good and fresh! The dessert is really tasty, it's like a coconut custard roll? What ever It is it hit the spot. I also had aTurkish coffee which was excellent I'm still buzzing 7 hours later. I definitely want to return and try some more of the dishes. Another long overdue post. This family run business is by far my favorite over the last few years. Its a hole in the wall place not far from a Valero Gas Station. Been here and had ordered their chicken with rice. The spices they use on their Turkish food works wonders on the palette. All the other selection on their menu are just as good and reasonably priced. Don't forget their Turkish tea and dessert! The family is very welcoming and hospitable. So if your in this part of town don't be afraid to go to a hole in the wall place. The place is very clean. One of the biggest secrets when going out to eat at a restaurant is to check the restrooms. Personally, 5 stars just isn't enough stars for this little gem. Food and service is consistently outstanding! I discovered this place a month ago and I can't even tell you how many times I've been back. I always get the beef iskender (it tastes like love in your mouth) but my bf has gotten several different dishes and he's always impressed. I actually just went again last night with my mom and sister who came into town. It's important to note that my sister is a self proclaimed food critic and she was not hungry in the slightest and scarfed down her beef iskender plate in the blink of an eye. The staff are the nicest, most hospitable family. I highly recommend actually dining in at this cozy little restaurant, everyone goes above and beyond to make your dining experience special. One of my friends recommended this place to me so a couple of us decided to go today. The place is a hole in the wall and the neighborhood makes it seem a little sketchy. However the interior is pretty decent, and the server was happy to guide us through the menu when we said we had limited experience with Turkish food. I went with the chicken tantuni plate while my friends had the beef iskander (on the servers recommendation) and the lamb plate. The food was really good (group consensus) and Zabihah which is an added bonus but the wait time was horribly long. 40 minutes into our order upon us inquiring, we were informed there had been a glitch in their system and our order had been removed. It took another 10 minutes for the food to come after that. They gave us a complimentary salad and were very apologetic and friendly after but the entire process just took way too long. We weren't asked for an option between hot or cold Turkish tea but it was decent regardless. I passed on the dessert so can't speak about that but my friends liked it! Also I assume the servers are family members or relatives because they really aren't very well trained. However, the place has a lot of potential and I do recommend it! read more

What a find! Just recently open, but real authentic Turkish food that is flavorful, homemade and delicious. Great presentation as well. Very nice service, super friendly owner, pleasant atmosphere. I had a Dorner plate and it delicious! The rice tasted just like in Turkey, great consistency, boiled in bullion, the meat was tender and tasty, salad colorful and fresh, dessert melted in my mouth. This place is one of my fav. places to eat. It's really home cooked food, at least it feels like it. The food is always good, I love everything here. This place is really fun. Don't be put off by the strip mall; the inside is quite a bit nicer, with a very homey feel and a tremendously welcoming owner, who will serve you himself. All the food is home-made.
