Perfect for date night! The decor is warm and inviting. The hostess was very professional and greeted us warmly upon walking in. Everyone working the front of the restaurant was dressed like they were on hot date! I noticed the cougar action at the bar but I think that is to be expected. ;-) Happy hour pricing on drinks before 7 pm were a great deal. The Blackberry Smash and strawberry margarita were delicious. Don't miss the mac n' cheese! It is so good and portions are huge. We had heard great things about this restaurant, so we made reservations and drove 30 miles to try it out. We were seated in the doorway going to the patio, so that every time someone went in or out, they had to squeeze around me, and it was so windy, we may as well have been sitting outside ourselves. Because our reservations were fairly late, we ordered an appetizer right away after being seated. It arrived after the main course, so we sent it back. The food was mediocre at best. We both ate about 1/3 of the serving. My wife had asked for some bread. It arrived as they were boxing up the remainder of the meal (which will probably be thrown out tomorrow). The manager came to the table to apologize for the "mix ups" and covered the cost of the meal. Personally, while I appreciate the gesture, I would much rather pay for a good experience than get a bad one for free. We were both very disappointed and will never go back. read more

I could write this entire review about the drink I had. Anybody who spends anytime at all on Yelp will realize what a rare thing that is. BlackSplash: Svedka Vodka, Freshly Sweetened Strawberries, Lemon, Balsamic Vinegar. This drink fell under the category of perfect blends. It didn't taste at all like straight alcohol, but you knew after about 1/2 of it that I was going to be falling on my behind if I drank the entire thing. So many people praise bars and restaurants for offering a "heavy pour"... which is so not perfect by any means. Sweet and strawberry, icey and lemony, with this slightly savory tickle of balsamic vinegar running down your throat. I have been having dreams about this drink all day long. I said I could write this entire review on just the Black Splash. I could and I might, but I will at least mention that I had the Shrimp Diablo Pizza, which was 3.75 stars good. It didn't rock my socks off. I tried a slice of Jenn's pizza. It was a full 4stars good. She didn't have the pleasure of tasting mine because it had Shrimp on it. The Philly Cheese Bruschetta... I'm gonna get nailed for this one... I didn't really think it was all that. Not enough cheese and I had a weird textured piece of meat on one of my slices. We have been here a few times as it's a great place for brunch. The food is always excellent! The Akashi Burgers are phenomenal, breakfast tacos are a touch of Santa Fe we love. The salmon eggs Benedict is by far one of my favorites! $2 mimosas are great and a steal! But I wrote this review today for our server. Garret was one of the best servers I have ever had. Always had a smile, he was kind, gentlemenly, always seemed to come by at the right time and knew his stuff. We will be back and we will be asking to be seated in his section. Overall..it is a bit overrated. First off, nearly everything on the menu is over $16. The Hummus appetizer was $11....for Hummus? I enjoy great meals at even better restaurants but normally the appetizers are cheaper than the entrees. The chicken was nearly the same price as the fish which was nearly the same price as the steak. For a Friday at 6PM it was packed and there were kids galore. Furthermore, our waiter had a huge table of over 10 ppl next to us so the service suffered. We didn't receive 2 drinks we ordered but after the waiter realized it they were comped including the dessert. The Shrimp Diablo pizza tasted better than it looked but if my wife didn't order the Mac and Cheese it would have been a bust. $70 for a pizza, mac and cheese and happy hour drinks with more citrus juice than liquor made the experience "meh". I would rather take my cash down to Jasper's or Zea... As we were leaving there were parents bringing their kids in from the local football game still in their uniforms while single ladies dressed for an evening out walked in....I don't get it. read more

OK, so I visited this place as a back-up to Petra, located in the same parking lot, that I just determined has CLOSED. Boo hoo... Moving along... So, went to TruFire for an early lunch...wow, very impressed with menu selection and quality of food. I had the chicken sandwich with the fig salad (definitely a keeper). The sandwich was a tad 'heavy' for me for a lunch portion (read: high in calories), but it was really, really good. Service ok, nothing exceptional but certainly adequate. A little pricey for a regular lunch haunt, but will have to come back for dinner at a later date. Hopefully these guys keep their rent payment current, lest they suffer same fate as Petra. read more

Decor is nice, you hesitate to walk in if you are in flip flops though. We were greeted instantly and taken to our table, a little two top stuck between 2 larger tables. I state this not because there is a little cramping but because the table literally was not big enough for the dish-ware. The greet by the waiter took a while, he brought ice water, bread and "room temp" butter which is a huge plus in my book. We ordered a bud light and a glass of Shiraz then took a while to comb the menu. Menu has a nice variety from Pizza, Prime Rib sandwich and Glazed Pork Shank. My Wife had the Mussels and I had the Pork Shank (arrive early for the pork, the waiter informed us they run out). Mussels were tasty in a garlic wine broth with four large pieces of toast. I wouldn't get this dish again. The Shank on the other hand was delicious. It came with a mixed green side salad with a light house vinaigrette and scalloped potatoes. I normally do not like salad dressing but this was light and tangy (the waiter did not know what was in it) but I ate it happily. Did not care for the potatoes, to cheesy not enough spice. The Shank itself came glazed with a sweet-tangy glaze and large enough for the both of us to share (along with the mussels). Over all I would go back, but the service needs to be improved, I will preface this by I have been in the restaurant business for over 16 years positions ranging from dishwasher to sommelier. The waitstaff is your guide through the restaurant and should now everything about the restaurant, again service is where I am picky but he did okay. read more

When looking up restaurants in Frisco, I saw this was listed towards to top in ratings so I thought I would try it with friends. I would have to say that overall it was a pretty good experience. For an appetizer, we ordered the fire charred artichoke. Well it was good, but really didn't know how to properly eat an artichoke that wasn't chopped. The part that we ate was good. We were too embarrassed to ask the waitress on how to eat the artichoke. If you know how to eat an artichoke, then totally order this!!! For the entree, I had the Diablo Cream Pasta. This dish definitely has a kick to it and that kick was awesome. One of my friends ordered the Trumac, and we didn't realize that it was just a fancy version of macaroni and cheese. She liked the dish, but she said that it was more cheese than pasta. Not a dish for people who are lactose intolerant!!! Well you could eat it, but I wouldn't want to sit next to you. Great food DOES exist in the 'burbs! :) I've been here a few times now and enjoy it more every time. Service is good, food is excellent, and if you plan ahead you can usually get a reservation pretty easily for a Saturday night! Oh and for those of you with dietary restrictions, there's a solid gluten-free menu as well!! What more could you ask for? Everything we've tried here so far has been on point. The last time we were there though, we made the mistake of ordering the crab dip appetizer - that stuff was like crack but I'll tell you, it's SUPER filling. By the time our actual entrees came, I could only have about 2 bites before I was done. You have been warned! The Trumac is always a winner as well, but I personally find it to be waaay to rich as an entree - just a personal preference. The chocolate dessert is super rich and pretty fabulous as well. Was treated to TruFire for my birthday. We had the crab dip which I thought was good. My date had one of the pizzas which was ok and I also enjoyed my ribeye sandwich. What I did NOT enjoy was the mac n cheese. It was really bland and uninspiring. I was highly disappointed as I'd read great reviews for it. Oh well, you win some and you lose some. The food was MUCH better than the service however. Our waitress had an attitude the ENTIRE night. She didn't crack a smile ONCE. I initially thought she had an issue serving black people (lol) but NOPE I observed her displaying that same foul funk with all her tables. Ugghhh someone fire this chick and put her out of her misery! I was also dissapointed with the manager. They offer free chocolate cake for your birthday but I'm allergic to chocolate. I requested another dessert and was refused. It pissed me off because we'd spent 100 bux by the end of the night (we had a few drinks too). I mean REALLY, we just dropped a nice chunk of change...I can't get a banana split??? Which brings me to my last complaint: I thought it was a little pricey for what we got... Overall, its a really cool vibe and the food is solid for the MOST part but I wouldnt return just because I felt somewhat slighted. Possibly my favorite date night restaurant in Frisco (your move, Bonnie Ruth!). Located in the Frisco-swanky Shops at Starwood, TruFire is upscale in decor and feel, yet manages to radiate casual comfort once you're inside. No, I wouldn't go in a ratty t-shirt, but I wouldn't dress it up too much either. Drinks were great - wife fell in love with her caramel apple martini (the insane, pulsing, creepy kind of love that has me questioning her fidelity), and the beers were cold and reasonably priced. Bartenders and servers were polished and prompt, yet still warm and friendly. The Latin Fire Pizza was perfectly spicy and full of great flavors, and the TruMac mac & cheese (yeah, I know) is something to behold. The flatbread sirloin app was also a winner. Honestly, there's little I'd change about our experience. TruFire is in this great middle ground of big night out place and everyday upscale. You can really dictate the meal based on your mood and the occasion.... it's as fancy (or not) as you want it to be, and the food & service is spot on. read more

Tried this place for the first time today with a friend for lunch. I had heard lots of good reviews from friends and clients, and also saw that they have a whole gluten free menu, which made me very happy as I have an intolerance to that stuff. We showed up and stood by the host stand for a few minutes with no help and no host in sight. Finally flagged someone down and got a table. So not a great start as far as service, then continued with a very lack luster server. Maybe she was having a bad day.. The GF menu looked good, even had sandwiches! But when the server was explaining that to me she let me know that its a sandwich with no GF bread, basically just a pile of stuff. But whatever, I got the naked avocado salad with chicken on romaine. I got my salad without the chicken I requested, and asked her to bring me some. Somewhere in between ordering specifically GF food and confirming with her, she brought me chicken that must have been marinated in something, cause it made me sick. After conversation and confirmation! So that's a bummer. And I'm nauseous. The 2 stars are for nice ambiance and the salad was good, except the chicken. Which was also dry on top of being non GF. On Friday night arrived around 7:30 PM. We were seated w/in 10 mins. Hostess suggested the turkey burger and chicken & sausage pasta. We ordered both. My son ordered Tru Mac. All 3 were very good. The sweet potato fries w/the turkey burger were cut too thick for my liking and kind of mushy, but the burger made up for the fat, mushy fries. Ketchup - homemade and should be mass produced and sold in stores. Loved it. Desserts - lemon cake with cream and blueberries. Cake was dry. Wouldn't recommend it. Flourless chocolate cake with chocolate ice cream. My son appeared to love it. To Go - we ordered chicken parm for my son who couldn't meet us. Portion enormous and enough to share. My son liked it, but said it was too heavy on the salt. So heavy on the salt that he woke up in the early AM in desperate need of water. Noise level - loud. Go ahead eat the leftover Caprese salad with chicken for lunch. The marinated mozzarella is devine and I think you'll agree the tomatoes are the best you've had in a long time. I can't comment on too many things about TruFire, but get The Crock. Actually, I think they renamed it, but it is a pasta dish inside of a ceramic type pot. It has a cream sauce and is filled with broccoli and shrimp. I just looked at their website, and I think it is now called the Rigatoni S&S. A warm, charming escape on a chilly Texas eve. Met up with some friends here after loving the Yelp reviews and brightly lit photos. The drink menu is totally unique, and we were all drooling over the concoctions! I had two caramel apple martinis. Utterly delicious. You could taste the fresh apple, and the sweetness of the caramel offset it just perfectly. I went with a salad for my main meal, Mediterranean Shrimp Salad. Huge & delicious, but I had no trouble polishing it off. Service was friendly, but we lingered a long time catching up, and I'm not sure he loved us being there. Checked on us over and over. I just moved to the area, and the dining options are slightly limited in the immediate area (0-15 min). We booked reservations to celebrate our move based upon reviews, and we were not at all disappointed. We arrived about 5 minutes before happy hour ended, but our waiter hustled to get our drink and apps. in before the system locked out. All in all, we ordered a Latin fire pizza, avocado salad, meatballs and macaroni and cheese. Portions were generous (we took home a bit of everything), prices were very reasonable and service was very good. Some of these other reviews seems to be a bit harsh and overly critical, we enjoyed ourselves and will definitely be back. If I were to give my personal improvement comments: a bit more lighting, it was a little dark on an overcast day. Someone was a bit heavy handed with the Parmesan cheese on the macaroni. If you are in the area, definitely add it to your list of places to try. I would recommend the avocado salad as a refreshing appetizer for spring/summer. read more

You WILL need a reservation to get in on a Friday or Saturday night. But either way, the wait will be worth it. I've never been disappointed by a meal here. They make their own special sauce that goes with burgers and fries that most certainly has crack in it because there's no other logical explanation for why it's so delicious. Stopped in around 5:00 on Sunday for a cocktail and snack and found out they have happy hour everyday from 3:00-6:00. Three dollars off their specialty cocktails, three $5 appetizers, and they even had draft Shiner for $1. We each tried two specialty cocktails and all were great. The mango one with jalapeños was the perfect blend of spicy with a touch of sweet. Also tried a concoction with pear and ginger that was great. My boyfriend had a pomegranate drink that was great as well as a really refreshing one with cucumber. Kevin, our bartender, was fantastic. It was his first shift behind the bar but we never had a clue. They were busy and he was training another bartender and was on top of everything. He's been at Tru Fire for about a year and he'd been our server before and always does a great job. We got the cheese plate and meatball appetizers and loved them both. The cheese plate is a perfect light snack, especially for only $5. The meatballs were more substantial and we were full after about half of the dish but we had to finish them because they were so good. Definitely keep this on your happy hour radar. read more

What a beautiful place with delicious food! The atmosphere is exactly what we were looking for. The lighting was dimmed slightly and the jazz music was at the perfect volume to provide privacy for talking at our table without being overheard by other tables. The hummus and veggie appetizer was fresh and tasty. I had the sirloin sandwich with Caesar while my husband had the salad with figs and roasted pears and he added grilled chicken. He is a connoisseur of salads and felt this one was perhaps one of the best he had ever found. Our very picky boy felt the shoestring fries and cheese pizza were great. Our waiter was friendly with perfect suggestions to make our meal even better. The host advised us that as the evening went on having reservations would be wise. I wouldn't recommend it any more than the Trumac. With the different layers of flavor from the cheeses, it's real good! Dessert was a chocolate brownie with a dollop of ice cream. Very sweet -- wish I had ordered a glass of milk with it! Service was great -- very attentive even as we sat away from his usual tables in the patio. Had great recommendations as well. This is one the best non-chain restaurants in Frisco. The food is fresh, creative and full of flavor. We had the avocado salad and the Latin pizza. The avocado salad was a mix of firm avocados, sweet tomatoes and crispy bacon, all surrounded with warm pita bread triangles. The Latin pizza had two sauces: a warm red diablo under the melted cheese that had a good kick and a creamy green poblano sauce that was more of a finishing touch. Both pair beautifully with the thinly sliced steak and fresh cilantro. Service was fast yet paced. This is a great place for and impromptu date or a night out with friends but is also a family friendly restaurant during the day with great kid approved items under $5. read more

I'm a sucker for a full-bodied spicy cab in the right vessel and their wines by the glass did not disappoint. Neither did the service. We ordered the crab dip, Latin fire pizza, burger and molten chocolate cake. The boys shared their Mac and cheese. All were delicious except for the crab dip. The gin/cucumber/orange martini is supremely amazing. Pizza phenom, thin, crispy, little burnt around the edges.. The meatball pizza was my favorite. Yum. Mussels are great, calamari great, aoli even better. To top all this off the first tome we went we had reservations for 12, and it was a few mins longer of a wait -- so they brought out 2 free apps for the table. Nice. Also we were a big group of people, all on different tabs, and everything was still billed right, and with great service. Second time we went it was a table for four and spot on service then as well.
