Starting off with: if your on the way to HEB and need convenient food - it's not a bad choice.....but a reminder that eating good TX bbq is an experience, not something that should ever be rushed or convenient! Ribs/sausage/brisket - ribs were best, not great. Brisket was hard to chew. Mac cheese/cornbread/beans - cornbread was best Torpedo - wasn't horrible - but to much going in. Hard to beat just meat &cheese filled jalapeño with bacon - just to much going on with their version adding sausage and raspberry sauce. Cobbler - good flavor but was served cold Overall - like I said - eatable and it's chain bbq - so yea. I'm willing to wait for good food, so when we waited in line for 45min on a Monday night, I was expecting some solid bbq, so I was a little disappointed to find that it was just average. My husband and I ordered the pulled pork sandwich, chopped brisket sandwich, creamed corn and cornbread. We wanted the Mac n cheese, but they ran out a couple ppl before us. We enjoyed the bbq but the corn was lacking flavor and the cornbread was very dry and crumbly. When we received our order, we only received half. Thank goodness my husband checked before we left! When he went up to tell them we were missing a sandwich and dessert, someone else was also complaining of missing items in their order. Was scouting barbecue brisket because I needed 2 pounds for a post-Thanksgiving get-together. I was already in HEB so decided to try this out. I ordered a sandwich for $7.79 and the attached picture is what I got. It would barely feed a child and looks NOTHING like the "same" sandwich they have posted here on Yelp. The meat was cut too thick for its lack of tenderness (if the meat isn't fork tender then it needs to be cut thinner). Needless to say, while I ate the sandwich I decided to do something else for my $50 purchase of meat. I ended up at Hard-8 because it's only a few miles away and their stuff was really good. Omg! I've had a lot of bbq in my life and this was the worst ever! I agree with a lot of the reviews. Especially the reviews about the fat! I literally felt sick when I left. Mostly slimy, snotty fat with hardly any actual meat. Both of our sandwiches were mostly fat. They do it on purpose! That's a rip off. The thing that pisses me off most is what was charged for FAT! 15 for a small sandwich of fat and wonder bread! That's right! Wonder Bread. Good solid food product. We frequently stop in before shopping and grab a couple of pulled pork sandwiches. Excellent and a great value. Their cole slaw is outstanding. They recently moved from pumps for the bbq sauce to individual containers. They must have changed the recipe for the sauce as it is not as good as it was from the pumps. Suggestion to ownership. Keep looking for the right sauce. This one isn't it. At least as the spicy one goes. Also return to putting wipes out. Otherwise, great service and a great product for a reasonable cost. read more

You can call yourself True Texas BBQ, but this wasn't anything close to what a Texan would call barbecue. The half pound of burnt ends cane out in a small container. I bet it wasn't even a quarter of a pound, and they weren't burnt, ends, or even good. The half chicken was fatty, which usually means it's undercooked, and the rest was just eh. Next time I'm going to Hutchins or Flatrock. This sucked. read more

The ribs and potato salad are SO GOOD!! I tried it for the first time 2 days ago and I'll definitely be back. It was affordable and just overall good. The bbq sauce tasted kind of strange. Idk! And the wait time was a bit long, even after I downloaded the app and placed my order. I probably should have went inside but H-E-B is packed on Saturday. My wife and I came here for a quick lunch before grocery shopping at HEB. The Texas Brisket Cheesesteak was tasty, but the seasoning was not mixed well, some parts of the sandwich was too salty, while some had NO salt. The St. Louis Rob's was fantastic and the sausage was tasty. The strawberry cobbler did finish off the experience quite well. Elizabeth our cashier was pleasant and helpful. After a hearty endorsement by Texas Monthly, I was eager to try True Texas BBQ. The folks from Texas Monthly probably didn't have to wait almost 30 minutes to order at a brand new HEB. Had the BBQ been exceptional, I might not have minded the wait. The BBQ was decent, but nothing spectacular. There is much better BBQ available in Frisco. Sides were "meh"; with the Mac & cheese being OK. There was only 1 cashier working, and the line was at the back of the restaurant. I can't really recommend True Texas BBQ. Maybe I caught them on a bad day...who knows. read more

We were hoping for a better food experience here since it's only been opened for a couple days. The service was good and the line went by pretty quick but we did wait a bit for the food. We were hoping we had to wait because they cooking it fresh in the back unfortunately all our food was cold. We ordered brisket, ribs, Mac n cheese, cornbread, and a baked potato. The meat was literally cold, the sides were cold too like they had been sitting out for 15 minutes. The cornbread was burned and super dry I could barely eat a piece. We've eaten in-store and ordered to food to go numerous times and despite a few hiccups, this place has been great. They seem to have overcome some of their initial challenges (slow, not understanding what was sold out at the register, messy drink/sauce area, etc). They added a tablet based ordering system inside that shows what's in vs out of stock before you order. The brisket quality is outstanding, especially for a grocery store based restaurant. We had some of the best ribs yesterday (which was a former complaint of mine from this location). They have really upped their game lately and I commend their leadership for taking note of the issues and actually showing improvement. read more

I went shortly after they opened and the slice beef sandwich was terrific, juicy, smoky, tender. I went again on 1/2/23 and sandwich was not juicy, skimpy on meat, bbq sauce containers inside were empty, half the soda drink fountains were broken. I called and Raj gave me a refund on the sandwich the next visit. I went today to redeem my refund and they got my order wrong. Gave me chop beef instead of sliced. They fixed that and the slice beef was over salted and dry. Probably my last time going here. read more

The brisket tasted like it had been cooked off site, vacuum sealed and boiled in store. It was the wrong texture and didn't have much flavor. The burnt ends were soupy instead of coated. Overall it wasn't a pleasant experience and I won't be back except for the tea. read more

They need new leadership at the true Texas barbecue at the HEB in Plano Texas. After standing in line for 15 minutes I am informed they don't have any sausage and they don't have any macaroni and cheese. That's just poor management - not supply chain issues. The BBQ sliced brisket plate consisted of one slice of brisket. I've eaten at many BBQ restaurants in Texas, I expected so much more from a Texas icon. HEB is the first restaurant to serve a single slice of beef on on a BBQ "Plate". A single slice of brisket on a plate.... . Was that a mistake?. Tonight was our first time trying them. I know they've only been open a month but I was expecting more. We ordered to go. I spent $120 on ribs, two 3 meat plates, large sides, corn bread,bread pudding and banana pudding. I Was very disappointed. The cornbread was burnt and they should tell you it has jalapeños in it. Since it had honey butter I didn't think it would. Couldn't eat it. What is bbq without the sauce??? We didn't get any sauce, bread or pickles which we ordered. The food here is great. The chicken was moist and perfect. The pork ribs were tender with a hint of sweetness that blended well with the smoke. The brisket was moist with a great bark and smoke ring. The sausage was ok but to be honest, I've had sausage at bbq places ranging from Dickies to Blacks to Pecan Lodge to Franklins and sausage is sausage everywhere. Is this the best BBQ I've ever had? Not really. But for the price it is as good as anything I've had and miles better than any other "chain" restaurant. The staff still needs time to get their legs under them. The place is new and swamped beyond belief. Check your order before you leave. Things like sauce or bread may be forgotten. It would be nice it the tubs of sauce were labeled in some way to tell you which flavor it was to avoid the requisite finger dip and try. Waiting until more locations open up to take the pressure off this one location before I go back. But I will be back. read more

Tried the Smoked Brisket chili, and it was delicious!! A little heavy/greasy, but that's how chili should be in my opinion. Husband had the burnt ends and loved them. Son said the Mac and cheese was amazing!! Lost a star because they were out of so much (chicken, turkey, their specialty cobbler, banana pudding, etc).
