Slam dunk save! Short version: we had an issue & they were very kind while addressing it. Long version: I got the 2-meat plate of burnt ends (steak tips) for my husband and I. Got home and it looked like the picture below. I was convinced we had only received 1 order of meat by accident, so I called the store for some form of partial refund since I'd spent $20. The cashier was extremely courteous. Let me know that they get complaints about the burnt ends a lot because the portions are measured by weight. 1 order is 1/4 pound, or about 4 pieces. 2 orders is a half pound of meat, or about 8 pieces, which was what we received. She told me the BBQ employees really try and make sure people get their money's worth; management just scrutinizes them sometimes, lol. This location started off strong when the store first opened, but over the last 6-9 months the quality has gone downhill to the point that I will not return. On my most recent visit, I ordered a barbecue sandwich. After waiting about 20 minutes, it was delivered cold. The meat tasted old, and I did not feel it was safe to eat--I ended up throwing it away. It was like an old dirty cold gas station sandwich. No bueno. That's unacceptable for any restaurant, much less one tied to H-E-B's name. What makes this worse is that I was not the only one frustrated. While I was waiting, I overheard other customers complaining about the long waits and the poor service. It is clear that quality control has slipped badly, and management is either not paying attention or not present. This is disappointing, because H-E-B has such a good reputation elsewhere. I think this place may be owned by H-E-B. We stopped in there for lunch and it's one of those deals where you gotta do a self service order at a kiosk. I ordered burnt ends and brisket. No one answered at the drive through and when I pulled up the window, four employees were standing in the back chatting/on their phones. Brisket has not disappointed us, and the ribs are usually very tender and flavorful. Love the new peach cobbler and the coleslaw is average. Potato salad is tasty, especially if you like onions. Solid BBQ and a good price point. I'm new to H‑E‑B, and decided to order lunch from True Texas on a whim. TTBBQ slow smokes all their meat in-house, made fresh everyday. They sell until they're sold out, which sounds like may happen often. I ordered lunch through their app, which was really easy and quick. The pickup part was a bit trickier because they have only been open for a few days, and lines are wrapped around the building just to get in. Luckily, they have a drive-thru window, so I was able to pull up and get my order that way. The wait time around 1pm was still around 20 minutes in the drive-thru. I'm sure this will change once the craziness dies down. I ordered a brisket baked potato, 1/4 white meat chicken with a side of spicy bbq sauce, mac & cheese, and creamed corn. The potato was delicious - well cooked and generously topped. The brisket was tasty, with smoked flavors really coming through. My only gripe was that the brisket portion I got was mostly fat, and I hate fatty meats to begin with. It just may have been my luck, but it sucked all the same. The bbq sauce was nice, but wasn't terribly spicy. I'd call it a mild plus. The chicken was amazing, tender, juicy and well marinated. Would definitely get this again. The creamed corn was good, kernels we're crispy and not mushy. Mac & cheese was ok - a bit on the salty side, and the cheese was a smidge grainy tasting. Overall, I will definitely eat here again. This review is for the food ONLY - not wait time. The brisket is very good for the convenience. I have had worse brisket at brick and mortar restaurants. It was incredibly tender - meaning no knife was needed to cut it. The turkey is similar to any chain barbecue spot, dry but flavorful. I personally wasn't a fan of the baked potato only because I prefer my baked potato to be mixed and mashed already. If you are a fan of cakey, bread pudding like peach cobbler, this is for you. I prefer my peach cobbler to be flakey and more similar to the complimentary cobbler from Hutchins (definitely worth going to) The sides were all really great as well, I didn't get a picture of the macaroni and cheese but it was incredibly cheesy and thick, not soupy like many other macaroni and cheese sides tend to be. Super thick and definitely heavy. I really really enjoyed the cole slaw but I have had better creamed corn. Of course I had to try True Texas BBQ and snag a couple of their notorious buttered tortillas. Oh by the way I forgot to mention, True Texas BBQ is located inside the H-E-B. Don't feel like getting out of your car for some delicious bbq? We'll no problem! They have drive thru so you can wear your comfy pajamas at your leisure while enjoying a nice hot plate of TX bbq! Tried today. The dude at the counter wanted us to use the kiosk for first visit. We can't ask questions to a kiosk. But ok. He confirms they don't use or cook bacon inside the restaurant. This is a win for some of us. :) We order & cut to share Texas torpedo that is a little tough & it looks crazy. Confirm with another who explains - his misunderstanding might be they are made elsewhere & shipped in. They warm them but don't cook them. We rechecked l kiosk to make sure we weren't stupid. It seriously says brisket & cream cheese. The bacon & nasty sausage was an added, unpleasant surprise. Wasted $5. 8-16-25 my wife and I have eaten at the Killeen location, three times in the past week. We order a 1/2 lb of moist brisket, 3 pork ribs, Mac & Cheese and a baked potato. The brisket was definitely moist and tender. The post oak smoke flavor and the salt and pepper blend were awesome. And, the ribs, seasoned with HEB sweet heat r the Bomb! Very moist and tender. The Mac and cheese and the baked potato did not disappoint! Ok went and tried HEB BBQ, and yes no where near, Hutchins or Tenders or Hurtados, but if you are on a budget, and want decent bbq, better than Dickeys maybe on par with Rudys, then HEB BBQ is a no brainer I tried the 3 meat plater, and wow does have tons of meat (Really in the end its all about the meat) 3 huge ribs, almost fall off the bone, more like a little peel off the bone, lol, lots of sliced brisket, I tried the lean, and yes was somewhat dry, but I have had worst. The sausage about the same as anywhere else, the bbq sauce was 2 options a peppery one, and mild sweet one, I enjoyed both. The also have a drive thru, if you download the True Texas BBQ app, you can order online. While not the best, it's ok bbq if you are craving it, but on a budget, this is another option, and they open at 11am everyday. I could not finish it all, because it was a lot of food, and yes they have sliced bread at your request I can say I do recommend it. I waited for the crowds to die down and for the crew to settle in. This place was overwhelmed with business at first. To avoid the line, I arrived at 11 AM when they open. Put simply, the service, food and pricing are all quite good. It is certainly competitive with other places in the area and the prices might be a little lower. My key test is whether or not at would come back and order the same thing, which was a sliced beef sandwich and small potato salad. The answer to both is a definite yes. They offer everything you could expect from a BBQ place. Eat first and then shop, avoiding parking your shopping cart outside the restaurant. read more

Not worth the wait imho ya'll. I placed a mobile order for 1lb of lean brisket, 1lb of pulled pork, 1lb of turkey, mac & cheese medium. When arrived home, had possibly 2lbs of brisket and no turkey. One of the butcher papers even scribbled with "turkey 1lb" on it. This one was extra "moist" because it was leaking so much grease. The brisket is just okay. It didn't have much of a smoke ring or bark to it. If I had to compare it to another chain, I'd say it's about equal to Dickeys in a pinch. It's not on the same level as Hard 8 or Hutchins. True bbq? Not impressed. Props on how tender it was though, maybe too done? The mac & cheese was fairly good. Wished I could have tried the turkey. Waited over 40 minutes in drive-thru for my mobile order #75530. I understand its opening week and they did seem to substitute turkey with a higher priced product. Specifically selected sweet bbq sauce and onion/pickles in the app but didnt get any bbq sauce. They individually wrap all the onions and pickles in quart size sandwich bags, which seems wasteful of packaging and labor. One bag had 3 pickle slices in it. What I would do is carve out that 2nd lane for mobile pick up orders like a 2nd whataburger lane. It wasnt clear on the app if I was to go inside or use drive thru so I chose drive thru and didnt realize cars waiting in line were ordering right there till my vehicle was trapped in from barricades. I would think since being open this long they would finally have their act together but here we are July 4th and we've been waiting 20 minutes for our food. They are not busy there's maybe 3 people standing around waiting for their food and there's no ice in their ice machine so you have to ask someone to get ice. The yellow rose beer was nice a cold but I did have to ask for it after waiting for a few minutes and I didn't get it. I asked and they couldn't find my order and said it didn't go through, but I had been charged for it. Then they ignored me and continued to help other customers. Finally I insisted on getting my food and a guy filled my order. By then my granddaughter had finished her meal after 45 minutes of waiting. I checked the bag before I left the parking lot and they were missing all of the additional side I requested so I had to go back through the line. Taste/Flavor: It's not the best bbq but certainly not the worst I've had. The pulled pork was obviously sitting in sauce all day so it wouldn't dry out. The brisket was dry and the Turkey had a flavor that was not smoke but almost like propane. Think dickies quality. If you expect that and not Hutchins, flat rock or hard 8, you won't be disappointed. I'm legitimately not sure what people expect from this place. It's a bbq joint inside a grocery store, not a hipster restaurant where you take the family for dinner. For what it is, it's surprisingly good. We had brisket, ribs, pulled pork, and several sides. All of it was good. My only real complaint was that the lean brisket was a bit drier than I would have liked but it still had a good crust and flavor. Same story with the cornbread; it was a bit dry and it had jalapeño in it which wasn't listed anywhere before ordering. The ribs were honestly fantastic. As was the mac and cheese. There's no reason to come here as a stand-alone dinner, but if you want some good bbq before you do a grocery trip then you will not be disappointed. read more
