Nice little shop right within the Ritz Carlton at Northstar. It's incredibly convenient if you are staying at the Ritz Carlton as it is all within one place. They even have a pass "office" here, so you can buy your passes or get physical pass cards if needed. The shop has everything you need for skiing or snowboarding, including clothing, helmets, boots, goggles, gloves, etc. The selection isn't huge as the shop is small, but it's definitely good enough. I'm not sure if it was just this shop, but there were also no lines which is a huge bonus. They also offer the demo skis and boards if you're looking to rent nicer equipment. If you can, my suggestion is to rent from this shop. We were staying at the RC, but I don't think you need to in order to rent from here. read more

Went from a fine oiled machine last year, to a rickety car wreck this year. There are at least two teams working - and one of them can get something done, for that, thank you guys. The other, in part it's not their fault as it's the beginning of the season and they seem to be poorly trained, however their inattention to their own fellow staff members is sort of shocking. A cashier was trying for several minutes to get the attention of a group of ski techs - who were all huddled in a group, laughing and having a generally great time - which is awesome, great when you get along with your coworkers. The reason she had been trying to get their attention, was because one of them had not pressed the 'enter' button to send our final check out ticket to her machine. Tim H - extremely poor customer service on your end. I tried to get your guys' attention by saying, 'hey guys, is there anything we can do, to help us get out of here faster?', and yes that was louder than speaking voice but they were bellowing and laughing and couldn't hear us or the cashier the previous 5-6 times. I'm certain all this is on camera, it's the Ritz after all. Instead of acknowledging that the staff was being so aloof (or frankly, don't acknowledge it, they're your guys, I get it) but the fact that you had to step in behind the register, ask the clerk what the issue was, walk over to the group of techs, personally press a single 'enter' button because they couldn't hear you either, walk back to the register and sort the rest out.. and you chose to be hostile, which isn't particularly appreciated as we had been plenty patient throughout the process despite it taking the route it did. Recently my family and I were on vacation to ski in Tahoe. We had rented from a shop at the lake but the equipment i was on was sub par at best.. We decided to check out the shop at Ritz to see what they had to offer. The shop was beautiful and the staff went way above our expectations. I8 Erika's knowledge of not only what we were currently skiing on(rentals) but also what was in her inventory of demo rentals was impressive. We decided to go ahead and upgrade and it made the rest of the day amazingly fun.. The rest of the staff (Ben and Jordan, I believe) were so helpful and efficient. First time I've written a review. Here is my story. February of 2016 was the first time I had ever put on skis. Born and raised in the Zone ( Arizona). My buddy says that as an athlete I should not take a lesson. He will teach me. I agreed. Bad decision. I played college football for 4 years. Never, ever been hit that hard. Three runs down the Zephyr at Northstar was all it took for me to never want to ski again. Fast forward to last week. I found myself in the same ski shop. True North at the Ritz Carlton. I sat down on a bench inside and watched what was going on around me. I was getting ready to leave and never attempt to ski or step into a ski shop ever again. Skiing was a sport that just wasn't for me. As I was thinking that, a young man approached me. He asked if I was okay? He sensed my misgivings. He introduced himself as Alex. From that moment on Alex took care of everything. He got my equipment. He helped me set up a lesson. He explained what would happen throughout the process and what I could expect before and after my lesson. Alex was simply fantastic. My lesson was with Toby. I coach football and I am always trying to learn from others that teach or coach. Toby explained things exactly how I needed to be taught. I had an amazing day with Toby. I will seek her out again. She was magnificent. Alex hooked me up again on the next day. I skied with my girl. We took it easy to begin and ended the day on a blue run. Again, an amazing day. I can't thank Alex or Toby enough. I rarely post unless I feel utterly compelled to do so and I was so blown away by the service level at the ski shop at the Ritz that I needed to mention this. I was with two little boys (2 and 6), of which the younger refused and threw a tantrum about putting on ski gear for a private lesson I booked. I couldn't cancel: that's $600 lesson fee down the drain + $200 lift tickets + $300 equipment rental. Not only was service incredible when we got there to get us fitted and ready to go, but they all went out of the way to ensure me it's ok, and made all the calls necessary to request refunds from the instructor, ski gear rental, etc. That level of service alone makes me want to return. Even if it will be awhile; little one needs to grow a little bit more :-) Kudos to the 2 young gentleman working behind the counter and getting us fitted with the gear. And hats off to the manager who made stretching rules possible to make me a definite loyal customer. I wish I remembered their names :( read more

I've been to many rental shops but never had one this bad before. The people behind the counter were very courteous but the people managing the equipment had no organization. It took them almost half an hour to get their stuff together enough to rent me a helmet and poles. They had a disdainful demeanor and looked like they hated me. It's crazy how disparate the service level is across Vail's rental stores since the day before I had an amazing rental experience in South Lake Tahoe. Still, True North definitely left a bad taste in my mouth. read more

Our recent experience at True North/rentskis.com was truly suboptimal. The staff was inept, completely disorganized, glacially slow. We ordered and paid for our ski gear ahead of time, giving sizes, ability levels etc. When we arrived at the store, there were 4-5 employees there and 1 person ahead of us. While getting fitted, boot sizes that were supposedly "unavailable" would be subsequently "found" by another staff member. We had to fill out paperwork multiple times, despite giving them a full printout of our preordered gear. 1 1/2 hours later we finally walked out with (incorrectly sized and fitted) ski gear. Just to top it all off, when we got home, a phone message greeted us telling us we hadn't paid for the (prepaid) gear. A huge headache beginning to end. Other rentskis.com locations have been fabulous, of note the one in Berkeley, has superb staff. Don't touch this location in the Ritz with a ten foot (ski) pole. read more

I admit I was worried after reading the only other review, but we had to go for the convenience of it since we only had one day to ski. The staff was very helpful and friendly, including changing out ski colors for my daughter (she didn't want pink). Of course it is not inexpensive, but I thought the service was fine - brand new equipment at the beginning of the year, and several stations to help customers. It was a slow day, so not sure how things might work on a holiday weekend, but I would give them another try. read more

I don't write reviews very often unless something really stands out, and this stands out. I rented some equipment from the Ski Butlers and they forgot to switch out our equipment as requested. Two of the boys wanted to switch from skiing to snowboarding. So this morning as we went down to pick up the snowboards, the Ski Butlers did not have the requested equipment. They told us to go to True North and they would work out the billing with them. Long story short, it doesn't work that way. It turned out to be a mess instead. So I didn't have my wallet and on my word they rented the snowboards with the understanding that I'd come back later to settle up. I went back this evening to pay and I looked up Alex to finish up the transaction. He thanked me for being honest and said don't worry about the rental fee. These guys my be a little expensive, but i'd argue worth the extra $$$$$. Thank You for being awesome, and thank you Alex.... read more
