This is my second time here but the first time was several years ago. They have such a great reputation and we stopped for an early lunch around 1130 on a Friday. The decor is great and you smell the bbq that's imbedded in the walls when you walk in. A little surprised that it wasn't that busy but more table choices for us. I have to add its own of the more expensive bbq places. What I got here was $45 and no soda or dessert either. Honestly evaluation, I was less impressed than I was expecting. The brisket was slightly dry but did taste good. I also had the jalapeño sausage and it was just warm (not hot) and seemed to lack taste of good seasoning inside it. The beans were good but didn't blow me away. Quite an expensive lunch, to not be blown away.

I had just finished a book event in historic Downtown Plano, when a group of us decided to get a late lunch, and Lockhart Smokehouse was right next to the bookstore I was at. The decor of this place is fun, with all the old signs. The tables are real wood (some very heavy - I know because I pulled a couple of them together to make room for 10 of us to eat. And the fun part of tearing your napkins off the paper roll makes it feel like you're part of the event. The staff was more than nice to us. My husband and I had not been to this place before, and buying meats from the pound to feed a group took us a few minutes to figure out. Oh yes, we bought multiple pounds - all rolled into one bag, and then everyone gets however much meat they want. It's like having a picnic in a restaurant. And the staff walked us through the process, staying patient and kind while we ordered, and when we were finished they picked up after us as we sat there. Excellent service! And the Bar BQ - wow!!! The best I have eaten! Seriously, I am not over inflating this complement. I have several places I love to eat at - but this was truly the meats I have eaten!!!

Went and brought our visiting nephew and wife for lunch here. We ordered 2 lbs of brisket and beef rib. We shared it and also ordered sides, potato salad and Mac n cheese. The meats are outstanding. The potato salad is bland and didn't taste good. Friendly butchers/cashiers. Nice, well lighted and decorated bbq joint in downtown Plano.

First time at a Lockhart Smokehouse and I am a fan! Walking in the first thing no noticed was the ambiance. They have done a great job capturing a smokehouse feel when you walk in. From the wood floors to the neon beer signs, they got it down! The service was friendly and nice. These are down-home folks serving up food they are proud to stand behind and it beams through their personalities. The food was great. For the table we ordered brisket, turkey, and ribs. Everything was delicious. I look forward to coming back!

I do not always eat brisket in Texas, but when I do it's at Lockhart. 12 stars, maybe 45... Been coming here since 2014 and they give me no reason to ever go any other place. I mean I know there's many amazing world class barbecue joints in the Dallas area but why travel further than when you have to when Lockhart does everything to the infinite level of quality. You cannot find a better smoked brisket. They're housemates sausages are absolutely amazing. Exceptional taste and ridonculous crunch on the casing. Their sides are to die for. Unfortunately this time they didn't have their ghost pepper mac and cheese but I did get their brisket jalapeno smoked baked beans. I mean that's like one of the greatest sonnets ever spoken. Their pork ribs are absolutely on point they're smoked turkey breast is the most moist flavorful turkey breast you've ever had in your life and if you're lucky enough to get here early enough to get a dinosaur bone or beef rib is the locals would call it then you would count yourself in the elite echelon of people who have tasted things that only kings and queens have tasted. I love this place not only because they're smoked meats are off the chain but if you come here on a weeknight you have absolutely no problem getting in and out and you can go to some of the other well-known places and stand in line for an hour and spend twice as much. Do yourself a favor if you're ever in the North Dallas or Richardson area take a short trip over to Plano and have some of the best food or probably the best food you've ever had in your life. Don't tell your cardiologist about it he can just wonder why your cholesterol went up about 3000%, but I can promise you that any damage you do to your arteries is well worth the flavor that your mouth will taste.

Great food! Great service! The smoked chicken was awesome! Great atmosphere! I highly recommend for great BBQ!

brisket jalapeno bacon wrapped - very nice - best thing we had $5

Cute place with a lot of country vibe. VERY expensive - self service - no plates - eat on paper - For three people we spent $90 (no alcohol just food) - They were out of most things - brisket and ribs were about all they had. The brisket stuffed jalapeno bacon wrapped was very good and reasonable at $5 - everything else was greasy and just handed to you wrapped in paper for you to deal with. They took rustic to a new level. Ribs were OK - not the best I've had - Brisket was so greasy my wife had indigestion for 2 days. Pretty good sauce - more thick/tomatoey than typical. Nice selection of sides - a couple different slaws, deviled eggs, mac and cheese etc but all pre-packaged in a fridge - no telling how fresh it all was. Essentially I felt like I got really expensive food out of a fridge or slopped in paper wraps that was not the best BBQ around to justify the lack of "service". For the price, will not be going back

This place is amazing for its simplicity and flavorful food. The other day, on a Friday afternoon, my family and I just arrived to Plano and we were starving and ready for some food. We talked so much on the road about BBQ in the car, I thought let's search for any local BBQ restaurants. I found this restaurant on Yelp! and I'm so glad I did. 15 minutes from our hotel, but so delicious I would drive a little longer for this place. When we arrived, I noticed many locals seated and eating. Food looked and smelled phenomenal. We were immediately acknowledged and seated by our server/bartender and she explained how their menu works- all meat (brisket, chicken, etc.) are sold by the pound, except for their sausage (they have original and Jalapeño) which are sold individually at a set price. My party of 7 ordered a little taste of everything and we tasted off one another's plates. Our conclusion...no wonder they were voted Plano's Best! Some food that really stood out, in my opinion were the ribs (caramelized glaze and smokey flavor), their deviled eggs (had brisket mixed in the stuffing!) and their baked beans (had onion and smoked meat in the beans). We left satisfied and told anyone that would listen about this place lol. I highly recommend this restaurant if you're ever in the Plano/Richardson, TX area. Check them out

Awesome service but the brisket was dry! That's all. If you enjoy dry brisket this is the place to go. Mac and cheese was average. Honestly very disappointed. Was today just an off day? I don't know, but I won't be back.

Very nice aroma as entering the establishment. The Brisket and Pork Ribs, were excellent! Great service, sitting at the bar was a nice experience. Overall very nice experience- a little Pricey $$$

Oh and don't forget to ask for cornbread too. Inside tey had large tables and benches to sit at and we secured our spot. The food was delicous. The Beef Rib was huge and melted in my mouth. The brisket was amazing and seasoned well. Everything tasted great. Everyone ate til they were full and we still had leftovers. I ate them later at night and they were still good. This place is pricey, definitely worth a visit.

The food was good, if not the greatest BBQ I've ever had, but the overall experience was much fun. The restaurant is in the form of a large barn with ample seating and a walk-through line where you can pick out your meat and then any sides and drinks you'd like. I enjoyed having the "conundrum" of trying to figure out which of the meats to try as they stare at you from the smoker, all saying, "Pick me!" My first visit to any BBQ place is nearly always to try the pulled pork, figuring that if they can't get that right, nothing else is likely all that good. That's not always true, but since pulled pork is one of my favorites, it's a good approach anyway. :) I took my platter laden with an abundant amount of pulled pork and then selected corn on the cob, cole slaw, a slice of custard pie, and a sweet tea. After paying, I made my way into the main dining area and selected a high-top wooden table along the wall that was, shall we say, very awkward to sit at based on how the stationary stool was positioned in conjunction with the table, so I moved to a nearby regular table that was just fine. There's plenty of outdoor seating, but based on the temperature that day, I chose to stay inside. Digging in, I found the pulled pork to be good, but it was a little dry and salty. The standard house BBQ sauce was good, though, and the corn on the cob was very nice. The cole slaw was about what you'd expect, and the custard pie was tasty, even if it wasn't the best I'd ever had. The sweet tea was excellent. What I probably loved most, though, was eating all this in that environment, with the Texas-American paraphernalia hanging on the walls and a radio station playing nothing but 80s and 90s country music over the speakers--the years when I loved country the most. I wanted a BBQ experience as big as Texas while I was here, and I got that. For that reason, my visit to Hard Eight was a hit, and I will happily visit again on a future trip.
