The day before we moved, our realtor received a phone call from the buyers realtor stating that the cost of the roof went up to $25,000! We had a persistent roof leak in our bedroom that worsened with every storm. We called Vince, who…read moreinspected the area & recommended a patch job. After the first repair, it leaked again. Vince returned, "resealed" & added tiles. Next rain--no leak. We thought it was resolved. Another storm, leak returned. Vince came back, "expanded the area," resealed, & retiled again. This cycle repeated. Frustrated but appreciative that he kept returning to fix it--until the next big storm. This time, the leak came back worse, with 3 leak points instead of 1. We gave up & hired a new roofer. Best decision we made! The new roofer found 3 separate active leaks & rotted wood beneath the tiles. He was shocked that this was missed. The wood was so decayed the nails weren't even holding. No real inspection, no proper fix, just slapdash patches on a failing structure. Bottom line: this issue could've been caught and resolved correctly. We wasted time & money. If you've hired Universal--double check their work!

Our project began the week of June 8. We were initially told the siding would take about a week to complete and that the windows would be installed in one day once they arrived. Unfortunately, that timeline was never met. Shortly after the siding project started, we were told the crew had run out of materials. From there, the project was delayed multiple times. The windows arrived, and I took time off work for the scheduled installation and then received a call the night before saying the crew wouldn't be coming. We were given several new installation dates, but each one came and went without anyone showing up. Throughout the process, communication was disappointing. We often had to repeatedly call for updates, many calls went unanswered or to voicemail, and we were frequently given conflicting information. It felt like we had to chase someone down just to find out what was happening with our own project. Due to the conflicting information given, they agreed to put siding at the top of the front porch, however they did not. I have holes in the walls in the inside of my home where they put the nails in the siding, when I brought this to their attention, they said there was nothing they could do about it, that that was a common issue. Before I agreed to go with this company I was told they had insurance for any issues they caused but was then told the holes in the walls were something they would not fix. In the end, Home Genius did complete the siding and window installation almost 2 months later. However, the weeks of delays, missed commitments, lack of communication, and the inconvenience of having an unfinished home, made what should have been an exciting home improvement project far more stressful than it needed to be. I would not recommend this company to do any siding or window work based on my experience. Update to previous review I came home this morning to my siding falling off of my home. I have reached out to several people including the project manager, the sales rep, the project managers manager and the 800 number to let them know. I provided him with all the details that the insurance company had given me, and he reiterated that he was the right person for the job. However, during our conversation with Jay, my wife signed a contract with the other company without knowing that I was seeking this alternative bid. Consequently, I found myself under contract with the other company. Jay informed me that I had three days to cancel that contract, and if I did, he could start the job immediately. After having several conversations with my wife, I decided to cancel the first contract. The next morning, I called Jay and left a message stating that the previous contract had been canceled and that we were ready to proceed with his company. I asked him to let me know what steps we needed to take to set the job start date. I did not hear from Jay for over six hours when I called him again and explained that I was ready to move forward with his company. To my surprise, he responded that there was no reason to return my first call because the job did not pay enough for him to be interested in it. He even suggested that if I could convince the insurance company to increase its payment, he would call me back. I was shocked and felt betrayed. Now, without a roofer, I had burned the first bridge and foolishly believed in his lies and deceitfulness. Today, I am without a roof or roofer, but I am determined to find a solution.
