I normally do not write reviews, but my recent experience with this company was unprofessional, misleading, and deeply disappointing and I feel obligated to warn other homeowners, especially those using American Home Shield. I also plan to post this review in as many places as I can to warn other customers. A young Black male technician (around 5'10-5'11, with a beard) came to my home in Bowie, Maryland to diagnose an airflow issue with my furnace and ductwork. I was present the entire time, asked questions, and watched every step he performed. From the moment he arrived, he seemed rushed and eager to get to his next job, which already raised concerns about whether he intended to fully diagnose the issue. He removed the furnace panel, adjusted internal components, and stated that my airflow had been set to "low," which he then changed to "high." Despite this, the airflow in multiple vents did not improve. He told me that he would submit a work order for a further duct inspection involving a camera, something that is absolutely necessary for my situation. However, when I checked my American Home Shield portal a week later, the job had been marked completed, even though no additional work was performed. I contacted the company directly and the receptionist stated they do not put in work orders and she doesn't know why the tech told me this. She said I must reach to the home warranty company. When I contacted my warranty company, I learned that the technician documented something completely false: he wrote that there were no dampers or airflow controls present, and therefore my warranty would not cover additional work. This was untrue and directly contradicted what he physically adjusted in front of me. It is extremely concerning that the technician not only failed to perform the required diagnosis but also submitted inaccurate information that would negatively impact my claim. In addition to the inaccurate notes, his behavior in my home was unprofessional. He made flirty comments and attempted to be overly personable in a way that felt inappropriate and distracting. Looking back, it seems like an attempt to rush through the service without doing legitimate diagnostic work, assuming I would not question him. That is unacceptable. I should not have to spend my time appealing a work order that was both incomplete and falsely reported. I have no reason to lie about HVAC work performed in my own home. My only goal is to get a functioning heating system, and instead, I am dealing with dishonesty and wasted time. My warranty company is now in the process of reviewing the technician's report and may send a second contractor because of these discrepancies. The fact that I even have to seek a second opinion speaks volumes about the lack of integrity in the work I received. If the owner reads this: please pay close attention to this technician. His behavior and dishonesty can destroy a company's reputation. Homeowners depend on accurate diagnostics and honest reporting, especially when working through warranty companies where we do not get to choose who is assigned to us. I hope this review helps other customers make informed decisions. I also hope the company takes corrective action, because experiences like this are exactly why people lose trust in service providers. I will now record my entire interaction with any service providers coming to my home to perform any work. read more

Amateur service technician who did not understand the workings of the home HVAC system. Did not know how to look for a freon leak; when asked, claimed his freon detector was broken and then sprayed some soapy water on a small portion of outdoor coils. Had to call the office to receive instructions. When we went to check on him, he had left without communicating anything to us. The service manager later claimed the service was done by their HVAC professional. I do not recommend them. read more

Tru Tech Heating and Cooling LLC is an awesome company. This company is professionalism and competence in the highest order at every level. The owner, Lawrence was very approachable,a consummate high level manager who is detail and customer oriented. The journeyman level technicians , Keith and Michael are top notched knowledgeable and highly skilled professionals who are at the of their craft. Keith initially arrived on time, was extremely polite and quickly diagnosed my problem as a failed heat pump defrost control board. He later explained the problem and next steps to me. He disengaged the the board wiring so that I would have cool air until the replacement board was ordered. Within a couple of days a new defrost control board had arrived,thanks the quick transmission by Keith of the diagnosed problem. Within a couple of days, a equally competent, caring and highly trained technician Michael arrived and in short order installed the new and updated defrost control board of my seasoned York central AC unit. I now have a fully functioning HVAC unit again. Thank you Lawrence, Keith and Michael for your no nonsense commitment to excellence. TruTech ownership needs to either hire more experienced technicians or provide evidence of the actual issue they've diagnosed when it comes to repair. I like previous reviews was assigned this contractor through American Home Shield, did not experience the best customer service and wrongly assumed a furnace replacement was needed which was a large out of pocket expense based on the write up of the installation of said replacement unit. I was unable to retrieve photos of the broken heat exchanger even though the video I was shown during the service visit was specifically for a flame blowout at the gas nozzle. Tru tech did not offer to send me the same video or photos or revisit my property to ensure the danger of said broken heat exchanger. Another company diagnosed the issue which more than likely could have been identified during the service visit which was light cleaning. I will not be using Tru tech again in the future. read more

We've been using trutech heating and cooling for years now, both at our old house and new one. They've always successfully diagnosed any issues we've been having, from a broken air conditioner to a busted gas valve on our furnace. We also use them 1-2 times a year for a heater/ac check up. I've always found them professional and to the point. Price wise their fixes are also always reasonable. It also feels great to be working with a family owned company. Horrible experience twice...they were dispatched to my home by AHS, my home warranty company. The first time, the technician said that my unit was completely out of freon and recommended a new unit. The company owner endorsed this opinion and explained the cost. I was not convinced. AHS sent another company who found, not only was the unit NOT out of Freon, but it was still in good condition. Thousands of dollars saved! Over a year later...AHS dispatched them again. I didn't recognize the name immediately. Unfortunately, while the technician fixed the clog, he damaged the drywall, leaving a hole in my wall where he sat down and leaned into the wall with his full body weight, with a gauge in his back pocket. Disappointingly, the owner refused to fix the damage. AHS sent another contractor out, who verified the damage, and AHS paid for the repair. My HVAC unit stopped working, and Tru Tech was dispatched by my home warranty company to come examine it. The outdoor part of the unit is on the roof of my building, and it is accessible with a 10-foot ladder. The technician didn't have a ladder tall enough to reach the roof. 1) Roof units are not uncommon. 2) If they're not uncommon, you would think an HVAC repair company would have ladders capable of reaching roofs, especially low ones. AHS sent Tru Tech to evaluate our HVAC ductwork after another company said they don't work with warranty companies for ductwork, even though it is covered. The person Tru Tech sent over was scared to get into the attic to evaluate the ducts (which we had seen ourselves had become disconnected). He called the supervisor constantly, uncertain of what to do, and then submitted some bogus evaluation to AHS so that we would have to pay them more out of pocket. We had someone else come out the next day who told us their diagnosis was completely false, and repaired it. Basically, Tru Tech didn't want to get the contracted rate for what should have been covered and falsified the diagnosis. read more

The two highly experienced techs TruTech sent, Daquan B. and another gentleman, were extremely professional, super polite, very focused, and clearly, took pride in their work. I was tremendously impressed by these young men and their wealth of knowledge / subject-matter expertise. Thanks to David and Tru Tech, we have heat again in our house! Last Saturday evening my husband and I realized that the heat hadn't come on in our (new to us) house in a little while. We tried adjusting the thermostat, but only the furnace would turn on, the system never started pushing warm air (or any air) out of the vents. At first we thought it was related to the new Nest thermostat we'd hooked up earlier that day, but after working with someone from Nest via Twitter on Sunday, we determined that it was something else. I called our home warranty company, HMS, and I selected the first available appointment option: Monday, 8am-4pm. I tried to call Tru Tech to confirm a time, but the office is closed on Sundays. Soon after 8am on Monday, someone from Tru Tech called to confirm our appointment-- but for 2-7pm on Tuesday, not for Monday. I was annoyed that HMS had given me a false option the day before, and I was unhappy to go even longer without heat in our house (we did buy 2 small space heaters to take the edge off the cold). Frustrations with the booking process aside, the service from David on Tuesday was perfect. He called before arriving, he promptly diagnosed and fixed the problem (a pressure switch), and I was all paid up within an hour of him arriving (by credit card, no additional fee). He was patient with my questions and gave clear answers. He was just really friendly and conscientious overall. For example, he was coming out the front door as I was getting home (my husband was already there), and he immediately introduced himself. read more

I called and requested your service because I brought my furnace from your establishment and you installed it. I called four times but your technicians came out three times for the same problem and each time a different technician came out with a different story as to why it's not working. I stayed and watched what they were doing which they hit the switch to restart the system and when the furnace came on they watch for a couple of minutes and it did not go out so they thought the furnace was up and running until the sun went down so did my furnace and it so happened to be the coldest days of the winter thus far. read more

No reason given to me but isn't Tru Tech a company in DC? And why turn down a work order from AHS. I won't change this one star until I am given a valid reason for denying service. The owner was professional enough to call me immediately after reading the review. He truly impressed me on his willingness to take time to explain the issue on not being able to get to my request via AHS. If his company and employees take the risk to continue servicing multifamily homes/conds, I would gladly call Tru Tech to service my condos in DC. TruTech Heating & Cooling recently came out to replace my Central AC & I have to say that they did an outstanding job. They were assigned to my home through my home warranty: American Home Shield. The first time the technician (Dave) came out he explained everything that he was doing and what the next steps would be moving forward. Within a few hours, the receptionist from TruTech called me and scheduled an appointment to replace my system and do a pre heating service check. The following week, Steve and Troy came out and thoroughly took their time to work on my unit. They were friendly and educated me about the new system. Not one time did I feel as if I was being taken advantage of and I felt comfortable having them working in my home. I had excellent service from Michael. I had the same reoccurring issue with my furnace for a year and I had another contracted company with my warranty company AHS come out, and they could never get the issue fixed. Michael from TruTech spent more time than I was used to diagnosing the problem, asking the right questions and was able to fix the issue. Within less than 24 hours the right part was ordered and issue that had been plaguing me for an entire year was fixed. I was relieved and thrilled. He is a good listener and he took great pictures and explained the issue very well. TruTech Heating and Cooling works fast and efficient and they communicate very well. They answer calls in a timely manner and schedule appointments quick. Great techs and administrators make a great company. I would give them 10 stars if I could. Two words- HIGH QUALITY. Our new home was burglarized shortly after we closed leaving us with a missing AC condenser unit (the outside portion). Thankfully our insurance covered it but we thought we would get fleeced by the few companies we had sought to replace the condenser. Luckily I remembered the quality work Tru Tech had completed at my old house so I reached out to them. Tru Tech team came through with an estimate well within the insurance claim amounts without us even sharing that number. It's 23 degrees outside and Trutech Heating & Cooling wouldn't take a bird out my furnace without paying an additional $250; furthermore, saying that's all thats wrong with the unit. They also tried to place blame on AHS saying they wouldn't cover it....when it's really their choice. I know how to read a contract. I was really excited to have a company in the neighborhood too. Very disappointed with this company, who was recognized by our congresswoman, not being a better fellow to humanity and customers in their immediate community. read more

Thank God for my home warranty and Tru Tech technician Troy :-) The air went out in my house on this, the hottest week in August. The unit would come on but it would blow warm/room temp air. My air conditioning unit died and appeared to have a leak or need a charge, what do I know, so I signaled for help. First, a friend of a friend of a friend came out to inspect, and assured me that he could find and stop the leak. He disappeared. Next, I called a large HVAC company that has a catchy jingle in their commercials. They were a no-show (and had terrible reviews, anyway). I then contacted 4 more companies - none of which could consult soon enough. I finally, desperately asked for recommendations on Facebook, and was referred to Tru Tech. Thank goodness for Tru Tech. They ultimately recommended I replace the entire system. They consulted on a Saturday, replaced the system within 4 hours the following Wednesday, on the hottest day of the year so far. They were prompt, patient, professional, explained what, when, why, and how. I've recommended them to my neighbors and anyone who will listen. I have air now, so I'm happy. read more

We had our ancient boiler go out over the weekend and boy was it cold. We got connected with Tru Tech through our homeowner's warranty and they did a great job. The tech who came over to fix on Monday was named Vincent, and he was fast and efficient. Got the boiler working again no problem. I submitted a claim through my home warranty company for an issue with my HVAC system and Tru Tech was dispatched. The professionalism from the initial call to the installation of my new unit was exceptional. They were always on time or early for my appointments, processed my claim very quickly, explained what would be covered and what would not, explained the new system and any modifications that needed to be done, finished timely and made sure my house was cleaned of any debris when they left. It rained the day of installation so to avoid tracking mud into my house the technician put his shirt on the floor to act as a rug. It's the little things that make you want to refer a company to family and friends. With that being said I would definitely refer TruTech to everyone I know. read more

Tru Tech was assigned by my home warranty company. Since I've had issues in the past with my furnace, I took the liberty of cleaning the lighter wand and recording a video. Then sent to the company. When the owner of the company contacted me, I wanted to have an educated conversation with him on what he thought could potentially be the problem and if there were any small things I could do. He immediately went into "we advise homeowners not to touch the appliance"...OK but even my home warranty company will advise that you should check to see if the ignitor is on before calling to avoid paying. So I ask him again to have an educating conversation with me because this isn't the first time I've experienced this issue. His repetitive remarks back to me were that "Your furnace needs servicing because it isn't working." Well I know that smart one. Instead of treating me like a person of some intelligence, this Owner acted like he didn't want to have this discussion or learn about the history of my furnace. Next time, try taking the time and patience to talk to a home owner! Needless to say, we both decided to find someone else to repair my furnace. I found another who took the liberty to look at the video and talk to me like I was of intelligence and sound mind about the possibilities of my furnace. Hell, I did build the damn house!! read more

This is a response to the response I received on my review. There are a couple of parts I agree on and some parts I do not. Agree: Thank you for owning up to the false information provided regarding part disposal. You are also right that your techs were always courteous and professional from a standpoint of behavior. Disagree: Regarding evap coil brands. I am aware that a coil CAN work as long as the tonnage is matched. For our RHEEM part, the exact matching coil part number was no longer available because it had copper piping, however, a new, fully equivalent version was available with aluminum piping. This was what the company that repaired my system(~20 years working with HMS) used, without us having to tell them to. Your company claimed there was no equivalent part available, which was verifiably false. This other company was one of the two separate companies that described your company's proposed plan as a ridiculous abuse of the Home Warranty-customer relationship, breaching contract by trying to force me to pay for repairs to a system that is covered, under the guise of "upgrades/modifications", which were actually necessitated by your company's decision to use the wrong part, even though an equivalent part was readily available and the home warranty specifically stipulates that the equivalent part is to be used when available. The Goodman coil had different positions for the refrigerant and drainage lines, which required multiple counts of line work and subsequent duct work to be done. As I said before, your techs gave me incorrect information over the phone, not just about the disposal, but about this as well, telling me specifically that the equivalent RHEEM part with the ports in the right places would also require these modifications, which is, again, verifiably false. The higher level HMS employee(~25 years with HMS) that I talked to told me he would not have authorized the job that your techs somehow acquired authorization to do. In direct comparison with the repair I eventually obtained through careful review of the contract and escalation through HMS, your company tried to get 900 dollars out of me for a non-equivalent part, along with unnecessary modifications to the system(and the disposal fee). Just because one low level HMS employee OKed this, possibly with the same false information I was given, does not mean the contract is being correctly honored. The higher level employees honored the contract correctly and fixed the system for 0 cost. Regarding timely repairs, something I refrained from mentioning in my first post were the earlier visits we scheduled with Trutech over a leaky valve on the same HMS contract. You sent over a tech in a timely manner the first time, but they were not able to fix the valve, and told us they would call us back when they figured out how to do it. They then put us in limbo, telling us they needed authorization to fix the valve, while HMS told us the real situation was that your techs had never even asked for authorization in the first place. HMS wound up sending a different company to fix it because your company completely stonewalled us. So I have to completely disagree about your assertion that timeliness can be expected from your company, given the result of that first job. Instead of dropping a list of credentials, attempting to make your customer sound clueless, and discrediting your customer's evidenced concerns, perhaps an attempt to address the problems in the conduct(not behavior, just truthfulness/knowledge/correctness) of your employees would be more constructive. read more

Tru Tech Heating and Cooling has been one of the worst experiences with "professionals" in my life thus far. I have a leaking AC unit and have been chasing Tru Tech down for about 1.5 months to get them to fix what they started. They came the first time and said they had to order a part. Didn't hear from them for about 2 weeks, they came and ordered the wrong part. They came back with the right part 2 weeks later (after not keeping me in the loop about time) and the "right part" didn't even fix the problem, still leaking. We had already paid them at this point and had to track them down to come and finish the job. Organized a time on Saturday night from 2-7pm for my appointment. They call me at 5:50pm and I miss the call by about 4 seconds. I proceed to call right back and get no answer. I call again at 6:00, 6:20, 6:40, and leave a voicemail and send a text message. Nothing. No show. They make you wait for 5 hours at a time with no heads up and act in completely unprofessional ways like this, I have yet to hear back from them and my unit is still leaking and damaging the floor. Lawrence specifically is the person I was communicating with. Horrible professionalism, highly recommend going anywhere else humanly possible. read more

TruTech and Lawrence Kitching himself who served as my tech told me he would replace my HVAC through my home warranty after I waited on them 1.5 weeks to get a part installed and never called back. I called for three days straight just to find out finally after insisting I talk to someone that Lawrence Ktiching opted "not to honor" the offer he gave me looking me in my face at my home telling me it could be done within the week. He never called back to say so leaving me at 4 weeks in 90 degree weather and there was no reason given other than a conversation I had with him about electrical issues led him to not want to give me a new system. I am giving Tru Tech Heating and Cooling 5 stars, because after spending the night in a house at 50 degrees I called my home appliance insurance company and they scheduled Tru Tech, even though they gave me a window between 2 to 7, I don't care because when they showed up at my house the service guy was pleasant, and listen to my complaints and got to work installing a new thermostat one that didn't require batteries so I will never have to touch for maintenance to change a battery, which is why my old thermostat no longer worked, because after taking off the cover several times over 7 years it got loose from the wall, this won't be a problem ever again. My house is nice an warm, and I can now do something other than hide out under a mountain of blankets. Not sure if they accept credit cards, I gave them a check, but they probably do, because I signed an electronic receipt, so I will answer that as yes, but please confirm with Tru Tech. read more

I gave TruTech Heating and Air Conditioning 5 stars because they they are the best at it in this area. I have had them come to my home twice and at both times have had prompt,courteous and professional service. The technician (Troy) that came to my home was very courteous down to earth and got down to business with getting me some heat because I had heaters plugged up everywhere..lol. I like when you have technicians that come to your home and are very cordial and converse and not make it seem like it is just a business transaction. The technicians make you feel that they may be an old friend or family member and not like these other Mass Productive Big Business type companies where it's not about quality but about quantity$$$$$ with TruTech it's all about quality service and that is why I love this company. If you ever need HVAC service call TruTech they are who you need and who you want and I gurantee that you will be a repeat customer like me, because in all fairness we must support our small business' read more
