Great menu options! The steak salad was very filling and fresh. The happy hour pricing made it easier to eat healthy and organic on the go without breaking the bank. Service was adequate but the food is the real star here. The candied walnuts were beyond amazing! We got our coffees, a couple came in after us, we ordered, coffees were empty for a while, other couple got their food ordered, received, and paid/left before we got our food (we ordered meat omelet, nothing complicated), took a long time to get the check and another table started wondering about their check as well, both of us just gave our cards immediately and getting our cards back was probably the best timing of the entire process. Might be better with less people there but a person walking around with a coffee pot at the ready would've alleviated a busy Saturday morning of slow food orders due to being busy. read more

Cute little cafe across the street from the very busy desert ridge. My friend and I went here for brunch and we both really enjoyed the food. I got the breakfast quesadilla (YUM) and she got the Hawaiian breakfast (SUPER YUM). I base my restaurant reviews typically about the food. Why not give 5 stars? 1) We sat at a small table right against the front window, which at first I enjoyed, that was until all the flies kept buzzing around us and doing what they do, incessantly headband against the window. 2) It was rather warm inside. Yes, we do live in AZ, but the inside of a restaurant is typically our escape from the heat. I love that they have a patio for extra seating because seating inside accommodates maybe 30 people (that's with the bar seating), but it's summer now and the heat was definitely making its way through the open doors to the patio. 3) They charge you if you want to split a check. I haven't been to a place that does that, but I'm sure there's a reason for it that I'm unaware of. My tips if you're considering trying out Tryst? Avoid the window table, choose the bar or a table closer to the middle where flies are buzzing and you're away from the patio doors (mainly during summer). As for avoiding the split check charge, tell them in advance you'd like to be on separate checks, or bring cash! read more

We had seen the good reviews and TV program on "Check Please, Az" about this cafe. We also have a need for gluten free and organic. However, our overall experience was lackluster, at best, and honestly, our assessment of this Cafe is that is "smoke and mirrors". When a restaurant advertises itself as "organic", there needs to be a requirement that said restaurant, in our opinion, offers a certain percentage of it's menu as organic. We found that little, if any, of the offerings at Tryst Cafe were organic on the day we visited. Not only were the organic offerings virtually non-existent, but GMO's were running rampant, and gluten free offerings were confusing, at best. For example, there was the mention of gluten free French Fries on the menu, but when the owner brought us the clearly battered fries, she cautioned us that they were NOT gluten Free. Then our server comes by and mentions that the fries have NO breading, and are just potatoes, but "a concern might be that they are fried in the same fryers" as the wheat stuff. What is a diner to think? What is a diner to do? That said, we had traveled great distance to Tryst Cafe from out of the area, and with reasonable expectations for an "organic, gluten free" restaurant. However we both became ill following our experience, and one of us has celiac disease and can have NO gluten. It seemed pretty clear that there had been gluten ingested. Not a positive experience in the least! We will not be returning to Tryst. read more

Their fries are so delicious!!! The ranch was ok. I was pretty excited to try the Kalua Pork sandwich. It was good but not great. It was a little salty and I expected a sweetness (i.e. BBQ ish) but it wasn't. The quality of the meat was great; no gristle or fat, and plenty of the meat. The sauce was a little salty, though. I pushed the coleslaw off because I thought that may be making the flavor "off" but that wasn't it. I will probably go again but try something else. I give the food 4 stars..very very good. You can really taste the difference eating fresh organic food vs the processed food you get in most restaurants. The patio is also 4 stars...very relaxing and the chairs are sooo comfortable. This was our second time at Tryst, the first time was for Mother's Day. Unfortunately, this time, the service, although friendly was really poor. Our waiter was also the bar tender, so I tried to give the benefit of the doubt, but we were just..forgotten. It took nearly 20 minutes to get the check, and that was after I went to the register to ask for it. Then he forgot to come to the table to pick up the card, so I went back to the register to settle. I like that everything is fresh and organic for the most part. It's an interesting menu, but a very small menu. I had the huevos rancheros. We sat inside because the patio was completely full. The service was good-though our drinks were never refilled. Bummer. I love that they serve your coffee in a clear mug. Fun. The presentation of the food was also lovely. The only reasons I'm not giving it 4 stars is because of the limited menu and like I said, our drinks were never refreshed-and it took quite some time for us to get our bill. Loved our meal. First time at Tryst and the 5 of us loved the food. Staff was great! Waitstaff wore masks which I really respect and appreciate. Discovered Tryst (Organic) Cafe shortly after it opened about 2+ yrs ago. Have had breakfast, lunch & dinner there. They have organic everything - food, beer, wine, even vodka - which is what drew me at first. Also many gluten free choices. They've had their ups & downs with service, but it's usually good. The happy hour is limited and should be improved in both hours & choices. My wife & I both love their Seered Ahi Tuna Salad, it's fantastic! Tryst Cafe served us the WORST lunch! The guacamole was dark green, but we tried it anyway (bad mistake as it was spoiled with a bad aftertaste). When my girlfriend's portabella sandwich was served the guacamole spread on it was black and the portabella was smaller and hidden under a tomato slice...The bun was twice the size of everything except for the lettuce leaf. I then noticed the guacamole on my grilled cheese was also black! When I told the waitress, she offered to bring us a new guacamole to go; obviously, not solving for the black guacamole on the sandwiches. I said, no thanks, but someone in the back needs to know guacamole is not supposed to be black. She told me she will tell someone in the back but "nicely" as that is how she is paid. I was shocked and told her, I am the person paying for the food, so you should worry about us because you are not going to make any money off of me. We came here for breakfast this past Saturday after my boyfriend stopped in for lunch on Friday afternoon. He said he had an amazing pulled pork sammie and sweet pot tots, and this place had been on our" weekend breakfast out" radar for a while, so we stopped in. We were sat in kind of a precarious location between two parties right in the partition between the inside and patio, but hey, it was a table. My iced coffee was delicious, and our server was very quick with refills for both iced and regular coffee for the bf. We both ordered the Tryst omelet (which seemed popular--I heard the ladies at the table next to us order it.) which is filled with fresh mozz, roasted tomatoes and pesto. He kept the sweet potato tots, I subbed fruit for mine. (I'd just ran for 31 minutes straight, I needed to pretend to be healthy.) The omelets were stuffed and delicious. The mozz could have been just an eensie bit more melted but the roasted tomatoes were stupid good! The lil fruit cup was tasty, with fresh orange segments (juicy!), pineapple, honeydew and melon. And of course I stole a few tots, which were tasty as expected. I really liked this place, but the prices seemed a little bit steep for breakfast. I had the tuna salad and it had a real nice flavor thanks to the dill and the fresh croissant, all accompanied by string fries. Others in my group had the salad which they enjoyed, though in one of the bowls there was too much dressing. They were served attractively in a large slanted bowl. Love this "new-to-me" local spot for breakfast, lunch, & dinner! I have gotten take out and have eaten at the restaurant. Everytime I have been in, there have been the nicest people working. Great customer service & very attentive servers. LOVE their chicken tortilla soup and the hummus trio platter. You can taste the freshness! Also, super yummt mimosas for breakfast :) I love that they have an outside patio to enjoy the nice weather. The only downside is the size of the restaurant, which is out of their control. Since it is packed everytime I go there, I do have to wait, but it's worth it for good food and drinks. Bottomline: Not many places service natural & organic fare in N. Phoenix, so try it out because the Pita Jungle at desertridge SUCKS. read more
