    Philly cheesesteak

The fries are super good. The Philly cheesesteak had a good ratio of cheese. Very delicious. I will make this a staple every time I'm in Carolina Beach.

So so good! I would totally eat here again, everybody I ate with got something different, boom boom shrimp tacos 5/5, the 'dip' sandwich 5/5, burger 5/5, chicken sandwich also 5/5! It was so packed with only two workers but they really did that! The service wasn't slow at all, we got our food so quick even though it was packed! Super clean inside, good sanitation rate, and also really good vibes! Feels old school but I promise the foods got some major flavor!!

Grilled cheese and basket of fries

Adorable place right near the boardwalk in Carolina Beach! It was after 1:00 when we got there so we're not too hungry and shared a half basket of fries (more than enough for two) and I had grilled cheese (3 cheeses) and bacon and Hubby had a single burger. Both very delicious. Only complaint was way too much ice in my cherry coke and we did not have enough room to have dessert. Also, not open for breakfast so no eggs on the menu. Told Hubby this is a 50's diner and not a Jersey Diner so no all day breakfast

Awesome burgers and great ambiance! Lots of toppings to choose from on your burger and service was wonderful!

We stopped in at Pops Diner and ordered a spread that really showed off their menu. The chicken wings--both BBQ and mild--were crispy, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. The cheeseburger was cooked well, juicy, and satisfying, paired perfectly with the sweet potato fries that had just the right crunch. Classic fries were golden and crispy, while the onion rings were thick, well-battered, and tasty. Service was another highlight: our server was friendly, polite, and attentive throughout the meal. The only drawback was the automatic 20% gratuity added for our party of five, which felt a bit unexpected. The atmosphere brought an old-time diner feel, with a nostalgic charm that made the experience memorable. Overall, Pops Diner delivered on food quality and service, with just one small caveat on the gratuity policy.

Where to start with this restaurant? First off, the location is in a great spot and the interior took me back to the early days of diners. I loved it. We were seated very quickly and Angela was very friendly and attentive to us. It was 4 of us, so we ended up sharing a few things just because everything sounded good and we couldn't make up our minds. We started with wings and they were good, just on the smaller side; if they were just bigger, it would be perfect. We also got the mac and cheese bites and they were a hit; not a single one survived. As for our main meal, we got a Philly cheesesteak, a chicken Philly cheesesteak, and a blackened chicken sandwich. Now the reason I put them all together is because they all tasted great, good flavor and everything, but their downfall was the bread; if they would have toasted the bread on them, it would be one of the best Philly in the area. And now for the Cuban sandwich, it was built right and the bread was toasted on a ciabatta bread that was just right, but they used their BBQ pulled pork for the pork, which is what it should be, but not with the BBQ flavor. Other than that, it would have been a great sandwich. Overall, the meal had potential, but a few tweaks could elevate it to the next level. I would definitely return to try more items from the menu, especially if they improve the bread situation. The atmosphere was lively, making it a perfect spot for a casual night out with friends. I left feeling satisfied but also curious about what else they might offer that could surprise me.

I was excited to hear about Pop Steiner. It's located on the main strip in Carolina Beach. It looked like an old school 50 diners from the outside. When you walk inside, they had nice comfy booths and there seem to be a lot of room. It's not what you think from the outside thinking that it's going to be tight. I brought my youngest with me at the time and we ordered some burgers, a milkshake and sweet tea. The food was average. It wasn't anything to write home about. I was kind of disappointed thinking that I found maybe one of the old school type diners that you would find up north. But it was suitable for where it was. It is at the beach frankly so I shouldn't expect anything more or less lol. It is decorated as if it's a 50s diner they didn't have the typical things you'd be used to like the music and all that good stuff the waitress was nice. The staff was nice. The people that were local eating. There were nice. My little one ironically, did not even like the milkshake which I found to be really ironic! But it could've been his mood more so than the taste! The burgers I don't know I've had better, but it was edible lol

Pop's Diner was a highlight of my trip to Carolina Beach. The restaurant just has street parking and not a dedicated lot. I could walk from my nearby hoteI so that made it easier. When I saw there was a diner in Carolina Beach I needed I couldn't pass that up. Pop's Diner has a 50s decor. Service was friendly and I was given plenty of time to look through the large menu. I was planning to go with a burger but ended up with the flounder basket. I was expecting it to be similar to fish and chips but it was more like chicken tenders (but with flounder) The portion was very generous as I though I had one more piece and found three more at the bottom of the basket. A sauce was provided but I preferred the fish without the sauce. I had the sweet potato fries and corn on the cob too. The sweet potato fries were not a favorite but the corn was delicious. The hush puppies were also included. I did not have room for dessert so that will need to wait for another trip. :-)

My mom and I had a great time at Pop's Diner! Fun setting inside with great food and service. Angela was our server and she was delightful. I had their bang bang shrimp tacos and shrimp bisque; both were fantastic! Looking forward to returning here soon!

Love this retro diner and its diner food. This is where you come for comfort food. It's like you're transported back in time or you feel like you're in an episode of Riverdale when you sit in the dining area. We tried the sweet potato fries, fry dip sandwich, grilled cheese sandwich, chili, chicken and pastry, and corn chowder. Everything was overall good, but my favorites were the fry dip and chicken and pastry. The sweet potato fries were seasoned with cinnamon and sugar so it was like a dessert. They were fried just a little bit too long. Fry dip- you really can't beat the combination of french fries with shredded tender beef and cheese in a sandwich. And then top it off with a salty au jus. Heaven! The grilled cheese sandwich was big, on Texas toast, about 1.5 inches thick and 4.25 inches long. If I could change anything about it, it would be to add a little bit more cheese. But it was still filling and the buttered toast was delicious. The soups were served with oyster crackers. I could eat the chicken and pastry soup all day long. It hit the spot on the coldest day of the week. The chili was like any typical chili. The corn chowder was creamy and sweet from the corn. Our server was nice and checked on us throughout the meal. High chairs and kids menu are available. There is parking right in front of the restaurant. Parking rules are always changing, but currently for December 2023, it's free parking 5 PM and after.

    Spicey mayo

I love diners and there vibes and this one was great for the vibes, was able to take a party of 10 without reservation pretty easily. I ordered the scrimp BLT with spicy mayo on the side and the spicy mayo had hair in it so I asked for a new one and she walked to the back and then came back out and handed me the same bowl with the same hair in it like I wouldn't notice. I lost my appetite after that so I couldn't even try the sandwich

My combo meal and my friends fried scrimp meal

"Delicious dive on Lake Park Blvd in Carolina Beach"…read more Came here for lunch on a Sunday at right around noon. The place is dark and kind-of makes you feel like you're in the bowels of a wooden ship. There's a large bar in the center, and a few tables around it, as well as a few tables outside in the back. We were seated right away. I ordered the hot honey shrimp wrap as well as the pickled veggies appetizer. My dining partner got the quinoa grain and greens bowl with blackened tuna. Our food came out in around 10 minutes. The hot honey shrimp wrap came with french fries, to my surprise (didn't see that mentioned on the menu), which were fine. The wrap itself was DELICIOUS. MAN, that hot honey was SO tasty, and the greens and corn batter on the shrimp really complemented it well. It is a very, very messy dish to eat with your hands, so be prepared, but it's well worth the sacrifice. The pickled veggies were local and very tasty-- also a very good value for $5. My dining partner really liked her bowl and the tuna in it as well. The staff were quite attentive, regularly checking in, filling drinks, and clearing dirty plates. Only caution is that a lot of the batters are corn-based, so be careful if you have that allergy. Overall, would very happily come back-- great in all respects. I recommend highly!

Out on the pier at Tiki Bar & Ocean Grill, you've got a front-row seat to the Atlantic, and on a day like today, it doesn't get much better. Blue sky, sun hitting the water just right, and a breeze that reminds you why people have been coming to the coast long before fancy resorts showed up. Food Simple answer: they've got it dialed in. Fresh, well-prepared, and exactly what you want at the beach. No overthinking it--just good coastal food done right. That's how it's supposed to be. Service Friendly, easygoing, and attentive without hovering. The kind of service that makes you feel welcome but doesn't interrupt your view--or your drink. Atmosphere This is where they really win. Sitting out over the water with string lights overhead and waves rolling in? That's hard to beat anywhere. Now, yes--the beach itself has those big metal pipes running through for replenishment. Not exactly postcard material. But here's the truth: once you're up on that pier, looking out over the ocean, it barely matters. The view still does what it's supposed to do--makes you slow down and stay a while. Final Take Great food, solid service, and a view that carries the whole experience. Even with the beach work going on, this place delivers what a coastal spot should: good eats, cold drinks, and a reason to sit a little longer than you planned. "Seafood and sports bar on main road in Carolina Beach"…read more Stopped here with a group of 5 on a Friday night in summer, drawn in by the signs about all-you-can-eat crab legs. We arrived at 6pm, and waited maybe 20 minutes for a table. When asked if we wanted indoor or outdoor, we said either was fine as long as not full-sun (some tables were full-sun). Sadly, we were placed at one of the full-sun tables initially. Luckily, when we fussed a bit, they got us a table inside. The restaurant is quite large, with a truly indoor area as well as mostly covered outdoor ones-- we were fortunate to get a truly indoor one, since it was quite hot. The menu was a bit eclectic-- seafood dishes, sandwiches, chicken, and burgers, and lots of drinks. I opted for the fish tacos, since that was reasonably priced-- something like $12-15. The AYCE crab legs were $59-- no thanks! I added a side-salad and also got a fried pickle appetizer for the table. It was a Friday night and busy, but I will say service was SLOW and frankly not great. Took us maybe 15 minutes to get asked what we'd like to order. The fried pickles came almost 30 minutes later. And the meal maybe another 15-20 minutes after that. Our server also seemed almost "put off" whenever we asked for anything, too... like basic flatware after our food arrived. He wasn't great with questions either. Though he did check on us a couple of times. Food was pretty good. The fish tacos were tasty, though one person noted that they were rather minimally seasoned and could have been really great with more. The fried dishes were "fine". One thing to note is the portions are HUGE for many dishes-- one of us got the captain's basket or something, and he's a big eater, but this was way more than he could finish. Similarly, one of us who got the chicken tender platter noted it was really, really big. On the one hand, that's good, but on the other, you're also paying the extra price since the prices were also proportionately higher. The fish tacos were a good compromise-- basically the right amount of food for one person and a decent price. The bathroom was not especially clean-- the soap dispenser was broken and on the side, and it looked like the space hadn't been serviced. The doors to the restrooms were also sticky such that they'd sometimes be left propped open. Overall, I'd say this place was OK but definitely could have been better. I liked my food fine, but the service was definitely underwhelming. One exception-- the lady working the bar was very helpful. There are a lot of GREAT restaurants in Carolina Beach, so this one doesn't do great by comparison.

I would describe myself as someone who is pretty chill and gives restaurants a lot of grace, but I…read moream honestly astounded by the experience I had at The Lazy Pirate. We decided to come here for the first day of college football because it is advertised as a sports bar, and we were excited to spend the day here watching the games. When we arrived, all of the TVs were off and no one seemed to be working on getting them started. The staff initially had no idea what was going on. We eventually found out that it was a cable issue that was out of their control, which is completely understandable. It did however take about 30 minutes for them to find an alternate solution by logging into other apps so we could actually watch the games. Once they figured that out, that issue was resolved, and again, I was completely willing to give them grace for something that was not their fault. Unfortunately, that was just the beginning. Our waitress had very little knowledge of the menu and was unable to answer basic questions about which sauces were which, what came with the salad, substitutions, etc. We ordered two baskets of wings for the table, and when they came out, they were in the wrong sauces. It is completely fine to make a mistake, and that alone would not have bothered me. What was frustrating was that the wings were taken away and then completely forgotten about. We had to ask about them approximately 20 minutes later. As a former server, if I had brought a table the wrong food, I would have at least asked if they wanted to keep it while I had the correct order made. We were starving and absolutely would have kept the wings while waiting for the correct ones. My mom also ordered a salad, which took a very long time to come out despite the restaurant being essentially empty. When it finally arrived, it was missing the pita bread, which was pretty much the only reason she ordered that particular salad. We had to ask for the pita, and even that took a while to come out. Then, when we actually looked at the salad, a significant portion of the lettuce was inedible. As pictured, at least four pieces of the iceberg lettuce still had the core attached (and the missing pita). At this point, it was not one isolated mistake. It was a series of issues with communication, service, and attention to detail throughout the meal. I really do try to give restaurants grace, especially when something is outside of their control, but there was just too much that went wrong during this experience. It is especially unfortunate because we are here on a family vacation and were ready to spend the entire day here watching college football and enjoying ourselves. We came specifically because this place is advertised as a sports bar, and we really wanted to have a good experience. Unfortunately, the experience was incredibly disappointing.

The beef was incredibly well seasoned with those crisp, lacy edges. The chili had just enough sweetness, the mustard brought the perfect tang, and the onions added that fresh crunch. Then there's the toasted potato bun--still the undisputed champion of burger buns--and the perfectly melted cheese holding this glorious mess together. What makes this place even cooler is that it started in a gas station back in 2017. Now it's one of the most talked-about burger spots around.
